A lot of people want to know what Thanksgiving Day is and why it is celebrated. Thanksgiving Day is celebrated in America on the fourth Thursday of November. On this day, people get together for a day of meal with family, friends and family members. This holiday has a long history which started in 1620.
A Protestant religious group, known today as “Pilgrims”(清教徒), arrived in the new world on board of the ship called “Mayflower” and settled in Massachusetts. Their first winter in America was full of difficulties and drama. They arrived too late to farm the land, so they were hungry. Half of them died from disease. The following spring, the local tribe of Native Americans taught them how to grow corn, hunt and fish. In the autumn of 1621, the pilgrims got a rich harvest(收获) of corn, barley, beans, pumpkin and other vegetables. The first Thanksgiving was a three-day feast. Before dining, they all praised the Lord and thanked him for all the food and wealth he gave them. This is how the festival got started.
Let’s get back to our days and discuss modern Thanksgiving Day traditions. Family feast is an important tradition. The whole family comes together, sits at the table, offers prayer to the Lord and celebrates. Thanksgiving is a time to decorate home with wreaths, fresh and dried flowers.

People want to know if pre-made meals are healthy enough for teenagers. There are several kinds of pre-made foods: ready-to-eat food, such as canned food or cooked food in packages, and ready-to-heat or ready-to-cook food. These foods usually require heating or cooking first before being served.
Many people think that pre-made foods are less healthy because they usually need to be kept in fridges. “In fact, freezing itself does not cause nutrition loss,” Liu Junya, a 33-year-old professor in diet in Beijing said. “But nutrition loss does happen when we heat or fry the food. Vitamins B and C in meat and vegetables can be lost during that process. By being heated or cooked twice or party pre-made foods can be less nutritious than freshly prepared and cooked foods,” Liu said.
“Besides, many pre-made food companies put the taste of food ahead of nutrition,” said Liu. This leads to higher level of salt and sugar in the food and may cause serious health problems in the long term.
Additives are another problem related to pre-made foods. They are only used to improve the flavor of the food, increase its shelf life, and color it. In China, food industry has already had modern technology to keep pre-made kids without any additives. But it’s necessary that customers only buy pre-made books from big and qualified food companies or supermarkets.
It is hoped that laws on pre-made meals can ensure better nutrition and hygiene (卫生). “In this way we hope pre-made meals will be accepted by more. But at present, no one can tell,” Liu said.
38.Which of the following statement about “pre-made meals” is WRONG?
A.Canned food or cooked food in packages is one kind of pre-made foods.
B.Pre-made foods require heating or cooking first before being served.
C.Pre-made foods are less healthy because they usually need to be kept in fridges.

40.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

B.Higher level of salt and sugar in the food will not cause serious health problems
C.For health, nutrition is more important than the taste of the food.
D.Only big food companies or supermarkets serve pre-made foods.
【答案】:C
【解析】:根据“Besides, many pre-made food companies put the taste of food ahead of nutrition...This leads to higher level of salt and sugar in the food and pay cause serious health problems in the long term”可知,许多预制食品公司把食物味道的重要性置于营养之上,导致食物中的盐和糖含量升高,从长期来看,这会造成严重的健康问题。因此不能片面追求味道,为了健康,营养是更加重要的。故选C。
41.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.How to Make Pre-made Meals
B.Are Pre-made Meals Healthy Enough?
C.Pre-made Meals Are Healthy
D.Pre-made Meals Are Popular
【答案】:B

Freedom to rent
With the rise of the sharing economy, renting has become increasingly popular among young people. For example, a DJI Air 3S drone can be rented for less than 100 yuan ($14.04) for two days; while buying one costs over 8,000 yuan. Similarly, many young people now prefer to rent designer outfits for special occasions rather than buy pieces that would sit unused in their wardrobes(衣橱) most of the year.
“Renting luxury(奢侈的) handbags or designer dresses allows you to change styles often, keeps costs manageable, and saves on storage space at home," Mickey, a graduate student told New Retail Business Review.
Renting also enables people to try larger items — such as home appliances or equipment — before buying one. For example, one can rent a Nintendo Switch for 80 yuan per week or a tent for 21 yuan per day. For products like baby strollers, which are quickly outgrown, renting offers more environmentally friendly choices.
However, renting does have its downsides. Many consumers are worried about issues like hidden fees and product quality. To address these concerns, the rental market must continue to improve its regulations and services.
As more young people support renting, it's clear that owning is no longer the final goal. In a world that's constantly changing, perhaps "having it all" is less about ownership and more about the freedom to let things go.
42.One will save about _______ if he rents a DJI Air 3S drone for two days instead of buying one.
A.100 yuan B.8000 yuan C.7900 yuan D.14.04 yuan
【答案】:C
【解析】:根据第二段租用大疆无人机两天的费用大约100元,购买费用大约8000元,所以大约节约7900元。故选C。
43.What is NOT the reason why young people are renting luxury handbags or designer dresses instead of buying them according to Mickey?
A.It allows them to change styles often.
B.It saves them money in the long run.
C.It provides more storage space at home.
D.It gives them the chance to try larger items.
【答案】:D
【解析】:根据第三段Renting luxury(奢侈的) handbags or designer dresses allows you to change styles often, keeps costs manageable, and saves on storage space at home,可知ABC选项都是原因。故选D。
44.The underlined word “downsides” in Paragraph 4 probably means ________.
A.缺点 B.好处 C.警告 D.疑惑
【答案】:A
【解析】:根据文章第五段后面的内容可知租用也有缺点。故选A。
45.What is the main message of the last paragraph?
A.Owning is the final goal for young people.
B.The rental market needs to improve its regulations and services.
C.The sharing economy is less about ownership and more about freedom.
D.Young people are more interested in renting than buying.
【答案】:C
【解析】:最后一段可知perhaps "having it all" is less about ownership and more about the freedom to let things go,共享经济的兴起意味着人们更少在乎拥有一切,而更多在于自由放手的能力。故选C。

43.What is NOT the reason why young people are renting luxury handbags or designer dresses instead of buying them according to Mickey?
A.It allows them to change styles often.
B.It saves them money in the long run.
C.It provides more storage space at home.
D.It gives them the chance to try larger items.
44.The underlined word “downsides” in Paragraph 4 probably means ________.
A.缺点 B.好处 C.警告 D.疑惑
45.What is the main message of the last paragraph?
A.Owning is the final goal for young people.
