About 90% of the population in the world is right-handed, But according to a report, lots of famous people are left-handed. For example, American presidents such as George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama are left-handed. So are Leonardo da Vinci , Bill Gates, Seven Jobs and so on. What does that mean? Are left-handed people smarter than the right-handed?
To answer this question, scientists studied 2,300 right-handed and left-handed students between the ages 6 and 17 in Italy. The students were asked to work out some math problems. There was no difference when they looked at the easier math problems. But left-handed students did better at the more difficult problems.
In fact, left-handedness has not always been seen in such a positive way. In the pamphlet(小册子) The Prevention and Correction of left-handedness in children written by J.W. Conway in 1936, left-handedness was described as a serious " lillness".
Prejudices(偏见)against left-handed people are built into our language. To be someone's " right-hand man" is good. It means you are a person who can help a lot.
But having "two left feet" or receiving a " left-handed compliment(赞扬)" is bad. The word itself comes from the old English. "lyft" mean weak or broken. These prejudices not only appear in English. The French word for left is "gauche" which means "awkward(笨拙的)", while "droite", the French word for right , means "clever".
26.Which of the following is TRUE according to the first paragraph?
About 10% of humans worldwide are left-handed.
Most of US presidents are left-handed.
About 10% of rich men worldwide are left-handed.
Most of famous people are left-handed.
27.What do we know from the study?
A.Right-handed students liked math more.
B.Right-handed students worked out more math problems.
C.Left-handed students did better at easy math problems.
D.Left-handed students were better at difficult math problems.
28.The underlined word " positive" in the paragraph 3 probably means "____"in Chinese.
29.Which of the following is a left-handed compliment?
A.You helped me a lot.
B.You are a good dancer.
C.You can do it. Just try your best.
D.You've got a brain. Try using it.
30.What is probably the best tittle for the passage?

1. — This is ____film I've told you about several times.
— It's great. I've never seen ____more wonderful one.
A.a; a B.the; the C.a; the D.the; a
A:a; a。 B:the; the。 C:a; the。 D:the; a。
注意特指(the)与泛指(a/an)的区别。
2. — Why are you in such a hurry?
— It's 8:10 now. The class ____for 10 minutes.
A.begin
B.has been on
C.begins D has begun
3. The book was made ____bamboo and it was made ____six parts.
A.up of; of B.from; up of C.in; up of D.from; of
A:up of; of。 B:from; up of。 C:in; up of。 D:from; of。
注意"made from"和"made up of"的区别,以及它们如何与句意相匹配。
4.—Which dress do you like best, madam?
— Sorry, I can't decide ____now.
A.to buy which one B.buy which one
C.which one to buy D.Which one should I buy
A:to buy which one。 C:which one to buy。 D:Which one should I buy。
5. — I'm sorry to ____on you but could you raise your voice a lttle?
— OK, I will.
A.cut down B.cut off C.cut out D.cut in

A:cut down削减,减少。B:cut off切断,中断。C:cut out删除。D:cut in插嘴,打断。固定搭配"cut in on you"表示"打断你的话"。
6. ____you have done! We are grateful to you for what you have done for the children in poor areas.
A.How meaningful work B.How meaningful job
C.What a meaningful job D.What a meaningful work
7. You still have some pocket money ____. Why not ____?
A.to leave; give it up B.left; throw it away
C.to leave; hand it out D.left; give it away
为什么不把它捐赠出去呢?A:to leave; give it up要离开;放弃。B:left; throw it away剩下;扔掉。C:to leave; hand it out要离开;分发。D:left; give it away剩下;捐赠。根据You still have some pocket money可知此处需要表达"你还有一些零花钱剩下"的意思,left 作为过去分词修饰 pocket money,表示这些钱是剩下的。
8.—Which bicycle should I choose, sir?
—It ______ what you want to use it for.
A.takes on B.carries on C.puts on D.depends on

