A 15. A 16. C 17. W: So tell me, Ben, what made you start collecting picture postcards? M: As a boy, I often saw postcards at the seaside and in tourist places, but I didn’t find them interesting then. That suddenly changed a few years ago when I discovered hundreds of them in the spare room. They were so beautiful that I started collecting cards. W: Whose collection was it? M: Well, my grandfather used to send postcards home from wherever he was in the world. Anyway, my mum and uncle would always read them, and my mum decided to keep them all. So that’s how the family collection began. W: Which kind of postcards do you like best these days? M: Well, I still like the ones with pictures of famous harbors, like Sydney. And I’ve also got some that have beautiful photos of religious buildings, but most of all, I love the ones which show ships, trains, and planes from the early last century. W: What do you think of those old postcards? M: They’re wonderful. Some of the pictures were actually drawn by top-class artists. And what makes me laugh is not the jokes themselves but how outdated they seem now. They tell us a lot about how differently people saw things in those days. W: Yes, they give us an idea of what society was like back then. Some of the very old ones must be quite valuable nowadays. M: Yes, though perhaps surprisingly, it’s the subject of the picture that matters most, not because it’s from the end of the 19th century, or whether it’s been posted or not. The ones with the highest values are about past events, like a famous wedding, or a football team winning the cup— that kind of thing. W: Well, Ben, thanks very much. 18. What do you know about Stardate 3000? A. The fiction series won’t be on tonight. B. Viewers have mixed comments on it. C. It turns out to be nothing but a failure. 19. What is Miller and Edwards probably intended to do? A. To introduce actors. B. To entertain viewers. C. To provide directions. 20. Who is Andy MaKay? A. The director of An Insect’s Life. B. The host of the TV program. C. A character in Policewatch. B 19. B 20. M: ... and finally on TV Diary, a word about some of the programs on your screens tonight. Beginning tonight is Stardate 3000, an American science fiction series. It’s been on television in the USA for the last two months, and comments on the show have been mixed. It certainly has some fine actors, but there is a limit to how much a director can do with stories as weak as these. I’m sure I’ve seen most of the scenery before in other shows from the same studio. Perhaps some of the money they saved on the scenery could be spent on getting some better writers! At 8 p. m., you can see An Insect’s Life, an hour-long film full of wonderful close-up shots. It seems the main problem with being an insect is that everyone else wants to eat you — including other insects! This program is great fun, but if you’re the sort of person who runs out of the room the moment you see an insect, it’s certainly not for you. After the news at 9:30 on BBC1, there’s Miller and Edwards. The two comedians have saved a lot of their best jokes for this special program. Tonight’s show lasts an hour instead of the usual half an hour. Miller and Edwards are joined by the famous actor, Giles Welby, who plays an angry motorist in one scene. Now, fans of ITV’s Policewatch drama will have to wait a little longer to find out what happens to Andy McKay, the Scottish policeman who always seems to have a cold. The program will not be shown tonight because the European Cup football match is on instead. But Policewatch will be back next Thursday as usual. That’s all for today. Thank you very much for listening. A Best Washington, D.C.Museums Washington, D. As the plane disappeared behind the trees, Gelinne, a former Navy commander, realized it was going to land in the creek (小海湾). He flashed on a moment from more than 20 years earlier: Sept.11, 2001, he was at work when terrorists crashed a jumbo jet into the building. He fled the chaos but has always wondered if he could have stayed inside and helped. On this day, he didn’t hesitate. Racing down to the waterfront, he saw the plane had slid to a stop on the broad, frozen creek, far from the shore. It was now sinking. The pilot was standing on the wing. Gelinne knew that the icy water could kill the pilot. Gelinne tested the ice with his foot and decided not to take any chances walking on it. So, he rushed back and swiftly pulled out a kayak (橡皮船) from his back deck. He set off. His initial attempts left him circling on the spot. But with some muscle, he made progress. It was physically-demanding work. When Gelinne reached the plane, it had sunk; only its tail was visible. The pilot