Hotels often undergo makeovers. However, few can compete with the Ice hotel in Jukkasjãrvi, Sweden. Carved entirely from “Snice”—a mix of snow and ice—the hotel is rebuilt annually, with each version more impressive than the previous one. The 32nd Ice hotel was open to guests on April 17, 2022.
The must-visit Swedish tourist destination came about accidentally. In 1989, Ice hotel’s founder Yngve Berquist organized an art show to attract tourists to Jukkasjärvi during the chilly winter months. The exhibition, held inside a 5.5-square-metre igloo (冰屋), was a runaway (迅速的) success. Many visitors decided to spend the night, selling out all of Jukkasjärvi’s warm houses. Hence, when a group approached Berquist about a place to spend the night, he offered them the igloo. “To my surprise, the guests were very impressed by the experience the morning after. Ice hotel was born,” Berquist recalls.
The Ice hotel has come a long way since its humble (简陋的)start. Constructed from 1, 000 tons of ice, and 30,000 tons of “Snice”, it now covers an area of over 5, 500 square metres, Preparations for the annual hotel begin in March with the harvesting of 5,000 tons of ice from the nearby Torne River. The ice is kept in cold storage until November when about 100 workers and artists get to work carving out a new structure. Ice hotel is typically open for business by mid-December.
This year’s hotel comprises 36 rooms, including 12 crafted art suites (套间). Decorated with massive ice stones and carved water shapes, it aims to provide visitors with a good nature experience. The “Dickensian Street” suite promises to take visitors on a tour of 19th-century England, complete with cobbled (铺鹅卵石的) streets, shops, and buildings from the era. Guests are advised to stay inside thermal (保暖的) sleeping bags and wear gloves and winter hats all night. Not surprisingly, most move to the conventional, warmer cabins nearby after a single night.
4. When was Sweden’s Ice hotel open for the 22nd time?
A. In 2012. B. In 1992. C. In 1990. D. In 2022.
5. What made Ice hotel come into being?
A Warm houses’ being sold out. B. The special warmth of it.
C. The cheap ticket of it. D. The unique structures of ice.
6. What’s the main idea of the third paragraph?
A. Differences of Ice hotel rebuilt from ever before.
B. The preparations for the annual hotel rebuilt.
C. How the ice is kept in cold storage in Ice hotel.
D. The development and construction of Ice hotel.
7. What can visitors do in Sweden’s Ice hotel?
A. Wear summer clothes even if in winter.
B. Spend nights in modern rooms in warm sleeping bags.
C. Experience 19th-century England in the “Dickensian Street” suite.
D. Taste different kinds of local special food in the Dickensian Street.

