Along with firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce and vinegar, tea is considered one of the seven necessities for life in China. Now, it has also won global recognition as a shared cultural treasure of mankind.
On Nov. 29, Chinese traditional tea processing skills and their related social practices were added to the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) list. Since ancient times, Chinese people have been planting, picking, making and drinking tea.
More importantly, China’s tea culture has formed Chinese customs. It is Chinese traditional custom that a host should welcome visiting guests with boiled tea. A poem by Song poet Du Lei reads, “I offer tea, not wine, to a guest on a cold night. When water boils on the stove, fire burns with flame bright.”
Boiling tea is one of the oldest Chinese tea brewing methods, dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618—907). Tea leaves were boiled for a long time and sometimes they were cooked together with different kinds of herbs and fruits. During this process, people can enjoy a quiet time. Later in the Ming Dynasty (1368—1644), a faster and more convenient method become more popular—steeping (冲泡).
________. On the app Xiaohongshu, or Little Red Book, there are over 40,000 posts on the topic of “stove-boiled tea” (围炉煮茶). They lightly roast tea leaves before boiling them in a teapot on a stove. People sit around the stove in a natural setting and have snacks with their hot tea. Some also wear traditional hanfu as if it could take them back to those ancient times. Through “stove-boiled tea”, people can taste a slower life and find their inner peace. As is written in one Xiaohongshu post, “It is very relaxing to drink hot tea, feel the fall breeze, and chat with best friends.”
14. The writer introduces the topic by ________.
A. asking questions B. listing numbers
C. telling stories D. stating facts
15. We can learn from the third paragraph that ________.
A. Du Lei is a great poet in Tang-Dynasty

17. The writer writes this passage to ________.
A. introduce a popular way of making tea, “stove-boiled tea”
B. invite more and more people around the world to visit China

To celebrate his friend’s birthday, Luke Fortune drove from a small town in Central Oregon to Portland, where he parked his car in a paid garage overnight. The next morning, he discovered that the car’s window had been smashed, along with his dreams for the future: His backpack and computer were gone.
“Everything important to me was on that computer,” said Fortune, 21, who is studying to become a paramedic (护理人员).
Two days after the theft, another young man was standing outside his apartment, also in Portland. Masoud Almazrouei, 29, was an exchange student from the United Arab Emirates. He had been approached by a man who said he had a computer for sale. Only $200. Almazrouei, who had been in the United States for only a year, admits now that he was naive. But he needed a computer so he bought it, took it home, and turned it on. Within seconds, he saw files and photographs.
“I wondered who would sell a computer with all of this on it,” he said. “I realized it could be stolen.” Almazrouei found what appeared to be the owner’s cell phone number and called it.
Fortune didn’t trust this guy with a thick accent and thought it was a seam.
Soon after, a police officer called Fortune to say that a man had dropped the computer off and said he was sorry. He passed along the man’s number.
Fortune called and thanked Almazrouei and insisted on paying him a reward of $200, the money he was out. Almazrouei refused. He said it was his mistake to buy the computer from someone he didn’t know. More importantly, he said, it was his honor and duty as a Muslim (穆斯林) to return the property to the rightful owner. “I saw a photo of this man in his paramedic uniform,” Almazrouei said. “They help people. He is a good man. I don’t want my money back.”
Still, the encounter produced its own kind of rewards. For Fortune, it was a lesson of cultural awareness during the sometimes terrible national argument about immigrants (移民), especially from the Arab world. “I’m from a small mainly white town,” Fortune said. “I’ve never met a Muslim. To my surprise, he’s a good man.”
Almazrouei’s lesson was perhaps beyond words. When a story about the two young men’s encounter made it to the local papers, Almazrouei received a call from Wim Wiewel, the president of Portland State University, where Almazrouei is studying economics.
“We thought since you gave back the laptop, we should give you a laptop so that you’ll have one,” Wiewel told him. “We’re very proud of you. It was a great story, and you did the right thing.”
18. What is the correct order of the events that happened?
①The computer was stolen in a paid garage.
②Almazrouei found a lot of files and photographs in the computer.
③Undoubtedly, Almazrouei bought the computer at $200.
④Almazrouei called Fortune but it didn’t work.
A. ①②③④ B. ①③②④ C. ③④②① D. ②①③④
19. The underlined word “seam” in Para. 5 is closest in meaning to “________”.
A. trick B. game C. disaster D. accident
20. What does the author mean by saying “Still, the encounter produced its own kind of rewards” in Para. 8?
A. Almazrouei’s kindness eventually paid off.
B. Almazrouei received a reward of $200 from the university.
C. Fortune could realize his dream with his computer back.
D. Both of the young men gained something in their own way.
21. What can be inferred from the passage?
A. Theft is common in Portland.
B. Almazrouei was short of money.
C. Fortune could not realize his dreams without his computer.
D. Both of the young men are students.

