参考范文:
As is known to all, many kinds of wild animals have died out and lots of others are becoming endangered. It's urgent for us to take action to protect them. If nothing is done, we may find ourselves alone on the earth one day.
Wild animals are endangered for various reasons. Firstly, many animals are dying out because of air or water pollution. Secondly, the forests where wild animals live are being destroyed. As a result, a lot of animals are losing their habitats. Besides, too much hunting also causes the disappearance of certain species of wild animals.
From my point of view, our government should keep people from destroying forests and close down the factories which pollute rivers and air. Meanwhile, more wildlife reserves should be set up.

Paragraph 1:
The man heard a slight shake in Reuben's voice and could tell he was close to tears. “Why do you need this money so badly?” “It's a secret.” The man took the sacks, reached into his pocket and put four coins in Reuben's hand. Reuben said a thank you and ran home. Then, holding the tin can in his hand, he headed for the shop. “I have the money.” he told the owner proudly. The man went to the window and fetched Reuben's treasure. He wiped the dust off and gently wrapped it in brown paper.
Paragraph 2:
Then the shopkeeper placed the jewel box in Reuben's hands. Racing home, Reuben burst through the front door. “Here, Mum! Here!” Reuben exclaimed as he ran to her excitedly. Then he placed a small box in her work roughened hand. Mum unwrapped it carefully. A blue-velvet jewel box appeared. Mum gently lifted the lid, with tears welling up in her eyes. She had never received such a precious gift. A smile flashing across her face, she held Reuben tightly in her arms.

Text 1
W: I hear the new restaurant on Grant Street is pretty good.
M: I don’t think so. The environment is good, the food is OK, but its service is really slow. I’ll never go there again.
Text 2
W: The film is a total failure. I can’t believe it was directed by that famous director, and my favorite actor starred in it.
M: Do you really think so? I think quite the opposite.
Text 3
W: What is the weather report for tomorrow?
M: It’s been typical spring weather today, wind and showers. The next twenty-four hours should be dry but cloudy.
Text 4
W: Times Square, please.
M: All right, madam.
W: Please drive slowly. I’d like to go around the city, if you don’t mind.
Text 5
W: Have you ever been to the National Museum? It’s fun.
M: Yes, I visit it often. I’m going to the City Library tomorrow afternoon. Would you like to join me?
W: I’d love to, but I’ll go to a movie with Jenny.
Text 6
M: Can you arrange for a candle light dinner for tomorrow?
W: Certainly, sir. What time should we arrange, sir?
M: Is it possible at 7:00 pm?
W: Surely.
M: Oh, no, no. My wife is taking part in her friend’s birthday party tomorrow. So please put it off one hour later.
W: OK, sir.
Text 7
M: Hello, Sue! I’m leaving for Paris tomorrow.
W: When are you going?
M: I’m leaving at 9:00 tomorrow morning. I’m driving to the airport. It will take me about an hour. The plane takes off at 11 o’clock.
W: What are you going to do there?
M: I enjoy swimming in the sea and taking a walk on the beach. But this time it’s more of a cultural holiday. I hear some museums there are wonderful.
W: Sounds interesting. Will you view the whole city by bus?
M: No, I’m going to borrow a car from a friend in Paris.
W: That’s a good idea. Have a good trip!
Text 8
M: You know my after-school science club, Lisa? There’s a competition with another school, and I’m in the Team.
W: Well done! Can I come and watch the competition?
M: Yes, but it’s not at our school. It’s at a university.
W: So, how will you get there?
M: It’s too far to walk, so we’ll take the bus. The underground is quicker, but it’s expensive.
W: I know. Can you tell me something about the competition?
M: Yes. It’s about some questions on five subjects.
W: What subjects are you hoping for?
M: I’m not great at biology! I enjoy physics the most. But I think the competition will have lots of questions on chemistry.
W: Is there a prize?
M: Yes. The first prize is a museum ticket for everyone in the Team. Much better than a calendar. And even if we don’t win, we can all keep our special T-shirts.
Text 9
W: Dad, look at this survey. A teacher gave it to me.
M: Why don’t you try it, Mary?
W: Just a moment. I’ll get a pen from my desk. OK.
M: Well, the first question, how often do you get in touch with your friends?
W: My friends aren’t in the same high school as me. And I dislike ringing people up.
M: Secondly, how many friends can you talk with to calm yourself down when you are very upset?
W: Oh, I can’t think of any. I usually talk with you or Mum when I feel sad.
M: The last question, your friend wants to talk with you face to face. Where would you have the talk?
W: Well, we can’t talk in the classroom. Maybe I should meet her in a cafe or a restaurant? No, I think I would talk to her in a shopping center. We can talk and shop at the same time.
M: Let’s see how many points you’ve got. Oh, Mary, you’ve only got 8! I think you should get along with your friends. Why not call or visit them often?
Text 10
M: No one knows exactly why some people live longer than others. For nearly ten years I’ve been trying to find the answer to this question. I’ve traveled to places with large numbers of people aged a hundred and over. Now I’m doing research on the Island of Sardinia (撒丁岛) in Italy. Sardinia is an interesting place because most men keep long life. That isn’t normal for most countries. What is the reason? In Sardinian culture, as men get older, they have fewer public and family responsibilities, but the older mothers or grandmothers often have more. Perhaps the older men have less stress, which means they’re living longer. It’s true that on Sardinia the younger people are eating more fast food. Also young people are moving to cities, so they are doing less exercise because of their lifestyle. It will be interesting to come back to Sardinia in twenty years and see if people are still living longer.