was standing on a tail wing, submerged up to his chest. Gelinne edged his kayak off the ice and into the water, paddling toward the pilot. To keep the pilot calm, he joked, “Just hang on to the boat as if you were hugging your wife.” The pilot grabbed the kayak’s bow. Gelinne knew he had to get the pilot out of the water immediately. But all their desperate attempts ended in failure. By now a police officer had arrived and radioed for help. A boat from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources appeared, breaking through ice as it arrived. It picked up the pilot, Steve Couchman, 71, and rushed him to safety; he would be treated for minor injuries. Rescue had arrived just in time, Gelinne recalled. “I’m 60 years old. There was no way I could get him to shore.” Still, he was satisfied he’d gone the right way that day. 24. What happened to the small aircraft? A. It ran out of fuel. B. It sank into the icy water. C. It flew off the course. D. It was attacked by terrorists. 25. Why did Gelinne set out to help without hesitation? A. To make up for regret. B. To carry out his mission. C. To earn others’ respect. D. To demonstrate his power. 26. Which word best describes the situation the pilot was in? A. Favorable. B. Life-changing. C. One-sided. D. Critical. 27. What is the best title for the story? A. Dragging the Pilot B. Braving the Elements C. Seizing the Chance D. Fighting the Currents 【答案】24. B 25. A 26. D 27. 根据第三段中“Racing down to the waterfront, he saw the plane had slid to a stop on the broad, frozen creek, far from the shore. It was now sinking. The pilot was standing on the wing. Gelinne knew that the icy water could kill the pilot.(他飞快地跑到岸边,看到飞机滑到一条宽阔、结冰的小溪上停了下来,离海岸很远。飞机正在下沉。飞行员站在机翼上。Gelinne知道冰冷的海水会杀死飞行员。)”以及第五段中“When Gelinne reached the plane, it had sunk; only its tail was visible.(当琳赶到飞机旁时,飞机已经沉没了;只有尾巴看得见。) ”可知,那架小飞机沉入冰冷的水中。故选B。 【25题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“He flashed on a moment from more than 20 years earlier: Sept.11, 2001, he was at work when terrorists crashed a jumbo jet into the building. He fled the chaos but has always wondered if he could have stayed inside and helped.(他闪现出20多年前的一幕:2001年9月11日,恐怖分子将一架大型喷气式飞机撞向大楼时,他正在工作。他逃离了混乱,但一直想知道他是否可以留在里面帮忙。)”和第三段“On this day, he didn’t hesitate.(这一天,他没有犹豫。)” 故选A。 根据第三段“Racing down to the waterfront, he saw the plane had slid to a stop on the broad, frozen creek, far from the shore. It was now sinking. The pilot was standing on the wing. Gelinne knew that the icy water could kill the pilot.(他飞快地跑到岸边,看到飞机滑到一条宽阔、结冰的小溪上停了下来,离海岸很远。现在船正在下沉。飞行员站在机翼上。Gelinne知道冰冷的海水会杀死飞行员。)”和第五段“The pilot was standing on a tail wing, submerged up to his chest.(飞行员站在尾翼上,水没过他的胸部。)” 通读全文,尤其是倒数第二段“By now a police officer had arrived and radioed for help. A boat from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources appeared, breaking through ice as it arrived. It picked up the pilot, Steve Couchman, 71, and rushed him to safety; he would be treated for minor injuries.(这时,一名警察已经到了,用无线电呼救。Maryland Department of Natural Resources的一艘船出现了,在抵达时破冰。它救起了71岁的飞行员Steve Couchman,并迅速将他送到安全地带;他将接受轻伤治疗。)”和最后一段“Rescue had arrived just in time, Gelinne recalled. “I’m 60 years old. There was no way I could get him to shore.” Still, he was satisfied he’d gone the right way that day.(救援人员及时赶到,Gelinne回忆道。“我60岁了。我根本没办法把他弄上岸。”尽管如此,他还是很满意自己那天走对了路。)”可知,本文主要讲的是Gelinne勇敢营救飞机失事飞行员的故事,因此最好的题目是A选项“Dragging the Pilot(拖拽飞行员)”。故选A。 C Glass is referred to as a material which can infinitely be recycled without it impacting its quality, purity or durability. Recycled glass can be crushed into glass pieces, which can be melted down and used to produce more glass. Glass used for packaging has a high recycling rate compared to other packaging materials. In Europe, the average glass recycling rate is 76%, compared to 41% for plastic packaging and 31% for wooden packaging. When glass is left in the natural environment, it is less likely to cause pollution than plastic. Unlike plastics, which break down into microplastics that can get into soils and water, glass is non-toxic. “Glass is mainly made of silica, which is a natural substance,” says Franziska Trautmann, the co-founder of Glass Half Full, a New Orleans-based company that recycles glass into sand that can be used for coastal restoration and disaster relief. Silica, also known as silica dioxide, makes up 59% of the Earth’s crust. Since it is a natural compound, there is no concern about environmental degradation. However, glass requires higher temperatures than plastic and aluminum to melt and form, says Alice Brock, a PhD researcher at University of Southampton in the UK. Raw materials for making virgin glass also release greenhouse