If you can sleep, take a pill. If you're sad, take a pill. If you're in pain, take a pill. But what about people who are overweight or lack fitness? The best solution for these people is to exercise, but many people don't want to exercise or are unable to exercise. Drug companies are always looking for new pills to sell, and many have spent lots of money on developing pills for these people. Too many people in the world of sports are concerned about a pill like this. They fear that some athletes might use IT as a performance enhancing drug. Even though the drug discovered in the nineties was never approved for human to use. Some athletes may have used IT to cheat. Some people think top athletes who pass drug tests might still be cheating, and in some cases, this has been shown to be true. The world famous swimmer and olympic gold medals, Michael phelps, knew this, so we offered to go through extra drug testing before the two thousand and eight olympics. He knew that many people would suspect his amazing strength, so he felt he had a proof that IT came from hard work and training alone. These days, there are too many pills for just about everything. Evernote allows users to create to-do lists, save web pages and change documents into a digital form via a device’s camera. Ever note is free, though an advanced version with more feature costs $7.99 a month or $69.99 a year. College mobile apps. College-specific apps have become fairly common among U. B Our school owned a boat named Jolie Brise. It was one of the most famous tall ships in the world and three times winner of the Fastnet Race. The boat was unusual: especially for a remote grammar school in Wiltshire, about as far away from the sea as it can get in England. Obviously, such a site didn't match its fame. Mr Parish had originally intended to join the Royal Navy but ended up as a teacher at our school. Some pupils guessed that he still felt the call of the ocean-perhaps because his lessons were almost entirely devoted to navigation(航海). They argued that it was deeply unfair to learn about navigation but never actually go to sea. Then Mr. Parish, seeing a bunch of young people prepared to crew the boat, allowed them to sail her in return for working on the boat. And that was the beginning of the school sailing club. By the time I arrived the sailing club had grown. At weekends, we would work on her all day, cleaning and painting her, and collapse into sleeping bags on the floor at night. Then came the big day when a school sailing trip was announced. Its destination was Saint-Malo. But it also meant that we had to refit the ship by removing every piece of ballast(压舱物)and replacing the bilge water(底舱污水)before we were allowed to sail. And I did learn the ropes on that school trip. I learned how to operate a ship in the high waves. I learned the meaning of teamwork and became a better team player. I also learned that the best fish is the one that you have caught and cooked yourself from a boat that you have rebuilt and sailed yourself. 4. What was unusual about the boat Jolie Brise? A. It was in a perfect condition. B. Its lawful owner was Mr. Parish. C. It won glory for the Royal Navy. D. Its location wasn't as famous as it was. 5. Why was the sailing club set up? A. The crew were selected. B. The boat needed workers. C. Mr. Parish tried to explore the sea. D. Students asked to practice navigation. 6. What finally made the school sailing trip possible? A. The club’s permission. B. Mr. Parish’s sailing experience. C. The students’ preparing the ship for it. D. The school’s offering financial support. 7. What does the underlined phrase “learn the ropes” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Learn to cook. B. Master useful skills. C. Ensure sailing safety. D. Use ropes properly. C Like most of us, I try to be mindful of food that goes to waste. The arugula (芝麻菜)was to make a nice green salad, rounding out a roast chicken dinner. But I ended up working late. Then friends called with a dinner invitation. I stuck the chicken in the freezer. But as days passed, the arugula went bad. Even worse, I had unthinkingly bought way too much; I could have made six salads with what I threw out. In a world where nearly 800 million people a year go hungry, “food waste goes against the moral grain,” as Elizabeth Royte writes in this month’s cover story. It’s jaw-dropping how much perfectly good food is thrown away — from “ugly” (but quite eatable) vegetables rejected by grocers to large amounts of uneaten dishes thrown into restaurant garbage cans. Producing food that no one eats wastes the water, fuel, and other resources used to grow it. That makes food waste an environmental problem. In fact, Royte writes, “if food waste were a country, it would be the third largest producer of greenhouse gases in the world.” If that’s hard to understand, let’s keep it as simple as the arugula at the back of my refrigerator. Mike Curtin sees my arugula story all the time — but for him, it's more like 12 bones of donated strawberries nearing their last days. Curtin is CEO of DC Central Kitchen in Washington, D.C., which recovers food and turns it into healthy meals. Last year it recovered more than 807,500 pounds of food by taking donations and collecting blemished (有瑕疵的) produce that otherwise would have rotted in fields. And the strawberries? Volunteers will wash, cut, and freeze or dry them for use in meals down the road. Such methods seem obvious, yet so often we just don’t think. “Everyone can play a part in reducing waste, whether by not purchasing more food than necessary in your weekly shopping or by asking restaurants to not include the side dish you won’t eat,” Curtin says. 8. What does the author want to show by telling the arugula story? A. We pay little attention to food waste. B. We waste food unintentionally at times. C. We waste more vegetables than meat. D. We have good reasons for wasting food. 9. What is a consequence of food waste according to the text? A. Moral decline. B. Environmental harm. C. Energy shortage. D. Worldwide starvation. 