(2024·广东广州·中考真题)
I don’t believe it! I’m still sitting here writing my paper. I’ve had two weeks to prepare and write it and I need to hand it in tomorrow. A month ago, I made a decision to never leave things to the last minute. Well, I’ve failed. I’ve also been trying to go running to get fitter with my classmates after school for four weeks. But I really feel it’s difficult to follow my plan now. Why is it so hard to break a bad habit and form a good one?
I’ve just read an article and I’ve discovered that it isn’t my problem! In fact, it’s our brains. Our brains are programmed to make it difficult to break bad habits. Research shows when we do something the same way repeatedly, our brain notices. It’s just like, “Oh, writing a paper is hard. We still have time. We can relax for now? Got it!” If we always do things like that, we get “into the habit” of leaving things to the last minute. We may even get a reward (奖励) from this bad habit, at least at first. Our brain may say, “Ah, relaxation! I like this!” Slowly, it seems that we can’t stop doing the habit or control it. Maybe it’s because we don’t know how to get the rewards without doing it.
But that’s not all. Scientists have also discovered that it takes ten weeks to form a good habit. That’s because ten weeks is the amount of time the brain needs to change and accept a new habit as part of everyday life. The good news is that once you make it to ten weeks, everything becomes a lot easier. The bad news is that ten weeks is a really long time, so you may give up your plan sooner.
So there you are. Maybe we want to change our ways and become better people, but our brains won’t let us. Or is this just an excuse? Look—I’ve finished my paper on time! Anything is possible!

My friend keeps copying my look, but I like looking special. What should I do?—Ann
The important thing is to tell your friend the truth without hurting her feelings. To do that, you can talk to her using kind words and not feeling angry. You can offer her your advice on popular dressing or even suggest wearing clothes that go together. This way you’ll still look like each other, but not twins!
My room is always messy.
No matter what I do, I can’t keep it clean!—Mike
Here are some great ways to make your room a bit tidier. Start by picking up things you don’t use or want anymore. You can give them away to those in need. Less things means less mess! Then, try to make it a habit to put away things after you use them. Done with your sports shoes for the day? Back where they should be. Finally, set a timer for five minutes each night to clean any mess!
I’m sad because I have to go to a summer camp.
I just want to have a summer like my friends. Help me out!—Jessie
We’re sorry you’re feeling this way! The best thing to do is to look at things on the bright side. There, a new group of kids will become your friends. They’ll know exactly how you feel and help you. What’s more, going to a summer camp doesn’t mean a terrible summer. You’ll still have fun in the sun with your friends. The only question is, what are you guys going to do together?

(2023·广东广州·三模)Doctors recommend that kids spend most of their time being active outdoors and playing with their parents. However, that doesn’t mean TV has to be taken out of their family life. There are several educational TV shows that help your children learn before and after they enter school. Take a look at these four TV shows that your kids should watch.
Based on a classic children’s book series by Marc Brown. Arthur is about an eight-year-old boy named Arthur from Elwood City. He has to deal with several situations that many children face today. For example, the show explores several health-related and social problems, such as cancer and other disabilities. The stories, along with the song Believe in Yourself, teach kids how to deal with these problems and accept everyone. Arthur has been aired on PBS since 1996.
What kid doesn’t like a superhero? Well, Super Why! has four of them: Alpha Pig with Alphabet Power, Princess Presto with Spelling Power, Wonder Red with Word Power, and Super Why with the Power to Read. This TV show teaches kids how to put letters together to make words and how to pronounce words when reading. It’s great for kids from the preschool to second grade. Super Why! has been aired on PBS and PBS Kids Sprout since 2008.
Based on the railway series books by Reverend Wilbert Awdry. Thomas and Friends follows the story of locomotive(火车头) friends who live on Sodor Island. There are large engines and small engines. It teaches kids to accept others for who they are and always do their best in everything. After all, the popular word of the show is “I think I can.” Thomas and Friends has been aired since 1984. However, the show was totally redone in 2003 by ITV.
As one of the longest children’s shows on TV, Sesame Street is still a favorite with parents. It teaches kids about sharing, being a good friend, and other important values. Additionally, words and letters are introduced through scenes and songs with favorite characters like Elmo, Big Bird, Zoey, and Cookie Monster. You probably enjoy watching this show as a kid, and your children can too. Sesame Street has been aired on PBS since 1969.

