She is one of the world’s most celebrated swimmers. Jessica was the youngest athlete to win a Paralympics (残奥会)medal. But her path to becoming a champion has been anything but easy. Jessica was born in Irkutsk, Russia with a severe and rare disease — fibular hemimelia This means that part of her leg bones was missing or abnormal. Because of that, her young mother placed her in a Russian orphanage (孤儿院), fearing she could not care for Jessica Fortunately, she was adopted by an American family when she was 13 months old. She required 25 different surgeries to help her leg condition. But unfortunately, both of her legs had to be removed when she was just 18 months old. Jessica learned to walk with artificial legs. As a child, she took to sports including gymnastics, cheerleading, ice skating, biking and rock climbing. She began swimming at her grandparents’ house when she was 6. She started competitive swimming about 4 years later. She did really well in swimming. Shortly after she started competing, Jessica was selected as Maryland’s Female Swimmer of the Year with a Disability. Even though Jessica was annoyed with her physical limitations, she was encouraged to enter her first Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece. She won three gold medals in swimming at 12! But she did not rest on her success. Jessica has gone on to win 23 medals for Team USA at the Paralympics! While she began her career out of anger and annoyance, she now has a positive force on a mission to inspire the next generation of Paralympians! Her attitude and growth have been keys to her success. Jessica always believed she could do anything. As she says, “The only disability in life is a negative attitude.” 4. What happened to Jessica when she was a baby? A. She was left in the wild. B. She has won 23 gold medals in Paralympics. C. She was the youngest athlete in US history. D. She took part in several sports in Paralympics. 7. What does the author want to tell us? A. A common danger causes common action. B. Never hit a man when he is down. C. Nothing is impossible to a determined heart. D. Difficult the first time, easy the second. B 5. C 6. A 7. 根据第二段中的“Jessica was born in Irkutsk, Russia with a severe and rare disease — fibular hemimelia (悱侧半肢畸形). (杰西卡出生于俄罗斯伊尔库茨克,患有一种严重而罕见的疾病——腓侧半肢畸形)”和第三段中的“But unfortunately, both of her legs had to be removed when she was just 18 months old. (但不幸的是,在她18个月大的时候,她的双腿都被切除了)”可知,在她18个月大的时候,Jessica的双腿因患病被截肢了。故选B项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中的“She began swimming at her grandparents’ house when she was 6. She started competitive swimming about 4 years later. (她6岁时开始在祖父母家游泳。大约4年后,她开始了竞技游泳)”可知,竞技游泳需要接受专业游泳训练,Jessica是在10岁时开始接受专业游泳训练的。故选C项。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“While she began her career out of anger and annoyance, she now has a positive force on a mission to inspire the next generation of Paralympians! (虽然她出于愤怒和烦恼开始了自己的职业生涯,但她现在在激励下一代残奥会运动员的使命上拥有了积极的力量!)”可知,Jessica的事迹鼓舞着一代又一代的残奥运动员们。由此可推知,Jessica是残奥运动员们的榜样。故选A项。 通读全文,尤其是由文章最后一段“Jessica has gone on to win 23 medals for Team USA at the Paralympics! While she began her career out of anger and annoyance, she now has a positive force on a mission to inspire the next generation of Paralympians! Her attitude and growth have been keys to her success. Jessica always believed she could do anything. As she says, “The only disability in life is a negative attitude.” (Jessica在残奥会上为美国队赢得了23枚奖牌!虽然她在愤怒和烦恼中开始了她的职业生涯,但她现在有了一种积极的力量,她的使命是激励下一代残奥会运动员!她的态度和成长是她成功的关键。Jessica一直相信自己无所不能。正如她所说:“生活中唯一的残疾就是消极的态度。”)”可知,文章讲述了Jessica Long尽管双腿被截肢,但她永不言弃,在残奥会中赢得了游泳金牌的故事。由此可推知,作者想通过本文告诉我们“Nothing is impossible to a determined heart. (世上无难事,只怕有心人)”。故选C项。 C In recent years, towns across Italy have been racing to launch plans aimed at attracting new residents (居民) to revive the towns. From deserted homes selling for a euro, to ready-to-occupy houses at low prices, there has been a tendency (趋势) for competition. The picturesque town of Presicce is the latest to enter the game with a very alluring offer. Officials say they will pay people up to 30,000 euros to buy an empty house and take up residency. Even better, the houses for sale as part of the deal are priced around 25,000 euros. The cash motivation is expected to breathe new life into the depopulating town, where newborns are fewer each year. The history of Presicce dates back to the Middle Ages, developing quickly during the Renaissance (文艺复兴) as a place known for its fine wine, cheeses and cattle trade. It gains a name as a “town of green gold” for green olive trees and olive oil. Its location is extremely good, surrounded by the nature of the Salento area and close to beautiful beaches and clear waters of Santa Maria di Leuca. “There are many empty homes in the historical center built before 