With graduation coming up soon, I know that many of you are preparing to enter the workforce for the first time. Job interviews can be an enormously stressful experience, but like most things, interviewing is a skill, not a talent, and a little practice goes a long way. I know many of you feel nervous just at the thought of being interviewed, but you need to remember that you’ve been invited for an interview because your potential employers think you’d be suitable for the job. So, have a little confidence in yourself. The best thing you can do is be prepared and professional, which will help you make a strong first impression. Before an interview, you should always review your résumé and application, which is why I asked you all to bring an outline of your achievements, academic or otherwise, up to now. You’ll be needing that later. Once your résumé is solid, then you can start preparing for possible interview questions. I’m going to hand out a list of those questions now. You need to think about how you’d answer each of them. Don’t bother making notes — you can’t bring notes to an interview. OK, that’s all, does anyone have any questions for me? A Out- of- hours: an introduction to China 200ct 2022-17 Dec 2022 Journey through the extraordinary cultures of China in this special guided tour before the Museum opens to the public. 根据第三段“In a beautifully refurnished space which has recently re-opened, this introductory tour will give you a deep appreciation for the magnificent objects on display featuring Tang dynasty tomb figures buried around AD 728 and beautiful Ming dynasty blue-and-white porcelain (瓷器).(在最近重新开放的装修精美的空间里,这个导览之旅将带您深入欣赏展品,包括公元728年左右的唐代墓葬和美丽的明朝青花瓷)”可知,该展览的特色是可以欣赏唐代/明代的文物。 根据Price部分中“• £ 33 • £ 16(Ages 5-15 years) • Free tor under 5s and disabled visitors’ assistant (no booking required)(33英镑,16英镑(5-15岁),5岁以下及残疾访客助理免费(无需预约))”可知,父母两人和两个孩子(4岁,16岁)需支付33+33+33=99英镑,故选A。 根据Booking information部分第三点中“If you would like to bring a group of 10 or more people or arrange a special out-of-hours tour, please email traveltradebookings@britishmuseum.org to discuss your options.(如果你想带一个10人以上的团体或安排一个特殊的非工作时间的旅游,请发送电子邮件traveltradebookings@britishmuseum.org讨论您的选择)”可知,如果一个班的20名中国学生想一起参观展览,需要提前发邮件讨论,故选D。 B Despite being connected online, no matter what state you’re from, each city still retains its own language and slang. At my public high school in Los Angeles, we had our own secret language. A party was a “yart”. A beer was a “brewsky”. If I tried to use these words in front of anyone that didn’t live in Los Angeles, they would have no idea what was going on. When I came to college and used these words around my roommate from the East Coast, she would look at me with a blank stare. Teenagers are often blamed for pulling apart standard linguistic patterns. The way my parents used to talk isn’t the same way that teenagers talk now. But it reflects the dynamic nature of language, which evolves over time due to various influences, including generational shifts and technological advancements. Teenagers, at an age when they are actively exploring their identity and seeking to differentiate themselves from previous generations, often play a significant role in this evolution. It’s interesting to note that people around the world all have different terms for everyday things. Last year, I came across a British show called Love Island, which is a reality show that mixes people from different parts of the U. K. in a “villa”(another word Americans don’t typically say) for about eight weeks. As a bystander, the way they talked felt so elegant and fun, but to them, it was just normal. Whether the way we talk is regional or from online, the soul of communication lies in its power to connect people, foster understanding, and facilitate interactions that shape our personal and social lives. I have often found it’s the way we connect with the people we live around. 24. Why might the roommate not understand the author’s high school language? A. It is specific to Los Angeles. B. It is too informal. C. It is outdated. D. It is from online. 25. According to the text, how do the teenagers contribute to the evolution of language? A. By imitating their parents. B. By applying advanced technology. C. By following previous language patterns. D. By finding their own voice. 26. Why does the author mention the British show in paragraph 3? A. To demonstrate worldwide language diversity. B. To speak highly of British English. C. To recommend a reality show. D. To introduce everyday expressions in Britain. 27. What is mainly talked about in the last paragraph? A. The means of communication. B. The nature of communication. C. The elements of communication. D. The process of communication. A 25. D 26. A 27. 根据第一段中的“If I tried to use these words in front of anyone that didn’t live in Los Angeles, they would have no idea what was going on. (如果我试图在任何不住在洛杉矶的人面前使用这些词,他们会不知道发生了什么。)”可知,如果在洛杉矶以外的地方讲作者的高中方言,听众会一头雾水。故选A。 根据第二段中的“Teenagers, at an age when they are actively exploring their identity and seeking to differentiate themselves from previous generations, often play a significant role in this evolution. (青少年在积极探索自己的身份并寻求与前几代人区分开来的年龄,往往在这一演变中发挥着重要作用。)”可知,青少年正处在积极探索自我,力求与前辈不同的时期,所以他们会创造出专属的说话方式,这一行为在语言的演变中起了重要作用。故选D。