Theatrical tradition Theaters in Britain date back at least to the 16th century, and the most famous playwright is of course William Shakespeare. A company was founded in his name, with a stage at his birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon. It has trained generations of actors. In the 20th century, classical and more modern plays were also performed at many regional theaters, where actors and writers gained experience. Film stars The world of film-making has involved British creative talent from the beginning. Charlie Chaplin born in poverty in London’s East End, began as a child entertainer in music halls. He then became a pioneer of silent movies in Hollywood and created many black-and-white classics during the First World War. British actors, who were often classically trained in theater, Laurence Olivier and Alec Guinness became house-hold names after the Second World War. Supporting talent Film-making creativity has been supported by two major studios. Productions at Shepperton have included Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi and Ridley Scott’s Alien. Pinewood’s most famous products must be the James Bond films. Both theater and film have their own annual festivals, including one of the biggest festivals in Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh. Visual expression The visual arts also show Britain’s creative spirit, from Romantic Age painters like Turner and Constable to groups such as the Pre-Raphaelites and the modernist sculpture of Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. Today’s famous artists — Damien Hirst or Tracey Emin — regularly show in the newspapers, and their works are sold at high prices. 21. Which of the following helps actors and writers a lot? A. Musical theaters. B. Stratford-upon-Avon. C. London’s West End. D. Regional theaters. 22. What can we learn from the passage about Charlie Chaplin? A. He came from a rich family. B. He went to theater school as a child. C. He began as a child entertainer in Hollywood. D. He contributed to the early film industry in Hollywood. 23. What do we know about Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin? A. You have to pay a lot to buy their works. B. They have both invented new art forms. C. They mainly learnt from Romantic Age painters. D. You can buy their works from many major galleries. B I like music. I think maybe most people like it as much as I do. I believe other people would have the same feeling towards music. For me, music can always make me feel happy and relaxed. Sometimes when I feel very depressed, or suffer setbacks, music can work its magic which helps me go through unpleasant mood. Music makes me feel quiet and peaceful. Furthermore, it has the power to revive my spirit. So I can imagine if there’s no music in the world, how boring and colourless our world might be. There are so many different styles of music such as pop, classic, rock, heavy metal and so on. Maybe everyone has different tastes and likes different styles. Even though music gives us different effects in different conditions, one thing can be ensured for us that music can help us release the pressure when we feel nervous. And it can depurate (净化) our heart. When we feel happy, we can listen to some music which makes us happier; if we feel sad and frustrated, we can choose the music which gives us power and makes us refreshed. If we are introverted people, we can listen to the music which makes us more outgoing. Above all, I’ve stated so many effects of music. We have so many beautiful melodies in the world which could make our life more and more pleasant. So I think we should thank the people who create music, who use rhythms to express various feelings and things as we use articles and languages to express our thinking. So nice! They create the great music, while music makes our world even better. I love music forever! 24. Which of the following is not the reason for the author’s love for music? A. Music can always make the author feel happy and relaxed. B. Music helps the author go through unpleasant mood. C. Music gives the author great imagination. D. Music makes the author feel quiet and peaceful. 25. What can be ensured for us about different types of music? A. Everyone has the same taste and likes the same style. B. Music gives us a similar effect in many conditions. C. Music can help us to reduce our pressure. D. Music can sometimes hurt our heart. 