On the day of leaving, my father thought that I might be caught in the traffic jam if I took a bus to the airport, so he drove me there. But our car broke down on the way. As the time went by, I began to worry about missing the flight. I decided to stop a car to take me to the airport. Many cars went past me with high speed before a white Bora stopped by my side. Thanks to the driver, I arrived at the airport just in time at 1:50 p.m. to catch my plane which would leave ten minutes later. It was my first flight and I was a bit nervous. When the plane was taking off, my ears felt funny. I was really sick. Luckily it was all over after a while. On my window seat, I could enjoy the bird’s-eye view of beautiful cities, land, grass, forests and blue sea. Sometimes our plane flew right over the white clouds. Unluckily I didn’t see any hills. You’ve got everything you need here. Hills, stunning beaches, nice coastal paths. As someone who loves the countryside, I’ve never wanted to leave. I was lucky to find work I could do in this area. A lot of people do have to move away in order to find work. I started Adventure Beyond here about 30 years ago and we work all over the UK. We go up to Scotland, we work along the Thames. We’ve also taken groups to Canada, the Himalayas, places like that. But honestly, West Wales has got everything. We can do everything we need right here. Cardigan Bay is pretty huge, but I find having grown up here there’s a definite sense of belonging. There’s an awareness that we’re lucky to have these incredible sandy beaches, pebbly beaches, beautiful rivers, and hills. It’s peaceful, and it’s not overdeveloped. Of course, there are periods when it gets busy, but then the second schools go back and you pretty much get the beaches to yourself. There is a sense of community (群体) too, with a lot of good community-based clubs, such as the Poppit Sands Surf Lifesaving Club. I set up Adventure Beyond to make my own work in the area. I love the outdoors, and I wanted to be in Cardigan Bay, so it was perfect. I’ve tried to always keep that personal touch. The clients (客户) will pretty much always meet myself and all the staff. We took a lot of people on through the Kickstart scheme (启动计划) and they’ve been employed with us for a few years. A lot of our clients have been with us since we started, too. There’s a sense of family, which is quite special. I won’t mention a specific favorite place, but in general the beaches are just amazing. It’s just a sort of wild west, really. 24. What can we know from Paragraph 2? A. The author is 30 years old. B. The author has to work in another city. C. The author’s job requires a lot of travelling. D. The author can do everything in West Wales. 25. What is Cardigan Bay like in the author’s eyes? A. It’s undeveloped but beautiful. B. Its beauty hasn’t been noticed. C. It has the most peaceful beaches in the world. D. It gives a sense of belonging and community. 26. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to? A. Keeping that personal touch. B. Getting the beaches back to the locals. C. Enjoying outdoor activities with clients. D. Starting Adventure Beyond in Cardigan Bay. 27. What is the text mainly about? A. The author’s simple life in Cardigan Bay. B. The author’s deep love for Cardigan Bay. C. The author’s exploration of Cardigan Bay. D. The author’s hope for the future Cardigan Bay. C 25. D 26. D 27. 根据第二段“I was lucky to find work I could do in this area. A lot of people do have to move away in order to find work. I started Adventure Beyond here about 30 years ago and we work all over the UK. We go up to Scotland, we work along the Thames. We’ve also taken groups to Canada, the Himalayas, places like that.(我很幸运能在这个领域找到工作。很多人为了找工作不得不搬家。大约30年前,我在这里创办了“超越冒险”,我们的业务遍及英国各地。我们去了苏格兰,沿着泰晤士河工作。我们还带着旅行团去了加拿大,喜马拉雅山,诸如此类的地方)”可知,作者他们去了许多地方,推知作者的工作需要经常出差。故选C项。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Cardigan Bay is pretty huge, but I find having grown up here there’s a definite sense of belonging. (卡迪根湾非常大,但我发现在这里长大有一种明确的归属感)”可知,作者眼中的卡迪根湾给人一种归属感。故选D项。 【26题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词上文“I love the outdoors, and I wanted to be in Cardigan Bay(我喜欢户外活动,我想住在卡迪根湾)”可知,作者喜欢户外活动,同时也想住在卡迪根湾,因此在卡迪根湾创立Adventure Beyond对作者来说很完美。 根据最后一段“I won’t mention a specific favorite place, but in general the beaches are just amazing. It’s just a sort of wild west, really.