National Parks are the best places to see raw nature in protected areas, where the wildlife is free and the history is kept alive properly, such is the case of all national parks in Australia.
The Booderee National Park
It offers a protected habitat (栖息地) for native wildlife against high cliffs and white beaches. While summer is good for visiting due to the excellent weather, a special event takes place in June and July when whales come back with their babies. Educational tours are fit for school groups to get close to nature. There are a range of activities such as camping, diving and nature walks.
The Norfolk Island National Park
The history of the Park is eye-catching, so you might want to check out how Captain James Cook got here and why. You can picnic and have a nice barbecue around the highest point on the island, Mount Bates. Another tourist attraction is Phillip Island, six kilometers away from Norfolk, home to many seabirds.
The Uluru National Park
If you’re into learning more about Aboriginals (土著居民) and their influence on the world, you mustn’t miss it, where Tjukurpa stories come from about native songs and dances. The rocks here are extremely loved because they seem to change color during sunrise and sunset. So the spot is also great for walking, considering the knowledge and stories on the rocks’ shapes and purpose for humans.
The Kakadu National Park
It has the longest historical records of Aboriginal people living there, which have been carved in the rock art made by Indigenous civilizations over the years. The Park has remarkable rivers and floodplains that go through the rich ecosystem. With more than 280 species of birds, 117 reptile species and 74 mammals, the park is a joy to the eye of the traveler.
1. What makes the Booderee National Park special?
A. Whales’ return. B. Nature walks. C. Wildlife habitat. D. Educational tours.
2. Where can you learn about Captain James Cook?
A. The Uluru National Park. B. The Kakadu National Park.
C. The Booderee National Park. D. The Norfolk Island National Park.
3. What do the Uluru National Park and the Kakadu National Park have in common?
A. Rock colors. B. Rock shapes. C. Native culture. D. Rich wildlife.

My wife Laura and I were on the beach, with three of our children, taking pictures of shore birds near our home in Alaska when we spotted a bear. The bear was thin and small, moving aimlessly.
Just a few minutes later, I heard my daughter shouting, “Dad! The bear is right behind us!” An aggressive bear will usually rush forward to frighten away its enemy but would suddenly stop at the last minute. This one was silent and its ears pinned back—the sign of an animal that is going in for the kill. And it was a cold April day. The bear behaved abnormally, probably because of hunger.
I held my camera tripod (三脚架) in both hands to form a barrier as the bear rushed into me. Its huge head was level with my chest and shoulders, and the tripod stuck across its mouth. It bit down and I found myself supporting its weight. I knew I would not be able to hold it for long.
Even so, this was a fight I had to win: I was all that stood between the bear and my family, who would stand little chance of running faster than a brown bear.
The bear hit at the camera, cutting it off the tripod. I raised my left arm to protect my face; the beast held tightly on the tripod and pressed it into my side. My arm could not move, and I sensed that my bones were going to break.
Drawing back my free hand, I struck the bear as hard as I could for five to six times. The bear opened its mouth and I grasped its fur, trying to push it away. I was actually wrestling (扭打) with the bear at this point. Then, as suddenly as it had begun, the fight ended. The bear moved back toward the forest, before returning for another attack. The first time I felt panic. Apparently satisfied that we caused no further threat, the bear moved off, destroying a fence as it went. My arm was injured, but the outcome for us could hardly have been better. I’m proud that my family remained clear-headed when panic could have led to a very different outcome.
4. The whole text is mainly arranged in .
A. result and inference B. cause and effect
C. space order D. time order
5. When did the bear finally go away?
A. After it felt safe.
B. After it got injured.
C. After it found some food.
D. After it took away the camera.
6. The writer and his family survived mainly due to their .
A. calmness B. patience
C. pride D. cautiousness
7. When the bear moved back towards the forest, how did the family feel?
A. Excited. B. Threatened.
C. Relieved. D. Puzzled.
D 5. A 6. A 7. C

