But what killed Facebook for me was when I posted a photo and five minutes later my son asked me how many “likes” it had got. His question was a wake-up call. “Likes” are signs of acceptance and approval. I had forgotten that acceptance and approval need to come from within and had unknowingly set him a bad example. Before absorbed in Facebook, I spent a lot more time reading books and magazines. I checked in with friends through texts, emails and phone calls. To set a healthier example to my son, I deactivated my Facebook account. I’d been in the habit of checking Facebook many times a day, so I had to come up with some new habits. I carried a novel and a crossword puzzle book around with me. I rediscovered knitting. I went to the gym to take yoga classes. I started to remember a few things. My body is fine just the way it is. I have friends who will help me out when I’m in trouble, and I will help them out. I do my best to be a good mother, and our son is happy and healthy. We are very lucky to be able to afford two vacations a year. I stopped looking at the world through my cellphone. I felt completely present in the moment. The break left me feeling better about myself, my family, my home and my life. After a few weeks, I returned to Facebook. Now I look at the photos of my friends’ kids growing up and treasure how social media allows me to keep in touch with family. I no longer have the desire to post updates often. It is not an addiction any more. 24. What made the author begin to realize she should do something to control her time on Facebook? A. Her poor health. B. Her son’s question. C. Her not receiving “likes”. D. Her mother’s phone call. 25. The underlined word “deactivate” in Paragraph 5 probably means ________. A. to close B. to update C. to keep D. to check 26. What did the author do to change her life? A. She tried to be a good mother. B. She developed some healthy habits. C. She planned two vacations a year. D. She went to the gym as often as she could. 27. What did the author think of her break from Facebook? A. It stopped her getting news. B. It distanced her from her friends. C. It helped her contact with the family. D. It gave her time to find beauty in life. C Farmers often feel they need a lot of sunshine to produce a good crop. But lots of vegetables grow well without much sun. The Rodale Institute in Pennsylvania published a report about this subject some years ago in its magazine Organic Gardening. The report said many different kinds of foods, from blueberries to beans, can be grown in the shade. Some vegetables do need a lot of sun. A vegetable crop expert at the University of Maine advised putting these vegetables where they can get from eight to ten hours of sunlight a day. Tomatoes, melons, squash and peppers are among those that need the most sun. Plants that produce root crops, such as carrots and beets, need from six to eight hours of sunlight every day. But leafy vegetables, such as lettuce and spinach, need only six hours of sunlight a day. The Rodale Institute says a garden should be planned carefully especially if you grow different kinds of foods. For example, rows of vegetables should be planted in an east-west direction. That way, as the sun passes overhead, all the plants will receive an equal amount of light. This is especially important when the plants grow to different heights. Nut trees such as filbert, hazelnut and yellowhorn produce well with only sun in the morning. Some fruits also do well without a lot of sunlight. In the United States, blueberries, raspberries, and several kinds of pears need only a little sun each day. In Asia, the hard y kiwi grows well in the shade. Many herbs grow well without much sun. Mint plants, for example, grow well in the shade. So do sage, dill, oregano, borage, chamomile and several kinds of thyme. Mr Brown, the owner of a garden seed company warned against removing shade trees. He cut down all his shade trees to provide more sun for his crops. But then he had to protect his summer lettuce from the heat of the sun by hanging a piece of cloth to provide shade. Instead of cutting trees, he suggested putting plants that need a lot of sunlight, such as tomatoes, in containers. That way they can be moved as the sun moves. 28. Rows of vegetables should be planted in an east-west direction so that the plants can . A. grow to the same height B. share the same amount of light C. grow well in the shade D. get enough water 29. Which kind of plant should NOT be grown in the shade? A. Blueberries. B. Beans. C. Sage. D. Tomatoes. 30. According to Mr Brown what is a good way to provide more sun for crops in his garden? A. Cutting down all shade trees. B. Hanging a piece of cloth to provide shade. C. Removing the leafy vegetables. D. Putting plants which need a lot of sunlight in containers. 