10. What does Curtin’s company do? A. It produces kitchen equipment. B. It turns rotten arugula into clean fuel. C. It helps local farmers grow fruits. D. It makes meals out of unwanted food. 11 What does Curtin suggest people do? A. Buy only what is needed. B. Reduce food consumption. C. Go shopping once a week. D. Eat in restaurants less often. D Cities are noisy, dirty, and full of traffic jams. But they don’t have to be that way. In a “smart” city, electronic sensors collect data on everything from traffic patterns and electricity usage to noise and light levels. Computer programs continuously analyze this data to find patterns and report important information. If you lived in a place like this, you’d be able to find out what’s happening at any location, right now. You might want to know how many people are at the local park, or how windy it is at the beach, or whether you’ll run into any construction projects as you bike to school. A smart city could deliver instant answers via an app on your mobile device. Singapore, a city in Southeast Asia, already uses sensor systems. All 11,000 taxis in the city regularly report their speed, location, and direction through their GPS systems. Cameras throughout the city take pictures of traffic conditions. Website and apps share information about what’s happening on the city's roads, right now. In New York City, some trashcans have sensors that send out an alert when they need to be emptied. These sensors also collect weather information. The city of Chicago plans to install dozens of sensors in 2016. The project, called “Array of Things,” will capture data on the current levels of light, noise, rain, heat, and wind around the city. Originally, project organizers planned to check for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals coming from cell phones. But this plan made many citizens uncomfortable. Some worried that the sensors would dig into personal data on their phones or even identify individuals as they walked past. Organizers said they would not identify or track anyone, but they still changed the plan. Sensors will now analyze images from a camera in order to count people. Images will be deleted after the count is complete. What do you think? Life in a smart city sounds convenient. But some of the data the city tracks may be about you. How much information are you willing to share? 12. Which is NOT the main feature in a “smart” city? A. Electronic sensors. B. Computer programs. C. Mobile apps. D. Construction projects. 13. In what field does the sensor systems work in Singapore? A. Environment. B. Weather. C. Transport. D. Photography. 14. Why did the original project organizers change their plan? A. The signals made them uncomfortable. B. Citizens worried about their privacy. C. Sensors couldn’t analyze some images. D Organizers always tracked the citizens. 15. In which section of magazine can we find this text? A. Entertainment. B. Nature. C. Society. D. Technology. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) Whether your friends live a long way away or you’re just not able to hang out in person right now, it can be difficult to come up with fun things to do together. Instead, a brick hit violently into the Jags side door! He stepped on the brakes and backed his Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown. The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, “What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That’s a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?” The young boy was apologetic. “Please, mister... please, I’m sorry but I didn’t know what else to do,” he explained. “I threw the brick because no one else would stop…” With tears rolling down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. “It’s my brother,” he said. “He rolled off the sidewalk and fell out of his wheelchair and I can’t lift him up.” Now sobbing, the boy asked the astonished manager, “Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He’s hurt and he’s too heavy for me.” Moved beyond words, the driver cooled his anger. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The driver watched the boy push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力1. Below is a list of apps for college students recommended by educational technology experts. The needs of individual students differ and experts suggest that students try out several apps to find the right one. Unless costs are noted in the apps’ descriptions below, these learning tools are free to users: Blackboard App. A popular learning management system, Blackboard is used at many colleges across the U. S. It allows students to get course work for online classes or in-person classes. Students can view course content, complete assignments and tests, view graded and more. Duolingo. Advertising itself as “the world’s best way to learn a language”, Duolingo offers lessons in 35- plus languages, helping users with speaking, reading, listening, writing, grammar and vocabulary. Duolingo offers both free and paid versions, the latter with an ad-free experience and of line access to lessons. Evernote. A note-taking and task-management system that offers the ability to sync across devices. Evernote allows users to create to-do lists, save web pages and change documents into a digital form via a device’s camera. Ever note is free, though an advanced version with more feature costs $7.99 a month or $69.99 a year. College mobile apps. College-specific apps have become fairly common among U. S. college students. While these apps may differ by college, users can often find campus maps, news, safety information, scheduled events and more. 1. Why do students need to try out several apps? A. To avoid paying for any app. B. To apply these alps to different tasks. C. To see as many different functions as possible. D. To find one that can best meet their needs. 