One of the most amazing experiences we had during our travels around the world was spending a
night in the middle of the Amazon rainforest.
Our guide was Aparecida,a woman who was brought up in the middle of the dense rainforest.Since
there are no trails,we had to cut our way through the jungle searching for a good place to spend the

night. We followed her.As she was cutting the branches and other obstacles,it was like being in an
adventurous movie. After a couple of hours,we found a big tree which seemed ideal to attach the
hammocks (to.We cleared the ground around and hanged up our hammocks.
In the raining season you can expect a shower every day,so we had to be prepared for that, too. We
wanted to sleep under the sky,so we built a small shelter in case it rained.
When our fire was out, complete darkness came upon us,and this was the moment when the jungle
around woke up.We started to hear louder and louder noise of crickets, small birds and monkeys. Many
times we woke up during the night, when small branches or leaves fell into our hammocks.Sometimes the
noise was really strong, especially when the howler monkeys were roaring in the distance. We could not
sleep deeply, but we enjoyed listening to the music of the rainforest. It was an unbelievable experience.
We got up at 4 am to see the sunrise.Aparecida took us to a small trail where we could get familiar
with different herbs and unusual jungle fruits. On the way out of the jungle,we saw a deer crossing the
road.
Late we took a boat to a place where two rivers the Amazon and Tapajos join each other. In the short
two-hour boat trip,we saw loads of animals:sloths,different parrots,colorful birds and iguanas.We
enjoyed especially our encounter with the sloths, which move about so slowly on top of the trees, and
when they see you they try to hide, but they do it so slowly that makes you smile.

How and why, roughly 2 million years ago, early human ancestors evolved large brains and began
fashioning relatively advanced stone tools,is one of the great mysteries of evolution. Some researchers
argue these changes were brought about by the invention of cooking. They point out that our bite
weakened around the same time as our larger brains evolved, and that it takes less energy to absorb
nutrients from cooked food.As a result, once they had mastered the art, early chefs could invest less in
their digestive systems and thus invest the resulting energy savings in building larger brains capable of
complex thought. There is,however,a problem with the cooking theory. Most archaeologists
咸阳市实验中学高一英语试题-4-(共10页)
believe the evidence of controlled fire stretches back (no more than 790,000 years.
Roger Summons of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has a solution.Together with his team,he
analyzed 1.7-million-year-old sand-stones that formed in an ancient river at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania. The
region is famous for the large number of human fossils ()that have been discovered there, alongside
an impressive assembly of stone tools. The sand-stones themselves have previously yielded some
of the world's earliest complex hand axes ()-large tear-drop-shaped stone tools that are associated
with Homo erectus ()Creating an axe by repeatedly knocking thin pieces off a raw stone in
order to create two sharp cutting edges requires a significant amount of planning.Their appearance is
therefore thought to mark an important moment in intellectual evolution.Trapped inside the Olduvai sand-
stones, the researchers found distinctive but unusual biological molecules (that are often interpreted as
biomarkers for heat-tolerant bacteria. Some of these live in water between 85C and 95C.The molecules'
presence suggests that an ancient river within the Gorge was once fed by one or more hot springs.
Dr.Summons and his colleagues say the hot springs would have provided a convenient "pre-fire"
means of cooking food.In New Zealand, the Maori have traditionally cooked food in hot springs, either by
lowering it into the boiling water or by digging a hole in the hot earth.Similar methods exist in Japan and
Iceland,so it is plausible,if difficult to prove, that early humans might have used hot springs to cook
meat and roots.Richard Wrangham, who devised the cooking theory,is fascinated by the idea.
Nonetheless(尽管如此),fire would have offered a distinct advantage to humans, once they had
mastered the art of controlling it since, unlike a hot spring,it is a transportable resource.
28.All of the following statements can support the cooking theory EXCEPT
A.cooking enabled early humans to invest less in digestive system
B.cooking enabled early humans to devote more energy to building big brains
C.our brain became larger around the same time our digestive system weakened
D.the controlled fire wasn't mastered until about 790,000 years ago
29.The presence of biological molecules was important because
A.they suggested a possible means of cooking without fire
B.they cast light on how early Homo erectus lived
C.they provided a convenient way of studying stone tools
D.they made studies of pre-historic cultures possible
30.The underlined word“plausible”probably means“
”
A.noticeable
B.applicable
C.reasonable
D.affordable
31.What may be the conclusion of the study by Dr.Summons and his colleagues?
A.Early humans were capable of making complex stone tools.
B.Hot springs help explain how human brains got so big.
C.Homo erectus were adaptable to tough and complex territories
D.Human brains are highly advanced as shown by their size.
D
Playing tennis regularly could help keep people off death, but football, rugby and running may not
help people to live longer,a study suggests.
咸阳市实验中学高一英语试题-5-(共10页)
A study followed more than 80,000 people for an average of nine years to find out if certain sports
protected them against early death. It found that people who played racket sports regularly were the least
likely to die over the study period, reducing their individual risk by 47 percent compared with people who
did no exercise.Swimmers also reduced their chance of death by 28 percent, aerobics fans
by 27 percent and cyclists by 15 percent.Yet running appeared to have no impact at all on dying early,
and neither did playing football or rugby.
Scientists say the difference may lie in the social aspect which goes alongside sports like tennis and
squash ()which often involve clubs and organized activities outside of the game.It means that
people often have larger social networks and tend to keep up activities into later life, both of which are
proven to be good for health.
In contrast, people who play team sports often do not move onto a new sport once their teams break
up for family,or injury reasons. They become watchers rather than participants in their chosen activity.
The researchers found that playing racket sports was associated with a 56 percent lower risk from
heart death.Similarly, swimmers lowered their heart disease or stroke risk by 41 percent, and people who
took part in activities like aerobics, dance or gymnastics lowered their risk by 36 percent. But again
running, football and rugby had no significant impact on heart deaths.
However, other experts argue that this study must not be misinterpreted as showing that running and
football do not protect against heart disease. In this study both runners and footballers had a lower rate of
death from heart disease.
32.Which sport has hardly any impact on protecting people against early death?
A.Cycling.
B.Swimming.
C.Rugby.
D.Tennis.
33.According to the study, which makes a big difference in keeping healthy?
A.Playing basketball with their friends occasionally.
B.Watching football games every day.
C.Taking up gymnastics and joining a club.
D.Doing running in the park every day.
34.What is considered important to people's health?
A.Social networks.
B.Staying at home.
C.Physical examinations.
D.Setting up families.
35.What is the main idea of the text?
A.Thousands of people participated in a 9-year research.
B.Study finds playing tennis helps people live longer.
C.It is wrong to say running has no impact on heart disease.
D.There are differences between racket sports and team games.

