C.A medical examination. 【答案】17.C 18.C 19.A 20.B 【原文】M: Most universities and colleges in the United States have a health insurance plan for international students. It generally costs around $300 a year now. You may think it is a waste of money, but if you have even a small medical problem, the insurance will help you to pay the bills. So, you should buy a medical insurance when you arrive at the university. I am sure the International Students Office will help you with that. Private doctors are the standard form of the medical care in America, but there are also college clinics, public and private clinics, etc. The quality of medical care can be different in these different places, so it would be better if you ask an American friend for advice before going to see a doctor. Before you leave China, I suggest you have a medical examination. If there is something wrong, you can have it cured in your own country. Don’t forget to take your personal and family health records abroad with you. They provide important and useful information if you need to go to the hospital. But remember to take good care of yourself. Don’t work too hard. A Chilean food company NotCo has been working on a popular meal for people in Latin America and Asia: turtle soup. The meal tastes like turtle soup but has no parts of the creature in it. The company says it uses artificial intelligence (AI) to create the food. It hopes to raise awareness about the endangered reptile Bernardo Moltedo leads the science behind the effort for NotCo. He used the term “impact” - meaning an effect or change - to describe the effort. NotCo uses an AI programme to help it decide what to use. The programme examined 300,000 plants and made 260 quintillion combinations until it found a mix of five proteins that most closely reproduced the taste of turtle meat. For now, neither the plant-based turtle meat nor the soup are for sale. But the company plans on holding an online class to teach people how to prepare the soup.Other Foods With a presence in 12 countries, NotCo creates foods such as hamburgers, milk, or ice cream from plants. These food creations have a similar taste and texture to foods prepared with traditional animal-based ingredients (原料).Background Information Green turtles - traditionally used in turtle soup - are on the International Union tor Conservation of Nature’s red list of endangered species. The creatures numbers are affected by pollution, extreme weather and fishing. The exploitation of these sea turtles is prohibited in most countries in the world. However, turtle soup remains in high demand in countries throughout Asia and Latin America, including China, Mexico, Peru, Malaysia and others. 21.What is the purpose of using AI to reproduce turtle soup? A.To improve NotCo’s reputation. B.To change traditional production methods. C.To raise public awareness of animal protection. D.To enhance the competitiveness of products. 22.Which plant-based product of NotCo has not yet been put into the market? A.Turtle soup. B.Hamburgers. C.Milk. D.Ice cream. 23.What is the text? A.A food advertisement. B.A biological survey report. C.A science fiction novel. D.A news article on technology. 根据第二段中“The company says it uses artificial intelligence (AI) to create the food. It hopes to raise awareness about the endangered reptile (爬行动物). (该公司表示,他们使用人工智能来制作食物。它希望提高人们对这种濒危爬行动物的认识。)”可知,用人工智能复制龟汤的目的是提高公众保护动物的意识。故选C。 22.细节理解题。根据第四段“For now, neither the plant-based turtle meat nor the soup are for sale. (目前,植物性龟肉和龟汤都不出售。)”可知,NotCo的龟汤还没有投入市场。故选A。 23. 根据第一段“Chilean food company NotCo has been working on a popular meal for people in Latin America and Asia: turtle soup. (智利食品公司NotCo一直在开发一种受拉丁美洲和亚洲人欢迎的食物:龟汤。)”以及文章介绍了一家食品公司研制出一种受欢迎的食品,旨在保护野生动物。可知,这是一篇科技类新闻。故选D。 B According to a 2011 study from Michigan State University, only two-thirds of the subjects surveyed routinely walked their dogs. Experts say that skipping your dog’s walk can significantly affect your dog’s emotional and physical well-being. “First of all, dogs don’t exercise by themselves, for the most part,” says Stephanie Borns-Weil, an assistant clinical professor at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. The amount of exercise a dog needs depends on the dog. Some of the dog’s needs vary from age, breed and health. According to Borns-Weil the typical yard doesn’t offer enough stimulation for your dog to have an adequate amount of movement. “Unless you’re spending time playing with your dog, they’re just going to sit there,” she says, “because the space is familiar.” She compared it to reading the same book over and over again or seeking enrichment by hanging out in your bathroom. “Dogs may or may not be getting exercise in your yard, but they’re not getting companionship from their owners, and they’re not getting the mental stimulation that comes from seeing new things, or, from the point of view of a dog, sniffing (嗅) new things,” said Borns-Weil, “Dogs whose needs are