Dear friends,
The environment in our city used to be clean and tidy. Trees and flowers were everywhere. But now all are in a mess. As a citizen, we should do what we can to protect it. First, we should plant more trees and flowers to make our city more beautiful. Also, always remember not to throw rubbish or pour waste water everywhere. Last but not least, we’d better ride a bike or walk when going out instead of driving a car.
81. In my opinion, if everyone tries his best to protect the environment, our city will become nicer and cleaner!
Thank you!

Hi, Lily. I have a lot of exams coming up in several weeks, and I’m stressed out. I don’t know how I will study for all of them. What should I do?
Danny
Hi, Danny. It’s normal to feel stressed out about exams, but it’s important to remember you can do it! You can start by making a plan to study. It’s also important to take breaks and get enough rest so your brain has time to process the information. Remember, it’s better to study for a little bit each day instead of trying to learn everything all at once. Good luck with the exams!

“Amy! Milk!” Mama called.
Milk. It was Amy’s turn to get it. Amy sighed (叹气) and shut her first-aid book.
Amy tied the cow close to a tree. Somewhere down the mountain, some volunteer doctors were teaching medical skills to village nurses. Amy heard Betty drive off hours ago. “She should have taken me with her,” Amy thought. “She’s wrong. I’m already 15!”
Amy carried the milk back to Mama, and then walked up the road. Roy, a village boy, was trying to stand on a horse’s back.
She had just turned away (转身) when she heard a heavy fall and a few cries. Roy was on the ground.
The kids didn’t know what to do. Amy ran to Roy and saw one of his legs out of shape. A broken leg! She remembered what the first-aid book said about it.
“Victor!” Amy called to one of the boys. “Go get Roy’s mama, and find someone with a truck.” She turned to the others. “Give me your shirts. We need something to tie his leg with.”
Amy then found a strong, straight stick (枝条). She carefully wrapped the shirts around Roy’s leg and the stick. When Amy was done, she looked up and saw Roy’s mama and a man watching beside a truck. “Thank you, Amy,” Roy’s mama said. Amy helped them lift Roy into the truck, and then they drove to the hospital.
The next day, Betty came. “I heard what you did,” Betty said. “You kept your head in an emergency (紧急情况). That’s an important skill.”
Amy’s face turned red. “I was afraid ...”
Betty shook her head. “It’s OK for a nurse to be afraid, as long as she has a clear head. The volunteer doctors are coming tomorrow with vaccines (疫苗). We need some more hands. Can you help?”

Parents are important in shaping their children’s lives. They make decisions and plans for their children. However, in my opinion, teenagers over the age of 15 should be allowed to make their own decisions.
To begin with, teenagers over 15 have the ability to make independent (独立的) decisions. With the rapid development of information and technology, today’s teenagers have a better understanding of the world. Compared with their parents, they are knowledgeable at an early age. So they can make independent decisions.
Making decisions helps teenagers feel confident. When teenagers are allowed to make decisions, they feel more confident in their ability to deal with problems. This can help them develop a stronger feeling of control over their lives.
By making decisions, teenagers learn to be independent. If parents make decisions for their children all the time, they will never learn to be responsible (负有责任的) for themselves. They will just depend on their parents for every choice in their lives, no matter how big or small it is.
When teenagers are allowed to make decisions, they may make mistakes (错误). But it doesn’t matter. That’s because they can learn from their mistakes and will do better next time. During the process, teenagers can develop critical (批判性的) thinking skills and problem-solving abilities.
Allowing teenagers to make decisions can improve relationships (关系) between children and parents. By giving children respect, parents can show that they trust their children to make good choices. With trust and respect, children will have more communication with their parents.
All in all, teenagers over 15 should be given the chance to make decisions. They have the ability to do so and that is good for them and even their parents.
56. Today’s teenagers have a better understanding of the world because of _______.
A. their parents
B. their school education
C. the communication between friends
D. the rapid development of information and technology
57. What does making decisions let teenagers become?
A. Active and independent. B. Confident and understanding.
C. Confident and independent. D. Active and understanding.

A. Developing critical thinking skills. B. Learning from mistakes.
C. Making decisions. D. Making mistakes.
59. Which of the following shows the structure (结构) of the passage?
A. ①②/③④/⑤⑥⑦ B. ①/②③④/⑤⑥⑦
C. ①/②③④⑤⑥/⑦ D. ①②/③④⑤⑥/⑦
60. Which of the following may the writer agree with?
A. Teenagers shouldn’t depend on their parents.
B. Parents should believe in and respect their children.
C. Family relationships are easy to be improved.
D. Parents shouldn’t make plans for their children.
D
If you’ve ever been on a video call that ends with people shouting or making big arm gestures to get their message across, you’re certainly not alone. Now, a new study shows why these things happen, and gives more ideas about how humans communicate with each other in general.
James Trujillo and his teammates from Radboud University in the Netherlands signed up 20 pairs of volunteers to take part in video calls between separate rooms. In half of the calls, the video and sound quality were made to get worse as the call went on. In the other half, the video and sound got better.
The researchers found that when the video quality first fell, people tried to stay still and stop making gestures. However, as it got worse the number and size of gestures increased. There was also a connection between call quality and speech — people started shouting as the quality fell, and continued to shout and wave their arms even when they could hardly see each other.
Trujillo explained, “What this shows is that speech and gestures are integrated. They work together most of the time. People reduce the bad effect of losing out on visuals (视觉) by using louder speech and bigger gestures.” Previous (以前的) studies have shown that gestures are a small part of human communication compared to speech, but this team says their experiment shows the opposite: people will fall back on gestures at once when sound doesn’t work.
61. James Trujillo did the research by ________.
A. watching videos B. doing experiments
C. making surveys D. making gestures
62. Which picture best shows the changes of gestures as the video quality fell?
(X: the video quality Y: the number and size of gestures)
63. What bad influences do the call and video quality on speech have in common?
A. They stop us from shouting and waving our arms.
B. They help us stay still and stop making gestures.
C. They enlarge the number and size of gestures.
D. They make it hard for us to see each other.
64. What does the underlined word “integrated” in Paragraph 4 mean in Chinese?
A. 分裂 B. 减少 C. 加速 D. 融合
65. What’s the best title for the passage?
A. Call quality explains video bad habits
B. Ways to communicate with each other
C. James Trujillo and his teammates
D. A new study on making gestures

Every year in the USA, there are about 500 tornadoes, which cause natural disasters (灾害) from Texas through Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and into South Dakota. 66 ________
The “tornado season” is usually in spring, but the people in Tornado Alley are always ready for them and they always listen to the news. 67________They find somewhere safe to stay. At home, the best place is the basement — a room that is used to store things under the level of the ground. If there is no basement, a room without windows like the bathroom is also a safe place.
“68________ Only in this way can we get ready and not feel afraid when there’s a tornado,” says Tiffany Taylor, a high school student from Texas. “There’s no basement at my school, so we usually go to the hallways on the lowest floors. Of course, we never sit near the windows.”
After the tornado, people first check to see if it is safe to go out and then they check the buildings and the area for damage (破坏). 69________
In China, we are not so often troubled by tornadoes, but we do have disasters like earthquakes, or an unexpected fire. It is important to know how to keep us safe when a disaster happens. Remember: in order to stay safe in natural disasters, we should get well prepared. 70________
A. At school, we often have practice.
B. And usually there is a lot of damage!
