B At 12, my father decided to take me on a trip to France. I had never been out of the country before, so I was very excited. My aunt, my father and I went around with my father showing us all the unbelievable sites in Paris. None of us spoke much French but we loved the city. We had taken the subway all over the city and were congratulating ourselves on our mastering what is honestly an excellent subway design that is pretty easy to follow. We decided to visit Versailles by train. We chatted happily along the way until my father realized we were far into the French countryside and no one around spoke English. We reached the end of the line and felt afraid when everyone finally left the train. An old man and his grandchild noticed us and came to help. He spoke no English, so in broken French we tried to explain. When he finally understood, this great man settled his grandson and showed us to the correct train and then boarded with us. Later we knew the truth that there was a train transfer (转乘) and he didn’t want us to miss it. This kind man rode a train for an hour and a half out of his way to make sure that three Americans got where they wanted to be. He refused to let us pay for his ticket. He did it all with a gentle smile and patted our hands gently at the stop. Then in his quiet way, he boarded the train to return the way he had come. What impressed me most was the man and his kindness during the amazing trip. Some Americans think the French are rude for some reason, but I always try to persuade them to change their minds with this very story. 29. What happened to the author and his family on the train? A. They couldn’t understand the signs of the train. B. They failed to get off the train at the right time. C. They had different opinions about where to go first. D. They found it hard to communicate with the French. 30. How did the man help the author and his family? A. He paid for their train tickets. B. He showed them the returning way. C. He invited them to travel together. D. He led them to their place. 31. Which of the following can best describe the last paragraph? A. Seeing is believing. B. Being kind is a good manner. C. Travelling enriches one’s life. D. Helping others brings great pleasure. 32. What’s the purpose of the author’s writing the text? A. To explain an unexpected problem. B. To list the unbelievable sites in Paris. C. To share an unforgettable foreign experience. D. To show the importance of mastering a foreign language. C If you’re planning to go on a diet or if you suffer from serious conditions like diabetes (糖尿病), knowing exactly what and how much you’re eating is important. In this day and age, we have calorie and nutrition calculators even on our smartphones, but they act only as guides, whereas a famous company’s revolutionary new device, CaloRieco, actually analyzes the food on your plate and provides accurate (correct and true in every detail) information in just a few seconds. You’ve probably used caloric calculators before, and you know that they only offer general information. For example, a calculator will tell you the average number of calories in a hamburger, but it can’t tell you exactly how many calories are in the hamburger. The same goes for nutrients like protein or fat. And this is what makes the new CaloRieco so special. The spokesman for the company said that its outstanding invention is aimed at dieters and diabetes sufferers, both of whom make up a sizable market. Displayed at a recent tech show, CaloRieco is a high-tech device that uses light reflection technology to determine the nutritional values of almost any food and also provide accurate calorie estimates. All you have to do is put your plate in the box-shaped device and wait between 10 and 20 seconds for it to analyze all the food. Once it’s done analyzing the various ingredients (烹饪材料) in your meal, CaloRieco shows the number of calories, as well as the nutritional content on an LED display. According to the company the device is able to recognize the vast majority of foods, except soups and very dark dishes. CaloRieco can also connect to your smartphone via an app, and send all the data about analyzed foods to your handheld device, so you can access it whenever you need. