China introduced the rural vitalization strategy (乡村振兴战略) in 2017. This strategy focuses on developing rural businesses, creating a pleasant living environment, and improving the living standards of rural residents. In the city of Hangzhou, 27 - year - old Ren Yin, once a teacher, now finds herself immersed in her rural roots in Hongcun village, Zhejiang.
Longing to own a café and answer the country’s call, Ren left her teaching career to open a rural café in 2022. However, her parents were hesitant about her decision. They viewed teaching
as a stable profession and worried that moving back to rural life might “waste her talents”. However, after many internal struggles, Ren chose to follow her heart finally. She contributed her decision to her generation’s characteristics. The one - child family planning policy of 1982 meant that many young people of her age were the only child in their families. This developed a strong sense of individuality and determination in her generation to follow their dreams.
Running a café, of course, turned out to be far from simple. The village offered necessary support to her business. To draw more visitors, Ren turned her café into a cool spot using a repurposed shipping container and served locally sourced drinks like mountain walnut - flavored lattes. She also promoted the café offline and online, hosting bicycle races and motorcycle gatherings.
In fact, Ren understands that long - term success will require more. She hopes the nearby Jinshan Temple’s change into a tourist attraction will improve the local businesses, including her café. Despite the challenges, Ren has no regrets about returning to rural life. “I believe many rural areas in China are waiting to be discovered,” she said.
4. Why does the author mention the rural vitalization strategy in paragraph 1?
A. To explain a concept.
B. To attract readers' interest.
C. To give an example.
D. To provide background information.
5. Why did Ren Yin decide to open a cafe in Hongcun village?
A. She was tired of teaching.
B. She wished to become rich.
C. She wanted to realize her dream.
D. She was encouraged by her parents.
6. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A. The efforts Ren made.
B. The difficulties Ren met.
C. The produce Ren sold.
D. The support Ren received.
7. What can we learn about Ren from the last paragraph?
A. She is unsure about the future challenges.
B. She is hopeful about rural development.
C. She is satisfied with what she has achieved.
D. She is willing to partner with local businesses.

Garvey-Darda is a wildlife biologist with the United States Forest Service. She wants to protect her beloved pikas and other creatures from a common threat: vehicles. The Federal Highway Administration says more than a million roadway accidents involving animals happen each year in the U.S. These collisions (碰撞) hurt wildlife and people.
One solution to this problem? Wildlife crossings. In the U.S. and around the world, bridges and underpasses are being built to help animals safely cross roads.
Banff National Park, in Alberta, Canada, is home to some of the most successful wildlife crossings. Completed in 2014, the crossings include 38 underpasses and six overpasses, or bridges. They prevent the park’s animals, such as grizzly bears and cougars, from being struck while trying to cross the Trans - Canada Highway, which divides the park in half. According to Parks Canada, Banff’s crossing system has reduced collisions with wildlife by more than 80%.
Safe pathways for wildlife have been built in several U.S. states, including Arizona, Utah, and Wyoming. In Washington State, Garvey-Darda is part of a major project. She’s helping to design a set of about 20 wildlife crossings. “Banff has been the best model for us,” she says. The Washington State crossings are being built along a 15-mile stretch of Interstate 90 (I—90), one of the country’s longest highways. This section of the highway cuts across the Cascade mountain range. It has affected the migration (迁徙) patterns of animals in the area.
Construction of the 20 crossings is expected to be completed by 2029. So far, six underpasses and one overpass have been built. Garvey - Darda says these crossings have already made a difference for migrating animals. “We now have close to 5,000 deer and elk going through the underpasses,” she says. “All of these animals were potential accidents.”
Washington locals can volunteer to plant vegetation on the I - 90 overpass. Garvey-Darda says the plants will encourage animals, including her beloved pika, to use the crossings. “It’s important to be active,” she says, “and not wait until a species is endangered.”
8. What is a threat to wild animals according to the text?
A. Failing to find enough food.
B. Being hit when crossing roads.
C. Having their habitats destroyed.
D. Getting lost during their migration.
9. What do we know about Banff’s crossing system?
A. It is advanced.
B. It is simple.
C. It works well.
D. It needs improvement.
10. What can we infer from Garvey-Darda’s words in the last two paragraphs?
A. Humans are too passive in protecting animals.
B. More and more animals are using the crossings.
C. More and more animals are becoming endangered.
D. Humans are responsible for killing so many animals.
11. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

