Have you ever heard Auld Lang Syne? “Auld Lang Syne” means, in English, “old days gone by”. People in Britain usually sing this song at parties and most famously on New Year’s Eve.
Auld Lang Syne was actually a poem written by Robert Burns in Scottish in 1788. Robert Burns was born in Scotland in 1759 to a poor family on the farm. His family often had nothing to eat. He had little education and taught himself through self-study. Even from an early age, Burns began to show his writing talent.
His first collection of poems came out when he was 27, which earned him four hundred dollars, a large sum of money at that time. When the French Revolution (革命), he supported the revolution and in 1792 he sent four small guns to Paris. He further expressed his support by writing a number of poems. In these poems Burns called on people to fight for a happy life in the future. During the last 9 years of his life, Burns did a great deal of work in collecting and editing traditional Scottish songs. He refused to accept any pay, although he was in bad need of money. He continued the work until he died on 21 July, 1796.
He wrote poems in the tradition of Scottish folk songs. Many Burns’ works are of love and friendship. Much of the effect for Burns’ works of art was gathered from his surroundings—the places he travelled to, the culture and the people he loved at that time. His poems speak straight from the heart of a farmer to express the common feelings of millions of working people in simplest words. One of his world-famous works is A Red, Red (1794).
He is still remembered as Scotland’s national poet, more than 250 years after his death. A national Burns Night is held in Scotland and in other places throughout the world every year on his birthday, 25 January.

There are challenges of recycling clothes. But a company in France is trying to make it easier. The company is called CETIA.It built two machines that use AI to help recycle clothes and shoes. With AI technology, one machine can find and cut off zippers and buttons from clothes, while the other machine can pull off soles (鞋底) from shoes easily.
This sounds simple, but nobody has ever done it before. “Nobody recycled soles before because it was hard to sort them from shoes,” said the leader of CETIA.People had to put shoes on an oven to melt the glue and pull off the soles by hand. But CETIA’s machine can do it very easily.
Some clothes can be recycled into materials for houses or roads. But most clothes don’t become clothes again. That’s because clothes need materials that must be sorted carefully by hand. That usually takes a long time and is expensive. But CETIA’s machine can sort faster and better than people. It can even sort clothes by color and material, making it easier to recycle them into clothes again.
Recycling clothes and shoes is important because it can reduce waste and can even create new jobs. CETIA is doing amazing work by developing those recycling machines. They’re showing us that with smart thinking, we can find ways to solve big problems.

A.He finds them fascinating. B.He thinks they’re helpless.

Have you ever wondered why birds sing? Maybe you thought that they were just happy. After all, you probably sing when you are happy.
Some scientists believe that birds do sing some of the time just because they are happy. However, they sing most of the time for a very different reason. Their singing is actually a warning to other birds to stay out of their territory.
Do you know what a “territory” is? A territory is an area that an animal, usually the male animal, considers as its own. Only he and his family are welcome there. No other families of the same species are welcome. Your yard and house are your territory where only your family and friends are welcome. If a stranger should enter your territory and frighten you, you might shout. Probably this would be enough to frighten him away.
If so, you have actually scared the stranger away without having to fight him. A bird does the same thing. But he expects an outsider almost any time, especially at nesting (筑巢) season. So he is screaming all the time, whether he can see an outsider or not. This screaming is what we call a bird’s song, and it is usually enough to keep an outsider away.
Birds sing loudest in spring when they are trying to attract a mate and warn others not to enter the territory of theirs.
You can see that birds have a language of their own. Most of it has to do with attracting (吸引) mates and setting up territories.
42.How does the writer explain bird’ singing?
A.By telling a bird’s story. B.By describing birds’ daily life.
C.By reporting experiment results. D.By comparing birds with human.
43.What does the underlined word “territory” mean?
A.An area which a bird considers to be its own.
B.An area for which birds fight against each other.
C.A place where a bird may shout at the top of its voice.
D.A place where families of other species are not welcome.
44.Why do birds keep on singing at nesting season?
A.Because they want to invite more friends.
B.Because they want to find outsiders around.
C.Because they want to express their happiness.
D.Because their singing helps frighten outsiders away.
45.What’s the best title of the passage?
A.The differences of human and birds
B.How birds keep an outsider away
C.The reasons of birds’ singing
D.Birds’ singing for happiness

“Nobody recycled soles before because it was hard to sort them from shoes,”said the leader of CETIA.People had to put shoes on an oven to melt the glue and pull off the soles by hand. But CETIA’s machine can do it very easily.
Some clothes can be recycled into materials for houses or roads. But most clothes don’t become clothes again. That’s because clothes need materials that must be sorted carefully by hand.
