Decide to love
While waiting to pick up a friend at the airport,I had one of those life-changing experiences. It happened only two feet away from me.
Eager to find my friend among the passengers coming through the jet way,I noticed a man walking toward me carrying two light bags.He stopped right next to me to greet his family.
First he waved to his son (maybe about six years old) as he laid down his bags. They gave each other a long, loving hug.As they separated enough to look in each other's face,I heard the father say,“It's so good to see you.I missed you so much!” His son smiled shyly, and replied softly,“Me too,Dad!”
While this was happening,a baby girl(perhaps one or one-and-a-half) was twisting excitedly in her mother's arms, never once taking her little eyes off the wonderful sight of her returning father. The man said,“Hi,baby girl!” as he gently took the child from her mother. The little girl instantly relaxed and simply laid her head on his shoulder, satisfied.
After several moments,he turned to his wife and declared,“I've saved the best for last!” and gave her the longest kiss I ever remember seeing. They stared at each other's eyes, smiling at one another for long.
For an instant they reminded me of newly-married couples. However,I knew by the age of their kids that they couldn't possibly be.Full of admiration,I asked,“Wow! How long have you two been married?” “Twelve years,” he replied, without breaking his look from his lovely wife's face.“Well, then, how long have you been away?” I asked.“Two whole days!” “Two days?” I was surprised, thinking he'd been gone for at least several weeks.I knew my expression betrayed(背叛) me,so I turned away my eyes and said quietly,“I hope my marriage is still that passionate after so long!”
The man suddenly stopped smiling and looked me straight in the eye._______

The man suddenly stopped smiling and looked me straight in the eye. Then he told me something that left me a different person.“Don't hope,friend...decide!” He flashed me his wonderful smile again, shook my hand and said,“God bless!” With that,he and his family turned and walked away together.I was still watching that man and his special family walk just out of sight when my friend came up to me and asked,“What are you looking at?” Without hesitation and with a curious sense of certainty,I replied softly,“My future!”
A
We live in a town with three beaches. There are two parts less than 10 minutes' walk from home where neighbourhood children gather to play. However, what my children want to do after school is pick up a screen—any screen—and stare at it for hours. They are not alone.Today's children spend an average of four and a half hours a day looking at screens, split between watching television and using the Internet.
In the past few years,an increasing number of people and organisations have begun coming up with plans to counter this trend.A couple of years ago film-maker David Bond realised that his children, then aged five and three, were attached to screens to the point where he was able to say “chocolate” into his three-year-old son's ear without getting a response. He realised that something needed to change, and, being a London media type, appointed himself “marketing director from Nature”.He documented his journey as he set about treating nature as a brand to be marketed to young people. The result was Project Wild Thing,a film which charts the birth of the Wild Network,a group of organisations with the common goal of getting children out into nature.
“Just five more minutes outdoors can make a difference,” David Bond says.“There is a lot of really interesting evidence which seems to be suggesting that if children are inspired up to the age of seven, then being outdoors will be a habit for life.” His own children have got into the habit of playing outside now: “We just send them out into the garden and tell them not to come back in for a while.”
Summer is upon us.There is an amazing world out there, and it needs our children as much as they need it.Let us get them out and let them play.

根据第一段中的“However, what my children want to do after school is pick up a screen—any screen—and stare at it for hours.(然而,我的孩子们放学后想做的是拿起一个屏幕——任何屏幕——盯着它看几个小时)”可知,作者的孩子一放学后就想拿起屏幕,他们在屏幕前待的时间太长了,这是一个问题。故选D项。]

The Way We Do Things Round Here
Some years ago,I was hired by an American bank.I received a letter from head of the Personnel Department that started,“Dear John,I am quite pleased that you have decided to join us.” That “quite” saddened me.I thought he was saying “we're kind of pleased you decided to join us although I wish we had hired someone else.” Then I discovered that in American English “quite” sometimes means “very”,while in British English it means “fairly”.
So the first lesson about working in other countries is to learn the language and by that I don't just mean the words people speak. It is body language, dress, manners, ideas and so on.The way people do things highlights many of the differences we see between cultures(文化).
Some of these differences may be only on the surface-dress,food and hours of work-while others may be deeper and take longer to deal with.Mostly,it is just a question of getting used to the differences and accepting them, like the climate(气候),while getting on with business.
Some of the differences may be an improvement.People are more polite;the service is better;you ask for something to be done and it happens without having to ask again.
However, other differences can be troubling, like punctuality(准时).If you invite people to a party at 7 o'clock, your guests will consider it polite to turn up exactly on time in Germany, five minutes early in the American Midwest,an hour early in Japan,15 minutes afterwards in the UK,up to an hour afterwards in Italy and sometime in the evening in Greece.I prefer not to use the word “late” because there is nothing wrong with the times people arrive. It is simply the accepted thing to do in their own country.
5.The author was unhappy as mentioned in paragraph 1 because he thought ______.
A.the American bank didn't think much of him
B.the American bank might hire another person
C.it's difficult to get used to American culture
D.it's easy to misunderstand Americans
根据第一段中“That ‘quite’ saddened me.I thought he was saying ‘we're kind of pleased you decided to join us although I wish we had hired someone else.’ Then I discovered that in American English ‘quite’ sometimes means ‘very’,while in British English it means ‘fairly’.(我相当的(quite)高兴你决定加入我们(银行)。他用的这个‘相当的’字眼让我感到难过。我觉得他好像在说:‘我们有些高兴你决定加入我们,虽然我的希望是我们雇用了另外一个人。’后来我发现,在美式英文里‘相当’的意思是‘非常’,而在英式英文中,‘相当’只是说‘还可以’。)”可知,作者对于“quite”一词的理解偏差导致了作者心情不愉快。因为作者认为这家美国银行并不器重他。故选 A。]
6.The word “highlights” in paragraph 2 probably means ______.
A.encourages B.helps to narrow
C.increases D.draws attention to
根据第二段中“So the first lesson about working in other countries is to learn the language and by that I don't just mean the words people speak. It is body language, dress, manners, ideas and so on.(所以我对在别的国家工作所学到的第一课就是语言。我的意思不只是别人所说的话。而是要注意人的肢体语言、衣着、态度以及观念等等)”可知,作者认为人们做事的方式强调了我们在不同文化之间看到的许多差异。highlight “强调”。故选 D。]
7.According to the author, what should we do with most cultural differences?
A.Ask the native people for help.
B.Understand and accept them.
C.Do things in our own way.
D.Do in-depth research.
根据第三段信息句 “Mostly,it is just a question of getting used to the differences and accepting them, like the climate, while getting on with business.”
8.When invited to a party, the people who are usually punctual are ______.
A.Italians B.Germans
C.Greeks D.the British
由第五段信息句 “If you invite people to a party at 7 o'clock, your guests will consider it polite to turn up exactly on time in Germany(在德国,如果你邀请别人7点参加聚会,你的客人会认为准时到场是礼貌的)”可知,德国人是准时的人。故选 B。]
1.电影简要介绍(年代、主演等);
注意:1.词数80左右;

My Favorite Film
My favorite film is Forrest Gump, one of the most inspirational films that leave a deep impression on me.This is an American film made in 1994.Tom Hanks stars in the film.Forrest Gump, the main character, was unfortunately born with an IQ of 75,but he has a wonderful life. Not only is he a football star, but he is also a war-hero and later a millionaire. He wins respect, wealth and money.
The lesson I learn from it is that if we do what we should do well, life will give us a good gift.
