(24-25高一上·山东·期中)Using an app (应用程序) to learn a language is handy because you can follow lessons and check your progress anywhere. Below is a list of my favorite ways to learn languages from my phone.
Google Translate
Most of apps teach you a language through exercises and progressive steps, while Google’s simply tells you how to write and speak anything you run through it. Still, I think it’s a great choice for beginners. I like to learn languages with Google Translate for two main reasons: its long list of supported languages, and the several language learning methods.
Rosetta Stone
Rosetta Stone is designed specifically for helping travelers learn basic words and phrases (短语). There’s also a phrasebook with basic words and words related to restaurants, hotels, and getting around— all very useful for someone traveling. If you want, you can buy extra phrasebooks covering topics like shopping, colors, emergencies, and so on.
Busuu
Busuu’s app is user-friendly. You get to pick where you’d like to begin in the course. The words and phrases you’ll learn are especially helpful for beginners who might find themselves around people speaking a foreign language and need to learn words in real situations quickly. However, Busuu doesn’t support as many languages as some of these other apps.
Memrise
Memrise isn’t as easy to use for quick translations as Google Translate, but it is easy to work with, supports offline courses, and lets you learn a number of languages. You can start off simple or move to more advanced lessons directly. I find Memrise to be unique in how it teaches new words and phrases. They put words into sentences alongside words that sound similar in your language, which makes it easier to remember.
21.Which apps are suitable for beginners according to the writer?
A.Busuu and Memrise. B.Google Translate and Busuu.
C.Rosetta Stone and Memrise. D.Google Translate and and Rosetta Stone.
22.What is special about Memrise?
A.It is designed for travelers.
B.It has an advantage of quick translation.
C.It supports a large number of languages.
D.It has an unusual method of teaching vocabulary.
23.In which part of a magazine may this text appear?
A.Travelling. B.History. C.Technology. D.Business.

(24-25高一上·浙江·期中)I would only leave home for 24 hours — a mini-vacation that seemed impossibly exciting after many months spent close to home helping care for our 2-year-old daughter.
It had been a year since I'd seen Angus, my best friend since childhood. But as kids, then teenagers and into our 20s, we were inseparable, more like brothers than friends. Although both of us were busy with our families and living in different cities — he never felt out of reach.
Angus was waiting in the parking lot of the run-down Ottawa bus station when I stepped off the bus into the hot sun. He drove and we shot the breeze. I felt the mix of comfort and anxiety as you wonder if you still have anything in common. But within minutes we had settled into an easy back and forth.
The next day, Angus and I stood in his garage and got our things organized and put them into boxes. Then, Angus and I rowed at a steady pace on the river. A few hundred yards out, Angus said, " That's where we're going — the Deschênes Rapids (激流)." Before long we heard a loud sound. It was the sound of the rapids. I trembled with fear, but we pressed on. A few minutes later, we crossed a line of small red sign that neither of us recognized as our last warning. "Go for the island!" I shouted. " Too late, " said Angus.
A bigger wave sped toward us. I came up, shook the water from my eyes and saw the dam — a 20-foot-high wall. Then, I heard Angus's voice, calm and confident, right behind me. “ Hold on to the canoe (独木舟),” he said. By luck, a few minutes later a small craft with firemen came into view and picked us up. One older fireman said it was a miracle we were alive. Angus and I learned later that the area we had gone through was a dead zone. Between 2007 and 2017, at least six people died or went missing around the dam. All I wanted to do was get home. I started crying, thinking about how close I'd come to never seeing my family again.
24.It can be inferred from paragraph 2 that __________.
A.They were inseparable after their 20s B.Their relationship wasn't affected by distance
C.They're not familiar with each other D.They've seen each other a lot lately
25.What happened to the author and Angus during the trip?
A.They chose a smooth route. B.They didn't notice the warning.
C.They were scared by the rapids. D.They reached the island at last.
26.How did the writer feel after they were saved by firemen?
A.Confused and uncertain. B.Angry and disappointed.
C.Embarrassed and ashamed. D.Relieved and grateful.
27.Which sentence can best describe this trip?
A.The trip was filled with joy. B.The trip was a relaxing experience.
C.The trip was a narrow escape. D.The trip was a disappointment.

