When her daughter got married in 2009, Anne Reeder searched everywhere for the right hat. “I needed one to match my dress, but there were hardly any suitable hats for me,” she says. “I had to go for a straw one at last and probably looked a bit silly.”
That led to an idea Reeder only began to pursue three years later, at 65. Deciding to become a consultant after four decades as an occupational therapist (治疗师), Reeder attended weekend classes to learn millinery the art of hat making. “I’ve always loved drawing and sewing and I could always do with more hats to round off my clothes,” she says. “Millinery seemed like the perfect combination of my interests.”
The experience of making something reminded Reeder of her early passion. When she was young, she wanted to go to art school. However, Reeder’s desire clashed with her father’s vision for her career. Her father wanted her to have a career that could support herself. He didn’t think an art school education was suitable. “Making hats decades later released that creativity and allowed me to start again,” Reeder says.
Once retired in 2014, Reeder signed up for an intensive hat-making BTEC qualification at Kensington and Chelsea College. Once a week, she would travel to London and begin the complicated process of making hand-crafted pieces. “We learned everything from finding inspiration to drawing and making 3D models on paper. I can lose myself in it, put the radio on and get going,” she says.

(这让里德在三年后,也就是65岁的时候才开始追求这个想法。)”可知,婚礼上需要一顶帽子激励里德从事女帽业。故选B。
【42题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中““I’ve always loved drawing and sewing and I could always do with more hats to round off my clothes,” she says. “Millinery seemed like the perfect combination of my interests.”(她说:‘我一直喜欢画画和缝纫,我总是想要更多的帽子来装饰我的衣服。女帽似乎是我兴趣的完美结合。’”)”以及第三段中“The experience of making something reminded Reeder of her early passion. When she was young, she wanted to go to art school.(制作东西的经历让里德想起了她早年的激情。当她年轻的时候,她想去艺术学校)”和““Making hats decades later released that creativity and allowed me to start again,” Reeder says.(‘几十年后制作帽子释放了我的创造力,让我重新开始,’里德说)”可知,对艺术的巨大热情让里德成为一名优秀的帽匠。故选C。
【43题详解】

C
Red wine is commonly seen on various occasions. Many people have an overly optimistic attitude towards the drink and are surprised when coming up against the facts about it on a nutrition label, according to our recent study.
Right now, people usually think of red wine as a “virtue” rather than a “vice”, due to popular belief about its. anti-cancer and anti-aging impacts. But requiring nutrition labels, which are currently voluntary, could change those viewpoints.
In our experimental research, which included nearly 800 participants, we found American consumers aren’t used to seeing nutrition information on wine labels, and that most are surprised by what they read since they don’t associate wine with calories, carbohydrates (碳水化合物) and sugar. People who were exposed to labels viewed wine as less healthy than they did beforehand, and they were less likely to buy it.We also found that people are more surprised by the sugar content of sweeter wines, such as Moscato, than by the number of calories. Sweet wines,in particular, may contain more sugar than consumers realize.
Nutrition labels don’t need to be bad news for the wine industry. Wine sales have recently declined among those aged 60 and younger, but greater transparency (透明度) in labeling could help regenerate young consumers’ interest. Millennial (born from 1981 to 1996) and Gen Z (born from 1997 to 2012) consumers may especially appreciate the transparency, since it could help them view wine as less mysterious and more accessible. It may also allow them to fit an occasional glass of wine to their personal health goals.
What’s more, there’s been a recent trend toward wine packaging including labels like “organic”, “biodynamic”, and “sustainable which may appeal to consumers” preferences for sustainability. These labels have less to do with nutrition than with producers trying to demonstrate their green practices — makers of natural wine would likely benefit most from offering nutrition information to support their front-of-label claims.
But there’s still more to learn about how nutrition labels affect behavior. Studies have shown mixed results; labeling appears to make people cut their calorie consumption somewhat. Still the U.S. put nutrition labels on foods in the 1990s, and that hasn’t stopped the obesity rate from rising.
46. Which of the following best shows people’s general view about red wine?
A. It is double-edged. B. It is a primary social drink.
C. It is beneficial to human health. D. It has transparent nutrition information.
47. Based on the research, nutrition information on wine has the potential to ______.
A. affect consumers’ purchasing choices
B. increase consumers’ curiosity about the wine industry
C. persuade consumers into trying different brands of wine
D. mislead consumers into regarding wine as an energy source
48. What might be 30-to-40-year-olds’ attitude towards wine labeling?
A. Unclear. B. Supportive. C. Opposed. D. Indifferent.
49. How may the recent trend benefit winemakers?
A. By reducing the production costs of wine.
B. By strengthening their environmentally-friendly brand image.
C. By appealing to more nutrition-minded consumers.
D. By increasing the transparency of wine production.
50. Why does the author mention the US nutrition labels in the last paragraph?
A. To give an example of changes in food labels.
B. To illustrate the serious obesity problem in America.
C. To show the link between nutrition labels and food sales.
D. To present nutrition labels’ failure to address health issues.
【答案】46. C 47. A 48. B 49. C 50. D

