Let’s have a look at its main sights. D。 B  When Emma Yang was 8, her grandmother became increasingly forgetful. Over the next few years, those memory problems caused by early Alzheimer’s disease (阿尔茨海默病) worsened. Yang, who learned to code at an early age, decided to create an app to help. “I have personal experience with how the disease can affect not only the patient, but also family and friends. When I was about 11 or 12, I got really interested in using technology for social good to help other people around the world,” says Yang, who is now 14. In her app under development, called Timeless, Alzheimer’s patients can scroll through (上下滚动) photos of friends and family, and the app will tell them who the people are and how they’re related to the patient. If a patient doesn’t recognize people in the same room, they can take a picture and the technology will also try to recognize them. The app also includes a simple contacts screen that shows photos of family members along with names. If a patient tries to call a contact repeatedly — something that can sometimes happen because of the disease — the app will show a quick reminder: “Are you sure you want to call? You just called less than five minutes ago.” A “me” page shows the patient’s own name, age, phone number, and address. The app is still in development, and Yang doesn’t yet have evidence that it will work. But she is optimistic that it can help, especially if introduced to someone in the early stages of the disease. Katherine Possin, an associate professor at the UCSF Memory and Aging Center, agrees, “It can be hard for somebody who has a lot of memory problems to learn a new technology.” Possin says. “But if somebody is in the early stages of the disease, and if the app is simple enough, it’s possible that they can learn to use it through repetition and practice.” 4. Why did Emma Yang come up with the idea of creating the app? A. Because she decided to develop some codes. B. Because she suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. C. Because she was inspired by her grandma’s case. D. Because she wished to use technology to help people. 5. According to Emma Yang, what can the app do? A. Scroll through photos. B. Make a phone call. C. Contact family members. D. Remind personal information. 6. What do we know about the app? A. It works well. B. It is convenient. C. It is under research. D. It has good memory. 7. What’s Katherine Possin’s attitude to the app? A. Favorable. B. Doubtful. C. Critical. D. Concerned. 4. C 5. D 6. C 7. Over the next few years, those memory problems caused by early Alzheimer’s disease (阿尔茨海默病) worsened. Yang, who learned to code at an early age, decided to create an app to help.(艾玛·杨8岁时,她的祖母变得越来越健忘。 根据第三段第四句“A “me” page shows the patient’s own name, age, phone number, and address.(“我”页面显示患者的姓名、年龄、电话号码和地址)”可知,该程序能够显示患者个人信息。 根据第三段倒数第二句“The app is still in development, and Yang doesn’t yet have evidence that it will work.(该应用程序仍在开发中,Yang还没有证据表明它会起作用)”可知,这个程序还在研究开发阶段,还未被实际运用起来。 根据最后一段“Katherine Possin, an associate professor at the UCSF Memory and Aging Center, agrees, “It can be hard for somebody who has a lot of memory problems to learn a new technology.” Possin says. “But if somebody is in the early stages of the disease, and if the app is simple enough, it’s possible that they can learn to use it through repetition and practice.”(加州大学旧金山分校记忆与衰老中心副教授Katherine Possin也同意这一观点,“对于一个有很多记忆问题的人来说,学习一项新技术可能很难。” 故选A项。 C  CPR (心肺复苏术) saves lives. It can really change someone’s life, as I found out for myself three years ago. On October 14, 2009, my mom had an accident while playing soccer and was taken to hospital. The next morning, I was told that my mom had had a cardiac arrest I later learned that two players on the opposing team kept breathing air into my mother’s mouth and pressing her chest for seven minutes, as they waited for the ambulance to arrive. My mom stayed in the hospital for only ten days. I know that I am very lucky to have my mom here, because most people who have cardiac arrests and do not receive CPR within the first six minutes die. My mom has used this experience to spread the word about CPR. She joined the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Support Group, which was set up to help survivors and their families through a difficult experience. The support group also takes part in the Heart Walk every year, raising money for the American Heart Association. And she attends Lobby Day each year, convincing the New York State Legislature to pass a law that would make basic CPR and first-aid training a graduation requirement for high school students. This task