B It’s reported that about 20 percent of the Amazon rainforest has disappeared during the past 50 years. Deforestation is not only threatening the millions of unique plant and animal species native to the Amazon River area, it’s affecting humans worldwide. When it comes to the protection of the Amazon, it’s hard for many people to relate because they don’t feel connected to the area. There are actually a lot of direct connections, no matter how far away we are. A connection that affects everyone on the planet is climate (气候) change. Planting new trees in the forest is basically a way of removing CO2 from the air. Rain forests have a carbon (碳) reduction nearly equal to half of what is in the air. About half of that is in the Amazon. Another case in point is a big snake called the bushmaster that lives in the Amazon. Today, millions of people use medicines made from its venom (毒液) to treat high blood pressure. So they have longer, fuller, and more productive lives. In the 1960s, there was only one highway in the entire Amazon. That’s an area as large as the continental United States with one highway and three million people. Today, there are between 30 million to 40 million people, countless roads, and about 20 percent forests have been cut down. But on the plus side, 50 years ago there were only two national parks and a national forest and a reserve in Brazil. Today, more than 50 percent of the Amazon is under some form of protection. “There’s been a lot of damage done and forest lost, but nothing is gone until it’s gone”, noted National Geographic explorer Dr. Thomas Lovejoy. “We want to see more shared planning between the departments of transportation, energy, agriculture, and the other industries in the area. We think Amazon cities can have higher quality of life and keep people in existing cities so there’s less reason to deforest.” 24. Which can replace the underlined word “Deforestation” in paragraph 1? A. Planting more trees. B. Destroying the forests. C. Protecting the species. D. Polluting the rivers. 25. What might the partial loss of the Amazon rainforest lead to? A. The increase of extreme weather. B. The removal of CO2. C. More people with high blood pressure. D. The overgrowth of the bushmaster. 26. How does paragraph 3 mainly develop? A. By making comparisons. B. By listing reasons. C. By explaining a definition. D. By making a summary. 27. What is Dr. Thomas’ attitude towards the future of the Amazon rainforest? A. Doubtful. B. Worried. C. Positive. D. Uncaring. C Standing on the South Pole at the start of the year with the wind blowing across the Antarctic, travel blogger Johnny Ward felt a wave of relief. Just a week before, in early January 2024, he’d struggled through snow and ice to climb to the top of the Vinson Massif, Antarctica’s highest peak. Years before, in 2017, he’d become the first Irish person to visit every country in the world. Now, after decades of traveling and mountaineering, Ward could claim another world first — the Ultimate Explorer’s Grand Slam (大满贯), which involves reaching the highest peak on every continent, and visiting both the North and South Poles in addition to visiting every country. “I feel relieved,” Ward recalled as he slowly made his way back to his home in Thailand after climbing to the top of the Vinson Massif and then setting foot on the South Pole. “But also I’m aware I’m a normal guy, not a world-class athlete, so I guess it was more about resilience and determination more than any ability. Although I met with lots of barriers, I overcame them one by one.” Ward had previously devoted a decade of his life, between 2007 and 2017, to visiting every country in the world. The incredible journey saw him hitchhike (搭便车) a ride on a container ship from Oman to Socotra in Yemen, travel overland from Cairo to Cape Town and travel from South Korea to Australia by bus and boat. “It had been a huge life goal, over a decade of my life, and then when I finished that I was aimless and had no idea what to do next,” he said. “I started eating badly, drinking too much, putting on weight and I ignored my business.” Ward decided that the best way to overcome this was to challenge himself again. He began running ultramarathons (超级马拉松) and climbing mountains, and soon found that with extreme purpose and direction, he was back to loving life again. So where will Ward go next? Space? The bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest point of the ocean? “All good things come after suffering, and I want to share that with people. So that’s the next plan,” he said. 28. What did Johnny Ward achieve in early January 2024? A He climbed to the highest peak in Antarctica. B. He set a new record for traveling in Antarctica. C. He became the first person to visit the South Pole. D. He became the first Irish person to visit every country. 29. What does the underlined word “resilience” in Paragraph 4 refer to? A. The ability to bounce back from difficulties. B. The quality of being strong and honest. C. The skill of achieving goals quickly. D. The power to control one’ s emotions. 30. How did Johnny Ward feel after achieving his life goal in 2017? A. Relaxed. B. Satisfied. C. Lost. D. Excited. 