2. What do the listed apps have in common? A. They cannot be used continuously until paid. B. They can help college students learn better. C. They have different versions for college students. D. They have been quite popular among college students. 3. Which app will you choose if you want to make a to-do list? A. Blackboard app. B. Duolingo. C. Evernote. D. College mobile apps. 1. D 2. The needs of individual students differ and experts suggest that students try out several apps to find the right one.(应用程序等教育技术可以帮助学生提高时间管理、组织能力、学习能力、家庭作业等。 A note-taking and task-management system that offers the ability to sync across devices. Evernote allows users to create to-do lists, save web pages and change documents into a digital form via a device’s camera.(Evernote是一个记笔记和任务管理系统,它提供了跨设备同步的能力,它允许用户通过设备的摄像头创建待办事项列表、保存网页和将文档转换成数字形式。)” C。 B Our school owned a boat named Jolie Brise. By the time I arrived, the sailing club had grown. 6 What finally made the school sailing trip possible? A. The club’s permission. B. Mr. Parish’s sailing experience. C. The students’ preparing the ship for it. D. The school’s offering financial support. 7. What does the underlined phrase “learn the ropes” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Learn to cook. B. Master useful skills. C. Ensure sailing safety. D. Use ropes properly. D 5. D 6. C 7. 根据第一段的“The boat was unusual: especially for a remote grammar school in Wiltshire, about as far away from the sea as it can get in England. Obviously, such a site didn't match its fame.”(这条船不寻常:尤其是对于威尔郡的一所偏远的语法学校来说,它在英国离海最远的地方。 根据第二段的“They argued that it was deeply unfair to learn about navigation but never actually go to sea. Then Mr. Parish, seeing a bunch of young people prepared to crew the boat, allowed them to sail her in return for working on the boat. And that was the beginning of the school sailing club.”(他们争辩说,只学习航海知识却未能真正出海,这是非常不公平的。 根据第三段的“At weekends, we would work on her all day, cleaning and painting her, and collapse into sleeping bags on the floor at night. Then came the big day when a school sailing trip was announced.”(周末时,我们整天都为她忙碌,给她打扫卫生、上油漆,晚上我们就睡在地板上的睡袋里。 根据第四段的“I learned how to operate a ship in the high waves. I learned the meaning of teamwork and became a better team player. I also learned that the best fish is the one that you have caught and cooked yourself from a boat that you have rebuilt and sailed yourself.”(我学会了如何在大浪中驾驶船。 B。 C Like most of us, I try to be mindful of food that goes to waste. 11. What does Curtin suggest people do? A. Buy only what is needed. B. Reduce food consumption. C. Go shopping once a week. D. Eat in restaurants less often. B 9. B 10. D 11. 根据第一段中的“Like most of us, I try to be mindful of food that goes to waste.(像我们大多数人一样,我努力关注那些被浪费的食物)”及“But as days passed, the arugula went bad. Even worse, I had unthinkingly bought way too much; I could have made six salads with what I threw out.(但随着时间的推移,芝麻菜变坏了。 根据第三段“Producing food that no one eats wastes the water, fuel, and other, resources used to grow it. That makes food waste an environmental problem. In fact, Royte writes, “if food waste were a country, it would be the third largest producer of greenhouse gases in the world.”(生产没人吃的食物会浪费用于种植食物的水、燃料和其他资源。 根据倒数第二段中的“Curtin is CEO of DC Central Kitchen in Washington. D.C., which recovers food and turns it into healthy meals. Last year it recovered more than 807,500 pounds of food by taking donations and collecting blemished (有瑕疵的) produce, that otherwise would have rotted in fields. And the strawberries? Volunteers will wash, cut, and freeze or dry them for use in meals down the road.(科廷是华盛顿DC中央厨房的首席执行官,该公司把食物复原,变成健康的食物。 根据最后一段中的““Everyone can play a part in reducing waste, whether by not purchasing more food than necessary in your weekly shopping or by asking restaurants to not include the side dish you won’t eat,” Curtin says.(“每个人都可以在减少浪费方面发挥作用,无论是在每周的购物中不购买不必要的食物,还是要求餐馆不包括你不吃的配菜,”科廷说)”可知,科廷建议人们只买需要的东西来避免浪费食物。故选A项。 D Cities are noisy, dirty, and full of traffic jams. D. Organizers always tracked the citizens. 15. In which section of magazine can we find this text? A. Entertainment. B. Nature. C. Society. D. Technology. D 13. C 14. B 15. 由第一段中的“In a “smart” city, electronic sensors collect data on everything from traffic patterns and electricity usage to noise and light levels. He was watching for kids darting out (窜出) from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: Moved beyond words, the driver cooled his anger. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair. On seeing the bleeding cuts, the man took out his white handkerchief and wiped the wound gently with great care. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay. When the driver was about to leave, the young brother stepped forward. “Thank you and may God bless you,” said the grateful child, tears filling his eyes. Paragraph 2: The driver watched the boy push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home. It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the damaged side door. He kept it there to remind him of this message: “Don’t go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!” God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don’t have time to listen, he has to throw a brick at us. It’s our choice to listen or not. 如:with great care,go through, get one’s attention等高级词汇;when引导的时间状语从句When the driver was about to leave, the young brother stepped forward等高级句式。 听力1 B 2.