【21题详解】

Advertisers tend to think big and perhaps this is why they’re always coming in for criticism. Their critics (批评家) seem to hate them because they have so much money to throw around. Why don’t they stop advertising and reduce the price of their goods? After all, it’s the consumer who pays.
The poor old consumer! He’d have to pay a great deal more if advertising didn’t create mass markets for products. It is precisely because of the heavy advertising that consumer goods are so cheap. But we get the wrong idea if we think the only purpose of advertising is to sell goods. Another equally important function is to inform. A great deal of the knowledge we have about household goods is largely from the advertisements we read. Advertisements introduce us to new products or remind us of the existence of ones we already know about. Supposing you wanted to buy a washing machine, it is more than likely you would obtain details regarding performance, price, etc., from an advertisement.
Lots of people pretend (假装) that they never read advertisements, but this claim may be seriously doubted. It is hardly possible not to read advertisements these days. And what fun they often are, too! Just think what a railway station or a newspaper would be like without advertisements. Would you enjoy gazing at a blank wall while waiting for a train? A cheerful, witty advertisement makes such a difference to a dull wall or a newspaper full of the incidents and disasters.
We must not forget, either, that advertising makes a positive contribution to our pockets. The fact that we pay so little for our daily paper, or can enjoy so many broadcast programmers is due entirely to the money spent by advertisers. Just think what a newspaper would cost if we had to pay its full price!
Another thing we mustn’t forget is the “small ads.” What a useful service they perform for the community! Just about anything can be accomplished through these columns. For instance, you can find a job, buy or sell a house, announce a birth, marriage or death in what used to be called the “hatch, match and dispatch” column (栏目) but by far the most fascinating section is the personal or “agony” column. No other item in a newspaper provides such entertaining reading or offers such a deep insight into human nature. It’s the best advertisement for advertising there is!
22. What is the main idea of this passage?
A. Advertisements steal money from our pockets
B. The critics get the wrong idea of advertisements.
C. In some ways, advertisers perform various useful services.
D. Advertisements are everywhere, and we all need them.
23. What is the attitude of the author toward advertisements?
A. He appreciates the role of advertisements. B. He doubts the effect of advertisements.
C. He believes what is said in advertisements. D. He complains too many advertisements in daily life.
24. If there is no advertisement on a newspaper,
A. we will not buy newspapers. B. a newspaper will cost us less.
C. a newspaper will cost us more. D. our life will be more colourful.
25. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage? (①=Paragraph 1, ②=paragraph 2, ③=paragraph 3, ④=paragraph 4, ⑤=paragraph 5)
A. B. C. D.
【答案】22. C 23. A 24. C 25. D

A. ①②③④ B. ①③②④ C. ③④②① D. ②①③④

C a newspaper will cost us more. D. our life will be more colourful.
25. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage? (①=Paragraph 1, ②=paragraph 2, ③=paragraph 3, ④=paragraph 4, ⑤=paragraph 5)

Li Jiaxin, 30, started her new business two years ago in Beijing. “I wasn’t happy with my old job, so I began to explore new careers,” Li said, “and I chose to be a decluttering(整理收纳师). As most of my friends think that I’m good at tidying things up.”
Li finds joy in decluttering. “One of my clients(客户)impressed me a lot. She found us and said that her messy room was giving her a bad mood,” Li said. After discussing their decluttering plan, Li and her team spent three days finishing their work.
They started by emptying all the closets(橱柜), finding the items the client really needed.
They also improved the layout(布局)of the closets, adding more boxes to better classify(分类) items. “There were so many clothes that we had to sit on the floor during our lunch break as this was the only free space.” Li said. After the work was done, the client was surprised to see her house become tidier and brighter. “It was then that I realized our work wasn’t only about organizing things but bring brighter moods to clients and let them wake up every morning with a better view,” Li added.
Li said that understanding design is necessary for the job. This knowledge helps the consultant quickly come up with a plan. Being able to deal with unexpected situations is also needed for being decluttering consultants. Even the smallest and simplest rooms bring about problems like limiting the possibility for a new layout.
54. How was the client’s house after Li’s work?