These labels have less to do with nutrition than with producers trying to demonstrate their green practices — makers of natural wine would likely benefit most from offering nutrition information to support their front-of-label claims.(此外,最近葡萄酒包装上出现了“有机”、“生物动力法”和“可持续”等标签的趋势,这可能吸引消费者对于可持续性的偏好。
根据文章最后一段“But there’s still more to learn about how nutrition labels affect behavior. Studies have shown mixed results; labeling appears to make people cut their calorie consumption somewhat. Still the U.S. put nutrition labels on foods in the 1990s, and that hasn’t stopped the obesity rate from rising. (但是,关于营养标签如何影响行为,我们仍有更多需要了解的地方。研究表明结果喜忧参半;标签似乎能让人们减少一些卡路里的摄入。然而,美国在20世纪90年代就在食品上添加了营养标签,但这并没有阻止肥胖率的上升。)”可知,作者在最后一段提到美国的营养标签,并指出尽管在食品上添加了这些标签,但肥胖率仍在上升。这暗示了营养标签可能并没有像预期那样有效地解决健康问题。故选D。

The alarm goes off! It’s time to begin a day: eat the same breakfast, take the same journey to work, see the same people, and, at the end of the day,go to bed at the same time. Slowly but surely, your entire life becomes routine, and the world outside of this gray boredom fades to nothing. You close yourself off to the world.
This is what existentialist (存在主义者) Gabriel Marcel called “crispation”. For Marcel, crispation is when everything gets stuck in habits and routines. It’s the state of mind that says, “But…I’ve always done it this way” when one is presented with a new opportunity. Crispation is what says no to the call to adventure;people tend to become trapped within a “shell” that gradually hardens and restricts them.
In some ways, we live in an age when we focus too much on habits. James Clear’s Atomic Habits has sold over 15 million copies worldwide, and there are articles and videos titled “How to Build Successful Habits.” Normally, our brains need certain habitual inspiration to function and often the most successful people are those who form strong habits. But there’s also a shadow side to habits. If we shift our view, we’ll find habits look like ruts (刻板乏味的生活) and routines become crispation.
Too many of us are doing more of the same thing we like a lot instead of trying new things. This is especially true in middle age. People in midlife have the lowest subjective happiness ratings for all age groups because; mostly, people establish a family and live in one place. In terms of their jobs, they have kind of reached the peak or are close to it, and they are kind of just maintaining the present situation rather than developing.
The dissatisfied tiredness of non-improvement is often fueled by our habits and routines. So consider finding ways to open ourselves to new experiences and, connections by challenging the comfort of our daily patterns. We should seek opportunities to explore. Embracing change is not just an escape from boredom, but a step toward living a life full of purpose and joy.
51. How does the author introduce the topic?
A. By defining a concept. B. By making a comparison.
C. By providing an example. D. By proposing a question.
52. What do people experiencing “crispation” tend to do?
A. Value chances to adventure. B. Limit themselves in a circle.
C. Enjoy socializing with others. D. Learn new things much slower.
53. What does the author want to show through the widespread popularity of Clear’s book?
A. People’s similar reading habits.
B. People’s eagerness to get out of a rut.
C. People’s shifting interest in printed books.
D. People’s strong emphasis on developing habits.
54. What is the feature of the middle-aged according to the text?
A. They are unwilling to accept change.
B. They are proud of their achievements.
C. They hope to make a breakthrough in their careers.
D. They strike a good balance between work and life.
55. What is the author’s purpose in writing the last paragraph?
A. To highlight the downside of habits.
B. To urge us to jump out of our daily routines.
C. To encourage the adoption of positive habits.
D. To stress the significance of having purpose in life.
【答案】51. C 52. B 53. D 54. A 55. B

【55题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“The dissatisfied tiredness of non-improvement is often fueled by our habits and routines. So consider finding ways to open ourselves to new experiences and, connections by challenging the comfort of our daily patterns. We should seek opportunities to explore. Embracing change is not just an escape from boredom, but a step toward living a life full of purpose and joy.(对缺乏进步的厌倦感往往是由我们的习惯和常规所激发的。
We would all love to learn how to be happy. And sometimes, the solution comes from a surprising place.
During his fieldwork in a remote African village, an anthropologist (人类学家) had devoted himself to studying the unique habits and culture of the local tribe. He had been working in the village for quite some time and on the day before his scheduled return home, he composed a gift—a basket full of delightful fruits from the area, wrapped thoughtfully in a piece of cloth. He placed this offering beneath a tree and then gathered the village children around.
The man drew a line in the dirt, looked at the children, and said, “As soon as I signal to start, dash to the tree; the first to arrive will claim the basket of fruits.” However, when he signaled, instead of racing against each other, the children joined hands and ran together to the tree. Then They settled around the basket and enjoyed their treat as a group.
Bewildered by their act of unity, the anthropologist asked why they chose to run collectively when any one of them could have seized all the fruits. A young girl looked up at him and said innocently, “How can one of us be happy if all the other ones are sad?”
Years later, Desmond Tutu, the well -known South African activist, remembered how a girl once thought about things in a simple yet deep way. He used the word “ubuntu” to describe her thinking. “Ubuntu” means “I exist because we all do.” In other words, we are who we are because of our relationships with others. For that tribe, to be human is to relate with and through others. They think that our happiness comes from the union of our joys and the meaningful impact they have on the community.

Reeder, 77, now has a hat-making workshop in her home. “It has really refreshed my interest in fashion and fabric,” she says. “I went to India a few years ago and bought lots of offcuts to make headbands, and I also recycle old dresses into hats. I’m thinking of making a whole collection out of secondhand fabrics next.” She is still eager to learn new techniques. “I’ll keep going as long as I can, since people always need something interesting to wear.”

D
B They are proud of their achievements.

阅读下列短文并回答问题。
We would all love to learn how to be happy. And sometimes, the solution comes from a surprising place.
During his fieldwork in a remote African village an anthropologist (人类学家) had devoted himself to studying the unique habits and culture of the local tribe.