Self-confidence is an important quality to develop in your kid. It is associated with better grades, more satisfying personal relationships, better decision making, and greater self-control. Self-confidence is obtained from skills and competencies, experiences, treatment by others and the nature and frequency(频率) of successes and failures. But, self-confidence is also affected by something as simple as how your kids carry themselves as they go about their daily lives. If kids behave more self-confidently, they feel more self-confident. Here are some direct instructions parents can give their kids to help them make it.
To start with, have your kids stand tall and straight with their shoulders back. This is particularly important for teenage girls. It is not unusual for girls to draw their shoulders inward as a way of avoiding dealing with the changes of their bodies. They will need help balance being confident in their bodies.
Self-confident people stand and walk with their hands out and to the side of the body. Some research has provided evidence that placing your hands on your hips(髋部) results in greater decisiveness in business situations. This is sometimes referred to as the super hero stance. Before your kids are about to engage in an activity where self-confidence is required, have them stand like a super hero with their heads held high, their eyes focused on the horizon and their hands on their hips. It can feel kind of silly but will make a difference in their attitude and behaviour.
Finally, your kids need to be aware of how they actually walk. Self-confident people walk with big steps. They take solid steps with their head up, looking where they are going and making direct eye contact with people they encounter.
With a little time and some direct instruction, you can help your teen appear more self-confident which will actually help them feel more self-confident. You are the perfect person for them to practise on. One thing though. It is probably better to address this in private.
8. What will kids fail to gain with more self-confidence?
A. Better marks on the exam. B. Better relationship with others.
C. Greater self-control. D. The strongest bones.
9. What does the underlined word “It” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Standing like a super hero. B. Engaging in an activity.
C. Making eyes focused on a certain thing. D. Holding heads high.
10. What can we know from paragraphs 2-4?
A. Teen girls always stand tall and straight with their shoulders back.
B. Self-confident persons aren’t afraid of straight eye contact.
C. It’s impolite to put your hands on your hips when you talk with others.
D. You should mind your steps when you walk, being careful and slow.
11. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Self-confidence and Body Language B. Self-confidence and Teen Girls
C. Self-confidence and Parents D. Self-confidence and Good Quality
D
Mickey Mouse welcomed visitors to his new home in China on June 16, 2016 as Disney opened its first theme park in the country.
The park, located in the city of Shanghai, opened with fireworks.
Joe Schott, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, said, “I can promise you that there is still so much left to be revealed, and I cannot wait to share it all with you in the months and years to come.”
Tens of thousands streamed into Shanghai Disneyland for its debut(问世), an event that was nearly two decades in the making. The $ 5.5 billion resort(度假胜地) covers 963 acres, but Disney has already begun expansion.
Company officials said they tried to reflect Chinese preferences in the new park.
“We didn’t build Disneyland in China, we built China’s Disneyland,” said Bob Iger, Disney’s chairman.
There’s a traditional Chinese tea house featuring local food. The Lion King performed in Mandarin for the first time, features the Monkey King and characters dressed in Chinese opera garb(服装)to appeal to an Asian audience.
In the castle, guests not only walk through, as they do in other Disney parks, they can also eat and shop. When it was discovered that Chinese people didn’t have a favourite Disney princess, the company decided that the castle would feature all the princesses. Parks in California and France are based on the Sleeping Beauty story.
“The visitors can learn the princesses over time, and this gives them an opportunity to have an introduction to all of the princess stories,” said executive producer Ali Rubinstein.
However, China’s Disneyland sometimes are not closely related to China. Disney’s only animated film based on a Chinese story, Mulan, which tells the tale of a Chinese warrior woman, got neither its own ride nor stage show. The character appears only as a statue and afloat in the parade.
12. What’s Joe Schott’s attitude to Shanghai Disney Resort?
A. Disappointed. B. Concerned. C. Doubtful. D. Confident.
13. What can be learned from what Bob said in paragraph 6?
A. They build the theme park in China.
B. The theme park belongs to China.
C. The theme park has Chinese elements.
D. The theme park has a long Chinese history.
14. Why does China’s Disneyland have all kinds of princesses?
A. Chinese people have no certain favourite Disney princess.
B. Chinese people don’t know any princess characters in Disney movies.
C. Chinese people believe “the more, the better”.
D. Parks in other countries are based on the Sleeping Beauty story.
15. What is the purpose of giving the Mulan example?
A. To show the Chinese character of Disneyland.
B. To show Mulan is an important part of Chinese culture.
C. To show China’s Disneyland has not reflected enough Chinese culture.
D. To show Disneyland has too few Chinese character films.

Do you have dreams, visions or plans about things you’d love to have or achieve? Of course you do! We all do. Unfortunately, dreaming is the easy part. ___16___ The good news is that there are proven techniques that can get you from where you are to where you want to be. Follow this process to bring your dreams to fruition (实现):

When you have a goal, you have a true target. For a greater chance of success, your plan should have a deadline and it must be measurable. ___17___ Give yourself the gift of setting a deadline and things will start to happen. Make your goal as desirable as possible without being unrealistic. If you feel that your goal is unreasonable, it’s much more difficult to encourage yourself to actually pursue it.
Prioritize (优先化) your goal daily.
___18___ You give instructions to your brain thousands of times a day. Let your mind know that your goal is something more important than “I feel like eating a ham sandwich” or “I need to stop at the grocery store on the way home”.
___19___
Difficult goals can rarely be achieved alone; you’re likely to need some help and guidance. Look at the list you made and see what you already have in your life that could help you on your path.
Track your progress.
Measure your progress each day Use old fashioned paper and pencil or take advantage of the latest smartphone app. ___20___ You can only adjust your approach if you know how you’re doing. Consider making a chart if that’s applicable to your goal.
A. Read and write your goal each day.

