Dad, Mom, Harry and I moved to Tianjin on 25 August. We’re not very far from Beijing. Two days ago, we celebrated my 1Sth birthday. It was great celebrating in China; the only thing that was strange was the cake-here they’re not as sweet as the ones in Now York. On Monday school starts-I wonder what it will be like. Monday, 1 September On my first day I was looking around for a locker to put my books in. However, here all the students keep all of their books at their desks because apparently we stay in the same classroom and we don’t have to go from class to class. Teachers come to us! Today we selected teacher assistants for each subject. Their duties are to collect homework, make announcements, and do other stuff for the teachers and the students. It is kind of a big deal here! Since I am from the US, I was asked to be the English assistant. I felt so proud but quite nervous at the same time because I wasn’t sure what I had to do, but I accepted the job anyway. 1. How did the author feel before school started? A. Worried. B. Calm. C. Proud. D. Curious. 2. What does paragraph 1 of the second diary focus on? A. Subjects at school. B. Good learning environment. C. School culture differences. D. Impression of the new school. 3. What does the underlined word “It” refer to? A. Collecting homework. B. Selecting teacher assistants. C. Making announcements. D. The job of being the English assistant. B You may be surprised to learn that English gets 30 to 45 percent of its words from French. The reason goes back to the year 1066, when Norman forces invaded (入侵) Britain. The Normans were from northern France and spoke French. During the Norman occupation, French became the language of England’s rulers and wealthy class. This lasted for more than 300 years. Other people in England continued to speak English during this period. Over time, the two languages combined and shared words. Some researchers believe that about 10,000 French words eventually entered the English language. However, although English took many French words, their meanings have not always stayed the same. Sometimes the differences in meanings can be very important, and lead to funny or strange situations if the words are used in the wrong way. Take the French word college for example. In English, college can often be used in place of the word university, or sometimes as a school within a university. However, in French, college actually means “middle school”, or the level of schooling for students in grades five or six through eight. There are many other similar words in the two languages with completely different meanings. In English, the word chat means “to talk casually (随意)”; but in French, the word chat is the word for an animal: a cat. If an English speaker says someone is jolly, that means he is cheerful or friendly. But in French, jolie means someone is good-looking or pleasant to look at. In any case, both are nice things to say to someone. 4. What is the purpose of the first paragraph? A. To show the influence of the Normans on England. B. To present the relationship between Britain and France. C. To introduce how English and French combined together. D. To explain why so many French words entered the English language. 5. What does the author stress about similar words in English and French? A. Their funny stories. B. Their changes in history. C. Their spelling forms. D. Their different meanings. 6. What does an Englishman mean if he says he’d like to have a chat? A. He likes a kind of pet. B. He wants to have a small talk. C. He prefers to talk in public. D. He’d like to have an interview. 7. What is the text mainly about? A. Development of English. B. Difficulties in learning English. C. French words in English. D. Similarities between English and French. C I believe in the power of science fiction (科幻小说), not just because it can change dreams into reality, but also because it can bond (建立亲密关系) together those who share a common view of the future. For me, that’s true for my relationship with my dad. Some fathers and sons bond over sports, fishing or hunting, but my dad and I bond over Star Trek. We took a trip to Disney World, but one of my earliest memories wasn’t Mickey, but a Klingon battle cruiser (巡洋舰) on the screen. Over the years, when it’s warm at night, my dad and I will walk at a slow speed along the streets with stars shining above. Both of us are thinking of them, without needing to say a word. All these imaginations of other universes (宇宙) have together created a private universe for my dad and me. Gene Roddenberry, creator of Star Trek, once said, “Science fiction is a way of thinking. It allows people to look directly at important subjects.” A lifetime of science fiction has influenced more than just my relationship with my dad, but has also helped me shape my own hopes for the future. I’m now a science writer. Yes, science fiction has been a source of joy for my family. Thank those authors who have shared their views; the world and my family are better for it. Thank my dad, who is both the best storyteller and the best man I have ever known because he helped me realize the truth of Tennyson’s words, “Since I dipped into the future, I saw the vision of the world, and all the wonders that would be.” 8. What is the special bond between the author and his father? A. The same career. B. The common interest. C. The similar dream. D. The love for Mickey Mouse. 