How did you sleep last night?Did you choose your favorite
position ()at bedtime like most people? However, once sleep set
in,you probably changed to different positions.
If you wonder whether there is the best way to sleep, you're not
alone. There's a lot of information online about how to sleep. Many
products have also been created to help people sleep in a healthier position.
But in fact,we have much less control over how we sleep than we might think
According to some scientists,we'd better not even try to do that."Sometimes there's more
harm than good in trying to control your sleep position,"says Raman Malhotra,a medical
expert.
Joseph De Koninck,a psychologist(心理学家)in Canada,,has wondered how people
really sleep at night. He created a way to photograph sleep positions without waking up a
person. As it tumned out,the position people take at the beginning of sleep is not necessarily
3/8
the one they use through the night. After many studies,Joseph found one thing--once you go
to sleep, your body controls its position.
Malhotra agrees."There're certainly positions that are more comfortable for certain
people,"he says."But itcan be hard to train people to avoid certain positions during their
sleep."
Instead of worrying about something that's hard to control, why not ask yourself how
you feel when you wake up?If you're well-rested and don't have sleep problems, there's no
need to worry about your sleep positions. So,next time you go to sleep, close your eyes, relax,
and let nature take its course.
()23.What is mainly explained in the third paragraph?
A.Ways to have a good night's sleep.
B.Facts that people know about sleep positions.
C.Reasons for not trying to control the sleep position.
24.Which of the following is Malhotra's opinion?
A.It's difficult to control our positions at night.
B.It's unnecessary to change positions during sleep.
C.The best sleep position depends on people's self-control.
()25.What does the writer advise people to do?
A.Say no to sleep training products.
B.Put their feelings in the morning first.
C.Make sure that they have enough sleep.
()26.What is the best title for the passage?
A.How can you sleep better?
B.Are sleep products useful?
C.Is there the best sleep position?

Online stores always show customers'reviews of their products on the websites.Online
shoppers,in turn, often read reviews to help themselves gather information, compare products
and make decisions.Research has shown that customers consider reviews to be more
believable than ads (because they come from other customers'real experiences.
Marton Varga of Bocconi's Department of Marketing and Paulo Albuquerque have
carried out a study to find out how much negative reviews()can influence buyers.
According to the result, negative reviews can influence buyers more easily than positive
reviews ()Even a single negative review can stop people from buying a product.
They collected a great deal of information from a large online store in the UK that
mainly sells technology and home products. For customers who read product reviews, the
chance of buying a product drops by 41.8%when a negative review appears compared with
when there is no negative review.Since only 20%of customers read reviews, this means an
8.4%drop in overall demand(总需求).
"We've found that negative reviews not only influence buyers'decisions, but also lead
them to turn to similar products,"said Marton Varga. When customers see negative reviews,
many of them give up the product.A negative review on the product page increases the
chance of searching for similar products by 9.7%.
However, the influence is not the same when it comes to different kinds of products.
Negative reviews have a greater influence on products that are necessary in daily life. But
pleasure products, which are more fun and exciting, are less influenced by negative reviews,
as these reviews often show personal taste.
4/8
27.Why do people read product reviews?
A.Because they can learn more about the product.
B.Because they can make friends with other buyers
C.Because they can ask questions about the product.
(28.Which is NOT the influence of negative reviews?
A.Making the product cheaper than before.
B.Making people give up buying the product.
C.Making the overall demand for the product drop.
29.Which product is probably less influenced by negative reviews?
A.A blender.B.A bread maker.C.A video game.
()30.What's the purpose of the passage?
A.To ask people not to write negative reviews for a product.
B.To tell people how to write reviews for a product correctly.
C.To show people how a product is influenced by negative reviews.
