二、读后续写
1.Annabelle’s best friend, Lucy, had a deep love for trees. She spent her free time climbing trees, finding joy in their branches and leaves. She also loved to draw pictures of trees, capturing their grace and beauty on paper. Whenever her favorite tree-printed shirt was clean, she wore it with pride. Today was Arbor Day, a day dedicated to celebrating and planting trees. Annabelle wanted to make it special for Lucy.
“Happy Arbor Day,” Annabelle called out, her voice filled with enthusiasm as she pedaled her bike up to where Lucy and Ethan were standing. Ethan, however, looked puzzled. “What’s Arbor Day?” he asked in confusion. Lucy’s eyes lit up as she explained, “It’s a holiday to celebrate trees, and it’s my favorite holiday!” Ethan’s frown (皱眉) deepened, and he shook his head, insisting, “Arbor Day is not a real holiday.” Lucy’s face flushed (脸红) with embarrassment. Before she could respond, Annabelle stepped in firmly. “It is a real holiday,” Annabelle said confidently, “And Lucy and I are here to celebrate it in our own special way.”
Lucy, though passionate about trees, had never given thought to planning an Arbor Day celebration. Seeing her friend’s hesitation, Annabelle’s determination only grew stronger. “We’ll show Ethan,” Annabelle whispered to Lucy, leading her into the garage. “First, we’ll hang decorations.” She scanned the holiday storage boxes, finding decorations for Halloween with its ghosts and goblins, Christmas with its twinkling lights and stars, and Valentine’s Day with its hearts and love notes. But there was no sign of Arbor Day decorations, no leaves or tree-themed stuff.
“Mom,” Annabelle called out with hope, “where are our Arbor Day decorations?” Her mother replied with a gentle smile, explaining that they had never had any specific decorations for Arbor Day. But Annabelle wasn’t easily discouraged.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

“What are you doing?” asked Ethan, as he stepped into the garage and saw the decorations.

2.On the walk home from school, my friend, Cherry, happily said, “Tomorrow is Mother’s Day. I’ve been saving up for the past month and plan to buy my mother the perfume (香水)she’s been wanting for so long.” Her excitement made me realize that I hadn’t prepared anything special yet. But I only had a little money left. I began to regret spending so much on snacks every day.
I continued walking along the road, carefully thinking about what gift I should choose. I planned to buy something like flowers or chocolate, but now it seemed like those were way too simple. Therefore, I pushed open the door to a mall and tried to find the perfect gift. The bright lights shined the collection of various goods. I picked up a lipstick (口红)but immediately put it back after seeing its price. I could never afford that! Then I walked into another shop and saw a lovely cup. I picked it up and turned it over to see the price listed, hoping it was not too expensive. But once again, I couldn’t afford it even with all the money that I had. Feeling sad, I continued to wander around the shops. Time flew by quickly, and before I knew it, the sky began to darken, so I had to go home.
Since there was no time or money for me to pick out a gift, I decided to make a simple card. I held up the card, examining its hardcover, handwritten letter and the tiny pictures I’d drawn of my mom and me. It’s probably never going to compare to the expensive gifts that my friends bought for their mothers, I thought sadly.
注意:1. 续写词数应为120左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Soon, morning came, and it was time to give my mother my handmade card.