9. What does the underlined word “them” refer to in Paragraph 2? A. Stars. B. Battle cruisers. C. Streets. D. Our private universes. 10. How has science fiction helped the author? A. It has led him to his career. B. It has given him the courage to live better. C. It has helped him become the best storyteller. D. It has made him a source of joy for his family. 11. What may be the best title for the text? A. The wonders of science. B. The time together with my father. C. The power of science fiction. D. The relationship between my dad and me. D Letting parts of your garden grow wild with long grass can increase butterfly numbers and attract a wider range of species, according to a new research form leading wildlife charity Butterfly Conservation (保护). The study of six years of butterfly sightings across 600 British gardens has provided proof that wilder grass increases their numbers. The benefits (好处) of leaving areas of grass long were most obvious in gardens within farmed areas, with up to 93% more butterflies found. Gardens with long grass in city areas showed an 18% increase. “Nature is in crisis; 80% of the population of butterflies has fallen since the 1970s, so we need to take action now to protect them. We want to be able to give tried and tested gardening advice that will benefit butterflies, as we know lots of people want to help, ”said Dr Richard Fox, a co-author of the study. Butterfly Conservation is calling for everyone to create their own Wild Space, no matter how big or small, to help butterflies survive. Through its Wild Spaces programme, the charity aims to change 100,000 areas across the UK to help support butterfly populations. Dr Fox said, “The simple act of creating wild spaces by allowing a patch of grass to grow long is free and easy to do, and can significantly increase butterfly numbers. The benefits of each individual wild space are small, but if thousands of people get involved, the increase of butterflies could be huge. ” “Whether you have a large garden, a small patch of grass, a community or school space, or a window box, anyone, anywhere can help,” said Dr Fox. 12. Why are so many numbers listed in paragraph 2? A. To show the challenges of the study. B. To stress the importance of the study. C. To make the study findings more believable. D. To praise the scientists for their working spirit. 13. What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A. The purpose of the study. B. The situation of butterflies. C. The tested gardening advice. D. The measures to protect butterflies. 14 Which of the following does Dr Fox agree with according to the text? A. Governments’ support is the key to butterflies’ protection. B. The role each individual plays in protecting butterflies is little. C. Letting grass grow long is easy and helpful for bringing more butterflies. D. Human activity is the main reason why the number of butterflies is falling. 15. In which section of a magazine is this text most likely to appear? A. Feature. B. News. C. Opinion. D. With just 700 meters to go, Alistair Brownlee was in third place and his younger brother Jonny, was in the lead. Alistair pushed himself towards the finish line in the burning heat, but as he came round the corner, he saw his brother about to fall onto the track. Alistair had to choose - brotherly love, or a chance to win the race? For Alistair, the choice was clear. His brother was in trouble. He had to help. Alistair ran towards Jonny, caught him and started pulling him towards the finish line. Alistair then pushed his brother over the line. The move put Jonny in second place and Alistair himself in third. It was an unexpected end to the race, but Alistair didn’t want to discuss it with the media. He just wanted to see his younger brother, who had been rushed to the medical area. The Brownlee brothers have been doing triathlons since they were children. “Obviously, when your older brother is doing it, you think it’s a cool thing to do,” says Jonny. Alistair says that they encourage each other as much as they can when they train. Despite arguments over “stupid things” now and then, Alistair agrees that having a brother is an advantage. “Throughout my entire life, I’ve had my brother trying to beat me at everything I do. It has been an enormously positive force. ” Watched by millions, the ending to the race has divided opinions: should the brothers have been disqualified or highly praised for their actions? But for Alistair, his decision was easy to explain: “Mum wouldn’t have been happy if I’d left Jonny behind.” At that moment, he was no longer an athlete aiming for a medal - he was just a brother. 