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“It’s interesting to note that people around the world all have different terms for everyday things. Last year, I came across a British show called Love Island, which is a reality show that mixes people from different parts of the U. K. in a “villa”(another word Americans don’t typically say) for about eight weeks. As a bystander, the way they talked felt so elegant and fun, but to them, it was just normal.(有趣的是,世界各地的人们对日常事物都有不同的说法。去年,我看到了一个叫《爱情岛》的英国节目,这是一个真人秀节目,让来自英国不同地区的人住在一个“别墅”(美国人通常不会说这个词)里,为期八周。作为一个旁观者,他们的谈话方式是如此优雅和有趣,但对他们来说,这只是正常的。)”可知,作者引用自己观看英国真人秀的经历,是为了支持自己在第三段第一句中表达的观点。故选A。 根据最后一段中的“Whether the way we talk is regional or from online, the soul of communication lies in its power to connect people, foster understanding, and facilitate interactions that shape our personal and social lives. (无论我们的谈话方式是地区性的还是网络性的,沟通的灵魂在于它能将人们联系起来,增进理解,促进互动,从而塑造我们的个人和社会生活。)”可知,本段的关键词是“the soul of communication”。 B。 C As artificial-intelligence products steadily improve at pretending to be human — an AI produced voice that books restaurant reservations by phone, for example, or a chat robot that answers consumers’ questions online people will increasingly be put in the worrying situation of not knowing whether they are talking to a machine. But the truth may make such products less effective: recent research finds a trade-off between transparency (透明度) and cooperation in human-computer interactions. The study used a simple game in which paired players make a series of decisions to cooperate with or betray their partner. In the long run, it pays for both to keep cooperating. The researchers used an Al product, when pretending as a person, which was better than people are at getting human partners to cooperate. But previous work suggested people tend to disbelieve machines, so the scientists wondered what would happen if the robot revealed itself as such. The team hoped people playing with a known robot would recognize its ability to cooperate and would eventually overcome their disbelief. “Sadly, we failed at this goal,” says Talal Rahwan, a computer scientist at New York University in Abu Dhabi and a senior author on the paper, published last November in Nature Machine Intelligence. “No matter what the robot did, people just stuck to their prejudice.” A robot playing openly as a robot was less likely to get cooperation than another human, even though its strategy was clearly more beneficial to both players. In an additional experiment, players were told, “data suggest that people are better off if they treat the robot as if it were a human.” It had no effect. Virginia Dignum, who leads the Social and Ethical Artificial Intelligence group at Umea University in Sweden and was not involved in the study, praises the researchers for exploring the transparency effectiveness trade-off, but she would like to see it tested in a different setup. Talal’s team said that in the public field, people should be asked for agreement to be deceived (欺骗) about a robot’s identity. It cannot be on an interaction-by-interaction basis, or else the “deception” obviously will not work. But overall permission for deception still raises ethical quandaries (困境). Dignum says humans should have the option to know after they have interacted with a robot — but if she is calling customer service with a simple question, she adds, “I just want to get my answer.” 28. The underlined word “trade-off” is closest in meaning to . A. distinguishing B. balancing C. switching D. combining 29. According to the passage, what attitude do people generally take towards robots? A. Positive. B. Casual. C. Uncertain. D. Distrustful. 30. What can be inferred about the research findings from the third paragraph? A. They fail to support the team’s assumption. B. They are different from the previous findings. C. They will draw people’s attention to robots’ problems. D. They can explain why people treat a robot like a human. 31. According to the passage, what is Virginia Dignum most likely to agree with? A. Tall Rahwan’s research findings can’t apply to the real-world situations. B. Overall permission for interacting with a robot does more harm than good. C. People needn’t be told that they are interacting with a robot on all occasions. D. The relationship between transparency and effectiveness has been fully explored. B 29. D 30. A 31. 根据第二段“The researchers used an Al product, when pretending as a person, which was better than people are at getting human partners to cooperate. But previous work suggested people tend to disbelieve machines, so the scientists wondered what would happen if the robot revealed itself as such.”(研究人员使用了一种人工智能产品,当假扮成人类时,要比让人类伙伴合作方面表现得更好。 和第三段“‘No matter what the robot did, people just stuck to their prejudice.’ A robot playing openly as a robot was less likely to get cooperation than another human, even though its strategy was clearly more beneficial to both players.”(‘不管机器人做什么,人们都坚持自己的偏见。’ 故结合划线词所在句“But the truth may make such products less effective: recent research finds a trade-off between transparency  (透明度) and cooperation in human-computer interactions.”(但事实可能会使这些产品的效果降低:最近的研究发现,在人机交互中,透明度和合作之间存在trade-off。) 根据第二段“But previous work suggested people tend to disbelieve machines, so the scientists wondered what would happen if the robot revealed itself as such.”(但之前的研究表明,人们往往不相信机器,所以科学家们想知道,如果机器人暴露了自己,会发生什么。) 