When she was young, Sylvia Colt- Lacayo noticed she was particularly fascinated with on- screen stories. Media offered an escape when life was hard.
Watching Glee, she was thrilled to see a character who used a wheelchair like her — until she learned the role was played by an actor who was not disabled. “I remember feeling so heartbroken and betrayed (背叛), for no reason other than the fact that I felt seen for once as a 10- year- old watching Glee, and the power of that,” says Colt- Lacayo.
Now, Colt- Lacayo is graduating from Stanford with a degree in film and media studies and is heading to Hollywood with a passion for increasing disability representation and diversity in general. “Representation matters, and I also think that diverse storytelling is what is most compelling (令人信服的),” she said.
Representation shaped Colt- Lacayo’s path to Stanford. As a disabled Latina girl, she struggled to imagine going to college, in part because she never saw adult wheelchair users in the media. In high school, she met- another Stanford student who was also a wheelchair user at a conference. Suddenly, a new story felt possible.
When she arrived at Stanford, Colt- Lacayo knew she was often the first visibly disabled student her professors and peers had interacted with. Her parents had taught her to advocate for herself, and while she doesn’t claim the label “activist”, she asks for what she needs.
“Yes, there’s something that is in my DNA that makes my body different from other people’s. But really, what makes me disabled is that people treat me differently, and I do not have equal access to resources,” she said.
She brought this perspective to her Stanford experience. For her senior thesis (论文), she wrote a screenplay examining how growing up with a disability impacts one’s relationship with oneself and one’s understanding of the world.
Colt- Lacayo aims to become an agent for screenwriters and film direętors. She hopes that sharing her story gives others the example she wished for when she was young.
4. How did Colt- Lacayo initially feel while watching Glee?
A. Overjoyed and inspired. B. Honored and confident.
C. Heartbroken and betrayed. D. Sorrowful and sympathetic.
5. What helped Colt- Lacayo picture herself going to college?
A. Her keen interest in films and media.
B. Diverse stories she heard about disability.
C. An example of a disabled Stanford student.
D. A passion for increasing disability representation.
6. What insight did Colt- Lacayo gain about living with a disability?
A. It naturally leads one to grow into a social activist.
B. It mainly involves overcoming physical limitations.
C. It offers special advantages for accessing resources.
D. It influences one’s outlook on the world and oneself.
7. What is the best title of the text?
A. Telling Stories That Matter B. Speaking up for Equality
C. Struggling to Enter Stanford D. Conquering Physical Challenges
A 5. C 6. D 7. A
根据第二段中“Watching Glee, she was thrilled to see a character who used a wheelchair like her —— until she learned the role was played by an actor who was not disabled.( 她看了《欢乐合唱团》后非常激动,因为剧中有一个像她一样使用轮椅的角色,直到她发现这个角色是由一个没有残疾的演员扮演的。)”以及““I remember feeling so heartbroken and betrayed (背叛), for no reason other than the fact that I felt seen for once as a 10- year- old watching Glee, and the power of that,” says Colt- Lacayo. 故选A。
根据第四段“In high school, she met- another Stanford student who was also a wheelchair user at a conference. Suddenly, a new story felt possible.( 高中时,她在一次会议上遇到了另一位斯坦福大学的学生,他也是轮椅使用者。突然间,一个新的故事似乎成为可能。)”可知,Colt-Lacayo在高中时遇到了一个同样是轮椅用户的斯坦福学生,这让她觉得上大学的可能性变得更加可能。因此,是这位残疾的斯坦福学生给她提供了上大学的可能性,帮助她想象自己也能上大学。故选C。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中“She brought this perspective to her Stanford experience. For her senior thesis (论文), she wrote a screenplay examining how growing up with a disability impacts one’s relationship with oneself and one’s understanding of the world.(她把这种观点带到了她在斯坦福的经历中。在她的毕业论文中,她写了一个剧本,研究残疾的成长如何影响一个人与自己的关系以及一个人对世界的理解。)”可知,Colt-Lacayo在她的毕业论文中写了一个剧本,探讨了成长过程中残疾如何影响一个人对自己和世界的认知。因此,她得出的见解是残疾会影响一个人对自己和世界的看法。故选D。
【7题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据第三段“Now, Colt- Lacayo is graduating from Stanford with a degree in film and media studies and is heading to Hollywood with a passion for increasing disability representation and diversity in general. “Representation matters, and I also think that diverse storytelling is what is most compelling (令人信服的),” she said.(现在,Colt- Lacayo即将从斯坦福大学毕业,获得电影和媒体研究学位,并怀着增加残疾人代表性和多样性的热情前往好莱坞。 故选A。
C
What if you threw a party and nobody came, but that’s exactly what you expected? That’s precisely what famous physicist Stephen Hawking did on June 28, 2009. He rented a space at Cambridge University and got balloons and decorations. Then he sat in the empty room for a few hours and left.