is not as difficult as it may first appear to be. Every student in New York State must take health class in order to graduate. Just one or two days of health class each year will ensure that every student in the state will learn this important skill. This training is also nearly free. There is no need for a professional CPR instructor because the American Heart Association has online videos that show the newest techniques in CPR. Also, most local EMS services will lend training models to schools. My mom and her fellow survivors go to a high school each year to talk to the students about the importance of learning CPR. This training will not get you the official CPR certification (证书), but as my mom says, “You don’t need a little card to save someone’s life.” 8. How does the author feel about the two players? A. Deeply grateful. B. Quite concerned. C. A bit sorry. D. Rather frightened. 9 In what way did the author’s mother change? A. She made efforts to improve CPR. B. She realized the key importance of law. C. She paid more attention to her health. D. She became an active CPR supporter. 10. What does Paragraph 4 say about the CPR training for students? A. It may be turned down by a lot of students. B. It requires little time and money. C. It will become a graduation requirement. D. It is difficult and dangerous. 11. What might the author’s mother agree with? A. It is challenging for many students to master CPR skills. B. Every graduate should get an official CPR certification. C. CPR skills are more important than CPR certifications. D. High schools should make a special card for CPR learners. A 9. D 10. B 11. 根据第二段中的“I later learned that two players on the opposing team kept breathing air into my mother’s mouth and pressing her chest for seven minutes, as they waited for the ambulance to arrive.(我后来了解到,在等待救护车到来的过程中,对方球队的两名队员一直向我母亲的嘴里吸气并按压她的胸部长达7分钟。 )”和“I know that I am very lucky to have my mom here, because most people who have cardiac arrests and do not receive CPR within the first six minutes die.(我知道我很幸运我的妈妈在这里,因为大多数心脏骤停的人没有在最初的六分钟内接受心肺复苏术就会死亡。)” 故选A。 根据第三段中的“My mom has used this experience to spread the word about CPR. She joined the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Support Group, which was set up to help survivors and their families through a difficult experience.(我妈妈利用这次经历来宣传心肺复苏术。 根据第四段中的“Just one or two days of health class each year will ensure that every student in the state will learn this important skill. This training is also nearly free.(每年只要上一到两天的健康课,就能确保该州的每个学生都能学习这项重要的技能。 根据最后一段中的“This training will not get you the official CPR certification (证书), but as my mom says, “You don’t need a little card to save someone’s life.”(这次培训不会让你获得官方的CPR认证,但就像我妈妈说的,“你不需要一张小卡片就能拯救一个人的生命。” C。 D Soon, every seat on an airplane could be a window seat! New concept designs are revealing how travelers will be able to gaze at the stars above in future airplanes. Aerospace giant Airbus is showing off its vision of next-gen cabins, which include an all-round view of clouds as you jet through them. The Airspace Cabin Vision 2035+ concept also lets passengers tap on smart interactive windows that show travel time and let you explore your destination city. The French company also says passengers will enjoy a greater choice of meals thanks to new pre-ordering concepts. They believe that, by collecting your meal at the gate, food and packaging waste could be reduced by up to 15 percent. The company explains their ethos is “to reduce emissions at heart”. “Right now, research shows the cabin can contribute between 10% and 20% to the aircraft’s overall environmental impact during its lifecycle,” Airbus officials write. “Putting a focus on reducing this, Airbus brought together ten airlines and eight technology companies to feed into a vision that rethinks the way the cabin should look and feel, maintaining superior passenger comfort.” Airbus found that one of the biggest levers (手段) in the cabin for reducing emissions is lightweight solutions. To achieve this, efforts should be focused on creating lighter “bionic designs” that will help reduce cabin weight by up to 40 percent. “As the world shifts to a more circular (循环的) economy, we are rethinking the materials used inside the cabin so they’re able to be recycled, reused and repaired during their lifecycle. This is also a key part of the 2035+ vision,” Airbus officials explain. “Cabin lining and components will be developed for current aircraft using new materials and a complete introduction of these will be rolled out with the next generation aircraft.” 