七、阅读理解
“Are you an ‘i-person’ or an ‘e-person’?” This question has been talked about by many young people online recently. It’s part of a popular personality (性格) test called MBTI.
The MBTI test divides people into sixteen personality types, such as INFJ, INTP, ESTP and ESFJ. “I” or “E” is the first letter. People are either “I”, usually quiet, or “E”, usually outgoing. But sometimes an “i-person” seems to be outgoing. For example, an “i-person” maybe talks much with a group of quieter friends than him or her.
It seems interesting for many young people to use the MBTI result to describe someone’s personality. I once took the result seriously. But one day, I was surprised to see my sister Lucy making a study plan for the summer holiday. She is a “p-person” according to the test result. “P-persons” usually don’t like to make plans. “I thought you were a ‘p-person’,” I said. “Why do I need to follow what my personality test tells me? It’s just for fun,” she answered. Yes, she was right. The test was just for fun.
Maybe, the MBTI personality test tells you something about someone. And it can also be a way to start up a talk when you meet new friends. However, the four letters don’t tell you everything about a person. Don’t let the MBTI result tell you who you are.
75.How many kinds of personalities are there in the MBTI test?

When the air is polluted we wear masks to protect our lungs (肺). What about bees and butterflies? They can’t wear masks.
New Scientist magazine recently reported findings from James Ryalls and his team at the University of Reading, UK. Their study found that air pollution is harmful to pollinators (传花粉者) like bees and butterflies. They can’t smell flowers because of the pollution.
Pollinators are important. They spread pollen (花粉) among plants with flowers. This helps the flower produce seed and fruit. Without pollinators, farms cannot make food.
To do their study, Ryalls’ team built eight areas. They piped (吹送) some harmful gases into six of these areas. The other two areas had normal air.
“The results were much more severe than we thought,” said Ryalls. The levels of pollution in their tests were similar to “normal road traffic”. In such conditions (环境条件), 70 percent few pollinators fly into the area. Once they were there, they didn’t hang around. Visits to flowers decreased by up to 90 percent.
Scientists explained that harmful gases can break down the scents (气味) of flowers. This makes it hard for pollinators to find their food. Shanno n Olsson, a scientist in the India, pointed out that the new “legal” and “safe” pollution levels keep pollinators away.
“Air pollution is another stress on pollinators,” said Ryalls. “That causes their number to decline (减少).”

Today, with the development of society, people all over the world have the same hobbies. That is to say, we are not very different in some ways. However, cultures are still quite different. In the East and in the West, social rules are not the same.
In the East, it takes a long time to become someone’s friend. However, when people become friends, they will know each other very well and share almost everything in their lives. When people from the West meet you, they will call you a friend right away. That doesn’t mean they are close to you. When people from the East meet you, they want to know about your age, your salary (薪水) and whether you have been married or not. For people from the West, these are impolite questions. They think such kinds of questions violate their privacy (隐私).
Family is important to everyone. In the East, kids live with their parents for a long time. They still listen to their parents after they grow up. However, in the West, independence is very important. After the kids grow up, they leave home and don't need to listen to their parents' advice any more.
In the East and in the West, people think differently, too. People in the West think about small details. They also think less and act more. But in the East, people pay attention to relationships between things, and they often keep their opinions quiet.
