Natchez Trace Parkway (Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee) Covering 444 miles between the Mississippi River and Nashville, Natchez Trace Parkway has some of the prettiest scenery in the entire South. The fall season also brings special events along the parkway like the Natchez Balloon Festival (October 18-19) and Dancing With The King (October 18-20) in Tupelo, Mississippi. Capitol Reef National Park (Utah) Fall is a harvest season at Capitol Reef National Park —a picture-perfect setting for picnicking with peaches, pears and apples. For a small fee, visitors can self-pick the peaches, pears and apples with ladders and fruit-picking poles provided by the Park Service. Afterward, they can enjoy the fruits of their labor at the nearby picnic area and campground. White Sands National Park (New Mexico) Cooler temperatures are just one of the reasons to visit White Sands in the fall. Another reason to visit in the fall is impressive full moons that brighten the unearthly landscapes of this New Mexico desert park. White Sands celebrates the autumn supermoons with ranger-led Full Moon Hikes (September 18 and October 16) and Full Moon Nights that feature/ live outdoor music, specifically a jazz band on September 17 as well as Native American musician and storyteller Randy Granger on October 17. Joshua Tree National Park (California) It’s hard to avoid crowds at Joshua Tree National Park, but you might have a chance if you visit during a weekday in October or November. By October, the average daytime temperature has dropped, perfect for hiking, biking, horseback riding the 36.5-mile California Riding & Hiking Trail that runs east-west across the park. 1. When does the Natchez Balloon Festival start? A. On October 16. B. On October 17. C. On October 18. D. On October 19. 2. What can visitors do at Capitol Reef National Park? A. Pick fruits. B. Enjoy band performances. C. Meet Randy Granger. D. Attend Dancing With The King. 3. Which park offers activities related to full moons? A. Natchez Trace Parkway. B. White Sands National Park. C. Capitol Reef National Park. D. Joshua Tree National Park. C 2. A 3. 根据Natchez Trace Parkway (Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee)部分“The fall season also brings special events along the parkway like the Natchez Balloon Festival (October 18—19) and Dancing With The King (October 18—20) in Tupelo, Mississippi.(秋天还会在公园大道上举办特别活动,比如纳奇兹气球节(10月18日至19日)和密西西比州图珀洛的“与国王共舞”(10月18日至20日)。)” 根据Capitol Reef National Park (Utah)部分“For a small fee, visitors can self-pick the peaches, pears and apples with ladders and fruit-picking poles provided by the Park Service. (游客可以用公园管理局提供的梯子和水果采摘杆自行采摘桃子、梨和苹果,只需支付一小笔费用。)”可知,游客可以在圆顶礁国家公园采摘水果。故选A。 根据White Sands National Park (New Mexico)部分“White Sands celebrates the autumn supermoons with ranger-led Full Moon Hikes (September 18 and October 16) and Full Moon Nights that feature live outdoor music, specifically a jazz band on September 17 as well as Native American musician and storyteller Randy Granger on October 17. (白沙为庆祝秋季超级月亮,举办了护林员带领满月远足(9月18日和10月16日)和满月之夜,其中包括现场户外音乐,特别是9月17日的爵士乐队和10月17日的印第安音乐家和讲故事的人兰迪格兰杰。)”可知,白沙国家公园提供与满月有关的活动。故选B。 B The rolled-up painting of a female figure was discovered in a pile of rubbish that a junk dealer was hired to throw away in the early 1960s, and it hung in the family living room and then restaurant in Pompei, near Naples, for years until his son decided to investigate. The junk dealer’s son Andrea Lo Russo said that his first inkling of the painting’s origin came when he saw a Picasso in a middle school textbook, but neither his teacher nor his father was persuaded. His curiosity continued, and in his early 20s, Lo Russo drove to Paris and brought the painting to the Picasso Museum. “They looked, and they said, ‘It is not possible,’” Lo Russo recalled. He turned down their invitation to leave the painting for further examination, not wanting to give it up. After decades of trying to determine the painting’s origin, Lo Russo believed that a recent battery of tests carried out by the Swiss-based Arcadia Foundation finally offered proof that it’s the work of Picasso. “We include lab tests that show the paints used are