There are a total of eight spots on G213, which we call the elephant tracks. The elephant track is where elephants are most likely to cross the road. The safety of the visitors and passers-by is something that we should deal with first.
W: Where can visitors see the wild elephants?
M: Our guides will help visitors to safely observe the wild elephants from a distance.

【答案】18.A 19.C 20.B
M: I remember that when I was in my teens, I used to disobey many rules my parents told me. For example, my parents were very particular about the friends I went out with, always warning me that “one rotten apple could ruin a whole basket of apples.” When I wanted to sleep with my pet dog Peppy, they immediately said NO because they thought that I would be bitten by fleas. Today, however, I am also the father of a boy of fifteen, and I find that I, too, am pressuring my son with a lot of rules that he seems to find hard to follow. The other day, I noticed that my son’s hair was too long, so I told him to have it cut short. Ordinarily, he is fairly obedient (顺从的),but this time he put his foot down. “What’s wrong with long hair?” he said, “I don’t think you have the right to order me to cut it short, even if you’re my father.” When I was a boy, if I had spoken like this to my father, I know that he would have given me a good beating. But I suddenly realized that we are now living in a more liberal world, and that my son’s wearing his hair long was merely an example of the generation gap that existed between us. So I give in, and so he still wears his hair long.

A single working-class woman named Christine left her child at home due to overtime work and found her son missing when she returned home. The police first refused to accept the report within 24 hours, and then the case made little progress. Five months later, the police suddenly told Christine that they had found her son and brought a large group of media to the train station to meet him.
Although Christine immediately recognized that the boy was not her son, the little boy insisted repeatedly that he was her son, and the police chief also tried to persuade her that she might not recognize him after being away from him for so long. As a result, newspapers were filled with news of the reunion of mother and son, and the Los Angeles police regained some face. However, based on the boy’s height, circumcision status, and the judgments of dentists and teachers, Christine was convinced that the child was definitely not hers. She hoped that the police would continue to search for her son, but her request was rejected, and she was even imprisoned in a mental hospital as a mental patient.
Christine then realized that many of the women there were imprisoned for opposing the police and would only be released if they promised not to cause any more trouble. Fortunately, Christine had the support of Pastor Gustav Briegleb, who had always hated the police. He helped Christine transform from a helpless woman into a fighter who stood in court and confronted the Los Angeles police. On the other hand, the whereabouts of her son gradually became clear with the arrest of a psychopathic killer. Her son had a chance to escape, but he resolutely returned to the killer’s farm to help another fallen partner, and from then on, there was no news of him. Christine spent her entire life searching for her son, but she never found him until her death. This true story filled with adversity and courage was adapted into a classic suspense film in 2008.

The warning signs are all there: record-breaking heat, failing health, vanishing ice sheets, and more unpredictable weather. And yet we’re still pumping increasing amounts of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere, threatening our very survival.
A new study by an international team of experts highlights how global methane (甲烷) emissions have been rising rapidly since 2006, particularly since 2020. We’ll perpetuate the trend unless we do something extreme very soon. The study’s authors have then outlined some strategies countries can use to take action, and developed an online tool to help with this.
This continual climb in methane emissions is largely due to the ongoing use of fossil fuels in preference to cleaner alternatives. It’s directly produced by oil, gas, and coal drilling and processing. The increasing release of methane from natural wetlands, caused by a hotter climate, is now also contributing.
“Worldwide efforts to limit climate change are rightly focused on carbon dioxide (CO2), the primary driver,” the team writes in their published paper. “However, since humanity has failed to adequately address climate change for several decades, keeping warming below agreed goals now requires that we address all major climate pollutants.”
There is currently much less methane in our atmosphere than CO2, but methane is a stronger greenhouse gas. We know that methane is a major contributor to the warming of the world, trapping heat like CO2 does. It also contributes to the formation of ozone at ground level, increasing the risk of death through diseases related lungs and heart.
All these different methane sources need to be urgently looked at. The study finds: Methane reduction targets should be applied alongside CO2 reduction targets, and new technologies and policies need to be introduced.
“A change in thinking from governments and organizations is required,” said one of the researchers. “We have created a new online tool to help with the reduction of methane emissions. This tool should help to target reductions effectively and monitor expected improvements.”
28.What does the underlined word “perpetuate” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.prevent B.control C.continue D.recognize.
29.What is the main cause of the continuous rise in methane emissions?
A.More emission of CO2 B.Ongoing animal farming
C.Continued use of fossil fuels D.Modern agricultural development
30.According to the study, what may increasing methane emissions bring about?
A.Health risks caused by ozone B.Limiting the formation of ozone
C.A decrease in global temperatures D.An increase in risk of brain disorder
31.What is the researcher’s attitude to the new online tool?
A.Critical B.Confident C.Cautious D.Disappointed
【答案】28.C 29.C 30.A 31.B
由文章划线词上文“A new study by an international team of experts highlights how global methane (甲烷) emissions have been rising rapidly since 2006, particularly since 2020. (一个国际专家小组的一项新研究强调,自2006年以来,尤其是自2020年以来,全球甲烷排放量迅速上升)”和下文“the trend unless we do something extreme very soon (除非我们很快采取极端措施,否则这一趋势)”可知,如果不采取行动,球甲烷排放量迅速上升的这种趋势会持续下去。由此可知,划线词perpetuate的意思是“继续,持续”。A. Prevent阻止;B. Control控制;C. Continue继续;D. Recognise识别。故选C。
由文章第三段中“This continual climb in methane emissions is largely due to the ongoing use of fossil fuels in preference to cleaner alternatives. (甲烷排放量的持续攀升主要是由于人们继续使用化石燃料,而不是更清洁的替代品)”可知,甲烷排放量持续上升的主要原因是持续使用化石燃料。故选C。