1991 which we would like to see alive again with new residents,” says local spokesman Alfredo Palese. “It is a pity seeing how our old districts full of history, wonderful architecture and art are slowly emptying.” According to Palese, a 2019 merger (合并) with the nearby town Acquarica to create the larger town Presicce-Acquarica has provided them with extra money to ensure the project can continue for years to come. “After the merger as per Italian law, our wider territory (领土) will be blessed with more public funds, about 1,000,000 euros per year for several years forward, which we intend to invest to renew the old district,” says Palese. The town hall has already launched other plans to attract more residents, including tax benefits to set up new business activities and baby bonuses for families with kids. 8. What problem do many Italian towns face? A. Economic issue. B. Rising business competition. C. Population reduction. D. Poor housing market. 9. What does the underlined word “alluring” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Attractive. B. Conditional. C. Official. D. Reasonable. 10. What’s the author’s purpose of writing paragraph 3? A. To show Presicce’s past glory. B. To introduce Presicce’s traditional culture. C. To advertise a historical town. D. To stress the importance of reviving Presicce. 11. Why did Presicce and Acquarica merge in 2019? A. To create wider territory. B. To follow Italian law. C. To attract more investment. D. To gain more funds. C 9. A 10. D 11. 根据第一段中“In recent years, towns across Italy have been racing to launch plans aimed at attracting new residents (居民) to revive the towns.(近年来,意大利各地的城镇都在竞相推出旨在吸引新居民的计划,以振兴城镇)”和第二段中“The cash motivation is expected to breathe new life into the depopulating town, where newborns are fewer each year.(现金激励有望给这个人口不断减少的小镇带来新的生机,这里的新生儿每年都在减少。)” 根据第二段中“Officials say they will pay people up to 30,000 euros to buy an empty house and take up residency. Even better, the houses for sale as part of the deal are priced around 25,000 euros. The cash motivation is expected to breathe new life into the depopulating town, where newborns are fewer each year.( 官员们表示,他们将向购买空房子并居住的人支付高达3万欧元的费用。更妙的是,作为交易的一部分,待售房屋的价格在2.5万欧元左右。现金激励有望给这个人口不断减少的小镇带来新的生机,这里的新生儿每年都在减少。)”可知,能够以更低的价格购买房并且购买房子后还可以得到一笔费用,由此可知,这是一个非常诱人的条件。故可猜测划线单词alluring为“诱人的,有吸引力的”意思,和A选项Attractive“有吸引力的”意思一致。故选A项。 根据第三段“The history of Presicce dates back to the Middle Ages, developing quickly during the Renaissance (文艺复兴) as a place known for its fine wine, cheeses and cattle trade. “It is a pity seeing how our old districts full of history, wonderful architecture and art are slowly emptying.”(普雷西塞的历史可以追溯到中世纪,在文艺复兴时期迅速发展,成为一个以优质葡萄酒、奶酪和牲畜贸易而闻名的地方。 根据第四段中“According to Palese, a 2019 merger (合并) with the nearby town Acquarica to create the larger town Presicce-Acquarica has provided them with extra money to ensure the project can continue for years to come.(根据Palese的说法,2019年与附近的小镇Acquarica合并,创建了更大的小镇presicice-Acquarica,为他们提供了额外的资金,以确保该项目可以在未来几年继续进行。)” D From AI-made jokes to Harry Potter fashion videos, AI can be used to make funny things. But can it be as funny as a human? And if it can, does it present a danger to comedy (喜剧) writers in the future? That’s something performers have been looking at in this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, running from Aug 4 to 28. Anyone can put on a show at the Fringe, and this year even robots were getting in on the act. One of Fringe’s big shows even used a small robot to come up with jokes from audience suggestions, which were then performed by humans. The results could be very funny, but sometimes they weren’t funny at all. That was part of the point, explained Piotr Mirowski, the show’s co-maker. “We do not use humans to ‘show off’ AI; instead, we use AI ‘to show’ its limitations, to showcase human creativity on the stage,” said Mirowski, according to the Guardian. But one performer at the Fringe said he’s using AI to make jokes for him because he’s out of ideas. Comedian Peter Bazely’s show has him playing a supporting role to “an entirely computer-generated (生成的) comedian” called AI Jesus. The Fringe review website, Chortle, talked about today’s AI concerns: “In a world where artists are worried that AI could end up doing their jobs for them, Bazely is said to be praying this one will do exactly that.” The reasons for companies wanting to use Al are certainly understandable, but the dangers they present to many people’s jobs are becoming more and more real, and that’s not very funny. From concerns in schools and colleges about students using ChatGPT for their work, to writers and actors worrying that AI could be used to replace them, fears about the dangers of AI are a hot topic in the world. Back in March of this year, a letter calling for a six-month stop on advanced AI development was signed by over 1,000 people working with AI technologies including Elon Musk and other well-known tech leaders, reported The New York Times. Then, in May, leaders in the AI industry signed a document warning that AI could present an extinction-level danger and “should be a global priority (优先事项) alongside... diseases and nuclear war.” 12. In what way is the Fringe unique this year? A. The AI-made jokes were very funny. B. It presented dangers to comedy writers. C. Some jokes were created by robots. D. Harry Potter fashion videos were shown. 