gases during the melting process, adding to its environmental footprint. According to the International Energy Agency, the container and flat-glass industries emit over 60 megatons of CO2 per year. A key problem with glass recycling is that it involves the remelting process, which is the most energy intensive part of glass production. It accounts for 75% of the energy consumption during production. Even though glass containers can be reused an average of 12-20 times, glass is often treated as single-use. Single-use glass disposed of at landfills can take up to one million years to decompose. So the next time you want to drop a glass bottle, perhaps consider reusing it first. Glass is a resilient, long-lasting material that is not made to be thrown away after only being used once. 28. What does the passage focus on? A. Glass production. B. Glass restoration. C. Glass prospect. D. Glass recycling. 29. What does the underlined word in the second paragraph probably mean? A. Damage. B. Conservation. C. Assessment. D. Transformation. 30. What can we learn from paragraph 3? A. Glass melting process is complicated. B. Glass reduces environmental footprint. C. Glass items are meant for permanent use. D. Glass production consumes much energy. 31. Why does the author advocate reuse of glass containers? A. To confirm their durability. B. To suggest being economical. C. To promote the green idea. D. To propose a new energy plan. D 29. A 30. D 31. 通读全文,尤其是由文章第一段中“Glass is referred to as a material which can infinitely be recycled without it impacting its quality, purity or durability. (玻璃是一种可以无限回收而不影响其质量、纯度或耐用性的材料。)”、第二段中“When glass is left in the natural environment, it is less likely to cause pollution than plastic. (当玻璃留在自然环境中时,它比塑料更不容易造成污染。)”可知,文章主要讲述了玻璃回收的过程、优点以及存在的问题。因此,文章的重点是玻璃回收。故选D。 【29题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第二段中的““Glass is mainly made of silica, which is a natural substance,” says Franziska Trautmann, the co-founder of Glass Half Full, a New Orleans-based company that recycles glass into sand that can be used for coastal restoration and disaster relief. (“玻璃主要由二氧化硅制成,这是一种天然物质,”新奥尔良公司Glass Half Full的联合创始人Franziska Trautmann说。该公司将玻璃回收成沙子,可用于海岸修复和救灾。)”和“Since it is a natural compound, there is no concern about environmental degradation. (由于它是一种天然化合物,因此无需担心其会造成环境的degradation。)”可知,玻璃主要是由二氧化硅(一种天然物质)制成的,因此不用担心破坏环境。degradation的意思是“破坏”。此处应该是指不用担心环境受到损害,A. Damage损坏,破坏;B. Conservation保护;C. Assessment评估;D. Transformation转型。故选A。 根据第三段中的“However, glass requires higher temperatures than plastic and aluminum to melt and form, says Alice Brock, a PhD researcher at University of Southampton in the UK. 根据文章最后一段中“Even though glass containers can be reused an average of 12-20 times, glass is often treated as single-use. Single-use glass disposed of at landfills can take up to one million years to decompose. So the next time you want to drop a glass bottle, perhaps consider reusing it first. Glass is a resilient, long-lasting material that is not made to be thrown away after only being used once. (尽管玻璃容器平均可以重复使用12-20次,但玻璃通常被视为一次性使用的。被丢弃在垃圾填埋场的一次性玻璃可能需要长达一百万年的时间才能分解。因此,下次当你想要扔掉玻璃瓶时,也许可以考虑先将其重复使用。玻璃是一种坚固耐用的材料,并非仅供一次性使用后就扔掉。)”可知,作者提倡重用玻璃容器是为了推广绿色理念,减少垃圾的产生和环境的污染。故选C。 D Exhausted by the rising cost of living in the United States and non-stop advertisements, some young adults on TikTok are pushing back. “When every moment of your life feels like you are being sold something and the price of that item keeps going up, people will burn out on spending money,” said Kara Perez, an influencer and financial educator. Social media has long showcased picture—perfect homes, luxurious closets and various beauty products. But a new trend, known as “underconsumption core”, is moving in the opposite direction—encouraging more economical lifestyles and prioritizing quality over quantity. For example, many people on social media proudly display their well-worn shoes that have been with them since middle school, along with their commitment to using the last drop of their makeup. Others opt for repurposing old mason jars instead of buying new food storage containers. For a long time, young people in the West have commonly made use of “Buy Now, Pay Later” plans, which have intensified consumption. They have developed a behavior of spending down to their last pound on a fashion item. It is an addiction tied to the pressure “to show who we are through possessions”. However, years of inflation (通货膨胀) have forced many to conclude that they cannot keep up with the spending habits of those on their social media feeds. “The social media trend of ‘underconsumption’ is a way for Gen Z to make the most of their money and be environmentally friendly at the same