26. What’s the meaning of the underlined word “introverted” in the second paragraph? A. Depressed. B. Delighted. C. Confused. D. Quiet and shy. 27. What does the passage mainly talk about? A. Music can help us to be healthy. B. We can’t live without music. C. There are many kinds of music in the world. D. Music makes our life pleasant. C Do you like to keep fit? We’re always told that regular exercise is good for our body and mind. More and more people are taking up activities that improve their fitness. But is there a risk that some of us might get obsessed (着迷的) and overdo it? Well, for some people, fitness has become an obsession as they aim for perfection. And fitness trackers and apps can add to this addiction, especially if someone is driven by achievement and perfectionism. And sharing data on social media means exercising becomes public and competitive, which could cause problems in someone who is vulnerable (脆弱的). Experts say this can lead to a medical condition called orthorexia nervosa, or addiction to healthy eating and overexercise. Untreated, it can lead to malnutrition and mental health complications. Too much exercise can also take its toll on someone’s physical health as well. Symptoms of overexercising include injuries such as a broken leg and a low immune system. So how much exercise is too much? Researches found the ideal pace to jog was about eight kilometers per hourand that it was best to jog no more than three times a week or for 2.5 hours in total, showing that moderate jogging is possibly more beneficial than being inactive or undertaking strenuous (剧烈的) jogging. If you’re more of a couch potato than a sprinter, this might sound like good news. But for amateur athletes who can’t help but push their bodies to the limit, the advice from Martin Turner, a sports and exercise psychologist, is, “It’s all about letting go, not being obsessed, learning not to control everything, saying, ‘You don’t need to be perfect.’” 28. What contributes most to people’s addiction to overexercise according to Paragraph 2? A. Their urge for social support. B. Their pursuit of perfectionism. C. Their addiction to fitness apps. D. Their concern over health issues. 29. What does the underlined phrase “take its toll” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Having a bad effect. B. Going hand in hand. C. Making little difference. D. Playing an important role. 30. What is the passage mainly about? A. The risk of fitness obsession. B. The importance of mental health. C. The benefits of moderate jogging. D. The symptoms of overexercising. 31. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear? A. Science. B. Opinion. C. Culture. D. Lifestyle. D Opinions differ on the question of whether it is better to live in the city or in the countryside. However, due to the rapid upward trend in house prices in cities, people are increasingly choosing to move to a rural(乡村的) area. Reason enough to take a closer look at the arguments for living in the city and in the country. Living in the city continues to be extremely popular. The proportion of the population living in rural areas has been falling continuously since the middle of the 19th century which was marked by industrialization(工业化). More and more people moved to the cities to find work. Infrastructure is one of the biggest advantages of cities. A well-developed network of public transportation often makes that a car is not absolutely necessary. In the countryside, on the other hand, you almost always need a car to be flexible(灵活的). Related to infrastructure, mobility is also an argument for living in the city. Very often, rural regions are not or only connected to the rail network and also do not have an adequate bus system. In the cities, there is a wide range of entertaining options, from cultural opportunities and other clubs. The latter, however, are increasingly found in the countryside as well. In addition, rural areas offer many options for outdoor activities. The expansion of digital networks is still in its beginnings in some rural regions. Here, the city clearly has the better offer. However, this is set to change, and various research projects and plans to expand digital networks are intended to promote the connection of rural residential areas. 32. What is the function of the first paragraph? A. To introduce the main topic. B. To raise readers’ interest. C. To put forward a reason. D. To present different opinions. 33. What resulted in the growth of the population in cities? A. Colorful outdoor activities. B. Low housing prices. C. More job opportunities. D. Strong cultural atmosphere. 34. What is the author’s attitude towards life in the countryside? A. Uncaring. B. Optimistic. C. Doubtful. D. Grateful. 35. What is the text mainly about? A. The means of transportation in the city. B. The similarities between different cultures. C. The advantages of living in the countryside. D. The different views on living in the city or the rural area. Amazing Benefits of Listening to Music If you love listening to music, you’re good company. ___36___ ★Music makes you happier. Today is my basketball Grand-final! My team of six enthusiastic boys led by our coach, Jack, has worked extremely hard just to make the finals. My heart was pounding a hundred kilometres an hour as I walked into our home ground. As I hurried to our team bench, our opponents caught my attention. They seemed a lot taller and “meaner” looking. Whistle blew. Five of us started on the court. Our opponent got hold of the ball first. They were unbelievably fast. They kept breaking our defences and kept scoring goals. Excited parents were cheering so much that their faces were as red as beetroots. Even our