根据第三段“The team hoped people playing with a known robot would recognize its ability to cooperate and would eventually overcome their disbelief. ‘Sadly, we failed at this goal,’ says Talal Rahwan,”(该团队希望与已知机器人玩耍的人能够认识到它的合作能力,并最终克服他们的怀疑。‘很遗憾,我们没能实现这个目标,’Talal Rahwan说)和“No matter what the robot did, people just stuck to their prejudice.”(不管机器人做什么,人们只是坚持自己的偏见。) 故选A。 根据最后一段“Talal’s team said that in the public field, people should be asked for agreement to be deceived (欺骗) about a robot’s identity.”(Talal团队表示,在公共领域,被机器人的身份欺骗,应该征求人们的同意。)和“Dignum says humans should have the option to know after they have interacted with a robot—but if she is calling customer service with a simple question, she adds, ‘I just want to get my answer.’”(Dignum说,人类在与机器人互动后应该有选择权,但如果她打电话给客服问一个简单的问题,她补充说,‘我只想得到我的答案。’) C。 D Most of us don’t have any memories from the first three to four year of our lives. And when we do try to think back to our earliest memories, it is often unclear whether they are the real thing or just recollections based on photos or stories told to us. The phenomenon, known as “childhood amnesia,” bas been puzzling psychologists for more than a century. It may seem that the reason we don’t remember being babies is that babies don’t have a fully developed memory. But babies as young as six months can form both short-term and long-term memories. In one study, six- month-olds who learned how to press a lever to operate a toy. Of course, memory capabilities at these ages are not adult-like — they continue to develop until adolescence. In fact, developmental changes in basic memory processes have been put forward as an explanation for childhood amnesia, and it’s one of the best theories we’ve got so far. These basic processes involve several brain regions and include forming, maintaining and later bringing back the memory. But this does not seem to be the whole story. Another factor that we know plays a role is language. From the ages of one to six, children progress from the one word stage of speaking to becoming fluent in their native language(s), so there are major changes in their language competence that overlap with the childhood amnesia period. It is true to some extent that a child’s ability to describe an event predicts how well they remember it months or years later. While there are still things we don’t understand about childhood amnesia, it’s important to remember that, even if we can’t clearly remember specific events from when we were very young, they still influence our behavior. The first few years of life are forgettable and yet powerful in shaping the adults that we become. 32. What does the study mentioned in paragraph 2 show? A. Babies don’t have a fully developed memory. B. Babies don’t suffer from childhood amnesia. C. Babies can remember things for weeks. D. Babies can benefit from hands - on learning. 33. Which of the following is one of the best theories concerning childhood amnesia? A. Babies’ brains are not mature enough. B. Babies’ language skills need developing. C. Babies cannot go through basic memory processes. D. Babies rarely experience events that had a big impact. 34. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. Specific events from early childhood should be told to children. B. The first few years of life should be taken seriously. C. We can overcome childhood amnesia someday. D. Childhood amnesia is fairly common. 35. What can be the best title for the text? A. How our early childhood memories form B. How childhood amnesia influences our lives C. Why some memories disappear and others don’t D. Why we can’t remember our early childhood 【答案】32. C 33. C 34. B 35. 根据第二段“It may seem that the reason we don’t remember being babies is that babies don’t have a fully developed memory. But babies as young as six months can form both short-term and long-term memories. In one study, six- month-olds who learned how to press a lever to operate a toy.(我们不记得自己是婴儿的原因似乎是婴儿没有发育完全的记忆。但6个月大的婴儿就能形成短期和长期记忆。在一项研究中,六个月大的婴儿学习如何按杠杆操作玩具)”可推知,第二段中提到的研究说明了婴儿能记住几周的事情。故选C。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Of course, memory capabilities at these ages are not adult-like — they continue to develop until adolescence. In fact, developmental changes in basic memory processes have been put forward as an explanation for childhood amnesia, and it’s one of the best theories we’ve got so far.(当然,这些年龄段的记忆能力并不像成年人那样——它们会一直发展到青春期。事实上,基本记忆过程的发展变化已经被提出来解释儿童健失症,这是迄今为止我们得到的最好的理论之一)”可知,关于童年健忘症的最好的理论之一是“婴儿不能经历基本的记忆过程”。故选C。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“While there are still things we don’t understand about childhood amnesia, it’s important to remember that, even if we can’t clearly remember specific events from when we were very young, they still influence our behavior. Realistic art aims to show real-life scenes, people, and objects exactly as they appear. It involves paying close attention to details, making things look like photographs.____36____. It’s more about expressing feelings, emotions, and ideas. Realistic art is easy to understand. Viewers can easily recognize what is portrayed. Take the Mona Lisa, for example—it’s a realistic painting of a lady with a mysterious smile.