(我不会提到一个特别喜欢的地方,但总的来说,海滩真是太棒了。这就像一个狂野的西部,真的)”结合文章主要讲述了作者对于卡迪根海湾的喜爱之情,卡迪根海湾给了作者归属感,并且可以让作者从事自己喜欢的户外活动。由此可知,文章主要讲述了作者对卡迪根海湾的深爱。故选B项。 C The rise of body neutrality You define (定义) beauty yourself. You are more than a number in measurement. Love yourself the way you are. Body positive messages like theses seem to be everywhere from social media to TV advertisements. Body positivity’s aim to boost acceptance and appreciation of a variety of body types and sizes may explain why it has such a broad appeal. While some find the body positivity movement to be helpful, others have begun calling the movement toxic and suggesting it may be time to move on from this way of thinking. More recently, people have voiced concerns. Some feel that the focus on loving your looks actually strengthens society’s stress on appearance over other values. Much body positivity content in advertisements may bring a stereotype (刻板印象) to viewers because it does little to challenge the hidden assumption that people are valued mainly for their appearance. Therefore, the movement still encourages people to be graceful and engage in beauty practices from head to toe. And if you fail to be body positive, it’s you that are at fault. Many are now moving away from the body positivity movement and the pressures that come from it entirely, and instead are getting behind the body neutrality (中立) movement. Instead of focusing on physical appearance, body neutrality is a profound idea that we can exist without having to think too much about our bodies. We are all more than just our bodies. We are complicated beings with a range of emotions and feelings about our bodies. And because body neutrality de-emphasizes (不强调) the focus on appearance, it motivates us to better acknowledge all the things our bodies are able to do. Being grateful for being able to take up your hobbies and appreciating your body for what it’s capable of doing are both examples of body neutrality. Body neutrality can be beneficial to us. It is associated with the positive body image and mental well-being. The good news is that there are many ways you can develop body neutrality, including writing-based treatment, yoga and spending time in nature. 28. What does the underlined word “toxic” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Inspiring. B. Dangerous. C. Influential. D. Useless. 29. Why is body positivity criticised? A. It upsets overweight people. B. It overstates the role of advertising. C. It attracts too much attention to appearance. D. It challenges the traditional standards of beauty. 30. Which statement would supporters of body neutrality probably agree with? A. Keep fit and you will be confident. B. Accept the imperfection of your body. C. Appreciate your abilities instead of your body. D. Treasure your appearance rather than other values. 31. What is the structure of the text? A. ①②/③④/⑤/⑥ B. ①/②③/④⑤⑥ C. ①/②/③/④⑤/⑥ D. ①②/③/④⑤/⑥ 【答案】28. B 29. C 30. C 31. 根据第二段划线部分前的让步状语从句“While some find the body positivity movement to be helpful”(尽管有些人发现身体积极运动是有帮助的)和空后的“suggesting it may be time to move on from this way of thinking”(并建议是时候改变这种思维方式了)可知,身体积极运动有些人认为是有益的,但是有些人认为是有危害的,应该改变,因此可知,B项dangerous意为“危害”,和toxic意思相近,符合句意。 根据第三段“Therefore, the movement still encourages people to be graceful and engage in beauty practices from head to toe. And if you fail to be body positive, it’s you that are at fault.”(因此,该运动仍然鼓励人们保持优雅,从头到脚进行美容练习。 根据第五段“And because body neutrality de-emphasizes (不强调) the focus on appearance, it motivates us to better acknowledge all the things our bodies are able to do. Being grateful for being able to take up your hobbies and appreciating your body for what it’s capable of doing are both examples of body neutrality.”(因为身体中性不强调对外表的关注,它促使我们更好地承认我们身体能做的所有事情。 根据第一段“Body positive messages like theses seem to be everywhere from social media to TV advertisements.”(从社交媒体到电视广告,这样的身体积极信息似乎无处不在。)及第二段“Body positivity’s aim to boost acceptance and appreciation of a variety of body types and sizes may explain why it has such a broad appeal.”(“身体积极”的目的是提高人们对各种体型和身材的接受和欣赏,这也许可以解释为什么它具有如此广泛的吸引力。) 可知,第三段指出了身体积极运动遭到人们的质疑,为接下来引出身体中立运动的观点作铺垫,根据第四段“Many are now moving away from the body positivity movement and the pressures that come from it entirely, and instead are getting behind the body neutrality (中立) movement.”(现在很多人都在远离积极身体运动和由此带来的压力,转而支持身体中立运动。)