The animals there don’t use technology to keep cool. Instead, they have special abilities that help them live. The kangaroo rat is a special animal there. During the day, the Valley gets hotter than 100°F. The kangaroo rat rests all day in a hole in the ground. It covers the hole with grass to keep out the heat, and comes out at night when it is cooler. This little rat is also very good at saving water. It gets all the water it needs from the food it eats. Some kangaroo rats never take a drink of water in their whole lives! Animals get too hot if they lie on the hot sand too long. One snake, called the sidewinder, can solve this problem. When it travels, the sidewinder bends its body into a “W” shape. Then it uses the bottom parts of the “W” like legs and walks sideways. That way it touches only a little of the sand at a time, so the hot sand doesn’t burn the snake. A lot of water in the desert is too salty for most animals to drink. However, one kind of fish. the desert pupfish, can live in these salty pools because it can drink the salt water. 61.We can learn about the Death Valley that the animals there have special abilities. 62.The kangaroo rat spends a hot day by resting in a hole in the ground. 63.The kangaroo rat gets and drinks a lot of water any time in their lives. 64.The sidewinder bends its body into a “W” shape to avoid getting burned. 65.We can know about the pupfish that it is skilled at finding water sources. 根据“Instead, they have special abilities that help them live.” 根据“During the day, the Valley gets hotter than 100°F. The kangaroo rat rests all day in a hole in the ground.” 根据“Some kangaroo rats never take a drink of water in their whole lives!” 根据“When it travels, the sidewinder bends its body into a ‘W’ shape. That way it touches only a little of the sand at a time. so the hot sand doesn’t burn the snake.” 根据“one kind of fish. the desert pupfish, can live in these salty pools because it can drink the salt water.” (共10小题;每小题2分,计20分) A What are your parents like? Do they have any strict family rules for you? Do they make you feel stressed? Recently, a mother’s unique idea about her kids’ playtime has caught people’s attention online. Jessi Meeks says every day, her three kids get an hour where they get to do “whatever” they want. She calls it “whatever-makes-you-happy hour”. Meeks’ idea arose naturally from one of her kids’ suggestions. “One afternoon, the kids were outside painting and my husband and I were trying to talk and carry on a conversation. My oldest son Cannon looked at me and asked, “Can I paint my hands? And I was like, ‘Whatever makes you happy. You all just do it and be quiet so Mommy and Daddy can talk to each other,’ ” Meeks recalls. “And from then on, around that same time of the day, they would ask if they could do something and we’d be like, ‘Sure, whatever makes you happy.’” But Meeks also sets necessary boundaries (界限). “If they start hurting themselves or hurting each other, we step in,” she adds,“And we don’t let them watch TV.” Meeks believes the hour of free playtime has been beneficial for her kids. If they make a big mess, she thinks it’s a good chance to teach little ones the practice of tidying up. At the same time, it’s also a great way to allow time for them to explore and play the way they want. “Even though the kids make a mess at times, it has worked out well for everyone in my family,” Meeks says. 九、阅读下面两篇短文,根据短文内容选择最佳选项。(共10小题;每小题2分,计20分) A What are your parents like?