consistent with Picasso’s color palette during the period,” said Luca Marcante, a trained chemist who founded the Arcadia Foundation in 2000 to investigate the origin of artworks. “Most recently, a handwriting expert authenticated (证实) the signature on the upper left-hand corner as that of Picasso.” The only group that can authenticate the painting is the Picasso Administration in Paris. It hasn’t responded to a series of requests over the years. Marcante said that he was preparing to share the most recent findings with them. “The only real one is Lo Russo’s because we have examined it in a scientific manner. We are completely sure about our work, and about the results science has given us,” Marcante said. “We can touch this painting with our hands. It is real. It is authentic.” 4 What does the underlined word “inkling” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Thought. B. Decision. C. Lesson. D. Report. 5. Why did Lo Russo drive to the Picasso Museum? A. To do some tests on his own. B. To pick up his father working there. C. To seek confirmation on a painting. D. To enjoy Picasso’s paintings. 6. What can be learned from Marcante’s words in the last paragraph? A. He avoided touching the painting. B. He was confident of his judgement. C. He was a famous handwriting expert. D. He worked for the Picasso Administration. 7. Which word can best describe Lo Russo? A. Kind-hearted. B. Open-minded. C. Generous. D. Determined. A 5. C 6. B 7. 根据划线词所在句中“his first inkling of the painting’s origin came when he saw a Picasso in a middle school textbookwhen he saw a Picasso in a middle school textbook, but neither his teacher nor his father was persuaded (当他在中学课本上看到毕加索的画时,首次对这幅画的来源有了inkling,但他的老师和父亲都没有被说服)”和下一段首句“His curiosity continued, and in his early 20s, Lo Russo drove to Paris and brought the painting to the Picasso Museum. (他的好奇心一直在继续,在他20岁出头的时候,Lo Russo开车去了巴黎,把这幅画带到了毕加索博物馆)”可推知,Lo Russo应该在中学课本上看到毕加索的画时,对这幅画的来源产生了模糊的想法,认为它是毕加索的画,想去验证真假。划线词inkling意思应该与Thought“想法”一致。故选A项。 根据第三段中“His curiosity continued, and in his early 20s, Lo Russo drove to Paris and brought the painting to the Picasso Museum. (他的好奇心一直在继续,在他20岁出头的时候,Lo Russo开车去了巴黎,把这幅画带到了毕加索博物馆)”和第四段中“After decades of trying to determine the painting’s origin, Lo Russo believed that a recent battery of tests carried out by the Swiss-based Arcadia Foundation finally offered proof that it’s the work of Picasso. (在试图确定这幅画的来源数十年后,Lo Russo认为,瑞士的Arcadia基金会最近进行的一系列测试最终证明这是毕加索的作品)”可知,Lo Russo开车去毕加索博物馆是为了求对一幅画进行确认。故选C项。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中““The only real one is Lo Russo’s because we have examined it in a scientific manner. We are completely sure about our work, and about the results science has given us,” Marcante said. “We can touch this painting with our hands. It is real. It is authentic.”(‘唯一真实的是卢索的,因为我们已经用科学的方法检验过了。我们完全相信我们的工作,以及科学给我们的结果’Marcante说:‘我们可以用手触摸这幅画。它是真实的。它是真实的。’”)可推知,Marcante对他的判断很有信心。故选B项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“His curiosity continued, and in his early 20s, Lo Russo drove to Paris and brought the painting to the Picasso Museum... He turned down their invitation to leave the painting for further examination, not wanting to give it up. (他的好奇心一直在继续,在他20岁出头的时候,卢索开车去了巴黎,把这幅画带到了毕加索博物馆……他拒绝了他们让他把这幅画留给进一步研究的邀请,不想放弃它)”和第四段中“After decades of trying to determine the painting’s origin, Lo Russo believed that a recent battery of tests carried out by the Swiss-based Arcadia Foundation finally offered proof that it’s the work of Picasso. (在试图确定这幅画的来源数十年后,Lo Russo认为,瑞士的Arcadia基金会最近进行的一系列测试最终证明这是毕加索的作品)”可知,虽然遇到挫折,但Lo Russo一直没有放弃验证这幅画的真假,并坚信这幅画是毕加索的作品。由此可知,他是一个坚定的人。故选D项。 