31. Which of the following can best describe Johnny Ward? A. Helpful and motivated. B. Athletic and generous. C. Proud and self-centered. D. Determined and strong-willed. D Natural disasters like earthquakes and storms can pull down buildings easily. It's difficult for the search and rescue teams (搜救队) to find those who are trapped (陷于困境) in the fallen buildings. But an unlikely assistant, mice, is being trained up to help out. The project started by Belgian APOPO, is planning to tie tiny, high-tech backpacks to mice to help search for survivors (幸存者). “Mice like to explore — and that is key for search and rescue.” said Donna Kean, a scientist and leader of the project.“ Besides, their small size and excellent sense of smell make them perfect for locating (定位) things in small spaces.” The mice are being trained in a basic environment at present. They must first locate the target (目标) person in an empty room, pull a switch that starts an alarm on their clothes, and then return home, where they are given a treat. For the next part of training, Kean said the team would create “disaster-similar areas”. Once the mice are confident in these areas, the project will move to Turkey for further preparation in more real environments. If that goes well, the mice would probably enter real- life situations. The mice are still in the early progress of training. And APOPO is working with the Eindhoven University of Technology to develop a backpack with a video camera, a two-way microphone, and a locating tool to help communicate with survivors. “Together with the backpack and the training, the mice are very useful for search and rescue,” said Kean. “Even if our mice find just one survivor, we would be happy to know they have made a difference somewhere.” 32. According to the passage, What’s the reason for mice to be chosen for search and rescue? ① Because their nature of exploring. ② Because their small sizes. ③ Because their ability to smell something. ④ Because their perfect eyesight in the dark. A. ①②③ B. ①③④ C. ②③④ D. ①②④ 33. Which paragraph tells how the mice are trained? A. Paragraph 1. B. Paragraph 2. C. Paragraph 3. D. Paragraph 4. 34. What can we learn from the passage? A. Donna Kean is a survivor in an earthquake. B. The mice are being trained in real-life situations. C. APOPO scientists haven’t invented the high-tech backpack. D. The mice are often given a treat before they complete the task. 35. What does Donna Kean think of the project? A. Nervous. B. Interesting. C. Hopeful. D. Impossible. How to Stop Being a People Pleaser As a recovering people pleaser, I spent much of my life keeping others happy. Our family of ten depended on the food we grew in our huge vegetable garden. My mother canned (把……装进罐中) much of the produce for winter, and my father sold potatoes and cabbages to the local stores and schools. Our garden was the pride of the neighborhood. But then, one summer when I was quite young, we had a problem. Someone was stealing our vegetables. My parents were quite surprised. “I don’t get it,” my father said. “If someone wants vegetables from us, all they have to do is ask. If they can’t afford to pay for them, they could just have them.” Then one of the neighbors tipped us off that a single elderly man who lived a short distance from us was seen selling vegetables in a nearby town. Benny didn’t have a garden, had no regular job and lived in a small, poor house. My parents found out he was taking our vegetables to earn a few extra dollars. And later, they found it was true. My father decided to deal with this situation in his own way. One day, he told my mother that he’d go to hire (雇用) Benny. My mother was surprised, saying, “We don’t have enough money to hire anyone. Besides, why would we hire the man who’s taking our vegetables?” My father replied that he was going to hire him to guard our garden. My mother was confused and didn’t think it would work. My father explained, “Here’s what I think. Benny has got himself backed into a corner, and I’m going to give him a way out. I think he can’t refuse me. And he sure can’t take the vegetables that he’s guarding.” When my father told him about the job, Benny was obviously a bit shocked. But Dad solved it pretty well. “Benny,” he said, “someone, probably some kid, has been taking vegetables out of our garden. I wonder if I could hire you to guard the garden.” Then Dad added that he would also have breakfast with us every day. Thinking for a moment, he gladly nodded and smiled, “All right.” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dad then began to create a vegetable garden for Benny. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $第一部分听力。 Hi, miss Green, i'm sorry I failed your subject again. Hear. that meant having the engine on. So I only used IT a bit. Instead, I got all of my jumpers and trousers from my suitcases and war them all night. I was still terribly cold though, and wish I had some coffee or tea with me. So you spent the whole night inside the car? Yes, I managed to contact the emergency services. Finally, they knew my location from my phone signal. They'd called to ask if I needed an ambuLance, and luckily I didn't needed. So they had just clear the snow and let me along the road, back to the main road. So, Olivia, tell us how that happened. A. Doubtful. B. Worried. C. Positive. D. Uncaring. B 25. A 26. A 27. 