time,” said Ashley Ross, head of Bank of America. Low-consumption brick-and-mortar (实体的) initiatives attract a broader range of people across different profiles and generations. Anjali Zielinski, 42, joined a “Mending 101” workshop in Georgetown, DC, hoping to acquire new skills. She brought her 7-year-old daughter, Mina, along with her. In addition to providing an outlet for Mina’s creativity, she hopes the craft will teach her daughter the “value of our possessions and the work that goes into them.” But some are still doubtful. It remains to be seen whether “underconsumption core” is simply a mood or a lasting movement. “The lifespan of this trend depends, in many ways, on how long the economy continues to slow and incomes remains below price gains,” Brett House, an economics professor at Columbia Business School, told CNBC. 32. What is the cause of some Americans’ cutting back on spending? A. The commercial activities. B. Their social media feeds. C. Their material satisfaction. D. The economic downturn. 33. What is Brett House’s attitude to the “underconsumption core” trend? A. Doubtful. B. Reserved. C. Objective. D. Disapproving. D 33. B 34. A 35. 根据第四段“However, years of inflation (通货膨胀) have forced many to conclude that they cannot keep up with the spending habits of those on their social media feeds.(然而,多年的通货膨胀迫使许多人得出结论,他们无法跟上社交媒体上那些人的消费习惯。)” 根据第三段“But a new trend, known as “underconsumption core”, is moving in the opposite direction — encouraging more economical lifestyles and prioritizing quality over quantity. For example, many people on social media proudly display their well-worn shoes that have been with them since middle school, along with their commitment to using the last drop of their makeup.(但一种被称为“低消费核心”的新趋势正朝着相反的方向发展——鼓励更经济的生活方式,优先考虑质量而不是数量。例如,许多人在社交媒体上自豪地展示他们从中学就开始穿的破旧鞋子,同时还承诺用掉最后一滴化妆品。)”可知,“低消费核心”的理念是用更少的资源做更多的事情,即Doing more with less,故选B。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“For example, many people on social media proudly display their well-worn shoes that have been with them since middle school, along with their commitment to using the last drop of their makeup. Let’s take a look at some of the myths, mysteries and history of our left-handed friends. ____37____. The belief that left-handed people were witches was widespread in medieval Europe, and they could even be killed. In fact, the word “sinister,” meaning harmful or evil, comes from a Latin word for “on the left side.” Even in the 1960s, American children born left-handed were forced to switch hands when writing. There are also some interesting mysteries concerning right - or left-handed people. The human brain is “cross-wired” with the left brain controlling the right side of the body and vice versa (反之亦然). But one University of Oxford study suggests that, in the brains of left-handed people, the two parts are better connected.____38____. Unfortunately, there are some mental health issues that can especially affect left-handed people. According to a 2013 Yale University study, lefties seem more likely to suffer from schizophrenia (精神分裂症)._____39_____. But other studies have linked the left-handed brain with decidedly creative thinking. Though uncertain, yet with artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, there might be some connection. One area where lefties may have the upper hand is in sports that require quick reaction times. ____40____. Ding Ning, for example, is a left-handed table tennis champion with three Olympic gold medals. But if there is an advantage, it’s probably not a result of some special “lefty magic.” Recent studies show that there seems to be no definite connection being left-handed and athletic capability. In any case, lefties, hold your southpaw high and show the world what you’re made of! A. Altogether, it’s not a shame to be left-handed B. Being left-handed hasn’t always been accepted C. This includes sports like baseball and table tennis D. It is this disease that has led to their being left-handed E. But it’s not the same story for the 10 percent who are left-handed F. Also, studies say that lefties may have an advantage in language learning G. This serious disorder can cause people to hear voices or see things that are not real 【答案】36. E 37. B 38. F 39. G 40. She was very excited and somewhat nervous as well. She hugged her favorite doll tightly. That made her feel better. She boarded the plane and walked down the narrow aisle to find her seat with her parents. A flight attendant smiled at her and asked where they were going. “Walt Disney World,” Anika responded with a smile. “You will have a wonderful time.” The attendant pointed to her name tag. “I’m Leanne. You let me know if you and your pretty