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a bit longer to get your hands on your very own CaloRieco, as the device presented at the show is just a prototype (样机) which needs to be improved. It’s expected to be a hit in the next few years, but the price remains a mystery. 33. What is the advantage of CaloRieco? A. It uses light reflection technology. B. It offers general information of food. C. It is a high-tech device working as a guide. D. It can present the exact calorie of analyzed food. 34. According to the text, what is right about CaloRieco? A. It needs a long time to analyze the food. B. It can show the food data on the smartphone directly. C. It can count the calories of all foods on your plate. D. It may be popular among dieters and diabetes sufferers. 35. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 5 refer to? A. The smartphone. B. The app. C. The data. D. The food. 36. What can we infer about CaloRieco from the last paragraph? A. It’s hopeful. B. It’s perfect. C. It’s costly. D. It’s available. D Worry is defined as thoughts and images of a negative nature in which mental attempts are made to avoid the expected potential threats. If we were to keep a record of all the things we worried about during a given period of time, we would discover, in reviewing them, that the great majority of our expected problems or troubles never come to pass. This means that most of the time we devote to worrying, which pushes us to try to come up with a solution to what is troubling us, is wasted, Thus, we not only caused ourselves unnecessary mental pain, but took up valuable minutes and hours that could’ve been spent elsewhere. To avoid this, it is often necessary to stay calm and trace the sources of worry. More importantly, we should analyze the situation and see whether it is the very problem that is bothering us. Blindly feeling nervous about whether the problem can be solved is sometimes ridiculous, for the problems do not exist. Once, shortly before a major concert, a member of Arturo Toscanini’s orchestra approached the great Italian conductor with an expression of fear on his face. “Maestro (大师), ”the musician said, “my instrument is not working properly. I cannot reach the note of E-flat. Whatever will I do? We are to begin in a few moments.” Toscanini looked at the man with amazement. Then he smiled kindly and placed an arm around his shoulders. “My friend, ” he replied, “Do not worry about it. The note E-flat does not appear anywhere in the music that you will be playing this evening. ” The next time we find ourselves in the middle of worrying about some matters, we might be wise to stop and ask ourselves what the problem is and whether it will happen. Then we may be able to go on to do something more meaningful or at least avoid being disturbed by something imaginary. 37. What do we know about worry from the first two paragraphs? A. It requires people to record and review the trouble later. B. It drives people to try and stay safe from anticipated trouble. C. It’s referred to as negative ideas about things that will never happen. D. It causes a waste of time that should be spent on solving the problem. 38. The example of the orchestra mentioned in Paragraph 3 is to argue that ________. A. the note E-flat does not appear in the music B. wrongly analyzing the problem is ridiculous C. it’s not wise to be disturbed by something imaginary D. a man of wisdom is able to deal with1 worry effectively 39. What can be inferred from the text? A. Arturo Toscanini was a great Italian musician from Italy. B. Worry is defined as thoughts and images of a negative nature. C. Time wasted on worry should be spent on something meaningful. D. People feel annoyed by worry because of psychological problems. 40. What is the text mainly about? A. The source of worry. B. How to deal with worry. C. The definition of worry. D. How worry affects people. I’m a hiker — “born to hike”. 29. B 30. D 31. A 32. We chatted happily along the way until my father realized we were far into the French countryside and no one around spoke English. 一路上我们愉快地聊天,直到我父亲意识到我们远在法国农村,周围没有人会说英语)”和第三段中的“We reached the end of the line and felt afraid when everyone finally left the train. 由第四段中的“This kind man rode a train for an hour and a half out of his way to make sure that three Americans got where they wanted to be. D 34. D 35. C 36. 