C Around the US, educators say students in class routinely send messages, listen to music and shop online. There are also countless other examples of how smartphones disturb teaching and learning. “Students used to have an understanding that they weren't supposed to be on their phone in class. Those days are gone,” said James Granger, a high school teacher. The impact that phones have on teenagers in America today is well-documented, but teachers say parents are often not aware to what extent students use them inside the classroom. And increasingly, educators and experts are speaking with one voice on the question of how to handle it: No phones during classes. Last year, Florida became the first state to crack down on phones in school. A law that took effect in July required all Florida public schools to ban (禁止) student cellphone use during class time and block access to social media on district Wi-Fi. Some districts, including Orange County Public Schools, went further and banned phones the entire school day. Oklahoma, Vermont and Kansas have also recently introduced what is becoming known as the “phone-free schools” policy. Some students say such policies cut off their main mode of communication with family and friends. Pushback has also come from parents who fear being cut off from their kids if there is a school emergency. Jaden Willoughey, 14, shares the concern about being out of contact with his parents if there’s a crisis. “It took a few years to change the cellphone policy and find a system that worked,” said Jared Christensen, the school’s vice principal. “At first it was a battle. But it has been so worth it. Students are more attentive and engaged during class time. Teachers are able to teach without competing with cellphones. And student learning has increased,” he said, citing test scores that were at or above state averages for the first time in years. “I can’t definitively say it’s because of this policy. But I know it’s helping.” 8. What can we learn from paragraph 1? A. The functions of smartphones are increasing. B. Most of the Americans choose to shop online. C. Listening to music is good for students’ mental health. D. More and more US students are using phones in class. 9. Florida was the first state in America to ________. A. introduce a course on social media B. provide smartphones for poor kids C. push for a cellphone ban in school D. allow students to use computers at school 10. What is Jaden Willoughey’s attitude to the “phone-free schools” policy? A. Positive. B. Doubtful. C. Unconcerned. D. Unclear. 11. Which statement will Jared Christensen probably agree with? A. There is competition among teachers. B. It is worthwhile to battle for freedom. C. His students have made little progress. D. The new cellphone policy is beneficial. D 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第一段“Around the US, educators say students in class routinely send messages, listen to music and shop online. There are also countless other examples of how smartphones disturb teaching and learning. "Students used to have an understanding that they weren't supposed to be on their phone in class. Those days are gone," said James Granger, a high school teacher.(在美国各地,教育工作者表示,学生们在课堂上经常发信息、听音乐和网上购物。智能手机干扰教学的例子也数不胜数。“学生们过去认为,他们不应该在课堂上玩手机。那些日子已经一去不复返了,”高中教师詹姆斯·格兰杰(James Granger)说。)”可推断,在美国,越来越多的学生在课堂上玩手机。故选D。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Last year, Florida became the first state to crack down on phones in school. A law that took effect in July required all Florida public schools to ban (禁止) student cellphone use during class time and block access to social media on district Wi-Fi.(去年,佛罗里达州成为第一个在学校禁止使用手机的州。今年7月生效的一项法律要求佛罗里达州所有公立学校禁止学生在上课时间使用手机,并在学区Wi-Fi上屏蔽社交媒体。)”可知,佛罗里达州是美国第一个在学校推行手机禁令的州。故选C。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“Jaden Willoughey, 14, shares the concern about being out of contact with his parents if there's a crisis.( 14岁的杰登·威洛希也担心,如果发生危机,他会和父母失去联系。)” 根据最后一段Jared Christensen说的话“But it has been so worth it. Students are more attentive and engaged during class time. Teachers are able to teach without competing with cellphones. And student learning has increased," he said, citing test scores that were at or above state averages for the first time in years.(但这是非常值得的。学生们在课堂上更加专注和投入。教师可以在不与手机竞争的情况下进行教学。学生的学习能力也提高了,”他说,并引用了多年来第一次达到或超过州平均水平的考试成绩。)”可推断,Jared Christensen 认为新的手机政策是有益处的。故选D。 