You don’t have to spend a lot of money on it. Sometimes stamps can be got from many sources for free. Getting Started If you have no stamps at all, you might want to buy a packet of 500 or 1,000 different worldwide stamps from a hobby shop or stamp dealer to get stared. One good choice is eBay. Try entering phrases like “worldwide stamps” in the searching box. However, even if you want to specialize in collecting stamps, my advice is not to spend much money on stamps in the beginning. Start off collecting stamps from many source for free until you have collected enough stamps and had enough experience. Sorting Stamps Assume (假设) you have some stamps and they are in paper. Before you take them from the paper, you should sort the stamps for example, by country. This is because dealing with stamps is much easier when they are on paper. When you take them off the paper, they become easy to bend, crease and tear easily. Trimming (修剪) Stamps Never try to take a stamp off its paper backing by pulling at it, even if it appears to be loose enough to do so. First, trim the paper around the stamp with a pair of sharp scissors making sure not to cut off the edge of the stamps. I suggest that you’d better leave a quarter inch safety area from the edge of the stamp when you trim the paper before you are good at doing it. 36. This passage is written for people who ________ . A. have no money to collect stamps B. want to sell their stamps C. want to collect stamps D. don’t know how to sort stamps 37. The writer didn’t mention collecting stamps from a ________ . A. hobby shop B. shopping website C. post office D. stamp dealer 38. According to the writer, at the very beginning, stamp-collecting beginners shouldn’t ________ . What does the writer suggest NOT doing when trimming stamps? A. Pulling at them to take them off the paper backing when they look loose. B. Trimming the paper around the stamps with a pair of sharp scissors. C. Leaving a quarter inch safety area from the edge of the stamp. D. Making sure not to cut off the edge of the stamps. 40. In the author’s opinion, collecting stamps ________ . A. can make a lot of money B. is not a difficult hobby C doesn’t require any money at all D. requires a lot of time 【答案】36. C 37. C 38. D 39. A 40. B 【解析】 【分析】这是一篇说明文。文章主要从如何开始集邮,如何把邮票分类和如何修剪邮票三方面介绍了集邮。 【36题详解】 推理判断题。分析文章结构可知,第一段“Stamp collecting is easy when you do it as a hobby. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on it. Sometimes stamps can be got from many sources for free.”(当你把邮票研究当成一种爱好的时候,它就变得简单了。 根据Getting Started部分中的“If you have no stamps at all, you might want to buy a packet of 500 or 1,000 different worldwide stamps from a hobby shop or stamp dealer to get stared. At the age of four, I started speech lessons because even I could not speak well enough to be understood. First grade was a struggle. I not only had difficulty speaking, but I was expected to learn to read and I just couldn’t do it. My parents grew more and more frustrated. They bought books and offered great rewards if I could read one of them from start to finish to them. Well, with my speech problems and now my reading problems, I did not like to do reading and so refused to do it whenever possible. Second grade was not much better. It was in the second grade that the teacher decided that I needed special education. I remember the days of taking the physical exams. However, after all that, they decided that I did not qualify for special education. It was in third grade that a new school was built close to where I lived. I remember going there with my parents and helping to get the school ready so that we could transfer (转学). It was a happy day that we started school at Vandalia. However, things did not get better as my parent expected. It was now time for fifth grade. Mrs. Wake field was my teacher, and if ever there was a teacher that deserved a gold star, it was her. She did not make me feel upset. Instead, she helped me in so many ways and built my self-confidence so that I actually did believe that I could do something special. And that is just what I did. For the past 22 years, I have been a fifth grade teacher. Because of Mrs. Wake field’s influence in my life, I am now encouraging students who have had difficulties in their lives to believe that they can overcome and become someone. I have won a large number of awards but I know that all of them belong to one fifth grade teacher who believed in me and challenged me to be all that I could be. I still have a class picture of her with her fifth grade class hanging on the wall of my office, encouraging other teachers to reach out to their students. 41. A collect common stamps B. borrow some stamps from their friends C. act as an inexperienced collector D. spend a lot of money in buying stamps 39. A. can make a lot of money B. is not a difficult hobby C. doesn’t require any money at all D. requires a lot of time B Before I even started school, people felt that I was not going to amount to much. Mrs. Wake field was my teacher and if ever there was a teacher that deserved a gold star, it was her. 41. What can we infer from the passage? A. The writer’s parents believed he could get improved in his speech ability. B. The new school was not far away from where they lived. C. The teachers in the new school were gold stars D. The writer himself wanted to transfer to a new school. 44. In which grade did the turning point in writer’s life appear? A. In Grade Two. B. Some training institutions have taken advantage of parents' anxieties(焦虑) to make money. ” said Chen Xianzhe, a professor at South China Normal University. “The guideline is meant to calm the anxieties of parents and society as a whole. ” “But this does not mean the tutoring courses will completely disappear, since exams still exist. ” said Chu Zhaohui, a senior researcher at the National Institute of Education Sciences. One-on-one or one-on-two tutoring might see a rise due to this need. “Therefore, schools should improve their education quality, take the main responsibility for students' education and not push them into tutoring courses.” Chu added. 46 The aim of the new guideline is to ______. However, she wouldn’t put her feet up. Every week, she leads a 90-minute fitness class in her community for her ladies, and the youngest of them is 60. The class is a mixture of Scottish dancing, line-dancing and routine. “I want to make it fun for them,” says Marga , “I’ve been teaching classes since 1965.” At that time, 8 ladies attended her class, but now there are as many as 18. And when Marga isn’t out, she is a writer of poetry. She has written 6 books and is now going on a seventh. “I write in the evenings, about anything and everything,” say Marga. In writing about her life, Marga isn’t short of materials. Born in the 1920s, Marga was a gifted pianist from a young age and even won a scholarship to the Royal College at the age of 14. Marga stopped work as a railway worker when she had the first child. Then she was a volunteer of the Red Cross for more than 40 years. She now has four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; the youngest of them is just six-month old. In spite of her astonishing activity level for her age, Marga says that loneliness is the concern of society and that all the things she does still don’t fill up her time.