12. My family had been planning a yard sale for several weeks. Our five-year-old son, Braxton, asked if he could set up a lemonade (柠檬水) stand during the yard sale. He wanted to make a little money and save up to buy a set of Lego bricks, which might add up to $100. “I will earn it myself!” he declared proudly. He had been talking about it almost non-stop and couldn’t wait for the day to finally arrive. Two days ago, we put up the sign “Yard Sale” in front of the driveway, telling neighbors about the time and items. On the very day, Braxton woke up early at 6:00 am and couldn’t hide his excitement. After setting everything out for the yard sale, he made the lemonade and baked some cookies to begin his business adventure. After about an hour or more, we had several customers, but Braxton still had not sold any lemonade. He was a little sad. Then a young woman walked up with her baby to browse the items. While making small talk, we told her about Braxton’s plan to save his money for his little dream. She then selected a couple of baby toys for just $6 and paid with a $10 bill. “Keep the change, boy!” she said gently. Braxton offered to give her the lemonade and cookies he made. He couldn’t have been happier to receive his first little bit of money for the day. The woman left with the baby toys, the lemonade and some cookies. We didn’t give it much thought after that, but the story didn’t end there. Several minutes passed and the woman returned. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Holding the envelope and the bill, we were so moved. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: Several minutes passed and the woman returned. “Is there anything wrong?” I thought to myself. I actually thought she was here to ask for her change back. Of course, I couldn’t have been more wrong. She was carrying an envelope this time. She handed it to us and said, “The lemonade and cookies are so delicious that I want to buy all of them. I hope you can give them away to whoever passes by your stand for me.” We thanked her and she walked away. We opened the envelope after she left and found a $100 bill in it. Paragraph 2: Holding the envelope and the bill, we were so moved. It was just a random act of kindness by a total stranger that would make a little five-year-old boy’s wish come true. At the same time, she delivered that kindness to other strangers by offering them lemonade and cookies for free. She obviously did not do it for praise or recognition. She just did it out of the kindness of her heart. Contrary to what some may think, the positivity in this world really does outweigh the negativity. There are good people around us doing good deeds, asking for nothing back. 词汇激活 行为类 ①打开:open/unfold ②赠送:give away/present ③实现:make sth. come true /realize 情绪类 ①赞美:praise/compliment ②积极:positivity/optimism 【点睛】[高分句型1] The lemonade and cookies are so delicious that I want to buy all of them. D Remind personal information. 6. What do we know about the app? A. It works well. B. It is convenient. C. It is under research. D. It has good memory. 7. What’s Katherine Possin’s attitude to the app? A. Favorable. B. Doubtful. C. Critical. D. Concerned. C  CPR (心肺复苏术) saves lives. 9. In what way did the author’s mother change? D Soon, every seat on an airplane could be a window seat! They believe that by collecting your meal at the gate, food and packaging waste could be reduced by up to 15 percent. The company explains their ethos is “to reduce emissions at heart”. “Right now research shows the cabin can contribute between 10% and 20% to the aircraft’s overall environmental impact during its lifecycle,” Airbus officials write. What can we know about the next-gen cabins from the first two paragraphs? A. They will be made of glasses. B. They will shorten travel time greatly. C. They will reduce food waste to some extent. D. They will provide whatever food passengers want. 13. What does the underlined word “ethos” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Advice. B. Fer. C. Loss. D. Idea. 14. What can be inferred about the future materials used inside the cabin? A. They are cheaper. B. They are more eco-friendly. C. They are more convenient. D. They are more available. 15. What is the purpose of the passage? A. To advertise some new flights. B. To call on people to live a greener life. C. To introduce new design ideas of a plane. D. To explain how to make planes smarter. Safety should be a top priority (优先考虑的事) in the classroom, so teachers must keep a plentiful stock of appropriate medical supplies and make sure their first aid procedures are up to date. ___16___ So, it’s essential for teachers to be prepared for common classroom injuries.