D Imagine a customer-service center that speaks your language, no matter what it is. Alorica, a company in Irvine, California, which runs customer-service centers around the world, has introduced an artificial intelligence (AI) translation tool that lets its workers talk with customers who speak 200 different languages and 75 dialects. So an Alorica worker who speaks, say, only Spanish can deal with a complaint about an incorrect bank statement from a Cantonese speaker in Hong Kong. And it wouldn’t need to hire an employee who speaks Cantonese. However, Alorica isn’t cutting jobs. It will increasingly hire those who are comfortable with new technology. Potentially, the threat: Perhaps companies won’t need as many employees — and will cut some jobs — if chatbots can handle the workload instead. Consider Suumit Shah, an Indian businessman who caused an uproar last year by saying that he had replaced 90% of his customer support staff with a chatbot named Lina. The move at Shah’s company, Dukaan, which helps customers set up e-commerce sites, reduced the response time to an inquiry from 1 minute, 44 seconds to “instant”. It also cut the typical time needed to solve problems from more than two hours to just over three minutes. Similarly, researchers at Harvard Business School found in a study last year that job postings for writers, coders and artists decreased greatly within eight months of the arrival of ChatGPT. But being exposed to AI doesn’t necessarily mean losing your job to it. The Swedish furniture retailer IKEA, for example, introduced a customer-service chatbot in 2021 to handle simple inquiries. Instead of cutting jobs, IKEA retrained 8,500 customer-service workers to handle such tasks as advising customers on interior design and fielding complex customer calls. The experience at Alorica and IKEA suggests that AI may not prove to be the job killer that many people fear. Instead, the technology might turn out to be more like breakthroughs of the past—the steam engine, electricity and the Internet, which get rid of some jobs while creating others and probably make workers more productive in general to the eventual benefit of workers themselves, their employers and the economy. 12. What does the author want to tell us by the example in paragraph 1? A. The power of AI. B. The threat from humans. C. The customer requirements. D. The tips on language learning. 13. What advantage does Lina have over other staff? A. Winning the trust of customers. B. Responding to customers faster. C. Selling more products to customers. D. Having a great relationship with Shah. 14. What were IKEA’s customer-service workers asked to do in 2021? A. Take on other duties. B. Leave their company. C. Move to HongKong. D. Develop latest chatbots. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. How Will AI Change Our Lives? B. How Should We Use AI Effectively? C. Will AI Take Away Many Human Jobs? D. What Is the Future of Traditional Companies? 【答案】12. A 13. B 14. A 15. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇议论文。文章主要通过实例介绍了人工智能可能不会抢走人类的很多工作。 【12题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段关键句“Alorica, a company in Irvine, California, which runs customer-service centers around the world, has introduced an artificial intelligence (AI) translation tool that lets its workers talk with customers who speak 200 different languages and 75 dialects. (Alorica是一家位于加利福尼亚州尔湾的公司,在世界各地设有客户服务中心,该公司推出了一种人工智能(AI)翻译工具,可以让员工与说200种不同语言和75种方言的客户交谈)”可知,这种人工智能翻译工具有强大的力量,可以让员工与说200种不同语言和75种方言的客户交谈,并列举了下文与香港客户交谈的例子。由此推知,作者想通过第一段中的例子告诉我们人工智能的力量。故选A项。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段关键句“Consider Suumit Shah, an Indian businessman who caused an uproar last year by saying that he had replaced 90% of his customer support staff with a chatbot named Lina. The move at Shah’s company, Dukaan, which helps customers set up e-commerce sites, reduced the response time to an inquiry from 1 minute, 44 seconds to “instant”. 根据第五段关键句“Instead of cutting jobs, IKEA retrained 8,500 customer-service workers to handle such tasks as advising customers on interior design and fielding complex customer calls. (宜家没有裁员,而是对8500名客户服务人员进行了再培训,以处理室内设计咨询和接听复杂客户电话等任务)”可知,宜家要求原来的客户服务人员处理室内设计咨询和接听复杂客户电话等任务。由此可知,2021年,宜家的客服人员被要求承担其他职责。故选A项。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,结合最后一段关键句“The experience at Alorica and IKEA suggests that AI may not prove to be the job killer that many people fear. (Alorica和宜家的经验表明,人工智能可能不会成为许多人担心的就业杀手)”可知,文章通过不同公司的例子告诉我们,人工智能不会成为人类的就业杀手。由此可知,“Will AI Take Away Many Human Jobs?(人工智能会夺走许多人类工作吗?)”