(24-25高一上·福建厦门·期中)As a shift in the polar vortex (极地涡旋) swept across much of the US, many people in the country were hit with a sudden snap of cold. Heavy ice and snow coupled with fallen trees caused the outages in major cities, with companies unable to tell their customers when power will be back on.
Polar vortices were noticed long ago. But the first known use of the term “polar vortex” was in a magazine in 1853. Polar vorices are present year-round, but we don’t hear about them until they cause problems. They maintain freezing temperatures at the North and South poles by moving in tight counter-clockwise (逆时针方向) patterns. Polar vortices grow stronger in winter and weaken in summer. They are kept in place at the poles by another atmospheric current (大气流) called the jet stream (急流). However, when the jet streams weaken, the cold winds of the polar vortex are pushed southwards and it is during this time that people begin to pay attention!
In Texas, roads froze over, causing six traffic deaths, and many schools were shut down. People are not the only Earthlings to struggle with the cold. Crops and animals are also freezing. This could have major consequences, especially if herds of cattle die. If snow blocks cattle, the animals can’t reach basic necessities like food and fresh water.
On a brighter note, some Texas cities were more prepared than others. For instance, Amarillo, which is located in North Texas, so they are more accustomed to colder temperatures. Amarillo is outstanding because the city was redesigned to stand up to strong winter storms. Officials have spread out fire stations to increase coverage of first responders, employed modified dump trucks for clearing ice, and upgraded civic centers to provide protection during storms. Hopefully, other Texas cities will follow the good example set by Amarillo!
28.What does the underlined word “outages” refer to?
A.Traffic jams. B.Snow removal. C.Power cuts. D.Traffic accidents.
29.What can we learn about polar vortices?
A.They grow stronger in summer. B.They are affected by jet streams.
C.They were first observed in 1853. D.They move in a clockwise direction.
30.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The definition of the polar vortex. B.The characteristics of the polar vortex.
C.The ways to deal with the polar vortex. D.The serious impact made by the polar vortex.
31.Why is Amarillo impressive?
A.Because it is located in the north of Texas.
B.Because it sets an example for other cities.
C.Because it has been upgraded and modernized on a regular basis.
D.Because it has taken effective measures to resist winter storms.

(24-25高一上·浙江杭州·期中)Exercise doesn’t just help you lose fat. It could also promote healthier fat, according to a new study. “Living a physically active lifestyle makes our fat tissue (组织) a more accommodating place for extra energy under conditions when we do gain weight,” said senior study author Dr. Jeffrey Horowitz, professor of movement studies at the University of Michigan.
To see how exercise impacts fat tissue, researchers compared fat tissue just under the skin from two groups of 16 people with obesity: those who reported exercising at least four times a week for at least 2 years, and those who did not exercise regularly. Those who had a history of regular exercise had fat cells which showed characteristics that increase how much fat they can store. It is important that the fat tissue under the skin has a greater capacity (容量) so that if a person does gain weight, the increasing fat can go there instead of more dangerous places, such as the heart or liver, Dr. Jeffrey added. “Unfortunately, most of us, even regular exercisers, gain weight as we get older. If we have a greater capacity to store that in our fat tissue, less of it will go to our liver, our heart, or other places that in excess (过量) can be really problematic.”
This study shows that researchers need to learn more about fat tissue and how it is connected to health and lifestyle changes, said Dr. Andrew Freeman, director of cardiovascular prevention and wellness at National Jewish Health in Denver. “Just being overweight may not be the whole story,” he said. “The tissue used to be understood as only functioning to store energy, but researchers are just starting to learn it has many functions,” Freeman said. “It makes sense to have some degree of fat so you have some reserve, but not to the point that the typical American has,” he added
The key finding of the study is that healthier fat storage is just another good reason to live a physically active life. If you want to start, Freeman suggests trying out exercise first thing in the morning.
32.Why did the researchers conduct the study according to the passage?
A.To observe how fat issue impacts physical health.
B.To examine the influence of exercise on fat tissue.
C.To understand whether exercise can help us lose weight.
D.To analyse the relationship between fat issue and exercise.
33.What can we learn about the study?
A.Regular exercise can help people store less fat and become fit.
B.Regular exercisers are more likely to gain weight as they get old.
C.Regular exercise causes increasing fat to go to places like heart or liver.
D.Regular exercisers have a greater capacity to store fat in their fat issues.
34.What may Dr. Andrew Freeman agree with according to the passage?
A.A certain amount of fat is harmful to health.
B.Further study is needed on the role of fat tissue.
C.Weight control is the key to living a healthy lifestyle.
D.Fat tissue has long been believed to perform more functions.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A.Weight loss: promote a healthy life. B.Fat tissue: consume extra energy.
C.Exercise: help you store fat better. D.Health risks: lead to overweight

I applied for a job with a Chinese-Canadian company in Vancouver. As you know, the Chinese are famous for their food. They cook delicious food and obtain a simple pleasure from eating.
So, I was not surprised when my new boss invited me out to lunch to celebrate my new job. He said we were going to eat in a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. I was nervous. I knew we would be using chopsticks, and while I had tried many times to master the technique, I had completely failed in every attempt. How would I be able to make a good impression? Would I make a complete fool of myself?
That evening, I called a friend and asked her to explain exactly how to use chopsticks. She patiently explained the proper way of holding them between the thumb, first and middle fingers.“ It is not that hard,” she said. “That is easy for you to say,” I replied. “You’ve been eating with chopsticks all your life. It is natural for you!” I didn’t get much sleep that evening. I kept turning around in bed all night, worrying about lunch the next day.
The next day, I could hardly contain my anxiety. It was difficult to get any work done in the morning. At noon, I left with my boss and two co-workers and headed to the restaurant. We were seated at an excellent table. My boss wrote out the food order, speaking to the server in Chinese. My heart was pounding, but then I noticed a strange thing. Instead of the customary chopsticks, each of us had knives, forks, and spoons.
I was confused at first, but then, it hit me. My boss knew that I would have trouble with the chopsticks. He wanted to save me from embarrassment, so he had called ahead and arranged for us to be served with knives and forks. I couldn’t believe how kind and helpful he was.
注意:(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;(2) 请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。

