After wining the under-14 title (冠军) in the Guangzhou stop of the 2022 ASICS Tennis Junior Tour, an audience member from Yunnan gave him the bamboo basket as a gift and the photos were taken.
“We always carry bamboo baskets when we work in the field. This is a typical farming tool of the Va ethnic group. I carried my rackets in this basket to honor my hometown,” Wang said after the match.
Before tennis, Wang was just an ordinary boy from a village. But in 2016, he was chosen by a local club as one of the first 10 local children to learn to play professional tennis, “I was nervous at the beginning because the outside world was so different from my home,” he said, adding that tennis has helped him make more friends and get a better education.
Over the past six years, Wang, along with other players at the Yunnan Wild Elephants Tennis Club, has trained hard to improve his skills and physical strength. The children would get up at 6:30 a.m, and practice for more than six hours a day, Every day, they need to swing a racket more than 7,000 times and run 9 kilometers.
“If it were not for tennis, I would still be helping out my family with farmwork back home,” Wang said.
Wang’s parents didn’t want him to learn tennis at first because they couldn’t afford it. But the tennis club offered to teach him for free. Wang’s hometown, the mountainous Cangyuan Va autceomous county, was just lifted out of poverty (脱贫) in 2019, reported China Daily. Suppose you are out shopping and come across an old friend who starts telling you a story that seems to be dragging on and on. You want to seem interested, so you offer the occasional “Oh” or “I see”. To your surprise, though, this person angrily stops and says, “Sorry if I’m boring you!”
Where did this come from? Clearly, your body language must have let out your inner feelings. The idea that verbal (口头的) and nonverbal messages can conflict was the inspiration for a recently published study from Yale University’s Lueylle Armentano.
To test the role of verbal-nonverbal mismatch on emotional communication, Armentano and her partner created experimental conditions to see what happens when someone asks for help from strangers. The research team created videotapes of a fellow Yale student expressing nervousness in his words, bodily gestures, or both. The bodily gestures included running his hands through his hair, grabbing his arm, and facially expressing uneasiness. The key question was whether the other participants, another 82 Yale students, would believe the student and provide the help he was requesting. They needed to give their responses.
Turning to the findings, those nonverbal cues (提示) of nervousness had a greater impact on helping behavior than the verbal cues. Surprisingly, helping behavior was the highest when verbal expressions of nervousness were low but nonverbal cues were high.
Recognizing that your body language can outweigh your words means that you need to be mindful of what your body is doing when you’re interacting with others. Generally, when someone is speaking to you, you want to look like you’re interested. Not only should you maintain eye contact, but you should keep your body still and face toward the other person.
28.What is the main idea of paragraph 1?
A.The obvious advantages of body language.
B.The proper way to interact with old friends.
C.A situation where body language is necessary.
D.An example of the conflict of verbal and nonverbal messages.

A.Try to win the nervous student’s trust.
B.Identify the types of body language.
C.Respond to the nervous student’s request.
D.Express nervousness in their words.
30.What would probably win kindness from strangers?
A.Positive attitude to nervousness. B.Good manners in front of others.
C.Sincere verbal expressions. D.Nonverbal cues of nervousness
31.What is the purpose of the writer in the last paragraph?
A.Give some warnings. B.Present some facts.
C.Offer suggestions. D.Make a prediction

Archaeologists in Egypt have unearthed a Sphinx statue (狮身人面像) with a smiley face near the Hathor Temple, one of the country’s best preserved ancient sites. The smiling Sphinx is much smaller than the famous Sphinx in Giza, which is 20 metres high. The stone work of art, believed to be a stylized representation of an ancient Roman emperor, was found inside a two-level tomb near the temple in southern Egypt.
Next to the beautifully and accurately carved Sphinx, researchers had found a Roman stone written in hieroglyph Once fully translated, the stone may unveil the identity of the sculpted ruler, who could be Emperor Claudius.
The smiling Sphinx is among a series of discoveries announced over the past few months. The country has uncovered major archaeological discoveries in recent months, primarily in the Saqqara cemetery (墓地) south of Cairo as well as in Giza, home to the only surviving structure of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Recently, Egypt announced the discovery of a hidden nine-metre passage inside the Great Pyramid of Giza, which may lead to the actual burial room of pharaoh (法老) Khufu, or Cheops. Further south, in Luxor, archaeologists had discovered a 1,800-year-old complete residential city from the Roman times.
Hathor Temple, about 500 kilometres south of the capital Cairo, was home to the Dendera Zodiac, a heavenly map which has been displayed at the Louvre in Paris for more than a century. Since Frenchman Sebastien Louis Saulnier took it out of the temple in 1922, Egypt has been attempting to get it back.
Some experts see such announcements as having more political and economic weight than scientific, as Egypt is counting on tourism to revive its vital tourism industry in a severe economic crisis. The government aims to draw in 30 million tourists a year by 2028.
32.What do we know about the smiling Sphinx?
A.Its owner was confirmed as an ancient Roman ruler.
B.It has been the best-preserved Sphinx till now.
C.It is as high as 20 metres like the Sphinx of Giza.
D.It was discovered close to the Hathor Temple.
33.What does the underlined word “unveil” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Reveal.

