“Your playful days are over,” my brother said to me when he knew I was going to be a Senior One student. Then he continued telling me that senior school life was boring because I had to do a large amount of homework every day. The subjects were much more difficult than those of junior school.
I stepped into the school gate with a nervous heart. However, I was surprised to find what I experienced there was completely different from what my brother had told me.
The teachers gave excellent lessons in their own special way. They talked with me in a natural and fair way, as if I was an adult. All of them are so knowledgeable (学识渊博) and they not only explained the contents of textbooks but also provided extra information from other sources. Every word they said in classes made me so excited and interested that I had a strong desire to take in as much as I could.
In fact, my playful days were not over at all in senior school. There were many kinds of activities I could take part in. For example, sports meetings, the art festival, English corner, outing and so on. Best of all, generally, students organized the activities rather than teachers. Through this process, I improved my leadership abilities and communication skills. I’ve become mature (成熟的). I am not a kid any more.
Now if anyone asks me: “Through your process of growing up, which part is most impressive up till now?” Well, the answer will absolutely be my “senior high school life”.

6. What has the writer learned by joining in different after-class activities?
A. Leadership and social skills.
B. The understanding of textbooks.
C. Reading and writing skills.
D. Doing housework.
7. What can you learn from the last paragraph?
A. His senior school life is the most memorable.
B. Senior school life was boring and tiring.
C. He will no longer believe in his brother.
D. The writer did well in all his subjects.

At the age of 16, Lasse Stolley from Germany went out for a change after graduation from junior high school. Little did he know that this change would take him farther than 500,000 kilometers — all on trains.
Inspired by a movie he had watched online, Stolley bought a Bahncard 100, a ticket that allows unlimited (无限制的) travel on all Deutsche Bahn trains in Germany for a year. But Stolley didn’t just travel on those trains. He made his home on trains, living there full-time. During the day, he took trips and at night, he slept across the seats on high-speed trains.
“I can decide every day where I want to go, whether to the Alps, to a big city or to the sea,” Stolley said.
Each morning, Stolley would check the train connections for the day, and decide what journeys he would take based on the weather and his mood (心情). He might stop off at a swimming pool for a shower, or enjoy the views with a hike between train rides.
While he didn’t pay rent, Stolley said that he had spent around $10,000 a year on living expenses, including his $6,400 train pass and entry cost to things like swimming pools. But since Stolley was a “Platinum” Deutsche Bahn customer, he could eat from Deutsche Bahn for free.
To cover his extra cost, he made a buck on the move by working as a programmer from his laptop (手提电脑). In 2023 alone, Stolley spent over 3,700 hours on trains. He also took trains across Europe with an Interrail pass, and travelled as far as Ankara in Turkey. All of his adventures were recorded on his online blog, named “Life on the Train”.
8. What drove Stolley’s interest in travelling by train?
A. A lesson. B. A book. C. A ticket. D. A film.
9. Why was Stolley’s journey special?
A. He lived on trains. B. He never got off the same train.
C. His train journey lasted over a year. D. He didn’t spend any money.
10. What do the underlined words “a buck” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. A choice. B. Paper. C. A difference. D. Money.
11. Which word can best describe Stolley?
A. Honest. B. Adventurous. C. Easygoing. D. Warmhearted.
D
Researchers have long imagined small flying robots dealing with difficult tasks. However, fitting the heavy electronics into the robot has been challenging. Now, there is hope, thanks to RoboBee X-Wing- the world’s lightest flying machine that can fly without being equipped(配备)with a power source.
Made public by Harvard researchers on June 26, 2019, the robot only weights 259 milligrams and has a wingspan of 3. 5 centimeters. Its four tiny wings, which can flap(振翅)up to 170 times a second, are controlled by motors that work when the current passes through them. Six small solar cells, fitted above the wings to prevent them influencing the flight, provide the power.
To test its flying ability, the team, led by postdoctoral fellow Noah Jafferis and PhD student Elizabeth Helbling, exposed (显露)the robot’s solar cells to a combination of halogen and LED lighting. To their joy, the robot's wings began to flap, and it rose, lasting about half a second. Though the robot lost its flight ability as soon as the power source was turned off, its short flight was regarded as a hug milestone for the future of tiny flying robots.
However, though the robot is a step in the right direction, RoboBee X-Wing is far from perfect. It requires light three times brighter than the sun to operate. In addition, RoboBee X-Wing is not equipped to resist even a slight wind, let alone the strong one it is likely to meet as it goes about performing important tasks. But Jafferis and Helbling, who published their research in the journal Nature, are not downcast. The team is already working on a new and improved robot-one that is 25 percent bigger and needs light just 1. 5 times brighter than the sun to work.
12. What has been the challenge for flying robots?
A. Its big size.
B. Its shape.
C. Its heavy weight.
D. Its power supply.
13. What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A. The experiment on RoboBee X-Wing.
B. The improvement on RoboBee X-Wing.
C. The disadvantage of RoboBee X-Wing.
D. The development of RoboBee X-Wing.
14. What does the underlined word “downcast” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A. Disappointed.
B. Bored.
C. Surprised.
D. Satisfied.
15. Where is this text most likely from?
A. A travel guidebook.
B. A research paper.
C. A music magazine.
D. An art book.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The frightening day of our diving test was here. Our parents thought we were lucky to have an Olympic-size swimming pool at the school. My mom stressed that the swimming pool was one of the best in our city. But I didn’t feel happy about it at all. Instead, I felt afraid of the swimming pool. It was mainly because I was terribly shy.
I was so shy that I always sat at the back of the room in class so I’d not be called upon to read. As for the present physical education class each Monday morning, I would work my way to the back of the line forming at the diving board so I would not have to practice the dives.
Now, it was another Monday morning - the morning of our diving test. My blood ran cold when the teacher Ms. Robbins announced that we would be graded for our final on the most difficult dive- the jackknife. And she added, “This diving test is important. The one who fails has to spare time in the following Monday mornings to practice diving in this swimming pool and attend this test again.”
My body kept shaking with fear as the line to the scary diving board shortened. As I watched, each student seemed to perform the challenging dive effortlessly. And shortly I would have to attempt something that I had never even practiced before.
Then I remembered someone telling me that when you picture yourself doing a skill over and over, it’s just as effective as physically practicing that skill. So I watched carefully as each classmate jumped at the end of the board once, added a jump for height, folded their body in half to reach for their toes, and finally straightened out like an arrow for going into the water. After carefully watching for a while, I was actually in a state of surprise, because all of a sudden I realized that it was possible for me to perform these four steps of diving.
Eventually all classmates except me finished jumping. The teacher announced that it was my turn.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡相应位置作答。
With my heart knocking wildly, I walked down the diving board towards its end.

