A
A great new invention by a British student will help children who are overweight. It will also reduce the number of hours of television they watch every day. The technology is nicknamed “Square-Eyes”. It is a tiny, computerized sensor (感应器)that fits into children`s shoes. It measures the number of steps the child takes during the day and sends the information to the family computer. Software then tells the child how many hours of TV he or she can watch that evening. One hundred steps equal one minute of TV. If children use up all of their viewing time, they must do more walking.
The designer Gillian Swan says this will help children to include exercise in their daily life from an early age. Ten years ago, children were healthier because they played outside with their friends. But today’s children spend too much time in front of TV and don’t exercise. This means children have weight problems and become fat. “Square-Eyes” is a nickname often given to children who watch too much television. It may now have a new meaning. The new technology is the beginning of computers that become a part of our clothes. What we wear will soon monitor our health.
26. “Square-Eyes” can help children who have _______ problems.
A. eyesight B. weight C. feet D. walking
27. Where can we find “Square-Eyes” on children?
A In children’s pockets. B. In children’s head.

28. If Jimmy wants to watch TV for twenty minutes, he should walk _______ steps.

Many people ask me what my favorite invention is. I find it very hard to answer them, because there are so many things in my life that I can choose. However, I have chosen a pen. It seems like technology is everywhere. Computers and smart phones are at the center of almofriends with them during the day, sleep with them by our beds and check our messages as soon as we wake up.
In the future, technology will no longer be interrupting us all the time. Instead, we will use calm technology which was first developed by the scientist Mark Weiser in the 1970s. In his opinion, calm technology works quietly but constantly. We know it is there, but we don’t pay much attention to it. According to Mark, the best technology should be invisible (隐形的) and let you live your life.
We already use many different types of calm technology in our everyday lives. Do you have a smoke alarm in your house? That smoke alarm is always there, checking the air for smoke and quietly keeping you safe. It only reminds you it’s there when you’ve burnt your bread! Or there may be lights in your home or school. When somebody passes in front of their sensors (传感器), the lights turn on. You don’t think about this type of technology until you see the light go on.
In the future, we can imagine our houses will use calm technology to open the curtains for us in the morning, to turn down the heat when we leave or even to choose the best music for our mood. The minute we walk through the door, our house will respond by turning on the lights and music, and perhaps even starting to prepare our dinner!
42. Which of the following is an example of calm technology?
A. A radio. B. A smoke alarm.
C. A computer. D. A smart phone.
43. What does the underlined word “interrupting” mean?
A. Troubling. B. Protecting. C. Helping. D. Hurting.
44. What’s the main idea of the third paragraph?
A. Calm technology keeps us safe in many ways.
B. Calm technology can help you to do housework.
C. Calm technology has been used in our daily lives.
D. Calm technology plays an important part in schools.
45. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The light won’t go on unless we touch the sensor.
B. Calm technology will make our life more convenient.
C. People will depend more on smart phones in the future.
D. People won’t have to work because of calm technologyst everything we do. They constantly (持续地) require our attention. We text our

The mobile phone is said to be one of the most useful inventions. It is playing a more and more important role in our daily lives.
The first mobile phone was invented in 1973. It was really large and heavy and could only be used for making phone calls. Now, mobile phones are much smaller and lighter with many different uses. For example, we can use them to take photos, watch movies and buy things no matter where we are. The mobile phone has made our lives much more convenient than before.
In the future, I believe the mobile phone will become smaller and smaller, and we will make it work just by giving it orders directly. Do you agree with me?