Essentially, Hawking’s time travel party was held for our future generations, should they ever crack the mystery of time travel. one of the biggest challenges faced by modern physics. The setup may seem silly, but Hawking was actually experimenting. That’s because our current knowledge of physics does not strictly forbid time travel. Indeed, in some cases, it’s clearly allowed.
The general theory of relativity provides several situations that might enable time travel into the past. One involves a limitlessly long cylinder (圆柱体), which rotates (旋转) fast enough to allow you to travel a path around it and end up in the past. Another is the creation of a worm hole with different time at each end, allowing you to travel down one end and exit into the past.
Since nobody showed up to Hawking’s time travel party, we have a few possible conclusions:
Time travel into the past is not allowed. Our future generations will discover the fundamental reason why time travel into the past is forbidden and sigh regretfully that they could not accept Hawking’s invitation.
Time travel into the past is allowed, but we figure it out so far into the future that Hawking’s invitation doesn’t survive long enough.
Time travel into the past is allowed, but we never figure it out. Maybe our human intellect isn’t quite powerful enough to detect the deeper mysteries of the universe.
Time travel into the past is allowed, but there are rules. Maybe it is exceptionally complicated to build a time machine, or we can send signals into the past, but not entire persons.
Of course, if someone from the future had shown up, it would’ve been a big deal. But, as experiments go, Hawking’s party wasn’t a total failure. In this case, it showed that the mystery of time travel will remain unsolved-at least for the time being.
8. Why did Stephen Hawking throw the party?
A. To publicize his fame. B. To test a physics assumption.
C. To welcome certain visitors. D. To benefit future generations.
9. What does paragraph 3 mainly discuss regarding time travel into the past?
A. Its vital significance. B. Its possible methods.
C. Its potential influence. D. Its practical applications.
10. What possibly led to nobody coming to Hawking’s party?
A. Lost invitation. B. Disturbed signals.
C. Powerful intelligence. D. Insufficient attention.
11. What does the author think of Hawking’s party?
A. It was valuable. B. It was impractical.
C. It was confusing. D. It was transformative.
B 9. B 10. A 11. A
根据第二段的“Essentially, Hawking’s time travel party was held for our future generations, should they ever crack the mystery of time travel. one of the biggest challenges faced by modern physics. The setup may seem silly, but Hawking was actually experimenting. That’s because our current knowledge of physics does not strictly forbid time travel.(本质上,霍金的时间旅行派对是为我们的后代举办的,如果他们能够解开时间旅行的谜团。这是现代物理学面临的最大挑战之一。这种设置可能看起来很愚蠢,但霍金实际上是在做实验。这是因为我们目前的物理学知识并没有严格禁止时间旅行)”可知,霍金举办这个派对是为了进行一个实验,测试时间旅行的假设。故选B。
【9题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第三段的“The general theory of relativity provides several situations that might enable time travel into the past.(广义相对论提供了几种可能使时间旅行回到过去的情况)”以及整段可知,第三段主要讨论了几种可能实现时间旅行的方法,包括旋转的无限长圆柱体和虫洞。
根据第六段“Time travel into the past is allowed, but we figure it out so far into the future that Hawking’s invitation doesn’t survive long enough.(过去的时间旅行是允许的,但我们发现,到目前为止,霍金的邀请并没有持续足够长的时间)”可知,时间旅行到过去是被允许的, 但我们却在太遥远的未来才发现,以至于霍金的邀请无法长久存在,不会延续到未来。 故选A。
根据最后一段的“But, as experiments go, Hawking’s party wasn’t a total failure. In this case, it showed that the mystery of time travel will remain unsolved-at least for the time being.(但是,就实验而言,霍金的派对并没有完全失败。在这种情况下,它表明时间旅行的奥秘将至少暂时无法解开)”可知,尽管没有人出席,但霍金的派对并不是完全失败的实验,它展示了时间旅行的神秘性仍然未解。由此可推知,作者认为霍金的实验是有价值的。故选A。
D
Salad plants have already been grown in old shelters and tunnels. Urban farming is a regular topic of interest at places like the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, where leaders consider whether the world’s food system, blamed for causing both obesity and malnutrition, can be fixed. There are already plenty of urban farming projects around the world, particularly in the US, Japan and the Netherlands, from urban fish and plant farms to vertical farming.