及第五段“And because body neutrality de-emphasizes (不强调) the focus on appearance, it motivates us to better acknowledge all the things our bodies are able to do.”(因为身体中性不强调对外表的关注,它促使我们更好地承认我们身体能做的所有事情。) D 13-year-old Ava Dorsey is the founder of Ava’s Pet Palace, a business that sells organic dog and cat treats.“I actually had the idea when I was six with a picture I drew of a palace,”she says.It was a detailed design for dogs and cats and she had serious plans to build it one day. Unlike most dog treats that you find in stores, dog treats sold by Ava’s Pet Palace are 100% organic, and are non-GMO(非转基因). Ava has set a goal for herself with these dog treats, and she wants every treat to be healthy, tasty, and top-quality. Seriously, some of her treats sound delicious enough for people to eat! “All of my bags now have the USDA organic stamp, and we're very excited to have gotten it because it's something I've wanted for a long time,”she says.“A lot of stores like to see organic products because customers like it, so that was really exciting.” Ava says the biggest challenge of being a kid in business is when people don't take her seriously, but undoubtedly Ava has proved that her doubters are wrong! When asked how she defines(定义) success, Ava says,“When you hit a bump in the road, you shouldn't give up and you keep trying.”She learned that from her mom, who sounds like a smart lady! Some more things Ava has learned from her years in business: Hard work eventually pays off and there is nothing wrong with asking for help. As far as the future of the pet treats industry goes, Ava is optimistic——but she’d also like to be an inspiration for change.“There’s not much diversity(多样性) right now, so that’s something I would love to see in the future,”says Ava.“I would also love to see more kids in this industry. There aren't many other teenagers around, and I hope that I can be an inspiration to others who hope to lead the pet industry.” 32. What can we learn about Ava’s Pet Palace from the first two paragraphs? A. It is a palace for pets. B. It is very popular among kids. C. It sells organic pet food. D. It designs stamps for customers. 33. What does“hit a bump in the road”in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Drive on a stone road. B. Escape a setback in business. C. Face a challenging situation. D. Encounter an unexpected opportunity. 34. What can be inferred about Ava’s future goals? A. She plans to enlarge her business in other industries. B. She wants to employ more teenagers in her company. A candy bar at Halloween? Ice cream on a hot day? For Ibrahim, a 12-year-old boy from the West African country of Ghana, chocolate is not about sweet treats; it is about bitter work. ____36____ But if they did, we would learn that Ibrahim spends his days growing and harvesting cocoa beans, from which chocolate is made. We would also learn that he is just one of more than two million children who perform this difficult labour instead of attending school. To change the harmful practices like this, some farms use an approach called Fairtrade. ____37____ It aims to create a different relationship between buyers (chocolate companies) and sellers (cocoa farmers) by encouraging farmers to join together to form a shared business called a cooperative. Because farmers work together instead of competing with each other, they can demand a higher price from the buyers. ____38____ Consumers like you can play a role as well. You can buy Fairtrade chocolate if possible, pressure candy companies to change their labour practices, or ask local stores to sell Fairtrade products. ____39____ It is a programme recognizing schools that provide Fairtrade products in cafeterias or include related lessons in curriculum (课程). Chocolate has a hidden story that affects children like Ibrahim—children who want a happy future just like you do. ____40____ By enjoying Fairtrade products or simply spreading the word, you can make chocolate as sweet for all children as it is for you. A. You have the power to change the story. B. The labels on chocolate do not tell his story. C. Fairtrade is a way of doing business that prohibits child labour. D. You can also take action through the Fairtrade Schools network. E. On many farms, children like Ibrahim perform difficult farming tasks. F. Cocoa trees grow in the tropical climates of Africa, Latin America and South-East Asia. G. With more income farmers can pay adult workers and can send their children to school. B 37. C 38. G 39. D 40. 