best, Bryce, could not stop our opponents from scoring, which annoyed him a lot. By half time, both teams were extremely exhausted and our opponents were ten goals ahead, which presented us with an enormous but achievable challenge. Jack was awfully anxious as we were not playing anywhere near our best. He told us that we could still win if we made our transitions much quicker so that penalty shots came our way.He also directed us to rebound (抢断篮板) and position ourselves better to receive and score goals. Most important, he reminded us to play as a team. Our team was all fired up. The second half started in our favour. We were as quick as lightning on the court. We were dribbling (运球), passing, shooting and rebounding without any mistakes. We caught our opponents by surprise. The scores were almost level. We were trailing only by one point. The crowd was growing wild with excitement, fuelling our confidence. At the same time, our opponents switched back to attention and started playing like what they did in the first half, making it harder for us to score. One minute left! Our opponent threw in the ball but I managed to steal it! Our team was bursting with happiness! More opponents were heading my way and I had to pass the ball to Bryce. Instead of passing on the ball, he did the most unexpected thing. He tried to score from half court! He missed by miles! Then I noticed Jack signaled to the referee for a pause. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Whistle blew again and we came back to the court. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 嘉积中学2024—2025学年度第一学期高中教学质量监测(期中) 高二英语试题 (时间:120分钟 满分:150分) 欢迎你参加这次测试,祝你取得好成绩! What does George prefer to do? I think maybe most people like it as much as I do. I believe other people would have the same feeling towards music. For me, music can always make me feel happy and relaxed. Sometimes when I feel very depressed, or suffer setbacks, music can work its magic which helps me go through unpleasant mood. Music makes me feel quiet and peaceful. Furthermore, it has the power to revive my spirit. So I can imagine if there’s no music in the world, how boring and colourless our world might be. There are so many different styles of music, such as pop, classic, rock, heavy metal and so on. A. Sometimes when I feel very depressed, or suffer setbacks, music can work its magic which helps me go through unpleasant mood. Music makes me feel quiet and peaceful.”(对我来说,音乐总能让我感到快乐和放松。 根据第二段关键句“Even though music gives us different effects in different conditions, one thing can be ensured for us that music can help us release the pressure when we feel nervous.”(尽管音乐在不同的条件下给我们带来不同的效果,但有一件事是可以保证的,那就是当我们感到紧张时,音乐可以帮助我们释放压力。) 通读文章,结合最后一段关键句“We have so many beautiful melodies in the world which could make our life more and more pleasant.”(世界上有那么多美妙的旋律,可以让我们的生活越来越愉快。) C Do you like to keep fit? D. Playing an important role. 30. What is the passage mainly about? A. The risk of fitness obsession. B. The importance of mental health. C. The benefits of moderate jogging. D. A Colorful outdoor activities. B. Low housing prices. C. More job opportunities. D. Strong cultural atmosphere. 34. What is the author’s attitude towards life in the countryside? A. Uncaring. B. Optimistic. C. Doubtful. D. Grateful. 35. What is the text mainly about? A. The means of transportation in the city. B. The similarities between different cultures. C. The advantages of living in the countryside. D. The different views on living in the city or the rural area. 32. A 33. C 34. B 35. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Possible version: Then I noticed Jack signaled to the referee for a pause. So we headed towards Jack and gathered around him. Somehow one of teammates began complaining about Bryce. Feeling frustrated and aggrieved, Bryce argued that he just tried to get scores. Jack looked into our eyes, saying, “It is easy to blame someone for mistake, but remember that basketball game is a team effort. We win together or lose together!” So ashamed was Bryce that he promised to keep calm and cooperate. Whistle blew again and we came back to the court. Though our opponents had possession of the ball, I stole it once again and passed it to Bryce. Finding he got double teamed, Bryce managed to pass the ball to one of us. He shot. Yes! We made it! The final buzzer rang! We screamed with excitement and hugged together. Since this memorable basketball match, we have been ready for every battle. There is no limit to what we can accomplish as long as we play a team. 走去:walk towards/head towards ②牢记:remember/memorize/keep in mind ③完成,实现:accomplish/achieve/fulfil 情绪类 ①沮丧:sad/frustrated/depressed/discouraged ②难忘的:memorable/unforgettable 【点睛】[高分句型1]Feeling frustrated and aggrieved, Bryce argued that he just tried to get scores.(运用了现在分词做状语,及宾语从句) [高分句型2]So ashamed was Bryce that he promised to keep calm and cooperate.(运用了so…that…句型及部分倒装) [高分句型3]There is no limit to what we can accomplish as long as we play a team.(运用了what引导的宾语从句及as long as引导的条件状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