31. What is the text most likely taken from? A. A science magazine. B. A newspaper. C. A government report. D. A story book. D A new study of the elderly has found napping (小睡) too much in daytime may signal an increasing risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital have reported the relationship between the two: napping too much in daytime predicts an increased future risk of Alzheimer’s, and a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s speeds up the increase in napping during aging. “Daytime sleep behavior of older adults is often ignored, and an agreement for napping in clinical practice and health care is still lacking,” said Peng Li, one of the researchers. “Our team calls for a closer attention to 24-hour sleep patterns — not only nighttime sleep but also a nap — for tracking the health of the elderly. The researchers recognized that all previous studies on Alzheimer’s disease assessed napping within a participant only once, and most of them were subjective and questionnaire—based. In the new study, more than 1,000 individuals, with an average age of 81, were provided with Actical, a watch-like device, to wear on their wrist for up to 14 days. After nap episodes were identified, the nap duration and frequency were calculated. The results have suggested that napping too much in daytime may signal an increasing risk of Alzheimer’s, and that faster yearly increase in napping may be a sign of worsening or unfavourable clinical development of the disease. Researchers have acknowledged that although the method of the new study has been widely used in sleep field studies, they recognize that polysomnography (多导睡眠描记) is the gold standard for sleep scoring. Moreover, the participants studied were the elderly, and therefore, the findings may not be easily translated to young people. In addition, future studies should test whether a direct intervention in a nap can lower the risk of Alzheimer’s. “We hope to draw more attention to daytime sleep patterns and the importance of patients noting if their sleep schedule changes over time” said co-senior author Kun Hu of the Medical Biodynamics Program. “Sleep changes are critical in shaping the internal changes in the brain.” 32. What does the new study of the elderly show? A. The link between a nap and Alzheimer’s. B. The causes and symptoms of Alzheimer’s. C. The proper amounts of daytime sleep. D. The ways to improve the quality of sleep. 33. How did the researchers conduct the new study? A. By asking about the participants’ ideas. B. By carrying out a particular questionnaire. C. By tracking participants’ sleep with a device. D. By assessing participants calculating tasks. 34. What can we infer from Paragraph 5? A. The method of the new study is perfect. B. The findings are suitable for all ages. C. Further studies should be carried out. D. Intervention can reduce the risk of Alzheirmer’s. 35. What does Kun Hu talk about? A. The patterns of daytime sleep. B. The way to make sleep schedules. C. The causes of brain changes. D. The significance of the new study. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 Many people’s usual practice when preparing fruit and vegetables is to peel them. ____36____ There are important nutrients in the peel. Fruit and vegetables are rich sources of vitamins, minerals, fiber and many other beneficial plant chemicals, such as substances that protect your cells from harm. ____37____ So could consuming fruit and vegetable peel help with this issue by adding important nutrients to people’s diets? ____38____ For example, plenty of nutritionally important vitamins and minerals are found in the peel of some vegetables: wild carrots, sweet potatoes and white potatoes. And the US Department of Agriculture shows that unpeeled apples contain 15% more vitamin C, 20% more calcium (钙) and 85% more fiber than peeled ones. Given the nutrient content of peel, why do people peel fruit and vegetables? Some must be peeled as the outer parts are not suitable for eating or will cause harm, such as bananas, oranges, melons, pineapples, mangoes and onions. But the peel of apples, potatoes, carrots and cucumbers can be eaten. ____39____ Some people peel fruit and vegetables because they are concerned about pesticides on the surface. But most of the residue (残留物) can be removed by washing. ____40____ Lists of pesticide content of fruit and vegetables are available in some countries — for example, the Pesticide Action Network produces one for the UK. This can help you decide which fruit and vegetables to peel and which peels can be eaten. A. Surely, it’s worth a try. B. It can certainly contribute. C. But often, it’s not necessary. D. However, many people peel them anyway. E. Cooking techniques, such as boiling and steaming, can also reduce it. F. They can help to reduce waste and increase their fruit and vegetable intake. G. He went downstairs in a hurry and started to have his breakfast as quickly as possible. “Why are you in such a hurry, early bird?” Mum asked him. “We will have an English spelling test today, Mum,” Peter said. “Mr. White has promised to offer prizes to those who will get a score of 100. I’ve been studying the word list since last week. Although the words are difficult, I am well prepared for them.” Peter reviewed the spelling of each word once more carefully when Dad drove him to school. At last, it was time for the students to have a test. “Responsibility,” Mr. White started. Peter wrote it on his test paper quickly and confidently. “The second word: contribution,” Mr. White said. “So easy,” Peter thought. He quickly wrote the word down. Thirty words later, the test papers were collected by Mr. White. “I will mark your papers now,” he told the class. After marking the test papers. Mr. White said, “Three of you won a prize today. Peter, David and Marty got full marks on the spelling test!” Mr. White gave the three students each a dictionary. Peter’s was an English-Chinese dictionary — the one he liked best. Peter was so excited that he held it up high when his classmates cheered. “This is my happiest moment” Peter thought. After Mr. White gave the test paper back, Peter had a look at the words, feeling proud of his spelling. All of a sudden, the word “contribusion” confused him. It didn’t seem right. Peter began to compare them after taking out the word list. “C-O-N-T-R-I-B-U-S-I-O-N,” he whispered. He spelled it wrong. “What am I to do? ”Peter said to himself. “If I tell Mr. White one of my spelling words is wrong, I’ll have to give my prize back.” Staring at the full marks written on his test paper, Peter was lost in thought. After a while, he remembered a lesson Mum used to teach him, “We ought to be an honest person.” 