I was studying for a huge science test when my little brother and sister burst into the kitchen, singing at the top of their lungs: Squirrels in the garden, Squirrels in the tree, I’m a happy squirrel, Look at me…Then, just as soon as they finished, they started singing all over again.
“Wow! That’s a pretty catchy song,” I said after the third time around. But I asked them to stop singing as I was trying to study.
“Sorry, Zona,” said Indi. “But we really do need to keep singing it. Our music teacher said so!”“Yeah,” said Tex. “Our class is putting on a squirrel play for Parents Night, and we have to memorize every single word by Friday!” Indi added that they had to make their own tails and ears and dumped out a bag full of furry costume parts. “Can you help us?”
“Maybe in a little while,” I said. “Right now, I need to read my book.”
Tex and Indi sang that song while they were making their costumes, while they were doing their chores, and even while they were brushing their teeth!
Since Tex and Indi squeaked(吱吱叫)and sang every day that week, I wasn’t as prepared as I wanted to be for my test on Friday. And in the middle of taking my test, the squirrel song started playing over and over in my head. It was almost impossible for me to focus on the last few questions.
When I got home that afternoon, all I wanted to do was collapse on the couch. The only thing was, Tex and Indi had beaten me to it.
“Can you please let me sit too?” I grumbled. “I had a rotten day!”“We had a rotten day too!” said Tex. “Yeah,” said Indi. “A bunch of kids in our class got sick, so tonight’s play is canceled!”
We were just three miserable lumps sitting in silence for a really long time. Even though I had been complaining about their singing, it broke my heart to see them disappointed. They had been so excited about the show.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I said after a while, “I can’t let all of your practicing go to waste.”

【答案】12. D 13. C 14. A 15. C

How to Turn Your Dreams into a Reality
Do you have dreams, visions or plans about things you’d love to have or achieve? Of course you do! We all do. Unfortunately, dreaming is the easy part. ___16___ The good news is that there are proven techniques that can get you from where you are to where you want to be. Follow this process to bring your dreams to fruition (实现):
Turn your dream into a goal.
Measure your progress each day. Use old fashioned paper and pencil or take advantage of the latest smartphone app. ___20___ You can only adjust your approach if you know how you’re doing. Consider making a chart if that’s applicable to your goal.
A. Read and write your goal each day.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】 I said after a while, “I can’t let all of your practicing go to waste.”“We don’t want to waste it, either, but what can we do?”Indi asked helplessly. “We can hold the Parents’ Night by ourselves that can be arranged in our own house.” Hearing my words, Tex and Indi jumped up from the couch excitedly with eyes flashing, “Yes, Zona, you’re right. We can put on the squirrel play for our parents who can be our audience! I believe they will like it!” Indi agreed, turning around cheerfully. In the next few hours, we began to make preparations respectively. Tex and Indi continued to practice the song while making up and I was in charge of setting up the performance hall for the night.
After everything was ready, I arranged for our parents to attend the performance. As the lights went up, two cute little squirrels scampered into the middle of the stage. “Squirrels in the garden, Squirrels in the tree, I’m a happy squirrel, Look at me…Then, just as soon as they finished, they started singing all over again.”While singing at the top of their lungs, Tex and Indi put on a vivid and perfect performance. As the music stopped, our parents stood up in excitement and kept clapping loudly, “What a wonderful permance!Thank you, babies! You’re so great!”Mom praised, “Zona helped us, Mom. It was our joint effort that made us do it.” Indi said, holding my hand happily. “Oh, my dear, you’re the best, I’m proud of you all.” Mom hugged us slightly and gently. The squirrel song started to play over and over in my head again. What a pleasant night!