能够概括文章主题。故选C项。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Characteristics of an excellent scientist The dictionary defines a scientist as a person having professional knowledge on one or more sciences, especially natural science or physical science.____16____ Let’s look at some characteristics of an excellent scientist. The wish list, written on a piece of old and torn paper, was placed in a small brown leather bag, along with his driver’s license, a ring, and various little things. Carney, 46, looked down at it and then said she needed to finish it. She was 25 when her father was hit by a driver who ran a red light while chatting on a cellphone. In the immediate aftermath of her father’s death, “I didn’t talk about it,” says Carney. “I really had some shame about it, because I thought it was an undignified (不体面的) way to die.” A few years later, she became an activist for safe driving, writing articles about the subject, fundraising, and giving talks and interviews. But the trauma (创伤) of her father’s death continued to exist. For Carney, the wish list was an unexpected opportunity to work through her pain and reconnect with her dad. The list was written in the year she was born. It had 60 tasks, six of which had already been checked off, leaving 54 items for Carney to complete. The tasks ranged from relatively simple undertakings to harder tasks. Several tasks were seemingly impossible, but Carney did not back down. While Carney completed many of the wish list tasks on her own, “It didn’t really feel like I was doing things alone, because I knew my dad was with me,” she says. “I feel like my relationship with him is very present.” Completing the wish list enabled Carney to get to know her dad in a way she hadn’t had the chance to — and never thought she would. His father spent his days working as a salesman and his spare time singing, writing and performing. “My dad was such a dreamer,” Carney says. “He knew what it meant to be alive; he knew how to have fun.” Finishing her father’s wish list was the most satisfying experience of her life, she says. 注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 So she decided to write her own wish list, which included specific and realistic goals. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “I really encourage everybody to write down what they want to do,” she says. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 So she decided to write her own wish list, which included specific and realistic goals. Among them were tasks like visiting certain places, trying out new hobbies, and spending more quality time with her loved ones. As she checked off each item, she felt a deep sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. Her own wish list became a testament to her growth and toughness, showing how she had moved forward from the tragedy of her father’s death while still honoring his memory. It was a way for her to continue her father’s legacy of living life to the fullest. “I really encourage everybody to write down what they want to do,” she says. “It gives you a sense of direction and purpose. And when you look back at what you’ve achieved, it’s incredibly rewarding. This also makes you have a more positive attitude towards life. Plus, it’s a way to connect with your loved ones, even after they’re gone. You can carry on their dreams and aspirations through your own actions. B The rolled-up painting of a female figure was discovered in a pile of rubbish that a junk dealer was hired to throw away in the early 1960s, and it hung in the family living room and then restaurant in Pompei, near Naples, for years until his son decided to investigate. It is real. It is authentic.” 4. What does the underlined word “inkling” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Thought. B. Decision. C. Lesson. D. Report. C. Generous. D. Determined. C Around the US, educators say students in class routinely send messages, listen to music and shop online. C His students have made little progress. D. The new cellphone policy is beneficial. D Imagine a customer-service center that speaks your language, no matter what it is. 12. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