Children who read digital books, or “e-books”, are less likely to understand what they read than those who read paper books, reports a new study.
Researchers from the University of Stavanger in Norway looked at the results of 39 former studies covering 1,812 young children aged 1 to 8. They discovered that when the only difference was whether or not the book was digital, children who read paper books had a better understanding of the story.
Many e-books include extra multimedia features that the researchers called “enhancements”. It was found that some enhancements can actually distract (使分心) children from the main story. Other studies have also found that adding games at the end of chapters can have a particularly negative effect.
If a dictionary was the only enhancement included, however, children understood the story as well as with a paper book, and also improved their vocabulary. It was found that some e-book enhancements helped children understand what they read better than paper books, but only if they were specifically designed to help children pay attention to the story. However, such enhancements are still not as effective as having an adult support a child while reading a paper book, the findings suggest.
Natalia Kucirkova, co-author of the research, said that children from low-income families were more likely to rely on e-books, which are usually cheaper. But the research showed that those same children were also more likely to find e-book enhancements distracting.
“Our overall findings may reflect the rather low quality of enhancements in the digital books available to young children,” Kucirkova said. “If we want to support all children, we need to understand the impact of digital books and make them of higher quality,” she added.
12. How did researchers make the discovery?
A. By referring to earlier studies.
B. By testing children’s reading levels.
C. By surveying children of various ages.
D. By comparing different types of books.
13. What does the study find about children who read digital books?
A. They end up playing games.
B. They fail to understand them.
C. They may easily become bored.
D. They find it hard to stay focused.
14. What is the researchers’ attitude towards e-book enhancements?
A. Negative.
B. Supportive.
C. Unclear.
D. Objective.
15. What is Natalia Kucirkova’s advice?
A. Reducing the use of e-books.
B. Keeping children away from e-books.
C. Improving the quality of e-books.
D. Removing enhancements from e-books.
【答案】12. A 13. D 14. D 15. C

In a small village located at the foot of a towering mountain lived a young woman named Maya. She had always been attracted by the mountain’s beauty and often dreamed of reaching its top. Every day, she would look up at the peak, imagining what it would be like to stand at the top and see the world from that height.
One day, Maya decided that it was time to make her dream a reality. She packed a small bag with necessities and set off on her journey. As she climbed, the path became steeper and more challenging. Rocks fell under her feet, and the cold wind bit at her cheeks. As she climbed higher, the air grew thinner, and every step became a struggle. Maya’s muscles ached, and soon she was out of breath.
Halfway up the mountain, Maya met a group of climbers who were going down. “Turn back,” they warned. “The climb is too difficult, and the weather is worsening. It’s not worth the risk.” For a moment, doubt crept into Maya’s mind. She felt tired, cold, and unsure if she could continue. But then, Maya remembered why she had started the climb in the first place. She wanted to prove to herself that she was able to achieve her dreams, no matter how difficult the journey.
She refused to give up, determined to reach the top. She knew that each step forward, no matter how small, brought her closer to her goal.

Maya thanked the climbers for their concern and continued climbing. The biting wind and steep slope tested her determination, but she just focused on her footsteps, each one showing her strength and willpower. With every inch forward, she felt more confident, which fueled her journey. Finally, after hours of hard work, Maya reached the summit. Standing at the peak, she looked out over the vast landscape below, which was like an oil painting-tiny villages dotted the landscape with their rooftops shining in the sunlight; the winding river snaked through the valley floor; the sky above stretched endlessly, turning orange and pink as the sun began to set. Tears of joy filled her eyes. The scenery was more breathtaking than she had ever imagined. And from that day forward, Maya faced each new challenge bravely, knowing that she had the strength to climb any mountain, both in the world and within herself.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为 100 左右;