D. Money.

【答案】12. D 13. A 14. A 15. B

(现在,多亏了机器人RoboBee X-Wing,我们有了希望——世界上最轻的飞行器,无需配备电源。)”以及根据第二段句子“Six small solar cells, fitted above the wings to prevent them influencing the flight, provide the power.(六个小型太阳能电池安装在机翼上方,以防止它们影响飞行,提供电力。)”可知,飞行机器人一直面临的挑战是电力供应。故选D。
【13题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第三段句子“To test its flying ability, the team, led by postdoctoral fellow Noah Jafferis and PhD student Elizabeth Helbling, exposed (显露) the robot’s solar cells to a combination of halogen and LED lighting. To their joy, the robot’s wings began to flap, and it rose, lasting about half a second. Though the robot lost its flight ability as soon as the power source was turned off, its short flight was regarded as a hug milestone for the future of tiny flying robots. ( 为了测试它的飞行能力,博士后研究员Noah Jafferis和博士生Elizabeth Helbling带领的研究小组将机器人的太阳能电池暴露在卤素灯和led灯的组合下。让他们高兴的是,机器人的翅膀开始拍打,然后上升起来,持续了大约半秒钟。虽然电源一关闭就失去了飞行能力,但它的短途飞行被认为是未来微型飞行机器人的里程碑。)”。可推断本段描述了RoboBee X-Wing的实验过程。故选A。
14题详解】
词义猜测题。根据划线词后文句子“The team is already working on a new and improved robot — one that is 25 percent bigger and needs light just 1.5 times brighter than the sun to work.( 该团队已经在研发一种新的、改进的机器人——它大25%,只需要比太阳亮1.5倍的光就可以工作)” 结合前文“In addition, RoboBee X-Wing is not equipped to resist even a slight wind, let alone the strong one it is likely to meet as it goes about performing important tasks.( 此外,机器人蜜蜂的x翼没有装备来抵抗即使是轻微的风,更不用说它在执行重要任务时可能遇到的强风了)”和but可推断,尽管结果不尽人意,但是这种情况之下, Jafferis和Helbling并没有沮丧。 故划线词与A项意思相近,故选A。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段的“Now, there is hope, thanks to RoboBee X-Wing — the world’s lightest flying machine that can fly without being equipped (配备) with a power source.(现在,多亏了机器人RoboBee X-Wing,我们终于有了希望——这是世界上最轻的飞行器,无需配备电源即可飞行)”以及下文内容可知,本文主要介绍了研究人员对小型机器人飞行能力的测试过程和取得的成就。这应该是一篇科普文章,因此推断应该来自于科学杂志,故选B。

How about going out next Saturday morning? If it’s convenient for you, let’s meet at the school gate at 9: 00. Please let me know what time suits you best. I should be available anytime next weekend.
In addition, next Saturday, there will be a flower show in Beihai Park. Then we can go to see the flowers together.
I am looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

【答案】One possible version:
With my heart knocking wildly, I walked down the diving board towards its end. Looking down, I found all my classmates were looking up at me. My face suddenly felt hot. Finally, I ignored them. Picturing the four steps of diving, I jumped. Then I folded my body but failed to reach for my toes. And instead of entering the water like an arrow, I fell into the water, with my body being flat. As a result, it caused a huge sound, which made all the classmates burst out laughing.
Knowing I failed, I climbed out of the pool, embarrassed. After class, Ms. Robbins comforted and encouraged me. In the following many Monday mornings, I practiced again and again under her guidance. Gradually, I became more confident and less shy. Finally, I attended the diving test again and performed well. This time, my classmates cheered and clapped. I was so glad. I knew my success resulted from my beating my shyness and my hard practice.