not met are subjected to some of the same effects of long-term chronic stress on their health as people experience, ranging from depression and anxiety to problems with the immune system.” According to Valli Fraser-Celin, a humane dog training advocate, the best way to help your dog get the most out of their walk is to let them explore. “Sniffing is the way that dogs experience the world.” Research shows that dogs’ sniffing is how they acquire information about their environment and communicate. Some people refer to dogs’ sniffing as “checking their email.” Studies have shown that creating a companionship with your dog and taking them for walks can greatly reduce stress, benefit overall health, lower medical costs, and decrease depression and anxiety. So, next time you want to skip your dog’s walk, think twice! 24.What is the purpose of paragraph 1? A.To describe a study about dog ownership. B.To present data on dog walking frequency. C.To introduce the importance of dog walking. D.To discuss the benefits of dog companionship. 25.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 2 refer to? A.Walking dogs outdoors. B.Playing with dog owners. C.Hanging out in the bathroom. D.Staying in a familiar place. 26.What can be inferred from Borns-Weil’s words? A.Dogs can exercise enough by staying in the yard. B.Unfamiliar surroundings pose a threat to dogs safety. C.Dogs need more than physical exercise to stay healthy. D.Dogs’ sniffing helps them understand their owners better. 27.Which of the following is the best title for the text? A.Why Dogs Need Routine Walks B.How to Train Your Dog to Walk C.The Benefits of Raising Dogs D.The Importance of Dog Training 【答案】24.C 25.D 26.C 27.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第一段中的“Experts say that skipping your dog’s walk can significantly affect your dog’s emotional and physical well-being.(专家表示,不带狗散步会严重影响狗的情感和身体健康)”可知,本段的目的是介绍遛狗的重要性。故选C。 25. 根据第二段中““Unless you’re spending time playing with your dog, they’re just going to sit there,” she says, “because the space is familiar.”(“除非你花时间和你的狗玩,否则它们就会坐在那里,”她说,“因为这个地方它们很熟悉。”)”和下文“She compared it to reading the same book over and over again or seeking enrichment by hanging out in your bathroom.(她把它比作一遍又一遍地读同一本书,或者在浴室里闲逛来寻求充实)”可知,“it”指待在一个熟悉的环境中。故选D。 26. 根据第三段中“Dogs whose needs are not met are subjected to some of the same effects of long-term chronic stress on their health as people experience, ranging from depression and anxiety to problems with the immune system.(犬只如果需求得不到满足,会受到与人类长时间慢性压力相似的健康影响,包括抑郁、焦虑以及免疫系统问题)”可知,狗不仅仅需要体力活动,他们还需要心理上的满足和主人的陪伴来保持健康。故选C。 27. 根据第一段中“Experts say that skipping your dog’s walk can significantly affect your dog’s emotional and physical well-being.(专家表示,不带狗散步会严重影响狗的情感和身体健康)”和最后一段中“So, next time you want to skip your dog’s walk, think twice!(所以,下次当你想跳过狗的散步时,请三思!)” A。 C Firstly, Mohiuddin was looking at global environmental issues with the hope of finding one that his entrepreneurial (企业家的) spirit could deal with. He would finally focus on plastic use, the overreliance on it in society, and the dangers of plastic pollution in the form of microplastic particles (颗粒). In particular, he wanted to find an alternative to one of the most common plastic products used today: the plastic shopping bag. According to The Better India, he started studying a biodegradable polymer (生物可降解聚合物) that was first formed and researched in the 1980s called PBAT. At the time, it was made with corn and potatoes. After identifying a suitable class of machinery to produce the PBAT bags in Gujarat, his speech on PBAT received nearly $100,000 in seed funding that allowed him to start the project. “I tried to balance both my studies and the operations of the company—from collecting raw material, helping workers to produce bags, to delivering the products in the market,” Mohiuddin told The Better India. “I used to sleep in a corner in the factory.” Overcoming bankruptcy (破产), university studies, and long-term unfinished orders, Mohiuddin’s startup company finally started to make profits, and today produces almost 500,000 bags per year, with a total revenue of $ 180,000. “I am glad I am able to contribute my part. Not having a normal college life can be tiring sometimes, but in the end, it is all worth it. I feel content when I go back to sleep. But much more needs to be done to make India plastic-free, and I will continue to strive for it,” he adds. 28.What is the primary focus of Mohiuddin’s entrepreneurial efforts? A.To develop replacements to plastic shopping bags. B.To improve traditional plastic products. C.To promote the use of corn in producing. D.To lengthen the use of plastic shopping bags. 29.What was the result of Mohiuddin’s speech on PBAT? A.He received a sum of money for his studies. B.He gained the fund to start his project. C.He got to know many investors. D.He decided to put off the project. 