(2023·广东广州·一模)Growing Potato Plants
Things prepared:
a potato that has sprouts
a flower pot with soil
a camera to record progress
Observation:
Day One
The color of the soil looks darker because I have just watered it. In the center of the pot, I can see a tiny sprout that has grown from the potato under the soil. I’ll call it Buddy. Buddy is green and yellow. I wonder how fast it will grow.
Day Six
Without much change in the past six days, I finally see some new progress on Buddy as it has grown taller. It’s exciting to see new life like this. I hope Buddy can grow faster.
Day Eleven
Buddy is getting larger! Three more new sprouts have grown around Buddy! Green leaves have grown on the new sprouts, but they have not fully grown yet. I guess I need to be a bit more patient.
Day Thirteen
Buddy continues to grow taller. The leaves on the new sprouts have grown a bit. I’m also glad to see more new sprouts that have grown from under the soil.
Day Fifteen
Finally, the leaves on the other sprouts are 3cm tall. They’re so green. I hope they will soon grow into new potatoes.
What I have learned:
It’s really great to grow potatoes. During these fifteen days, I have learned that growing potato plants needs plenty of water. If the soil is dry, the potato won’t grow. The temperature needs to be right. If it is too cold, it won’t grow, either.

Dear Students,
The end of our 2021—2022 school year is just over a few days away. This year seems to have gone by very quickly, while parts of the year seemed to pass very slowly. Although we have faced many difficulties, thank you for walking hand-in-hand with us to meet every challenge with confidence.
Some days were spent staying at home and surfing the Internet due to COVID-19. Your parents have worked tirelessly, and your teachers have also made great strides and efforts as a team. Because of the close cooperation between home and school, you, our MD students are still learning happily and effectively. You have now come to realize that not everything in life is certain, and understand the need to adapt to constant changes. While finding a way to solve difficulties, you have developed your resilience and strength of character through experience. I believe that after these years of uncertainty and struggle, you will become stronger and know not to take anything for granted. Everyone has built a more optimistic and positive attitude to confront the challenges of life. Greater the gains than that lost!
The most important aspect of our school curriculum is not information about the subject content, but the cultivation of attitude and character. As long as the spirit of inquiry, enthusiasm for learning, and the ability to think flexibly are maintained, every learning challenge can be more easily overcome. This is our shared belief and the key to success in learning!
The past 3 years have witnessed the growth of you, with a balanced emphasis on moral and academic development. We, MD teachers, look forward to seeing everyone will gain your success in the High School Entrance Exam, and in the future, you all will contribute to building China our motherland great again. After these 3 years of learning, studying and growing together happily, long into the future may these precious memories continue!

Hi Jenna,
I have a couple of questions about the party that I was hoping you could answer. First, is there a maximum number of tickets per person? I’m living in a house with five roommates, and we’d like to go together. So, I’d like a total of six tickets, but if that’s more than the maximum allowed for one person, I understand completely. I’ll put down six for now, but you can just send me the maximum number of tickets (if six is too many) . As for my second question: Are there any vegetarian options available? I couldn’t find any info on the bar’s website. Would it be possible to send me a copy of the menu? I appreciate any help you can give me with this. The requested info is below. Thanks!
Name: Heather Sanders

(广州中考真题+中考模拟)
By Ana

3.How many more weeks will it take Ana to develop her habit of running after school?

A.You’d better finish your paper on time. B.Don’t forget to make a plan beforehand.

1.(写作对象)Who might be most interested in reading this passage?
A.Young sports lovers. B.Teenagers in need of help.

I feel that growing plants is just like trying to succeed with anything in life. It takes not only time, but also lots of efforts and patience.

3.What has the writer learned ftom the experiment?

Thanks!