____37____, helping us to learn about the past. Unlike realistic art, abstract art is more about being creative. ____38____. They use shapes, colors and patterns to express feelings and ideas. Abstract art means different things to different people. Some people enjoy trying to figure out what the artwork conveys. _____39_____. Realistic art needs precision in drawing or sculpting to make things look real. Abstract art requires imagination to use shapes and colors in new ways. Many artists are skilled in both. They create realistic pieces to demonstrate their technical skills and abstract ones to display their creativity. As for personal preference, some people prefer the clear stories of realistic art while others are attracted to the mystery of abstract art, interpreting meanings in the shapes and forms. Together, the two kinds of art make the art world diverse and engaging.____40____. A. Both types of art take skills to make B. Photographs preserve faces of folks from long ago C. Grasping abstract art demands more artistic training D. Both ways of creating art have their own value and beauty E. In contrast, abstract art focuses less on realistic appearances F. Artworks like this tell stories about history and everyday life G. Artists have the freedom to go beyond real-life representations 【答案】36. E 37. F 38. G 39. A 40. Abstract art requires imagination to use shapes and colors in new ways.(现实主义艺术需要精确的绘画或雕刻,使事物看起来真实。抽象艺术需要想象力,以新的方式使用形状和颜色。)”可知,该段讲述的核心内容是两种艺术各自需要的技巧以及艺术家们对两种艺术的应用。选项A“Both types of art take skills to make(这两种类型的艺术都需要技巧)”提出两种艺术都需要技巧,可总结该段的核心内容,作为该段的首句。故选A项。 【40题详解】 根据前文“Together, the two kinds of art make the art world diverse and engaging.(这两种艺术共同使艺术世界多样化和引人入胜。)” D“Both ways of creating art have their own value and beauty(两种艺术创作方式都有各自的价值和美)”总结了各自的价值和美,与前文在句意上衔接紧密,可作为末尾句。 Jen is a 39-year old community dancer with Down’s Syndrome(唐氏综合征). I still remember one thing that happened on the road two years ago. It was a fine day. On my way back home, there were a lot of cars coming and going as usual. Suddenly, I was stopped at a traffic light by some people who asked for help. A woman tried her best to give way to an ambulance (救护车), but drove her car over the stony obstacles (障碍) that separated the bike line from the street. Unluckily, she had her car trapped as a result. She could not move the car in any direction. She felt really nervous and did not know how to deal with it. Luckily, many kind people offered to help her. Some people tried to lift the car back and some people tried to move the stony obstacles. Even the teenagers put down their schoolbags and joined them. But the obstacles were too heavy and high. They failed. Seeing that they could not do much about it, they called the emergency phone numbers. And finally they had no choice but to walk away. The woman alone in the car tried to call for service. While watching the other people leave and finding she needed some service, I realized that the woman would be on her own and felt helpless. She watched her car and the stony obstacles hopelessly. And at that time, I imagined how painful I would be if I were in that situation. So, I asked her what I could do for her. She appreciated my concern. She said staying with her was fine. She made a call and was told that it would take about 45 minutes for someone to arrive. With a sense of sadness, she said, “How will I spend the boring 45 minutes?” I said to her with smile, “I will stay with you and buy you a cup of tea if you like. ” “It is very kind of you to stay with me,” she smiled at last. Paragraph 1: I tried to comfort the woman who seemed to feel worried about causing trouble for others. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Finally, help came and her car was helped back on the main road. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: I tried to comfort the woman who seemed to feel worried about causing trouble for others. But actually it was not too much trouble since they could still pass. We laughed and I joked that all we really needed was some tea for our chat. She thought it was a good idea. So I gladly ran to the opposite road to buy a cup of green tea. We enjoyed the tea and talked happily. We seemed to be good friends. The passersby felt a little strange when seeing us communicating beside the road, but they just smiled. Paragraph 2: Finally, help came and her car was helped back on the main road. She thanked me for my help. I said I had just spent 45 minutes staying with her. She seemed to feel relaxed when we said our goodbyes. She asked for my phone number so she could return the kindness, but I told her it was OK. When knowing that I must pick up my daughter, she offered to drive to my daughter’s school first. I accepted it and thanked her, too. I believed not having to face a difficult situation alone mattered much for her and I hoped people could help each other. 1】We laughed and I joked that all we really needed was some tea for our chat. C As artificial-intelligence products steadily improve at pretending to be human — an AI produced voice that books restaurant reservations by phone, for example, or a chat robot that answers consumers’ questions online people will increasingly be put in the worrying situation of not knowing whether they are talking to a machine. D Most of us don’t have any memories from the first three to four year of our lives. A Specific events from early childhood should be told to children. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