30.What can be inferred about Mohiuddin from paragraph 3? A.He solved many kinds of environmental issues. B.He was willing to lose personal comfort for his goals. C.He considered learning more important than business. D.He sought advice from experts for developing his business. 31.How does Mohiuddin feel about the progress he has made? A.Confused. B.Regretful. C.Satisfied. D.Challenged. 根据文章第一段“He would finally focus on plastic use, the overreliance on it in society, and the dangers of plastic pollution in the form of microplastic particles (颗粒). In particular, he wanted to find an alternative to one of the most common plastic products used today: the plastic shopping bag.(他最后关注的是塑料的使用,社会对塑料的过度依赖,以及微塑料颗粒形式的塑料污染的危险。他特别想找到一种替代品,来替代如今最常用的塑料产品之一:塑料购物袋)”可知,Mohiuddin创业努力的主要重点是开发塑料购物袋的替代品。故选A。 29. 根据文章第二段“After identifying a suitable class of machinery to produce the PBAT bags in Gujarat, his speech on PBAT received nearly $100,000 in seed funding that allowed him to start the project.(在确定了在古吉拉特邦生产PBAT袋的合适机器类别后,他关于PBAT的演讲获得了近10万美元的种子基金,使他得以启动这个项目)”可知,在Mohiuddin关于PBAT的演讲后,他获得了启动他的项目的资金。故选B。 30. 根据文章第三段““I tried to balance both my studies and the operations of the company — from collecting raw material, helping workers to produce bags, to delivering the products in the market,” Mohiuddin told The Better India. “I used to sleep in a corner in the factory.”(“我试图平衡我的学习和公司的运作——从收集原材料,帮助工人生产袋子,到向市场运送产品,”Mohiuddin告诉《更好的印度》。“我以前睡在工厂的一个角落里。”)”可推知,Mohiuddin为了实现自己的目标,宁愿放弃自己的舒适而奋斗。故选B。 31.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段““I am glad I am able to contribute my part. Not having a normal college life can be tiring sometimes, but in the end, it is all worth it. I feel content when I go back to sleep. But much more needs to be done to make India plastic-free, and I will continue to strive for it,” he adds.(“我很高兴我能贡献我的一部分。没有正常的大学生活有时会很累,但最终,这一切都是值得的。当我再次入睡时,我感到很满足。但要使印度摆脱塑料污染还有很多工作要做,我将继续为此而努力,”他补充说)”可知,Mohiuddin对于自己取得的进步很满足。故选C。 D For more than 15 years, I’ve traveled to different parts of the world, where I take out rotten meat and wait for flies to appear. My research is related to understanding how an environment influences a fly’s ability to search for and find its food source, its single purpose of living. For example, flies rely on wind to carry scents(气味) across varying environments. Warmer temperatures promote fly activity because they’re poikilothermic — meaning cold-blooded — and need heat to warm up their muscles for flight. Flies use visual cues(信号) to fly through the air and to avoid barriers, so they’re more active during the daytime. Blow flies can travel up to 28 miles for food. Most of the time when I set a piece of bad-smelling rotten meat, a large group of flies will come right away. But other times I’m surprised when no flies come to enjoy the big meal I’ve prepared. When a female fly smells something that might be a good food source for her babies, she lands on it and assesses whether there’s enough to support her 400 or so eggs, which means life and death for her babies. A mom fly’s ability to smell out a good “home” for her babies is the key to the survival of the species and ultimately why this sense is so strong. Male flies are less interested in these smells as a sign of food. But since they can signal where to find female flies for mating, males will still respond to the scent of a steaming trash can. Flies have evolved(进化) to be superior trash-smellers because this superpower helps them survive. The reason why they manage to find trash cans wherever they exist is the same reason why they’ll show up to your picnic to check what’s on the menu — they’re looking for food that will help them create the next generation of flies. 32.What may be the reason why no flies come to the author’s “big meal”? A.There’s no wind blowing. B.The flies are not hungry. C.The “big meal” is not smelly enough. D.The distance is out of the flies’ reach. 33.When do flies tend to be most active? A.On warm nights. B.In the daytime of cold days. C.On rainy nights. D.In the daytime of warm days. 34.What is the decisive factor for the female flies to choose the egg-laying site? A.The quantity of the food sources. B.The availability of shelter and protection. C.The temperature of the environment. D.The presence of other female flies around. 35.What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs? A.Male flies hardly respond to the trash can. B.Picnic attracts female flies more than male ones. C.Both male and female flies are sensitive to food smells. D.Female flies are usually the first to show up at a picnic site. 【答案】32.A 33.D 34.A 35.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第一段中的“For example, flies rely on wind to carry scents(气味) across varying environments.(例如,苍蝇依靠风在不同的环境中携带气味)”并结合第三段“Blow flies can travel up to 28 miles for food. Most of the time when I set a piece of bad- smelling rotten meat, a large group of flies will come right away. But other times I’m surprised when no flies come to enjoy the big meal I’ve prepared.(苍蝇可以飞行28英里寻找食物。