13. Which of the following is true according to Paragraph 4? A. AI Jesus is an expert in jokes. B. Bazely was positive about using AI. C. Al was used to show its creativity. D. Chortle was concerned about the use of AI. 14. Why does AI present a danger in the future? A. Because many people will use AI to show off. B. Because AI can present diseases and nuclear war. C. Because well-known tech leaders will stop developing AI. D. Because some people will probably be out of work. 15. What’s the author’s attitude to the future of the AI development? A. Objective. B. Positive. C. Unclear. D. Negative. C 13. B 14. D 15. 根据第二段的“Anyone can put on a show at the Fringe, and this year even robots were getting in on the act. One of Fringe’s big shows even used a small robot to come up with jokes from audience suggestions, which were then performed by humans.(任何人都可以在艺穗节上表演,今年甚至连机器人都加入了这个行列。Fringe上的一个大型节目甚至使用了一个小型机器人根据观众的建议想出笑话,然后由人类表演)”可知,今年的Fringe独特之处在于一些笑话是由机器人创造的。故选C。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段的“Comedian Peter Bazely’s show has him playing a supporting role to “an entirely computer-generated (生成的) comedian” called AI Jesus. The Fringe review website, Chortle, talked about today’s AI concerns: “In a world where artists are worried that AI could end up doing their jobs for them, Bazely is said to be praying this one will do exactly that.”(喜剧演员彼得·巴泽利在他的节目中扮演了一个由‘完全计算机生成的喜剧演员’AI耶稣担任主角的配角。边缘艺术节的评论网站Chortle谈到了当今的AI担忧:‘在一个艺术家担心AI最终会取代他们的工作的世界里,据说巴泽利在祈祷这一幕真的会发生。’)”可知,Bazely希望人工智能可以为他完成工作;由此可知,Bazely对AI的使用持积极的态度。故选B。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段“The reasons for companies wanting to use Al are certainly understandable, but the dangers they present to many people’s jobs are becoming more and more real, and that’s not very funny. From concerns in schools and colleges about students using ChatGPT for their work, to writers and actors worrying that AI could be used to replace them, fears about the dangers of AI are a hot topic in the world.(公司想要使用人工智能的原因当然是可以理解的,但它们给许多人的工作带来的危险越来越真实,这并不好笑。从学校和大学中对学生使用ChatGPT完成作业的担忧,到作家和演员担心AI会被用来取代他们,对AI危险的恐惧已成为全球热议的话题)”可推知,AI在未来会带来危险是因为它可能会让一些人失业。故选D。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Back in March of this year, a letter calling for a six-month stop on advanced AI development was signed by over 1,000 people working with AI technologies including Elon Musk and other well-known tech leaders, reported The New York Times. Then, in May, leaders in the AI industry signed a document warning that AI could present an extinction-level danger and “should be a global priority (优先事项) alongside... diseases and nuclear war.”(据《纽约时报》报道,早在今年3月,包括埃隆·马斯克(Elon Musk)和其他知名科技领袖在内的1000多名人工智能技术工作人员签署了一封呼吁停止先进人工智能开发6个月的信件。 故选A。 It is natural for cats to feel threatened by unfamiliar cats, especially if they are generally more of a timid (胆小的) cat. If you’re set on adding another cat to your home, you’d better plan the introduction carefully. Here are some useful tips for you. Full preparation There are a lot of things you should do in advance. ____16____ Set aside a room for it, making sure it has at least two comfortable sleeping areas, a water bowl, a feeding area, a scratching post and toys. When the day comes to bring your new cat home, take it straight to “its” room. Allow it to come out of its room in its own time. Scent exchange ____17____ This will help it settle down and allows you to introduce it to your existing cat via scent. Exchange clothes that each cat has slept on, and toys. Place these somewhere the cats will come across them in their own rooms, but away from beds, bowls and litter trays. If neither cat show signs of avoidance or aggression (攻击性) towards the clothes, you can directly exchange scent between the cats. Stroke (轻抚) one cat, especially around the cheeks and area in front of the cars, and then go directly to the other cat and stroke it. ____18____ ____19____ Firstly, shut your first cat in a separate room and allow your new cat out of its room to explore. Once the new cat is familiar with the layout of the house and where escape routes and safe places are, you can let your other cat out. Keep an eye on them for any avoidant or aggressive behavior, such as running away and hiding, cars going back or hissing. ____20____ But never punish your cats for aggressive behavior or your cats may never become best friends. A. Close watch. B. Less punishment. C. Repeat the action in the other direction. D. And be ready to take action before it’s too late. E. Your new cat needs to stay in its room for several days. F. Prepare an independent space for your new cat before you bring it home. G. To reduce fight, ensure both cats have their own food, water and litter trays. 