52. Since this text is a feature story, what is the purpose of the first paragraph? ____________________________________________________________ 53. C. School culture differences. D. Impression of the new school. 3. What does the underlined word “It” refer to? A Collecting homework. B. Selecting teacher assistants. C. Making announcements. D. The job of being the English assistant. D 2. C 3. 根据文章第一段“On Monday school starts-I wonder what it will be like.(星期一就要开学了——我想知道会是什么样子。)” 根据文章第二段“On my first day I was looking around for a locker to put my books in. However, here all the students keep all of their books at their desks because apparently we stay in the same classroom and we don’t have to go from class to class. Teachers come to us!(在第一天,我到处找放书的柜子。然而,在这里,所有的学生都把书放在课桌上,因为我们显然待在同一个教室里,我们不必从一个教室走到另一个教室。老师来找我们!)”可知,在中国学校,学生不需要换教室,老师会到教室里来上课,这与作者之前可能经历的学校生活有所不同,体现了学校之间的文化差异,由此可知,第二篇日记的第一段主要讲的是学校文化差异。故选C。 【3题详解】 词句猜测题。根据上文“Today we selected teacher assistants for each subject. Their duties are to collect homework, make announcements, and do other stuff for the teachers and the students.(今天我们为每门课选了课代表。他们的职责是收集作业、发布通知,以及为老师和学生们做其他事情。)和划线词所在的句子“这在这里是一件大事”,推断出“It”指的是前面提到的“为每门课选课代表”这件事情,因为紧接着作者说“这在这里是一件大事”。因此,选项B“Selecting teacher assistants(选课代表)”是正确的。故选B。 B You may be surprised to learn that English gets 30 to 45 percent of its words from French. The reason goes back to the year 1066, when Norman forces invaded (入侵) Britain. The Normans were from northern France and spoke French. 【答案】4. D 5. D 6. B 7. 【答案】8. B 9. A 10. 14. Which of the following does Dr Fox agree with according to the text? A. Feature. B. News. C. Opinion. D. In my opinion, ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 We often hear that friendship is like a small boat that can be turned over easily. In my opinion friendship is much more resilient and profound than that simplistic metaphor suggests. True friendship is built on a foundation of mutual trust, understanding, and respect. From my own experience, a genuine and lasting friendship is one where you can be your true self without fear of judgment. My best friend and I, despite living in different cities, stay close through regular calls and shared memories, proving that distance is no barrier for a bond that’s truly special. In essence, true friendship is a treasure worth nurturing, for it enriches our lives and makes our journey through this world a little more bearable and a lot more joyful. 【解析】 【导语】本篇书面表达属于开放性作文。要求考生结合自身经历写一篇英语短文在英语课上和同学们分享。 【详解】1.词汇积累 害怕:fear→afraid 尽管:despite→in spite of 障碍:barrier→obstacle 本质上:in essence→in nature 2.句式拓展 合并句子 原句:In my opinion, friendship is much more resilient and profound than that simplistic metaphor suggests. 52. With just 700 meters to go, Alistair Brownlee was in third place and his younger brother Jonny, was in the lead. Alistair pushed himself towards the finish line in the burning heat, but as he came round the corner, he saw his brother about to fall onto the track. Alistair had to choose - brotherly love, or a chance to win the race?(这是2016年墨西哥世界铁人三项系列赛的最后一部分。 To get/attract the interest/attention of readers. /To get/attract readers’ interest/attention. 根据文章第二段“For Alistair, the choice was clear. He just wanted to see his younger brother, who had been rushed to the medical area.(对阿利斯泰尔来说,选择很清楚。 Alistair’s choice./What Alistair did when his brother was in trouble./How Alistair helped his brother./Alistair helped his younger brother to finish the race.” 根据文章第三段提到“Alistair says that they encourage each other as much as they can when they train. Despite arguments over ‘stupid things’ now and then, Alistair agrees that having a brother is an advantage. ‘Throughout my entire life, I’ve had my brother trying to beat me at everything I do. It has been an enormously positive force.’(阿利斯泰尔说,他们在训练时尽可能地互相鼓励。 Because he thinks having a brother trying to beat him at everything he does is/has been an enormously positive force on him. /Because he thinks having a brother trying to compete with him is/has been an enormously positive force on him. 根据文章最后一段“Watched by millions, the ending to the race has divided opinions: should the brothers have been disqualified or highly praised for their actions?(数百万人观看了这场比赛,对比赛结果的看法产生了分歧:这对兄弟是应该被取消资格还是应该因为他们的行为而受到高度赞扬?)” Some think the brothers should be/have been disqualified while others think they should be highly praised for their actions. From the story, I can learn that family bonds and love are more important than personal achievements or victories.