9. A lot of things ____in this shop, and the fruit vegetables in it ____very well.
A.are sold; sell B.are sold; sells
C.sell; sells D.sell; sell
【答案】A
A:are sold; sell 被卖;卖。B:are sold; sells 故选A。
10. — No one could be more suitable for the job than you.
— Thanks. Your words have made me more ____of my interview.
A.creative B.confident C.nervous D.relaxed
No one could be more suitable for the job than you

根据their lost dog 和I was unable to see her there可知 Peter 家的狗走丢了,所以此处指周日早上,Peter 和妻子发现他们家的狗Bonnie 不见了。
A: why为什么;B: when什么时候;C: because因为;D: but但是。根据 Bonnie was normally there first 和 I was unable to see her there,可判断此处为转折关系,即之前狗狗在但是现在不见了。
A: purpose目的;B: problem问题;C: reason原因;D: way方式,方法。 make one's way to...
A: quickly快速地;B: politely礼貌地;C: suddenly突然地;D: luckily幸运地。根据with their two daughters可知有两个女儿的帮助应该搜的比较快,A项quickly符合题意。故选A。
A: handed递交;B: called呼叫;C: joined加入;D: succeeded成功。根据上一句中的"did afull search around thehouse with their two daughters"可知,他们在房子周围进行了全面搜索,结合空前的even和空后的too可推知,他们的邻居也加入了进来一起帮着搜索。故选C。
A: hardly几乎不;B: never从不;C: only只有;D: still仍然。根据"Iwas unable to see her there"可知,Peter没有看到Bonnie;再根据空后的nowhere to be seen可推断,此处指(他们)仍然没有找到 Bonnie。故选D。
A: accept接受;B: worry担心;C: change改变;D: move移动。根据下一段中的"while the humans were in apanic"可知,他们惊慌失措,故此处指他们开始担忧起来。
A: them他们;B: her她;C: him他;D:us我们。 Bonnie is normally there first...see her there"可知,上文用 her 指代Bonnie。
A: picked up捡起,捎某人一程;B: paid for支付;C: threw away扔掉;D: turned down拒绝。 He was driving his two dogs to a dog show."可知,Wilmer 正开车带着他的狗去比赛;根据空后的"brought her to the event"可推断,Wilmer 载着Bonnie 去比赛现场了。故选A。
A: out外面;B: on在……上;C: with和……一起;D: at在……处。根据空前的got in touch可知,此处考查固定短语 get in touch with......
A: enter进入,参加;B: turn转向;C: run跑;D: look看。 She came away from the show with a rosette for third place可知,Bonnie获得了第三名。 故选A。
A: decision决定 B: chance机会 C: habit习惯 D: difference不同。 She came away from the show with a rosette for third place可知,Bonnie 获得了第三名;结合上一句中的"he decided to help Bonnie...the competition"可知,此处指结果这是一个非常正确的决定。故选A。
A: jobs工作 B: suggestions建议 C: result结果 D: prizes奖品。 The best was that she came back."
A: thought想 B: replied回答 C: showed展示 D: added添加。 故选A。
A.Right or left? It is up to you.
B.Are left-handed people smarter?
C.Which hand do you often use?
D.How to be a left-hand person?
【答案】26.A
27.D

About 90% of the population in the world is right-handed",可知世界上大约90%的人是右撇子,那么左撇子就是剩下的10%左右。 About 10% of humans worldwide are left-handed." 故选A。
But left-handed students did better at the more difficult problems.",可知左撇子学生在解决更难的问题时表现更好。 Left-handed students were better at difficult math problems."
根据上文left-handed students did better at the more difficult problems可知左撇子有一定的优势,即这里的"positive"指的是"积极的"或"正面的"。
But having 'two left feet' or receiving a 'left-handed compliment' is bad.",可知"left-handed compliment"是不好的赞扬。 You've got a brain.
因此,B选项"Are left-handed people smarter?"(左撇子更聪明吗?)

When the king learned of that, he was mad and immediately ordered that the bird keeper be killed." 故选A
People were upset. They felt that their king was too harsh over a small matter." I'm sorry for your loss. It's fair for you to put the bird keeper to death for he has three crimes."
Free the bird keeper. I'm really lucky to have my minister." 故选A。
