Nancy: Hi, Dino. Some of my classmates always hit me with their schoolbags. It hurts! I feel very angry but don’t know what to do.
Dino: Hi, Nancy. I’m sorry to hear that. This is bullying (欺凌)! You need to stand up and say “no” to it.
Bullying is a big problem at school. Over 200 million students in the world are bullied each year. Hurting a person’s body is the most common kind of bullying, such as hitting or kicking. Saying or writing bad things is also bullying, including teasing (嘲笑) others or giving people terrible nicknames (外号). Some bullying hurts people’s relationships. For example, some children may tell other children not to be friends with someone. Being bullied may make you feel sick and do badly at school.
But do you know? A bully (欺凌者) is always a coward (胆小鬼). The bullies look strong but they are weak inside. You just need to have more confidence and hold your head up high!
If you are bullied, you should...
Report it. Talk to your parents or teachers about it. They love you and they have the ability to help you. Trust them.
Don’t bully back. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Try not to show anger or tears. Just tell the bully to stop bullying you or walk away.
Try not to be alone. Go to the bathroom with your friends. Have lunch in a group. It’s safer to stay with others.
Ask for help. Ask your friends to stand up for you. If your friends are bullied, you should also stand up for them.
Feel good about yourself. People may bully others for many reasons or no reason at all. But it’s not your fault anyway! It’s the bullies who should feel ashamed (羞愧的).
29.What’s a big problem at school?
A.Bullying. B.Leaving someone out.

①When you go to the park, you might notice many older people listening to audiobooks (有声书) instead of reading paper books. Audiobooks have become quite popular these days. Why are more and more people choosing audiobooks over traditional books? Is listening to an audiobook just as good as reading a book?
②Reading needs us to focus (集中) all our attention on the words in a book, and we also need to find time and a place to sit down and read, However, you can listen to audiobooks anytime and anywhere you like, and it gives your eyes a break, too. That’s why people like audiobooks better.
③But the big question is, do we get knowledge from audiobooks as effectively as we do from paper books? Scientists did an experiment to find the answer. Volunteers in Group One were asked to listen to an audiobook while volunteers in Group Two read a book of the same content (内容). The result showed that the volunteers remember the same amount (量) of information, whether they listened to it or read it.
④Another study published in the Journal of Neuroscience further supported the result above. In the study, researchers scanned (扫描) people’s brains when they listened to and read books. The result showed that listening to audiobooks activates (激活) almost the same parts of the brain as reading does.
⑤However, some people still believe that they lean better from reading paper books. One reason might be that when we listen to audiobooks, we are often multitasking (处理多个任务). “If you’re trying to learn while doing two things, you’re not going to learn as well,” Daniel Willingham, a professor of psychology at the University of Virginia, told The New York Times.
32.What do we know about the study published in the Journal of Neuroscience?
A.People learn better from reading paper books.
B.People need to read and listen to books at the same time.
C.People get as much information from audiobooks as from paper books.
D.Listening to audiobooks activates different parts of the brain from reading does.
33.What does the underlined word “effectively” mean in Paragraph 3?
A.有效地 B.同样地 C.清晰地 D.快速地
34.Why do some people believe they learn better from reading paper books?
A.Because paper books are more interesting.
B.Because they can listen to audiobooks later.
C.Because they can focus better on paper books.
D.Because they can do other tasks at the same time.
35.Which shows the best structure of the passage? (1=Paragraph 1, 2=Paragraph 2…)
A. B. C. D.
D

It is reported that Pakistan has 25 million children who do not go to school. That is the second highest number in the world. Only Nigeria(尼日利亚) has more. Many Pakistani children must work to support their families.

He said, “When my father died, everyone who came to the funeral(葬礼) said they were sorry, but no one helped.” He sold newspapers and did other work to earn enough money to pay school fees for his brothers and sisters.
Ayub wanted to help the young boy who washed cars, but he did not have enough money to pay the boy’s school fees. _______.
Today, Ayub teaches many children at his school in a public park. Some of the children attend other schools in the morning, but come to Ayub in the afternoon to get help with their homework.
Ayub has helped a large number of poor children since(自从) he began teaching. Many of them come from very poor areas near the park.
Ayub said, “I used to argue with kids who worked ‘Why are you washing someone’s dishes or their clothes? Why don’t you study?’”
One of the children he advised to attend classes was Farhat Abbas. Ayub found him working with his friends about 12 years ago. “He followed us back home. He told our parents he wanted to teach us and asked them to send us to his school,” Abbas said.
Today, Abbas is taking classes at a college and is helping Ayub.
Many children are out of school, and those who do attend classes often get a poor education. Information collected by an organization shows half of all Pakistani children in the 5th grade do not understand basic(基础的)mathematics and cannot read a story in their language.

Mermaid (美人鱼) shows are becoming more and more popular in our country these days. But have you ever heard about “male mermaids”? Zhao Xin from Taiyuan, Shanxi Province is one of the few male mermaid performers (表演者).
Zhao became a mermaid performer in the summer of 2017 when he saw an ad looking for mermaid performers for a newly opened aquarium (水族馆). Zhao was a good swimmer and he decided to have a try. However, being a mermaid performer was not easy. He needed to learn to swim in a mermaid dress. So he started watching videos of mermaid shows on the Internet.
After months of hard training (训练), Zhao could give a good show by himself. But some parents pointed out that watching Zhao’s shows was bad for their kids, because “men shouldn’t wear dresses” In the next few years, Zhao trained even harder and mixed his mermaid shows with Shanxi culture, including Shanxi wine culture, waist drums and lion dances. Hard work pays off. Now Zhao is head of a male mermaid team and he has won lots of mermaid competitions these years.
The good news is that male mermaids like Zhao are changing people’s minds. After a show by Zhao’s team in Shanghai in May of the classic story of Shan Hai Jing, one of the audience (观众) members said, “Male mermaids are more powerful. I think this kind of show is important for children to watch.”
