We all want to do things well. However, growing up also includes
accepting when things go wrong. In fact, mistakes can lead to some of
the most interesting and meaningful results.
Aiming for good results can help you focus on your goals, but it's
also vital to focus on enjoying the process. Caring too much about
whether things go as planned can put a lot of pressure on you and lead
to worry.
5
Dr. Rekha Vara is a doctor who helps people with their mental
health(心理健康). She says getting things wrong is part of growing up.
“We also have to experience the uncomfortable feeling when we get
things wrong. This helps us to become stronger,” says Dr. Vara. “Or
we'll be too scared to make mistakes. This fear can lead us to put off
doing difficult things or avoid trying new things.”
Learning from your mistakes is necessary during growing up. The
most important thing is what you choose to do next. Try not to take it
too seriously, blame(责备) yourself or feel too disappointed or upset. Dr.
Vara explains, “Remember you're a common man. Humans make mistakes.”
Instead, thinking about what you might do differently next time helps
a lot. In one study, if students were reminded to forgive(宽恕) and be
kind to themselves when they failed a test, they felt more encouraged to
try again, while other students were less pleased to have a second try.
1.What does the underlined word “vital” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Proper. B. Boring. C. Lucky. D. Important.
2.Which of the following would Dr. Vara agree with?
A. Good results make us stronger.
B. Failure is normal in growing up.
C. Fear leads us to try new things.
D. People hardly ever get things wrong.

I won't be afraid of mistakes or feel down when making mistakes.
Because it's common for every one to make mistakes. The most im-
portant thing is to learn from them and try not to make the same
mistakes again.(言之有理、言之有物即可。)

Everyone has a better self in their hearts. But for many people, it is
hard for them to make a change for that, especially a big one. Success
leads to success, and failure repeats failure.【推荐背诵】 But by
taking small steps, we all can be a better one.
Tidying your house.
No matter how large or small a house you have, you may often
delay the “spring clean” again and again until the summer comes. A big
clean is seldom enjoyable, but you can tell yourself, “Today, I will do
12
the bedroom, and nothing more.” Or, “I will do the chairs this morning,
and the tables this afternoon.” It will probably take you longer, but it
gets done.
Sporting achievement.
To many people around the world, running a marathon(马拉松) is
usually something impossible. But anything is simply one small step after
another. Those great runners often repeat, “Just to the top of that hill,”
or, “Just one more mile,” over and over—until one mile becomes 26.2
miles.
Changing your character.
There's a lot of truth in the power of habit. When we do a thing
over and over, our brains will form a fixed mind-set. It takes small
change step by step. So, try to do one kind thing before lunch. Do
another one before you go to bed. Over time, you will easily and
habitually do kind things one day.
Rome was not built in a day and so does making changes.【推荐

Youngsters should always be passionate
(热情的). We still remember that about 100
years ago, millions of brave people together
founded the Communist Party of China(CPC).
They devoted themselves to the development of our country. It was they
who brought us today's peaceful life.
26
As modern young people, we all have our own dreams. And it's our
passion that drives us forward. I have a friend who loves music and
often posts his own works on the Internet. He receives lots of followers
and praise. He can not only develop his interest, but also have an
influence on others. And I realized that millions of young people like
him are now bravely chasing(追逐) their dreams.
At the same time, we have to take up our social responsibility. No
matter when a big accident happens, there are always armed police
officers around the country fighting there. Among them, some are even
00s. In addition, it's touching to see many people offer help online by
donating money and clothes. Young people have a sense of responsibility
to stand up in the face of difficulties at any time.
By being passionate and responsible, we should show the world that
under the leadership of the CPC, Chinese youth will certainly shoulder
the heavy task of national development.