3.Mark was seated at the window, watching the other flats. He thought of his father, who had been in the hospital looking after Mark’s sick grandfather. “I’ll do my best to help my mother when you’re away,” Mark promised.
Next to him was his younger brother, Paul. “Mark, when will we have a Christmas tree?” Paul asked. “I’m looking forward to decorating it with Mom’s straw birds.” “This year we won’t have a tree, Paul.” “Why not?” “Too many bills with Grandpa’s sickness. Mom said we couldn’t buy one.”
There was a knock at the door of their flat, and they rushed over to find out who it was. It was Jack from downstairs. He was admitted into the flat, and he glanced about. “You don’t have any trees? I helped to place the artificial tree last week. It’s up to the ceiling. There are only two more days until Christmas! I don’t think you’ll get a tree.” Paul was unconvinced by Jack’s words. “Definitely not! We’re going to buy a genuine(真正的) Christmas tree, a genuine one!” Jack shrugged his shoulders and walked away.
Mark made his way back to his bedroom, shaking his piggy bank. That was only $7 in it. With school out, he thought, he would be able to make enough money in the next couple of days to get a tree and give Mom a surprise.
On the second day, Mark was busy transporting goods to assist the customers. When he was gone, he make another $6 in his pocket. It was his lucky day, and he had expected to spend $13 purchasing(购买) a little tree.
He whistled all the way to the tree lot(场地). But even the smallest one cost $15 or more. There would be a lot of shopping tomorrow, and he would make the extra dollars. He said to the seller in the tree lot, “Would you please help me keep this tree?” “ I cannot,” the seller said, “but come back tomorrow. Maybe it’s still here.” “I’ll return.” Mark waved his hand and ran away.

They went to a shop nearby and purchased some ornaments(装饰品) with the spare money.

4.My brother Joe and I no longer live in the same state, but I make sure to give Joe a call every Christmas. In fact, I will never forget a Christmas when I was seven and Joe was five. I’ve kept a secret about that Christmas for 20 years. Now hearing Joe’s voice makes me feel guilty (内疚的) about it all over again. I think he probably doesn’t even remember it.
When we were kids, Joe almost drove me “crazy”! If Mom brought home my favorite yogurt, Joe would make sure to eat it before I got a chance. When our parents gave us each our own basketball, Joe insisted on playing with mine instead of his own.
That Christmas when I was seven, I was determined to teach him a lesson. At that time I was old enough that I no longer believed in Santa, but I knew Joe did. I couldn’t stand him thinking Santa had put him on the “nice” list when I knew he’d been naughty (淘气的) all year.
One day before Christmas, I put on my winter jacket and headed over to our neighbor’s backyard. It was filled with rocks. To me they really looked like coal (煤炭). I was sure that they’d look like coal to Joe too. I filled a lot of the rocks into the pockets of my winter jacket, brought them up to my room and hid them under my bed. Then I waited.
That morning, I got up early, went downstairs secretly and put the rocks into the red stocking with Joe’s name on it. I watched Joe take down his heavy stocking, lay it on the living room floor.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右。
2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Looking at the gift inside, Joe’s smile disappeared suddenly.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I said on the phone, “Hey, Joe, do you remember that Christmas morning when you were five …your stocking…”

【答案】Good evening, everyone,
I’m Li Hua. Knowing you’re keen on traditional Chinese culture, I’d like to introduce a traditional Chinese festival to you — the Dragon Boat Festival.
The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, so it’s also called the Double Fifth Festival. On that day, we usually eat Zongzi — sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves. As the festival name shows, people hold dragon boat races to celebrate it, especially in the southern places in memory of QuYuan, a great poet of ancient China. Therefore, it’s regarded as a day of mourning and cherishing the memory.
Thanks for your listening.

Learning that you show enormous interest in Chinese characters, I’m writing to give you a brief introduction to the Chinese writing system, which might help you gain a glimpse into the rich Chinese culture.
The Chinese writing system dates back over 5000 years and has evolved alongside the development of our culture, transforming from an originally picture-based language carved on bones to the current state you see now, evolving from oracle Bone script to today’s Regular script. As a bridge for cultural exchanges, Chinese characters have promoted mutual understanding between countries as China performs an increasingly influential role in global affairs. This is bound to boost cross-cultural integration and open up new horizons.
Wish you a fruitful exploration of Chinese culture.