doll friend need anything.” “Thanks. I’m Anika, and this is Pansy,” said Anika, holding the doll up to show her. Leanne stroked Pansy and left to attend to other passengers. The flight was going to be quite a long time. Anika read a book with Pansy and did some puzzles her mother had packed for the trip. Soon she was getting sort of tired. Anika’s mom suggested her taking a nap. They asked Leanne for a blanket. “It should keep you warm and cozy,” Leanne said. “Night-night!” She winked at the young girl. Anika tucked Pansy under the blanket with her. Soon, she fell asleep against her father’s shoulder. The plane touched down in Florida and Anika was woken up. Her parents collected the luggage and headed to the exit. Anika followed, not quite awake yet. At the door, Leanne waved them goodbye. All passengers had left and Leanne began to gather blankets from the seats. Under one blanket, she was surprised to find a doll. She picked it up and recognized it was Pansy. She thought about catching up with the family, but soon she dismissed the idea, for it was too late. She just hoped to connect with the little girl again in some way. Then she put away Pansy for safe keeping. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: When the family arrived at the hotel, Anika suddenly remembered Pansy. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: They boarded the plane and Anika was surprised to see Leanne again. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 When the family arrived at the hotel, Anika suddenly remembered Pansy. She gasped and frantically checked her suitcase and backpack. Pansy wasn’t there. “Mom! Dad! Pansy! She is still on the plane!” Tears welled up in her eyes as images of the doll lying abandoned on the plane filled her mind. “Pansy will be OK and she will probably turn up somehow.” Her parents tried to comfort her. In the week to follow, Anika got her first glimpse of the Disney World. She enjoyed nearly every minute of it. Cinderella’s castle, the thrilling rides, …, all fascinated her. But every day, at bedtime, Anika got sad. How she wished Pansy could experience all the wonders together with her. When the vacation came to an end, the family packed up and headed to the airport. They boarded the plane and Anika was surprised to see Leanne again. “Leanne!” she exclaimed, her face lighting up. The flight attendant turned and smiled warmly. “Anika, I was hoping to see you again,” she responded. All the passengers seated, Leanne made her way over to Anika. “I have somebody here who missed you very much!” Leanne said, holding up Pansy. Anika, her eyes widening, let out a joyful cry. She sprang up from her seat and hugged both Pansy and Leanne tightly. The next moment, Anika dived into her backpack and took out two souvenirs, one for Pansy and the other for Leanne. The reunion brought tears to the parents’ eyes. Leanne moved on, leaving Anika cuddling Pansy and sharing all her beautiful stories in the Disney World. 词汇激活 行为类 ①检查:check/examine ②出现:turn up/show up ③拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①悲伤的:sad/sorrowful ②高兴:joyful/glad 【点睛】[高分句型1] When the vacation came to an end, the family packed up and headed to the airport. Fighting the Currents C Glass is referred to as a material which can infinitely be recycled without it impacting its quality, purity or durability. D Exhausted by the rising cost of living in the United States and non-stop advertisements, some young adults on TikTok are pushing back. 33. What is the philosophy of “underconsumption core”? A. Spending money as you like. B. Doing more with less. C. Keeping up with the Joneses. D. Buy Now, Pay Later. 34. How does the author tell us the trend’s popularity among people? A. By giving examples. B. By making comparisons. C. By listing numbers. D. By citing research data. 35. What is Brett House’s attitude to the “underconsumption core” trend? A. Doubtful. B. Reserved. C. Objective. D. Disapproving. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 About 90 percent of the world’s population doesn’t need to think about which hand to use when picking up a pair of scissors. ____36____. Let’s take a look at some of the myths, mysteries and history of our left-handed friends. ____37____. The belief that left-handed people were witches was widespread in medieval Europe and they could even be killed. It would be her first time on an airplane. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: When the family arrived at the hotel Anika suddenly remembered Pansy. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: They boarded the plane and Anika was surprised to see Leanne again. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
