1.twice adv. 两次;两倍

strange 为形容词,修饰不定代词nothing, 在英语中,
修饰不定代词的形容词常置于不定代词之后。

across作介词,意为“穿过”

辨析:across 和through

through 介词,表示“穿过,通过”,指从物体的内部穿过,表示过洞、隧道、森林等。go through the tunnel
3.think about 考虑
think about 后面可接名词、代词、v. -ing形式或从句。
Then Alice went down after it, but never thought about how she was going to get out again. 然后爱丽丝跟着它下去了,但从没想过她将如何再出来。

句型
1.And what is a book for... 这本书有什么用......
“What... for ?”意为“......有什么用?为何......?”,是不理解对方的动机或询问对方的目的时的用语。
What... for? 侧重提问目的,常用动词不定式或for短语回答。
-- What are you going to Hangzhou for? 你去杭州做什么?
-- To visit my uncle and aunt. 去看望我的叔叔和婶婶。
Why...? 侧重提问原因,常用because引导的句子回答。
-- Why were you late? 你为什么迟到了?
--Because I got up late. 因为我起晚了。
2.It was too dark for her to see anything. 太黑了,她什么也看不见。
too... to... 太......而不能......
too 为副词,后跟形容词或副词原级,to引出动词不定式。 当表示“对某人来说太......而不能......”时用“too...+ for sb. + to...”

3.While she was falling, she was thinking about her cat, Dinah. 当她往下坠落时,她在想她的猫,黛娜。
while conj. 当......的时候,while引导的时间状语从句中的动词应用延续性动词。

After Alice found a small gold key on a table, she found a tiny door behind a low curtain, and the key fitted perfectly! She opened the door with the key and saw a beautiful garden. Then she drank from the bottle and became very small, just the right size to go through the little door into the lovely garden.