指出制作巧克力是12岁男孩Ibrahim的艰辛工作,下文“But if they did, we would learn that Ibrahim spends his days growing and harvesting cocoa beans, from which chocolate is made. 符合,下文的they代指The labels on chocolate,故选B。 【37题详解】 上文“To change the harmful practices like this, some farms use an approach called Fairtrade. You can buy Fairtrade chocolate if possible, pressure candy companies to change their labour practices, or ask local stores to sell Fairtrade products.(像你这样的消费者也可以发挥作用。 【40题详解】 上文“Chocolate has a hidden story that affects children like Ibrahim-children who want a happy future just like you do. 可知,从事艰巨劳动而不能上学的儿童和你一样也想要幸福的未来,下文“By enjoying Fairtrade products or simply spreading the word, you can make chocolate as sweet for all children as it is for you.(通过买公平贸易产品或只是传播这个信息,你可以让巧克力对所有孩子来说都像对你一样甜。)” My phone was an extension of myself. At least I was labeled that way because I had no interest in school or studies. I used bad language, hung around with other “bad” boys, skipped school and ran through the fields. No one thought I would do anything worthwhile with my life. And I’d heard many people in our village talking. “Why bother going to school? These kids end up back on the farms anyway. He’ll never amount to anything.” My parents and teachers were disappointed with my average marks. My mother envisioned a different future and knew the value of education to create a better life. By the time I entered the 12th grade, I had taken a good look at myself and realized the life I was creating. The bad boy image troubled me. I didn’t believe I was a bad boy. I didn’t want to be a bad boy. These realizations forced me to acknowledge that my mother was right — education was my only way out. I worked hard to finish my high school, and then I decided to apply for higher education in university. But this village bad boy faced too many challenges. Firstly, my family had very limited money. In addition to that, my grades were not good. There was very little chance I’d gain admission to a university. Still, I took a chance and applied. The last day of admissions, I visited the university to check my result. I looked down the list, and there it was, “Parashram J. Patil”. Finally, I’d been admitted. Now, it was the last day to pay, so I had to find money to cover my fees. Helpless, I sat outside the department head—Professor Parth’s office. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ From then on, things changed. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version Helpless I sat outside the department head—Professor Parth’s office. Head held in my hands, I contained my tears, thinking that my dreams of higher education would finish there. Perhaps my teachers and the whole village were right. “I wouldn’t amount to anything.” Seeing me sitting there sad, Professor Parth invited me in. When he heard the situation of mine, Professor Parth remained silent for a while. Then he promised to lend me money to pay the fees, believing I could have a bright future. I felt too grateful to say a word. From then on, things changed. I was able to shake off the bad boy image. Everyone in the university had a purpose. Being in that atmosphere forced me to think bigger. Every time I was stuck in a difficult situation, Professor Parth’s encouraging words would echo in my mind. It was his kindness and faith in me that inspired me to go on. He helped a bad village boy turn his life around. Sometimes, kindness may be powerful enough to make a real difference. 词汇激活 行为类 ①摆脱:shake off/get rid of ②克制:contain/hold back ③能够:be able to/be capable of 情绪类 ①感谢:grateful/thankful ②强大:powerful/mighty 【点睛】[高分句型1] When he heard the situation of mine, Professor Parth remained silent for a while. C. Carole Lindstrom. D. Jane Goodall. B I’ve lived in Cardigan Bay (卡迪根海湾) in West Wales since I was a few months old. A Keeping that personal touch. C The rise of body neutrality You define (定义) beauty yourself. ①②/③/④⑤/⑥ D 13-year-old Ava Dorsey is the founder of Ava’s Pet Palace, a business that sells organic dog and cat treats.“I actually had the idea when I was six with a picture I drew of a palace,”she says.It was a detailed design for dogs and cats and she had serious plans to build it one day. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