When you think about who’s responsible for a city’s safety, what people come to mind? Police officers, firefighters or emergency response teams? Would you put your local meteorologist (气象预报员) in this group? That’s the career Ashley Ruiz chose, and she’s now the first female chief meteorologist in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ruiz predicts the weather for her community.
In 2020, a tornado hit Ruiz’s hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee — and, even closer to home, her house. So she said she knew what a lifesaving job this could be.
However, her job isn’t without difficulties. “Hearing people have been injured, like in a big hurricane, is really hard,” she said. “We try our best to predict the weather as best as we can, and we are getting better. But it can always change.”
Ruiz talked about the new and changing weather patterns. She said, “We are absolutely seeing changes in weather, with more intense and more frequent storms, which relate to climate change.” Weather is changing everywhere, as the planet warms. There are more frequent droughts, stronger storms, and increasing temperature changes. This makes predicting the weather difficult.
Ruiz always knew she was interested in weather and how it affected the world. But her path to a career in meteorology wasn’t easy. She said, “I struggled so hard with math and wanted to give up. But I kept pushing and working hard, and now I’m the first woman chief meteorologist in the Baton Rouge TV market. I’m proud of that.” She wants kids to know they should never give up on their education or their dreams.
8. Why was the disaster in Ruiz’s hometown mentioned in the text?
A. To call on people to prepare for disasters.
B. To introduce Ruiz’s unusual childhood experience.
C. To offer a successful example of weather forecast.
D. To show Ruiz’s understanding of the work of a meteorologist.
9. What is a challenge of predicting the weather according to the text?
A. Climate change. B. People’s injury.
C. Poor technology. D. Lack of experience.
10. Which word can best describe Ruiz according to the last paragraph?
A. Creative. B. Clever. C. Hard-working. D. World-famous.
11. In which section of a newspaper may the text appear?
A. Sports. B. People. C. Education. D. Health.
D 9. A 10. C 11. B