Many people think of sharks as dangerous monsters. But human beings cause a far greater danger to
them than they do to us.Although shark attacks do occur, they are quite rare.According to one estimate,
however,humans kill 100 million sharks every year.36
咸阳市实验中学高一英语试题-6-(共10页)
Why should we save the sharks?
Sharks take up the top position on the food chain in the ocean. As sharks die off,the population of
the animals that sharks consume will increase. This,in turn, means that the number of the creatures those
animals eat will drop.
37
Fish that eat algae are also included. This can cause algae to
spread so much that it damages coral reefs.
38
The ocean not only produces more oxygen than all the rainforests on Earth combined,
but also removes half of the man-made greenhouse gas from the atmosphere.Once sharks die off,the
global ecosystem will be upset, affecting all creatures including human beings.
Don't use shark products.First, vitamin energy drinks and leather goods can be made from shark
parts.
39 In addition, shark meat is sold around the world, sometimes under misleading names
such as rock Shark fin soup is a popular dish. However, the process of getting fins is cruel.Fishermen cut
the shark's fins off and then throw the shark back into the water, still alive.Sharks breathe by swimming.
40
A.It is time for children to learn about sharks.
B.Shark oil is also used in many popular beauty products.
C.Then the shark that can't swim dies slowly, sometimes over several days.
D.Actually, the killing of sharks will affect the whole planet.
E.People in some countries are especially keen on shark products.
F.Among them are some sea fish that humans consume every day.
G.This number is a warning that many kinds of sharks may die out.

inside.Standing proud and straight,he told the shopkeeper what he wanted, adding,"But I don't have
the money right now.Can you please hold it for me for some time?"
“I'll try,”the shopkeeper smiled..
"I will raise the five dollars and not tell anybody,"Reuben said to himself.

Hearing the sound of hammering from a side street,Reuben had an idea.People built their own
homes in Bay Roberts, using nails purchased in sacks(麻布袋)from a local factory.Sometimes the
sacks were abandoned, and Reuben knew he could sell them back to the factory for five cents a piece.
That day he found two sacks and sold to the man in charge of packing nails.
The boy's hand tightly held the five-cent pieces as he ran home.Near his house stood the ancient
barn ()Reuben found a soda tin and dropped his coins inside. Then he climbed into the top of the
barn and hid the tin.
All summer long, despite housework at home,Reuben kept to his secret task.Often he was cold,
tired and hungry, but the thought of the object in the shop window kept him up.
Mother's Day had come!He uncovered the tin can, poured the coins out and began to count. He
needed 20 cents more.He had to find four more sacks and sell them before the day ended.
Towards evening Reuben arrived at the factory. The sack buyer was about to lock up."Mister!
Please don't close up yet."
The man turned and saw Reuben, dirty and sweaty.
“Come back tomorrow,boy.”
“Please,Mister.I have to sell the sacks now一please.”