根据划线词上文“It’s reported that about 20 percent of the Amazon rainforest has disappeared during the past 50 years.(据报道,在过去的50年里,大约20%的亚马逊雨林已经消失了)”可知,在过去的50年里,大约20%的亚马逊雨林已经消失了,说明亚马逊雨林的森林遭到了破坏。 根据第二段“A connection that affects everyone on the planet is climate (气候) change. Planting new trees in the forest is basically a way of removing CO2 from the air. Rain forests have a carbon (碳) reduction nearly equal to half of what is in the air. About half of that is in the Amazon. 故选A。 根据第三段“In the 1960s, there was only one highway in the entire Amazon. That’s an area as large as the continental United States with one highway and three million people. Today, there are between 30 million to 40 million people, countless roads, and about 20 percent forests have been cut down. But on the plus side, 50 years ago there were only two national parks and a national forest and a reserve in Brazil. Today, more than 50 percent of the Amazon is under some form of protection.(20世纪60年代,整个亚马逊地区只有一条高速公路。这是一个和美国大陆一样大的地区,有一条高速公路和300万人口。今天,这里有3000万到4000万人口,无数的道路,大约20%的森林被砍伐。但好的一面是,50年前,巴西只有两个国家公园,一个国家森林和一个保护区。今天,超过50%的亚马逊雨林处于某种形式的保护之下)”可知,第3段主要是通过比较展开。故选A。 根据最后一段“We want to see more shared planning between the departments of transportation, energy, agriculture, and the other industries in the area. We think Amazon cities can have higher quality of life and keep people in existing cities so there’s less reason to deforest.(我们希望看到交通、能源、农业和该地区其他行业部门之间有更多的共享规划。我们认为亚马逊城市可以拥有更高的生活质量,让人们留在现有的城市,这样就没有理由砍伐森林了)”可推知,托马斯博士对亚马逊雨林的未来持积极态度。故选C。 C Standing on the South Pole at the start of the year with the wind blowing across the Antarctic, travel blogger Johnny Ward felt a wave of relief. A. He climbed to the highest peak in Antarctica. A 29. A 30. C 31. 根据第二段“Just a week before, in early January 2024, he’d struggled through snow and ice to climb to the top of the Vinson Massif, Antarctica’s highest peak. (就在一周前,也就是2024年1月初,他艰难地穿过冰雪,登上了南极洲最高峰文森峰的顶峰。)”可知,2024年1月初,约翰尼·沃德登上了南极洲最高峰文森峰的顶峰。故选A。 根据第四段“But also I’m aware I’m a normal guy, not a world-class athlete, so I guess it was more about resilience and determination more than any ability. Although I met with lots of barriers, I overcame them one by one. (但我也知道我是一个普通人,不是世界级的运动员,所以我想这更多的是关于resilience和决心,而不是任何能力。尽管我遇到了很多障碍,但我一个接一个地克服了它们。)”可知,这里描述约翰尼·沃德在克服一个又一个困难时具备的品质,应该是有能力一次又一次的面对并解决困难,所以resilience的意思应该是“恢复力”,和选项A意思一致。故选A。 根据第六段““It had been a huge life goal, over a decade of my life, and then when I finished that I was aimless and had no idea what to do next,” he said. “I started eating badly, drinking too much, putting on weight and I ignored my business.”(他说:“这是我十多年来的一个巨大的人生目标,当我完成这一目标时,我毫无目标,不知道下一步该做什么。我开始吃得不好,喝太多酒,体重增加,我忽视了我的生意。”)”可知,约翰尼·沃德在2017年实现人生目标后变得没有目标了,很迷茫。故选C。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“Although I met with lots of barriers, I overcame them one by one. (尽管我遇到了很多障碍,但我一个接一个地克服了它们。)”,第五段“Ward had previously devoted a decade of his life, between 2007 and 2017, to visiting every country in the world. The incredible journey saw him hitchhike (搭便车) a ride on a container ship from Oman to Socotra in Yemen, travel overland from Cairo to Cape Town and travel from South Korea to Australia by bus and boat. (沃德之前曾在2007年至2017年期间花了十年时间访问世界上的每一个国家。在这段不可思议的旅程中,他搭上了一艘集装箱船,从阿曼到也门的索科特拉,从开罗到开普敦,从韩国乘公共汽车和船到澳大利亚。)”和第七段“Ward decided that the best way to overcome this was to challenge himself again. He began running ultramarathons (超级马拉松) and climbing mountains, and soon found that with extreme purpose and direction, he was back to loving life again. (沃德决定,克服这一问题的最好方法是再次挑战自己。他开始跑超级马拉松和登山,很快发现,带着极端的目标和方向,他又回到了热爱生活的状态。)”可知,约翰尼·沃德克服困难,实现目标登顶南极洲最高峰文森峰的顶峰,之前花了十年时间访问世界上的每一个国家,可得出他是一个很有决心和意志坚强的人。故选D。 D Natural disasters like earthquakes and storms can pull down buildings easily. Our family of ten depended on the food we grew in our huge vegetable garden. My mother canned (把……装进罐中) much of the produce for winter and my father sold potatoes and cabbages to the local stores and schools. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Thinking for a moment, he gladly nodded and smiled. “All right.” Whether Benny slept most of the night wasn’t important. After that day, we didn’t miss vegetables anymore. And each morning, after breakfast, Benny followed us around in the garden and gradually fell in love with gardening. He’d ask questions like: “Why do you plant these carrots here? Why are peas here growing faster than those over there?” My parents patiently answered. One day, Dad suggested helping him create a vegetable garden, which made him glad and grateful. Dad then began to create a vegetable garden for Benny. By the following spring, he had his garden spot, which was ready for planting. Then, my parents gave him various seeds and he began his gardening. One day when passing by, we found the vegetables in his garden were growing very well. And he was so busy tending them that he didn’t have time to guard our garden anymore. I was proud of the new gardener and proud of my remarkable father. 词汇激活 行为类 ①跟随:follow/go after ②忙于:be busy doing/be occupied in 情绪类 ①高兴的:glad/delighted ②感激的:grateful/thankful 【点睛】[高分句型1] One day, Dad suggested helping him create a vegetable garden, which made him glad and grateful.