34.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.The diversity of cultural relics in Egypt.
B.The discoveries made recently in Egypt.
C.The status of the Great Pyramid of Giza.
D.The new discovery about pharaoh Khufu.
35.What does Egypt expect most from the recent discoveries?

My mother believed in using things up. Last year, our cornfield had a bad harvest because birds feasted on the crops. It was probably then that Mom’s frugality(节俭)became even more extraordinary. She began keeping everything that seemed useless in the attic(阁楼)—worn-out clothes, old sheets, broken umbrellas, and some other old items. Mom’s favorite saying was “waste not, want not”(俭以防匮). My brother Josh and I weren’t sure what that meant until the “Affair of the Scarecrow(稻草人)”, which, as it later became known, left a lasting impression on us.
The story began with a pretty hat that Mom received as a gift to protect her from the sun. However, Josh and I could see that Mom’s frugal nature and fashion sense were in battle. Mom really didn’t want to get rid of the hat—it was new and had a lot of use left in it—but neither could she stand wearing it. She tried to take off the fancy decorations, but they were stuck on tight. She’d have to find some other solution.
Josh and I watched as Mom headed upstairs to the attic with the hat. “Waste not, want not,” she called back down. We heard boxes being moved around. Moments later, Mom leaned out, holding a flour bag full of straw, and with a mysterious smile, she placed the hat on it.
“What is that for?” I asked, confused. “A scarecrow! ” Mom exclaimed. “But not a good one yet.It needs a strong body to stand firm in the field,” she said with a frown. “And it doesn’t look scary enough,” Josh remarked. I had to admit that Josh, though younger than I was, could sometimes be more imaginative. Josh and I turned to each other, searching for a good idea. Soon enough, Josh’s eyes lit up with inspiration.

1. 续写词数应为150左右;

M: At dawn on January 17th, 1995, the city of Kobe was rocked by earthquake tremors. The worst tremors reach 7. 2 on the Richter scale. Kobe is Japan’s sixth largest city. It is also one of the world’s largest ports. Within minutes, Kobe was a disaster area.
How bad was the damage? The earthquake was the worst to hit Japan in 72 years. There were more than 6,000 people dead. More than 35,000 were injured, and nearly 310,000 were left homeless. Some 75,000 buildings were damaged or destroyed. Total damage was estimated at $90 billion.
What did people learn from the Kobe earthquake? What happened in Kobe suggests that the earthquake hazard was not taken seriously enough. Some people believe that more can be done to reduce the damage. They propose the following. More work should be put into quake-proof buildings. Walls should be built to protect towns on the coast from large waves. Providers of emergency services must be better trained and better prepared. Citizens must be better educated on what to do when an earthquake strikes.
The major barrier to doing more is cost. Japan finds itself trying to balance the cost against the risk of a strong earthquake.

故填to break。
故填an。
在when, while, if, as if, though (或although), as, until, once, whether, unless, where等连词连接的状语从句中,常省略跟主句相同的主语和be动词。结合句意,分析子可知,“When (face) with difficulties”是时间状语从句,原句为“When we are faced with difficulties”,符合状语从句省略条件,省略we are后,应保留过去分词faced。故填faced。
故填that。
in the face of是固定短语,意为“面对……”。故填in。

67.“Come with me!” Josh called out. The next instant, he raced upstairs with lighting speed. I hurried to follow him into the attic, where we began a thorough search. Mom was amused by our excitement when we found the broken umbrellas and use them as the backbone of the scarecrow. After that, we sorted out some old sheets and tied them on, The scarecrow now looked even scarier. We dragged our creation to the cornfield and planted it firmly in the mud, our hearts full of hope.
In the days that followed, the scarecrow stood proudly. Serving as a silent guardian, it successfully scared the birds away. Under its watchful eyes, our cornfield flourished this year. To our amazement, Mom’s useless things from the attic had come together to create something extraordinary. As we enjoyed a good harvest, her favorite saying, “waste not, want not”, echoed in our hearts. The “Affair of the Scarecrow” has taught us the value of creatively transforming seemingly useless items into treasure, making us aware that frugality is a good quality after all.