“It’s becoming an expanding industry,” said Richard Ballard, one of the founders of the farm Growing Underground. “There are several other businesses starting up in London in containers, and there are other vertical farms around the country now.”
Growing Underground is not a standard farm. The rows of crops could be in almost any tunnel, but these plants are 100 feet below Clapham High Street and show that urban agriculture is, in some cases at least, not a fad. The underground farm has occupied a part of the Second World War air-raid shelters for nearly five years, and Ballard is planning to expand into the rest of the space later this year.
Growing Underground supplies herb and salad mixes to grocery shops, supermarkets and restaurants. Being in London creates an advantage, Ballard says, as they can harvest and deliver in an hour.
He adds other advantages. Being underground means temperatures never go below 15 ----surface greenhouses need to be heated. They can do more harvests: 60 crops a year, compared with about seven in a traditional farm. Electricity to power the lights is a major cost, but the company believes renewable energy will become cheaper.
Similar British companies include the Jones Food Company in Lincolnshire, while in the US AeroFarms has several projects in New Jersey, and Edenworks in Brooklyn.
12. What can we learn about urban farming?
A. Different farming methods are used.
B. Local governments pay efforts to develop it.
C. It leads to a healthier lifestyle.
D. It is rarely discussed at the WEF.
13. Which of the following best explains “a fad” underlined in Paragraph 3?
A. A plan that has great potential.
B. A tradition that appeals to a lot of people.
C. An approach that can solve a serious problem.
D. A fashion that’s popular for a short time.
14. Which of the following is true about the underground farm?
A. Its major products are herbs and salads.
B. It produces more kinds of foods than a traditional farm.
C. It is more productive than a traditional farm.
D. It uses less energy than a greenhouse.
15. What is the theme of the text?
A. Traditional farming will be replaced soon.
B. Growing Underground attracts more people.
C. Current food system causes health problems.
D. Urban farming is still thought costly and time-consuming.
A 13. D 14. C 15. B
根据第一段“There are already plenty of urban farming projects around the world, particularly in the US, Japan and the Netherlands, from urban fish and plant farms to vertical farming.(世界各地已经有大量的城市农业项目,特别是在美国、日本和荷兰,从城市鱼类和植物农场到垂直农业)”可知,在城市农业中采用了不同的方法。故选A项。
根据画线词后文“The underground farm has occupied a part of the Second World War air-raid shelters for nearly five years, and Ballard is planning to expand into the rest of the space later this year.(这个“地下农场”在二战期间曾作为防空洞使用近5年,巴拉德计划在今年晚些时候将其扩展到其他地方)”可知,在克拉彭高街开展农业有历史由来,说明不是一种短时间内流行的时尚。
根据倒数第二段中“They can do more harvests: 60 crops a year, compared with about seven in a traditional farm.(他们可以收获更多的作物:一年60次,而传统农场一年只有7次)”可知,地下农场比传统的农场更多产。
根据第二段““It’s becoming an expanding industry,” said Richard Ballard, one of the founders of the farm Growing Underground. “There are several other businesses starting up in London in containers, and there are other vertical farms around the country now.”(“地下种植”农场的创始人之一Richard Ballard说:“这正在成为一个不断扩张的行业。”“伦敦还有其他几家集装箱企业正在起步,现在全国各地也有其他垂直农场。”)”结合文章主要介绍了如今城市农业的发展情况,其中“地下种植”农场的创始人表示这正在成为一个不断扩张的行业。文章还介绍了“地下种植”农场的一些特点和优势。可知,本文的主题是地下种植吸引了更多的人。故选B项。
第二节 (共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5)
When we are faced with a crisis, or if we have an important decision to make, many of us fall into the trap of over-thinking. We may keep thinking about something constantly and too long. ____16____ How can we stop ourselves from over-thinking?
Doing something to distract yourself is a good idea. You can find working with your hands is especially good. ____17____ Your brain simply doesn’t have the resources to split itself into a third activity, for example over-thinking.
____18____ Studies have shown that when someone views something in excitement and anxiety, the brain is forced to become stuck in the present because all of your senses are completely engaged. You do not have time to focus on something different, which can cause over-thinking.