根据第一段“In this day and age, we have calorie and nutrition calculators even on our smartphones, but they act only as guides, whereas a famous company’s revolutionary new device, CaloRieco, actually analyzes the food on your plate and provides accurate (correct and true in every detail) information in just a few seconds.(在这个时代,我们甚至在智能手机上都有卡路里和营养计算器,但它们只是作为指南,而著名公司的革命性新设备CaloRieco实际上分析了你盘子里的食物,并在几秒钟内提供准确的信息)”可知,CaloRieco的优势是能够提供、分析食物的准确数据。 根据第三段“The spokesman for the company said that its outstanding invention is aimed at dieters and diabetes sufferers, both of whom make up a sizable market. Displayed at a recent tech show, CaloRieco is a high-tech device that uses light reflection technology to determine the nutritional values of almost any food and also provide accurate calorie estimates.(该公司发言人表示,该公司的杰出发明面向减肥者和糖尿病患者,这两个群体都占据了相当大的市场。CaloRieco是一种高科技设备,它使用光反射技术来确定几乎所有食物的营养价值,并提供准确的卡路里估算)”可知,CaloRicco的目标顾客是减肥者和糖尿病患者,因为它可以为这些人提供食物的准确分析数据。由此可知,这款产品在减肥者和糖尿病患者中可能很受欢迎。故选D。 【35题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线单词所在的前半句话“CaloRieco can also connect to your smartphone via an app, and send all the data about analyzed foods to your handheld device(CaloRieco还可以通过应用程序连接到你的智能手机,并将有关分析食品的所有数据发送到您的手持设备)”可知,CaloRieco还可以通过应用程序连接到您的智能手机,并把分析出来的数据发送到你的设备中,这样无论你什么时候需要,都能查看数据。 根据最后一段“Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a bit longer to get your hands on your very own CaloRieco, as the device presented at the show is just a prototype (样机) which needs to be improved. It’s expected to be a hit in the next few years, but the price remains a mystery.(不幸的是,你需要再等一段时间才能拿到自己的CaloRieco,因为展会上展示的设备只是一个需要改进的原型。预计它将在未来几年内大受欢迎,但价格仍然是个谜)”可知,这个产品还需要进一步的改善,但是在未来它会很受欢迎。由此推知,这个产品还是很有前景的。故选A。 D Worry is defined as thoughts and images of a negative nature in which mental attempts are made to avoid the expected potential threats. ” The next time we find ourselves in the middle of worrying about some matters we might be wise to stop and ask ourselves what the problem is and whether it will happen. D 38. C 39. C 40. 根据第一段“Worry is defined as thoughts and images of a negative nature in which mental attempts are made to avoid the expected potential threats.(忧虑被定义为消极的想法和形象,在这种想法和形象中,人们在心理上试图避免预期的潜在威胁。)”和第二段“If we were to keep a record of all the things we worried about during a given period of time, we would discover, in reviewing them, that the great majority of our expected problems or troubles never come to pass. This means that most of the time we devote to worrying, which pushes us to try to come up with a solution to what is troubling us, is wasted, Thus, we not only caused ourselves unnecessary mental pain, but took up valuable minutes and hours that could’ve been spent elsewhere.(如果我们把一段时间内我们所担心的所有事情都记录下来,在回顾它们的时候,我们会发现,我们所预期的问题或麻烦绝大多数都不会发生。这意味着我们花在担忧上的大部分时间都被浪费了,这些时间促使我们努力想出解决困扰我们的问题的方法。因此,我们不仅给自己造成了不必要的精神痛苦,还占用了本可以花在其他地方的宝贵的分钟和小时。)”可知,前两段可以得知,担忧浪费了本应花在解决问题上的时间。故选D。 【38题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“To avoid this, it is often necessary to stay calm and trace the sources of worry. More importantly, we should analyze the situation and see whether it is the very problem that is bothering us. Blindly feeling nervous about whether the problem can be solved is sometimes nidicolous, for the problems do not exist. Then he smiled kindly and placed an arm around his shoulders. ‘My friend, ’ he replied, ‘Do not worry about it. The note E-flat does not appear anywhere in the music that you will be playing this evening. 根据最后一段“The next time we find ourselves in the middle of worrying about some matters, we might be wise to stop and ask ourselves what the problem is and whether it will happen. Then we may be able to go on to do something more meaningful or at least avoid being disturbed by something imaginary. (下次当我们发现自己在为某些事情担心时,明智的做法是停下来问问自己问题是什么,它是否会发生。然后我们就可以继续做一些更有意义的事情,或者至少避免被一些想象的事情打扰。)”可知,浪费在忧虑上的时间应该花在有意义的事情上。故选C。 【40题详解】 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“The next time we find ourselves in the middle of worrying about some matters, we might be wise to stop and ask ourselves what the problem is and whether it will happen. Then we may be able to go on to do something more meaningful or at least avoid being disturbed by something imaginary. (下次当我们发现自己在为某些事情担心时,明智的做法是停下来问问自己问题是什么,它是否会发生。然后我们就可以继续做一些更有意义的事情,或者至少避免被一些想象的事情打扰。)”可知,本文主要讲述了如何处理忧虑。故选B。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 I’m a hiker — “born to hike”.