很多时候,我一放一块臭气熏天的烂肉,马上就会飞来一大群苍蝇。但有时我很惊讶,没有苍蝇来享受我准备的大餐)”可推知,有时候,作者准备了“大餐”,而苍蝇却没有来赴宴的原因,很可能是当时没有风来传播食物的气味。故选A。 33. 根据第二段中的“Warmer temperatures promote fly activity because they’re poikilothermic — meaning cold- blooded — and need heat to warm up their muscles for flight. Flies use visual cues(信号) to fly through the air and to avoid barriers, so they’re more active during the daytime.(温暖的气温促进了苍蝇的活动,因为它们是冷血动物,需要热量来加热它们的肌肉,以便飞行。苍蝇利用视觉线索在空中飞行,避开障碍物,所以它们在白天更活跃)”可知,在天气温暖的白天,蝇类的活动最为活跃。故选D。 34.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“When a female fly smells something that might be a good food source for her babies, she lands on it and assesses whether there’s enough to support her 400 or so eggs, which means life and death for her babies.(当雌蝇闻到某种可能适合她幼虫的食物来源时,她会落在上面,评估是否有足够的食物来支撑她的大约400个卵。这关系到她幼虫的生死存亡)”可知,食物的量对雌蝇选择产卵地点有决定性的影响。故选A。 35. 根据倒数第二段中的“But since they can signal where to find female flies for mating, males will still respond to the scent of a steaming trash can.(但由于它们可以发出信号,在哪里可以找到雌性苍蝇进行交配,雄性苍蝇仍然会对冒着热气的垃圾桶的气味做出反应)”以及最后一段中“Flies have evolved(进化) to be superior trash-smellers because this superpower helps them survive.(苍蝇进化出了卓越的垃圾嗅觉能力,因为这种超能力帮助它们生存)”可知,虽然苍蝇关注食物源头的目的不同,但是雄蝇和雌蝇都具有对食物气味敏感的超级功能。 Embracing a Green Lifestyle Living a green lifestyle is not only beneficial for the environment but also for your health and wallet. Today was a big day — her first day of elementary school. I packed her lunch in a bright, reusable lunchbox, the same kind my mother used to pack for me when I was a student. “Mom, why can’t I use a plastic lunchbox like the other kids?” Emma asked, her small face frowning in confusion. I knelt down to her level, moving a piece of hair out of her face. “This lunchbox is part of our family tradition, sweetheart. When I was your age, your grandmother would pack my lunch in a similar container every day.” “But why, Mom?” she persisted(坚持不懈). “Isn’t it easier to just throw away a plastic lunchbox?” I smiled and remembered my own school days, feeling frustrated(沮丧的)that I couldn’t just use a disposable(一次性的)box like everyone else. My mother would patiently explain, “We have to start with small actions, Mija. These little things add up to make a big difference.” I remembered feeling out of place at school as my friends casually threw their plastic boxes into the trash, while I carefully saved my containers to take back home. It wasn’t untill was older that I fully appreciated the lesson my mother was teaching me. Then I patiently explained to Emma, “Your grandmother always said that we have to take care of our planet. By using these reusable lunchboxes, we help reduce waste and protect the environment. It’s a small way to make a big difference.” Emma looked at the lunchbox thoughtfully. “So, do I have to wash it after I eat?” “Yes,” I nodded. “It’s important to take care of it and bring it back home so we can use it again. It’s not just about the lunchbox, Emma. It’s about learning to be responsible and thinking about how our actions affect the world around us.” As I walked Emma to the school bus, I put the lunchbox into her hands and told her it was special once again.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Later that evening, I heard Emma’s excited voice in the kitchen.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】As I walked Emma to the school bus, I put the lunchbox into her hands and told her it was special once again. “You carry this with pride, honey. it’s a symbol of our love for the earth and our responsibility to take care of it.” She nodded, a determined look on her young face. As the bus drove away, I stood there, hoping and praying that she would truly grasp the significance of our family tradition and the impact it could have on our planet. A.A food advertisement. B.A biological survey report. C.A science fiction novel. D.A news article on technology. B According to a 2011 study from Michigan State University, only two-thirds of the subjects surveyed routinely walked their dogs. A.Why Dogs Need Routine Walks B.How to Train Your Dog to Walk C.The Benefits of Raising Dogs D.The Importance of Dog Training C Firstly, Mohiuddin was looking at global environmental issues with the hope of finding one that his entrepreneurial (企业家的) spirit could deal with. D For more than 15 years, I’ve traveled to different parts of the world, where I take out rotten meat and wait for flies to appear. Embracing a Green Lifestyle Living a green lifestyle is not only beneficial for the environment but also for your health and wallet. It’s about learning to be responsible and thinking about how our actions affect the world around us.” As I walked Emma to the school bus, I put the lunchbox into her hands and told her it was special once again.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Later that evening, I heard Emma’s excited voice in the kitchen.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ( 1 )原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究!
