I really need a snack! Should I eat a banana or a bowl of ice cream? Well, ice cream, of course ... , but wait. Am I making the right choice?
A snack is any food that you eat between meals. Eating a snack isn't a bad thing. But be sure to think about what you're about to put in your stomach! If you want to eat between meals, reach for something healthy. Snacks such as nuts, fruit, lowsugar yogurt and popcorn are good choices. These snacks have important nutrients. Yogurt and nuts, for example, have protein.
Snacks that contain lots of sugar, salt and fat are unhealthy. A sweet candy bar can make you feel energetic when you eat it. But after a while, your body may crash. You may feel uncomfortable or unable to focus on anything. But snacking on healthy food can keep you full of energy through the day.
Not all sugars are bad for you. Fresh fruit has natural sugars that your body needs. But snacks such as candy and chips have added sugars. Your body is in a hurry in digesting (消化) that kind of sugar. Then you get a sugar spike (糖峰值), and shortly after that you may break down. Foods with added sugar also don't have many nutrients.
You need to eat a variety of foods in order to stay healthy. As a result, when you want to eat a snack, be creative! Here is a simple recipe you can try. All you need is some Greek yogurt and some fresh fruit.
(1)Cover the bottom of a pan with some parchment paper.
(2)Spread some Greek yogurt on the paper.
(3)Cut up some fresh fruit. Put it on the yogurt.
(4)Put the pan in the freezer until it's totally hard.
(5)Take out your frozen treat. Break it into pieces. Then enjoy it with your friends!

(2024·广东省湛江市高二下期中)
Lizard (蜥蜴) Problems
My problems started when I learned that Mrs Smith would be my fourthgrade teacher. She had a lizard in her classroom, and lizards were on my list of terrifying things.
Worse, Richard was in my class again. He knows I'm afraid of spiders, and all year he pretended to put them in my hair. If he found out lizards were on my list, I'd be finished.
On the first day of school I tried not to look at the glass container in the corner, but Mrs Smith pulled out the lizard and set him against her shoulder like a baby. “This is Ripley,” she said.
Richard whispered, “Bet you're scared of him.” “I am not!” I said. Mrs Smith looked toward Richard and me. “What's wrong?” she asked.
“Amy's scared of Ripley,” Richard announced. “No, I'm not,” my chest tightened. “I love lizards. They're my favorite animals.”
Mrs Smith smiled. “I was going to ask for a volunteer to feed Ripley at recess (课间休息), but since you're a lizard lover, how would you like the job?”
She probably thought I was speechless with joy.
Before recess, Mrs Smith showed me Ripley's bag of greens. “I can handle that,” I told myself. I'll just lift the container lid (盖子), drop in the greens, and run.
As Mrs Smith led the class out the door, I was frozen in a block of ice. I wanted to cry, but my tears were frozen, too. Ripley sat still watching. I knew he was waiting to jump at me the second I lifted the lid. I just stood there for a long time, staring back at Ripley.
Voices in the hall told me recess was over. I closed my eyes, lifted the lid, threw in the greens, and shut the lid. Mrs Smith said, “You must be enjoying your job, Amy. You didn't come out for recess at all.”
Richard's eyes got wide. I'd fooled him. But now I'd have to spend every recess with a lizard.
After a few weeks, Richard said, “Why does Amy always get to feed Ripley? I want a turn.” Hearing that, I was overwhelmed with joy. I didn't have to stay with the fearful animal at every recess. Mrs Smith said, “OK. I guess Amy can have an assistant.” A surge of terror flooded over me again. After Mrs Smith and the class left, Richard raised the lid, grabbed Ripley and took him out of the container. Terrified and nervous, I immediately threw the greens into the container. I tried to pretend that I was not scared of Ripley but in vain. Noticing my scare, Richard intentionally played the Ripley in front of me. “Please put him back,” I said, trembling with panic.
I meant for Richard to put Ripley down inside the container, but Richard set him on the floor and ran outside. Consumed with fear and anxiety, I stood there rooted to the spot, not knowing what to do next. It was at the moment that Ripley walked away towards the door. Taking a deep breath, I grabbed him and put him into the container in a hurry. What amazed me was that the lizard was not so terrified as I imagined. In the following days, I tried to touch Ripley, held him and set him against my shoulder. And then I pulled out my list of terrifying things and officially crossed off lizards. Spiders were next on my list. I also gained a life lesson that bravely taking the first step to overcome fear in heart did count.
Consumed with fear and anxiety, I stood there rooted to the spot, not knowing what to do next.
本句主干是I stood there,是“主谓状”结构。Consumed with fear and anxiety是过去分词短语作状语,not knowing what to do next是现在分词短语作伴随状语,其中“疑问词+不定式”结构作knowing的宾语。

In the United States, it is reported that one in fourth nurses are obese,__with nearly twothirds being overweight.
While some have argued that obese nurse may be less productive and take more time off sick, this isn't my concern at all. I'm just worried about the example they set to others. Yes, of course, nurses and doctors struggle with having a healthy lifestyle like everyone else. But if they stick to the basic principles of keeping a healthy lifestyle, then they have no business being on the front line. No patient is going to take them seriously unless they show that they at least try to practise what they promote.
It's a serious professional failing, because it sends the disastrous message of “do as I say not as I do”, which is never going to result in someone changing their ways. You wouldn't take advice about reducing your drinking from an alcoholic. So why should you be expected to listen to an overweight nurse who is telling you to lose a few pounds?
Of course, there are lots of examples when a doctor or nurse's personal struggles can really help. I used to smoke and I find this actually helps me because I can relate to patients—I know their struggles, I know their concerns and I know the things they say to themselves to avoid quitting. Knowing that I used to smoke helps me come across as more human to my patients—I've done silly things but I've changed and so they can.