【答案】 “Let’s make our own,” Annabelle suggested, her eyes shining with excitement. “We can create our own Arbor Day decorations using things we have around the house. We’ll craft paper leaves and tree cutouts, and maybe even make some garlands with twine and pine cones.” Lucy’s face lit up as the idea began to take shape. Together, they rummaged through craft supplies, finding colored paper, scissors, and glue. They worked diligently, transforming plain materials into vibrant tree-themed decorations. By the time they finished, the garage had been transformed into a beautiful forest, ready to celebrate the day in true spirit. The two girls called Ethan to come over.
“What are you doing?” asked Ethan, as he stepped into the garage and saw the decorations. Lucy and Annabelle beamed at him, their creation now complete. “It’s for Arbor Day,” Annabelle replied, her voice filled with pride. “We wanted to show you that even if it’s not a widely known holiday, it’s still special to us. And we hope it can be special to you too.” Ethan’s frown softened, and a hint of a smile played on his lips. “Alright,” he said, “I’ll play along. Lead the way.” As they walked out of the garage, hand in hand, Lucy felt a surge of happiness. Today, she had not only celebrated Arbor Day but also strengthened her bond with her friends, proving that sometimes, the best celebrations are the ones you create yourself.

Soon, morning came, and it was time to give my mother my handmade card. I prepared myself to see the disappointment on my mother’s face as I went into the kitchen. My mother was already preparing Sunday breakfast for the family. “Hey, Mom,” I said and walked over to her. She put down the plate and turned around. I took out the card shyly and said, “Happy Mother’s Day!”
“I love this card!” My mother said excitedly. I was surprised to see how much she liked the simple card. “But it’s not expensive or special,” I said. “This is the most special gift ever. Thank you so much for your effort,” my mother said gently. These words encouraged me. I told my mother my worries. She told me that the price doesn’t matter at all and that what truly counts is the thoughtfulness and love behind the gift. I finally broke into a smile, realizing the true value of my card.

【答案】 On the following day, when Mark and Paul came to the tree lot, they saw a much smaller tree. It only cost $13 and the small one that cost $15 was still in the lot. Taking out $19 from his pocket, Mark was hesitant to decide which one they should buy. “Paul, which one do you want?” Mark turned to his brother for his idea. “The bigger one,” Paul answered eagerly, “Jack said his tree was up to the ceiling, so I hope ours won’t be too small.” “But Paul, Jack’s tree is only an artificial one, while ours is a genuine Christmas tree!” Mark reminded Paul, “If we buy the smaller one, we will have $6 to get more beautiful ornaments for the tree, which will give Mom a big surprise.” Thinking it over, Paul nodded and agreed.
They went to a shop nearby and purchased some ornaments with the spare money. The moment they got home, they couldn’t wait to decorate the Christmas tree. They hung the beautiful and lovely pendants on the tree and put the flashing lights around it. While turning on the power, the colorful “stars” blinked their little eyes playfully, making the tree more beautiful. “Amazing! My boys! Thank you so much!” Mom cheered excitedly when she caught sight of the tree. Knowing that Mark made money by assisting customers to transport goods, Mom was moved to tears and hugged her sons tightly. Mark helped his mother prepare a wonderful Christmas for the family and fulfilled his promise to his father.

I said on the phone, “Hey, Joe, do you remember that Christmas morning when you were five …your stocking…”
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Looking at the gift inside, Joe’s smile disappeared suddenly. His face turned red. He didn’t cry or complain. He stayed completely silent. He wouldn’t even look at anyone else in the room. As I watched, my own expectation turned to something like regret. Joe put his whole stocking aside, hiding it so our parents wouldn’t see how “Santa” had treated him. I’d never told anyone what I’d done. But it still troubled me, even all these years later. I must tell him the truth when I called him this Christmas.
I said on the phone, “Hey, Joe, do you remember that Christmas morning when you were five … your stocking…” Joe said, “Coal! Of course I remember! Wow, you really frightened me that time.” To my relief, my brother burst out laughing. “I was embarrassed!” he added. “I waited until everyone had left the room. Then I took the rocks outside. I didn’t want Mom and Dad to know I was naughty!” “I guess if either of us should get coal in a Christmas stocking that year it must be me,” I said. It felt so good to say it, even if Joe never mentioned it. It turned out Joe’s forgiveness — even all these years later — was the best stocking present I could have wished for.