M: What do you mean?
W: Well, on the evening of last Wednesday, Otto kept breaking into our daughter Lisa’s room and barking at her. I was very angry because I feared Lisa couldn’t sleep well.
M: So what did you do?
W: I tried to comfort Otto and gestured for him to leave the room. But he just kept barking at Lisa, which raised my awareness. Then I checked Lisa and noticed she had a fever. Finally I took her to the hospital quickly.
M: What a clever dog!
W: Yeah. Now I believe that when a dog is acting unusually, we should pay much attention.
M: That’s right. Otto is a real hero to your family.
W: You can say that again. My family is lucky to have Otto to accompany us.

【答案】18.C 19.A 20.C
【原文】
M: According to the survey of 1, 896 seniors in the United Kingdom, more than one in five would have a conversation with no more than three people over the span of an entire week! That translated to nearly 2.6 million elderly folks who didn’t enjoy regular human contact on a daily basis. Perhaps the most alarming is that researchers said an alarming 225,000 individuals would go a week without talking to anyone face-to-face. The survey also revealed that over half of seniors were willing to take early retirement. They said they knew they could be taken good care of if they took their children’s advice, moving into the nursing homes. But they were unable to accept this idea. They were so scared of leaving their only homes they had lived for most of their lives. Meanwhile, another survey of 2, 000 people aged 16-45 in the UK showed that 55% of younger folks admitted to worrying about being lonely in their elder years. With that in mind, two-thirds of those people said they wanted to do something to help boost the confidence of a lonely senior, but 37% worried that such a gesture wouldn’t be well-received. Another 30% felt too shy to spark up a conversation with seniors. 27% admitted they were not sure how to help, and a quarter said they were simply too busy themselves.

【答案】28.C 29.B 30.D 31.D
【导语】这是一篇说明文。极地涡旋会给人类的生命财产带来巨大的威胁,但是好在人类已采取有效措施抵御冬季风暴。
28.词句猜测题。根据第一段最后一句中的“with companies unable to tell their customers when power will be back on.(公司无法告知客户电力何时恢复)”可知,严重的冰雪加上倒下的树木导致了主要城市的停电,outages意为“断电”和C项意思相近。故选C。
29.细节理解题。根据第二段“They are kept in place at the poles by another atmospheric current (大气流) called the jet stream (急流). However, when the jet streams weaken, the cold winds of the polar vortex are pushed southwards and it is during this time that people begin to pay attention!(它们被另一种被称为急流的大气流固定在两极。然而,当急流减弱时,极地涡旋的冷风被推向南方,正是在这段时间,人们开始注意!)”可知,极地涡旋受到急流的影响。故选B。
30.主旨大意题。根据倒数第二段“In Texas, roads froze over, causing six traffic deaths, and many schools were shut down. People are not the only Earthlings to struggle with the cold. Crops and animals are also freezing. This could have major consequences, especially if herds of cattle die. If snow blocks cattle, the animals can’t reach basic necessities like food and fresh water.(在德克萨斯州,道路结冰,造成6人死亡,许多学校关闭。人类并不是地球上唯一与寒冷作斗争的生物。农作物和动物也在受冻。这可能会产生重大后果,特别是如果成群的牛死亡。如果大雪阻挡了牛群,这些动物就无法获得食物和淡水等基本必需品。)”可知,倒数第二段主要讲的是极地涡旋造成的严重影响。故选D。
31.细节理解题。根据最后一段第三句“Amarillo is outstanding because the city was redesigned to stand up to strong winter storms.(阿马里洛之所以引人注目,是因为这座城市经过了重新设计,以抵御严重的冬季风暴。)”可知,阿马里洛引人注目是因为它已采取有效措施抵御冬季风暴。故选D。

第二节 (满分25分)
(2024·江西景德镇·一模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Instantly, I made up my mind and asked the server to bring me a pair of chopsticks.

In the end, I wasn’t embarrassed at all.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
Instantly, I made up my mind and asked the server to bring me a pair of chopsticks. As soon as they were brought in front me, I took them carefully in my hand. I looked over at my boss and we exchanged a smile. With determination, I grasped the chopsticks and attempted to pick up some rice and a piece of meat. However, my fingers slipped and the food fell back onto the plate. I was swamped with a sense of embarrassment due to my failed attempts. At that moment, I saw my boss giving me a reassuring nod, which motivated me to keep trying. I plucked up the courage and tried again, determined to master this skill. Through trial and error, I gradually got the hang of using chopsticks.
Paragraph 2:
In the end, I wasn’t embarrassed at all. I was glad that my new boss was so thoughtful that he could take everything into consideration. And I was really happy that I had decided to ask for chopsticks. After that, we often went out for lunch in that restaurant. Despite facing a number of challenges, I persevered in my attempts to use chopsticks. With the help of my friend and the patience of my boss, I was able to overcome my fear of using chopsticks and practice until I became proficient. It struck me that diversity is not about how we differ, but about embracing one another’s uniqueness.