In a new study, researchers used artificial intelligence (AI) to confirm that an app can identify poison ivy (毒藤).
Poison ivy ranks among the most medically problematic plants. Up to 50 million people worldwide suffer annually from rashes (皮疹) caused by contact with the plant, a climbing, woody vine native to America and several areas in Asia.
It’s found on farms, in woods, landscapes, fields, hiking trails, and other open spaces. So, if you go to those places, poison ivy can lead to reactions that require medical attention. Worse, most people don’t know poison ivy when they see it.
The new app could help change that.
“We were the first to do this, and it was designed as a tool for hikers or others working outdoors,” says Nathan Boyd, a professor at the UF/IFAS Gulf Coast Research and Education Center. “The app uses a camera to identify in real time if poison ivy is present and provides you with a measure of certainty for the detection. It also functions even if you are not connected with the Internet.”
The next step is to make the app commercially available, and there’s no timetable for that yet, Boyd says.
For the study, researchers collected thousands of images of poison ivy from five locations.
They labeled images, and in each image, scientists put boxes around the leaves and stems (茎) of the plant. The boxed images were critical because poison ivy has a unique leaf arrangement and shape. Scientists use those characteristics to identify the plant.
They then ran the images through AI programs and taught a computer to recognize which plants are poison ivy. They also included images of plants that are not poison ivy or plants that look like poison ivy to be certain the computer learns to distinguish them.
“We believe that by integrating an object-detection algorithm (算法), public health, and plant science, our research can encourage and support further investigations to understand poison ivy distribution and minimize health concerns,” Boyd says.
32.Who will the app benefit most?
A.A computer programmer B.A medical science student
C.A Mexican forest adventurer D.A crazy South African hiker
33.What does the last four paragraphs mainly talk about?
A.How the app makes profit. B.Why the app is invented.
C.How the app is developed. D.Why the app can work.
34.Which of the following can describe the app?
A.Impractical B.Convenient C.Curative D.Cheap
35.Which of the following is the most suitable title?
A.AI APP DETECTS POISON IVY B.AI APP SAVES POISON IVY
C.GOOD NEWS TO RASH PATIENTS D.GOOD TOOL FOR HIKERS
【答案】32.D 33.C 34.B 35.A

San Diego’s newest giant pandas made their public appearance on Thursday in the San Diego Zoo’s Panda Ridge habitat. The pair, Yun Chuan and Xin Bao, are the first giant pandas 56 (enter) the United States in 21 years, according to the zoo.
“Our newest residents will bring joy to our visitors 57 symbolize the enduring spirit of international conservation efforts.” said Paul Baribault, President and CEO of San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, in a July statement.
The Panda Ridge habitat 58 the pair will live is four times larger than the previous panda enclosure, the zoo said, and takes cues (仿效) from China’s landscape, 59 features imitating canyons, mountains and cliffs.
56.to enter 57.and 58.where 59.with 60.an 61.admission 62.referred 63.has worked/has been working 64.closely 65.providing
此处需要用一个非谓语动词短语来修饰短语the first giant pandas,由于giant pandas被序数词first修饰,因此使用不定式to enter作为后置定语。故填to enter。
故填and。
故填where。
故填with。
故填an。
故填has worked/has been working。