注意: 1. 续写词数应150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。 Slowly, Peter raised his hand. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The class burst into applause. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 达旗一中2024-2025秋季学期高二年级第三次学情诊断 英语 总分:150分;考试时间:120分钟 注意事项: 1. Where are the speakers going this evening? Here are some of the most beautiful views in Australia. Mindil Beach, Darwin Some of the most impressive Australian sunsets can be witnessed from Mindil Beach as the sun dips below the Arafura Sea. Beautiful colors of pink, orange, blue and purple paint the sky each night. From April to October, you can enjoy the festive nightlife of the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Markets which celebrate the wonderful view each night. Sydney Harbor, Sydney It’s a view known as one of the most popular shots of Australia. The famous Sydney Harbor can be best experienced from a bird’s eye view, one you can experience yourself if you have the nerve to climb 143 meters above sea level to the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge. It will be an amazing view that you’ll remember for a lifetime. Cape Byron Lighthouse, Byron Bay The Cape Byron Lighthouse is the most easterly point in the entire country. Each year more than 500, 000 people visit the lighthouse which rises up above Byron Bay offering striking views of the bay, the beach and even an opportunity for whale watching when the season is right. Whitehaven Beach, Whitsundays For many, the typical Australian image is of a beautiful beach with soft sand and blue waters all around. The 7-kilometer area of sand known as Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island is about as beautiful of a beach view as one can get anywhere in the country. The beach is known for its powder white sand. The sand also doesn’t keep heat meaning that walking barefoot on the beach is comfortable even at the hottest points of the day. Whitehaven can only be accessed by boat, making this a picture worthy of any postcard. 21. What can you enjoy at Mindil Beach? A. Beautiful sunrises. B. The festive nightlife. C. A famous lighthouse. D. Colorful architecture. 22. Which place can offer you a chance to see whales? A. Mindil Beach. B. The Sydney Harbor Bridge. C. Whitehaven Beach. D. The Cape Byron Lighthouse. 23. But what killed Facebook for me was when I posted a photo, and five minutes later my son asked me how many “likes” it had got. 【答案】24. B 25. A 26. B 27. Instead of cutting trees he suggested putting plants that need a lot of sunlight, such as tomatoes, in containers. 【答案】28. B 29. D 30. D 31. (西红柿、甜瓜、南瓜和辣椒是最需要阳光的食物的一部分)”可知,西红柿是最需要阳光的食物之一。由此可知,西红柿不应该在阴凉处生长。故选D项。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Instead of cutting trees, he suggested putting plants that need a lot of sunlight, such as tomatoes, in containers. That way they can be moved as the sun moves. (他建议把需要大量阳光的植物,如西红柿,放在容器里,而不是砍伐树木。这样它们就可以随着太阳的移动而移动)”可知,布朗先生认为——为花园里的作物提供更多阳光的好方法是将需要大量阳光的植物放入容器中。故选D项。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,结合第一段内容“Farmers often feel they need a lot of sunshine to produce a good crop. But lots of vegetables grow well without much sun. (农民们经常觉得他们需要大量的阳光才能长出好庄稼。但是很多蔬菜在没有太多阳光的情况下长得很好)”可知,本文主要介绍了一些农业科学知识。由此推知,本文最有可能出自一本科学杂志。故选A项。 D A new study of the elderly has found napping (小睡) too much in daytime may signal an increasing risk of Alzheimer’s disease. “We hope to draw more attention to daytime sleep patterns and the importance of patients noting if their sleep schedule changes over time,” said co-senior author Kun Hu of the Medical Biodynamics Program. 【答案】32 A 33. C 34. C 35. “This is my happiest moment,” Peter thought. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Slowly, Peter raised his hand. “Mr. White, I didn’t get full marks on the test. I made a mistake.” He stood up and handed his teacher the dictionary he liked best and his test paper, “I spelled contribution with s-i instead of t-i.” Peter could feel his classmates looking at him with surprise as he walked back to his desk. Mr. White held up Peter’s test paper. “Class,” he said, “Peter did something ever more important than spelling every word correctly on a test.” Mr. White smiled at Peter, “He taught us all a lesson on being honest.” The class burst into applause. They stared at him with respect. At that moment, Mr. White said. “Peter, I want you to have this dictionary because you set a good example for all of us. You did very well in the test by being an honest person”. Peter took the dictionary from his teacher and expressed his thanks to Mr. White. Meanwhile, he couldn’t wait to show it to Mum and tell her one of his best days ever. 词汇激活: 行为类: ①站起来:stand up/rise to one’s feet ②递:hand/give/pass ③感受到:feel/sense ④盯着:stare at/gaze at 情绪类: ①惊讶:surprise/astonishment ②尊重:respect/admiration ③诚实的:honest/truthful 【点睛】[高分句型1] Peter could feel his classmates looking at him with surprise as he walked back to his desk.