So she said she knew what a lifesaving job this could be.(2020年,一场龙卷风袭击了Ruiz位于田纳西州查塔努加家乡——甚至离她家更近的地方。
根据文章第四段“Ruiz talked about the new and changing weather patterns. She said, “We are absolutely seeing changes in weather, with more intense and more frequent storms, which relate to climate change.” Weather is changing everywhere, as the planet warms. There are more frequent droughts, stronger storms, and increasing temperature changes. This makes predicting the weather difficult.( Ruiz谈到了新的和变化中的天气模式。她说:“我们绝对看到了天气的变化,风暴更加剧烈和频繁,这与气候变化有关。”随着地球变暖,天气到处都在变化。干旱更频繁,风暴更猛烈,气温变化更大。这使得预测天气变得困难。)”可知,气候变化使得天气变得更加难以预测,因此是预测天气的一个挑战。故选A。
Ruiz always knew she was interested in weather and how it affected the world. But her path to a career in meteorology wasn’t easy. D
I was born with a disability (残疾). When I started to go to school, my classmates were always teasing about it. I told them I’d fallen as a baby and cut my lips on a piece of glass. Somehow it seemed more acceptable to have suffered an accident than to have been born different. By seven, I was sure no one outside my own family could ever love me or even like me.
And then I entered the second grade, and Mrs. Leonard’s class. She was round, pretty and sweet, with shining brown hair and warm, smiling dark eyes. Everyone loved her. But no one came to love her more than I did.
The time came for the annual hearing tests given at our school. I was hardly able to hear anything out of one ear, and wasn’t about to show yet another problem that would single me out as different. So I cheated.
During the hearing tests, each child would go to the door of the classroom, turn sideways, close one ear with a finger, and the teacher would whisper something from her desk, which the child would repeat. Then the same thing was done for the other ear. I had discovered in kindergarten that nobody checked to see if the untested ear was being fully covered, so I only pretended to block mine.
My turn came. I knew from previous years that the teacher whispered things like “The sky is blue.” or “Do you have new shoes?” I turned my bad ear to her, covering the other with my finger, and gently backed my finger out enough to be able to hear. I waited, and then came the seven words that changed my life forever: “I wish you were my little girl.”
12. What does the underlined phrase “teasing about” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Looking into. B. Caring about. C. Arguing over. D. Laughing at.
13. Why did the author worry about the hearing test?
A. She didn’t want to make her disability public.
B. She couldn’t understand the teacher’s words.
C. She was afraid to make mistakes in the test.
D. She didn’t want to disappoint Mrs. Leonard.
14. What can we know about what Mrs. Leonard said?
A. It made the girl very discouraged. B. It proved the girl cheated in the test.
C. It made a huge difference to the girl. D. It embarrassed the girl immediately.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. A Hearing Test Upsetting a Girl B. Seven Words Changing a Girl’s Life
C. A Strict Primary School Teacher D. Clever Ways to Pass a Hearing Test
D 13. A 14. C 15. B
根据文章第一段“I was born with a disability (残疾).(我生来就有残疾。)”
根据文章第三段“I was hardly able to hear anything out of one ear, and wasn’t about to show yet another problem that would single me out as different.(我的一只耳朵几乎听不见什么声音,我也不会再表现出另一个让我与众不同的问题。)” 故选A项。
根据文章最后一段“I waited, and then came the seven words that changed my life forever: “I wish you were my little girl.”(我等待着,然后出现了那永远改变了我生活的七个字:“我希望你是我的小女孩”)”可知,Mrs.
根据文章第一段“By seven, I was sure no one outside my own family could ever love me or even like me.(到7岁时,我确信除了我自己的家庭,没有人会爱我,甚至喜欢我。)”以及第二段“And then I entered the second grade, and Mrs. Leonard’s class. She was round, pretty and sweet, with shining brown hair and warm, smiling dark eyes. Everyone loved her. But no one came to love her more than I did.(然后我上了二年级,Mrs. Leonard的班级。她身材圆润,漂亮,可爱,有着闪亮的棕色头发和温暖而微笑的黑眼睛。每个人都爱她。但没有人比我更爱她了。)”及最后一段“I waited, and then came the seven words that changed my life forever: “I wish you were my little girl.”(我等待着,然后出现了那永远改变了我生活的七个字:“我真希望你是我的小女孩。)”可知整篇文章主要讲的是原本作者的残疾让作者在家人之外感受不到温暖,但是听力测试中老师的七个字却让作者的生活有了改变,由此可知,B项“Seven Words Changing a Girl’s Life(改变一个女孩一生的七个字)”最适合做文章标题。故选B项。
第二节(共5小题, 每小题2. 5分, 共12. 5分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
With one and half years of senior school to go, you’re probably experiencing a mix of emotions: excitement about what the future holds, and maybe anxiety about how to handle the coming exams. Don’t worry! Here are a few things that will help you get through the rest of your senior school.
____16____ This means setting up a system that works for you to keep track of important dates, assignments, and deadlines. This can be as simple as using a planner. In this way, you can stay on top of your work and avoid any last- minute hurry.
Manage your time wisely. Learn to balance your academic tasks with extracurricular and social activities. ____17____ For example, you might dedicate Mondays to Thursdays to homework, Fridays to extracurricular activities, and Saturdays to sports and hanging out with friends. Whatever system you choose, just ensure it works for you and helps you stay on track.
Keep your grades up. Letting your grades slip during the senior year can be easy. To avoid this, create a study schedule that allows you to focus on one subject at a time. Meanwhile, do ask for help from your teachers and parents if you’re struggling with a particular concept. ____18____
Set goals, not time limits. Most people set time limits on their goals, such as “I’ll finish reviewing this book by Friday!” or something like that. ____19____ So just focus on the goal, not the timeframe. For example, rather than saying you’ll finish reviewing one book by Friday, focus on what you need to do to make that happen.
Embrace your passions and start exploring potential careers. Think about what subjects you enjoy most and what courses you’re passionate about. From there, research potential careers that are in line with your interests. ____20____ The more you know about a particular career, the better equipped you’ll be to decide your future.
A. Give back.
B. Get organized.
C. Step outside your comfort zone and try new things.
D. They are there to support you and want you to succeed.
E. It’s a good idea to set specific days or hours for each task.
F And reach out to people in those fields for advice and guidance.
G. Putting pressure on yourself to meet these deadlines can be stressful.
B 17. E 18. D 19. G 20. F