On a Friday evening in December, two weeks before Christmas, I lost my job. I hadn’t seen it coming. I was excited for the weekend, when my daughter, Kristil, then 12, and I planned to get our Christmas tree. Then I listened to my voicemail: “We’re sorry but your work assignment has ended as of today.” My heart sank.
I wasn’t just a single parent; I was the only parent. My paycheck was survival.
The next day as we searched for our tree, I struggled to be cheerful as I eyed each price tag.
“Is everything OK?” Kristil asked. “You seem worried.”
“I got some bad news yesterday,” I told her. “I lost my job.”
“Oh no,” Kristil said. “Well, I have $100 from Grandma I can give you.”
“Absolutely not.” I told her.
In the following days, I furiously applied for jobs as my bank account grew smaller. I felt as if the world was closing in on me. One afternoon, I dropped Kristil in a wealthy gated community for a birthday party. I watched as she went in, surrounded by all the nice things we couldn’t afford. I drove home defeated.
Back at home, I glanced out the window. It had been snowing on and off all morning. I noticed a thin woman with short white hair struggling to open her car door against the wind. As she got out, I realized it was my old professor, Esther Heffernan. I hadn’t seen her since we met for lunch three months ago.
I rushed to the front of my building. “What are you doing out in this weather? ”I asked as we hugged. “Well, I tried to call last week but couldn’t get through. Then I called your job and they said you weren’t working there anymore, so I thought I would come by.” Esther said, “I have gifts for you and Kristl.”
I made her a cup of tea, and we talked. Just being in Esther’s presence gave me hope that things would be all right. As she got up to leave, she handed me a Christmas card. “This is for you.” I walked her to her car and waved as she pulled away.

Para 1:
When I opened her card, hundred-dollar bills fell onto the table. My eyes widened in surprise as I counted them. There were five crisp notes, totaling five hundred dollars. My heart swelled with gratitude towards Esther. In the card, she had written, “You and Kristil deserve a special Christmas. Use this to make some memories. Remember, tough times don’t last, but tough people do. You’re one of them.” Tears welled up in my eyes as I realized the depth of her kindness and the belief she had in me. This unexpected gift was not just financial aid; it was a vote of confidence and a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there are people who care.
Para 2:
On Christmas Eve, I decided to pass on the goodwill. I took Kristil to the local toy store and explained to her how Esther’s generosity had touched our lives. Together, we carefully selected toys for children at the local orphanage, ensuring that each gift was wrapped beautifully with love. We also picked up a few extra groceries and warm clothing to donate. As we left the store, Kristil’s eyes sparkled with joy, and I knew that in giving, she had found her own sense of purpose and happiness. Later, when we visited the orphanage to deliver the gifts, the children’s smiles and excitement were contagious. It was a magical moment, one that I will always cherish. That Christmas Eve, I learned that the true spirit of giving lies not in receiving but in being able to make a difference in someone else’s life. And with Esther’s help, we had done just that.

24.What was the initial response of the police when Christine reported her son missing?
A.They immediately began searching for the child.
B.They declined to accept the report within one day.
C.They questioned Christine’s mental state.
D.They provided a full investigation from the start.
25.Why did Christine believe the boy presented to her by the police was not her son?
A.Because he didn’t look like her physically.
B.Because he didn’t recognize her immediately.
C.Because some of his physical features didn’t fit.
D.Because the police chief told her she might not recognize him.
26.What was the fate of Christine after she insisted that the boy was not her son?
A.She was praised. B.She was released.
C.She was imprisoned. D.She was supported.
27.What can be inferred about Christine’s son from the passage?
A.He managed to escape from the psychopathic killer and lived a happy life.
B.He bravely returned to help another victim, but his fate remained unknown.
C.He was eventually found alive and reunited with Christine.
D.He had been living with the killer all along, unaware of his true identity.

D

D

San Diego’s newest giant pandas made their public appearance on Thursday in the San Diego Zoo’s Panda Ridge habitat. The pair, Yun Chuan and Xin Bao, are the first giant pandas 56 (enter) the United States in 21 years, according to the zoo.