16 F 17. E 18. C 19. A 20. Look who I brought home!” My father stuck his head out from behind the door, flashing a big smile. My heart skipped a beat as I mouthed, “A dog?” Nodding, my father pushed the door open, revealing a large German Shepherd. I grasped my hands tightly over my mouth and failed to hold back a sharp scream. Rushing back into my room, I locked the door and covered the gap between it and the floor with tape. I had a strong fear and great hate of dogs ever since I was bitten by one badly on the face, leaving a huge and deep scar(伤疤). I decided to stay in my room until the dog had gone for a walk with my father. After what seemed like ages, I heard the door open and shut. “Finally! I can get out of here,” I thought. Out of great joy, I threw open the door and punched(用拳猛击) the air. At that moment, I felt something wet touching my foot. To my shock, it was the dog! I stood there, scared and shocked as if my feet were rooted to the ground. When I regained my calmness, I shouted loudly, “Ahhh! It is the dog! Help! He wants to bite me! Get him away from me!” My father was standing at the door, folding his arms and laughing quietly. “He is not going to eat you! Jane, don’t be so scared. Go on! Touch him!” he said. Attempting to show my unwillingness, I failed to do so due to my constant and uncontrollable shaking. Instead, I shouted loudly, “Never! I will never touch that dirty thing! Go away!” I picked up a tennis ball on the table and aimed at the dog but missed, causing the ball to roll across the living room. The dog barked excitedly before running across the room to fetch the ball and bring it back to me. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The following day, gathering my courage, I decided to follow my father when he took the dog out for a walk. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】The dog barked excitedly before running across the room to fetch the ball and bring it back to me. I was about to open my mouth to say “So cute”, but I resisted the urge and shouted, “Stupid dog! That is my favourite tennis ball and you just covered it with your mouth liquid! You stupid dog!” Unfortunately, the look on my face sold me out. I was laughing, my eyes lit up and I started to pet the dog. He was just so cute and lovable, and began to lie on his stomach beside my feet, enjoying my touch with his eyes slightly closed. The following day, gathering my courage, I decided to follow my father when he took the dog out for a walk. Filled with joy and enthusiasm, I opened the gate. Just as I put one foot outside the gate, suddenly, deep barks sounded from up ahead. At the sight of several dogs wondering there, I stopped with my legs trembling! All at once, my dog violently barked back, causing the dogs to flee away. I regained my calmness, smiled and praised my dog. We three walked on, breathing the sweet air. From that day on, I overcame my problem—my fear of dogs. 词汇激活 行为类 ①吠叫:barked/howled/yapped ②催促:urge/impulse ③出卖了我:sold me out/betrayed me/revealed my true feelings 情绪类 ①喜悦:joy/pleasure/delight ②热情:enthusiasm/passion 【点睛】[高分句型1]He was just so cute and lovable, and began to lie on his stomach beside my feet, enjoying my touch with his eyes slightly closed.(现在分词作伴随状语) [高分句型2]Filled with joy and enthusiasm I opened the gate.(过去分词作状语) 听力1-5CBCAB 6-10ACBCB 11-15ABCBB 16-20CABAC 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2023-2024学年度上学期武汉市重点中学5G联合体期末考试 高一英语试卷 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 听下面5段对话。 1. B Jessica Long, from Baltimore, Maryland, USA is a champion by all definitions of the word. C In recent years, towns across Italy have been racing to launch plans aimed at attracting new residents (居民) to revive the towns. 8. Why did Presicce and Acquarica merge in 2019? A. To create wider territory. B. To follow Italian law. C. To attract more investment. D. To gain more funds. D From AI-made jokes to Harry Potter fashion videos, AI can be used to make funny things. A. Objective. B. Positive. C. Unclear. D. Negative. It is natural for cats to feel threatened by unfamiliar cats, especially if they are generally more of a timid (胆小的) cat. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力1-5CBCAB 6-10ACBCB 11-15ABCBB 16-20CABAC 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