根据后文“This means setting up a system that works for you to keep track of important dates, assignments, and deadlines. This can be as simple as using a planner. In this way, you can stay on top of your work and avoid any last- minute hurry.(这意味着你要建立一个系统来记录重要的日期、任务和截止日期。这就像使用计划表一样简单。这样,你就能掌握你的工作,避免最后一分钟的匆忙)”可知,本段的主旨是强调要有条理,有目标,故B选项“有条理”符号语境。故选B。
【17题详解】
根据后文“For example, you might dedicate Mondays to Thursdays to homework, Fridays to extracurricular activities, and Saturdays to sports and hanging out with friends.(例如,你可以在周一到周四做作业,周五做课外活动,周六做运动和和朋友出去玩)”可知,后文的例子表明每天的活动都要有具体的安排,平衡好学习和课外、社交生活,明智的管理时间。
根据上文“Meanwhile, do ask for help from your teachers and parents if you’re struggling with a particular concept.(同时,如果你在某个概念上有困难,一定要向老师和父母寻求帮助)”可知,本句承接上文,说明老师和父母的作用。D选项中的they指的是your teachers and parents,他们一直在那儿支持你并希望你成功。
根据上文“Set goals, not time limits. Most people set time limits on their goals, such as “I’ll finish reviewing this book by Friday!” or something like that.(设定目标,而不是时间限制。大多数人都为自己的目标设定了时间限制,比如“我要在周五之前完成这本书的复习!”诸如此类的话)”以及后文“So just focus on the goal, not the timeframe.(所以只关注目标,而不是时间框架)”可知,本段主旨为段落首句,要设定目标而不是设定时间界限。空格与其后一句构成因果关系,强调给自己施加压力赶上截止日期是有压力的。G选项“在截止日期前给自己施加压力是有压力的”符合语境。故选G。
【20题详解】
根据上文“Embrace your passions and start exploring potential careers. Think about what subjects you enjoy most and what courses you’re passionate about. 第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
George’s mother was very poor and was sick. Instead of having bright fires in winter, she had nothing to burn but dry sticks, which George picked up from under the trees.
One fine day in July, his sick mother sent him to the woods. He was to stay there all day, to get as much wood as he could collect.
It was a bright, sunny day, and George worked very hard, so by the time the sun was high, he was hot, and wished for a cool place where he might rest and have his meal. While he hunted for a place on the bank he saw among the grass some fine and wild strawberries (草莓).
“How good these will be with my bread and butter!” thought George. He set to work eagerly to gather all he could find, and then seated himself by the river.
It was a pleasant place, and George felt happy and satisfied. He thought how much his sick mother would like to see him there, and to be there herself, instead of in her dark room in the village.
George thought of all this, and just as he was putting the first strawberry to his mouth, he said to himself, “How much Mum would like these!” So he stopped, and put the strawberry back again.
“Shall I save them for her?” he said, thinking how much they would happy her, yet still looking at them with a longing eye.
“I will eat half, and take the other half to her,” he said at last, and he divided them into two heaps (堆). But each heap looked so small that he put them together again.
“I will only taste one,” he thought. As he again put it to his mouth, he saw that he had taken the finest and he put it back. “I will keep them all for her,” he said with great happiness, and he covered them up nicely to take them home.
He stood up and started to get more and more wood until the sun was beginning to goes down

He stood up and started to get more and more wood until the sun was beginning to goes down. George set out for home. He carried his cap filled with strawberries very carefully. How happy he felt then! He had all his strawberries for his sick mother. The nearer he came to his home the less he wished to taste them. He arrived home before he knew it. Just after he had thrown down his wood, he heard his mother’s weak voice calling him from the next room. “Is that you, George? I am glad you have come, for I am thirsty and I’m longing for some tea. Could you get some for me?” George ran to her and joyfully offered her all the wild strawberries.
Seeing the wild strawberries, his mum was very glad, tears running down her face. She said, “My boy, you didn’t taste one of the strawberries and saved all for your sick mother. God will bless you for all this, my child.” At that moment, George and his mother were both filled with happiness.

My wife Laura and I were on the beachwith three of our children, taking pictures of shore birds near our home in Alaska when we spotted a bear. The bear was thin and small, moving aimlessly.
Just a few minutes later I heard my daughter shouting, “Dad!
Its huge head was level with my chest and shoulders and the tripod stuck across its mouth.

C. space order D. time order
5. When did the bear finally go away?

A. calmness B. patience
C. pride D. cautiousness
7. When the bear moved back towards the forest, how did the family feel?
A. Excited. B. Threatened.

She said “I struggled so hard with math and wanted to give up.
A. Sports. B. People. C. Education. D. Health.

____16____ This means setting up a system that works for you to keep track of important dates, assignments, and deadlines. This can be as simple as using a planner. In this way, you can stay on top of your work and avoid any last- minute hurry.
Manage your time wisely. Whatever system you choose, just ensure it works for you and helps you stay on track.