Constant wishing, hoping and praying do not give you any relief. They just keep you stuck in one place. But taking the smallest step off the crisis really matters. It will set things in motion, making you like a snowball. ____19____
The traps are things that cause your natural ability to react without you realizing that there is a connection between the two. Thus, avoiding relevant traps is also a good idea. ____20____ For example, if one of your colleagues is so negative that she always drags you down, stop hanging out with her by having lunch alone at a nearby restaurant.
A. This mindset tends to ruin our day.
B. Put simply, out of sight, out of mind.
C. Just as a saying goes, once bitten, twice shy.
D. You are really getting your brain working for you.
E. Other activities are the ones that arouse your curiosity.
F. It engages your movement skills and thinking process.
G. Thus, you will gradually move yourself out of the feeling.
A 17. F 18. E 19. G 20. B
根据上文“We may keep thinking about something constantly and too long.(我们可能一直在想某件事,而且想得太久了)”和下文“How can we stop ourselves from over-thinking?(我们怎样才能阻止自己过度思考呢?)”
根据前文“You can find working with your hands is especially good.(你会发现用手干活特别好)”和后文“Your brain simply doesn’t have the resources to split itself into a third activity, for example over-thinking.(你的大脑没有足够的资源把自己分成第三个活动,比如过度思考)”可以推断这里填的是动手的两方面,故F选项“它涉及你的运动技能和思维过程”符合语境。故选F。
根据后文“Studies have shown that when someone views something in excitement and anxiety, the brain is forced to become stuck in the present because all of your senses are completely engaged. You do not have time to focus on something different, which can cause over-thinking.(研究表明,当一个人在兴奋和焦虑中看到某事时,大脑被迫陷入当下,因为你所有的感官都完全参与其中。你没有时间去关注不同的事情,这会导致过度思考)”可知,第三段整段,用兴奋、焦虑的态度看事情会抑制过度思考,兴奋对应E选项中的curiosity。且第二段doing something和E选项中的other对应上,故E选项“其他的活动会引起你的好奇心”符合语境。故选E。
【19题详解】
根据上文“Constant wishing, hoping and praying do not give you any relief. They just keep you stuck in one place. But taking the smallest step off the crisis really matters. It will set things in motion, making you like a snowball.(不断的希望、希望和祈祷并没有给你任何解脱。他们只会把你困在一个地方。但在危机中迈出最小的一步真的很重要。它会让事情动起来,让你像个雪球)”可以推断把事情拆成小步骤, 然后一点点滚雪球式完成, 故G选项“因此,你会逐渐摆脱这种感觉”突出一个 gradually逐渐,符合语境。故选G。
【20题详解】
根据前文“The traps are things that cause your natural ability to react without you realizing that there is a connection between the two. Thus, avoiding relevant traps is also a good idea.(陷阱是在你没有意识到这两者之间有联系的情况下,引起你的自然反应能力的事情。因此,避免相关的陷阱也是一个好主意)”和后文的例子远离负面情绪朋友,故B选项“眼不见心不烦”符合语境。故选B。

第二节 (满分25分)
57. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I had booked the flights in somewhat of a hurry with just a carry-on bag, thinking 7 kgs was enough for a 3-day trip to Taupo. I thought I’d given myself enough time to get to the airport, however, as often was the case, I was running late and had to pack my bag with little time left. Confused about what to carry, I stuffed all the clothes in my little bag, taking no notice of the weight.
Thirty minutes before the flight, I was waiting at my terminal (航站楼) in the airport and couldn’t stop smiling. I was too excited to go on a much-needed trip. A little while later, I heard an announcement “Passengers flying to Taupo on Flight NZ5091 are requested to weigh your cabin luggage and collect your tag”. I stood in the line waiting for my turn, clueless about how much my bag would weigh, deep inside hoping not over the weight limit.
When it was my turn, I placed my bag on the weighing scale and whoaaaa!! It was 9.4 kgs. I asked the flight attendant if I could buy $20 extra luggage allowance (行李费) as shown on the app but I was too late for it. Instead, I was asked to pay an additional fee of $65. I either had to pay or leave something away to bring it down to 7 kgs. I asked the attendant whether they would give my stuff back to me if I returned 3 days later and surprisingly I was told I wouldn’t get it back.
To me, a bad luggage experience had the power to completely sour a trip. With no other alternatives, I decided to give up some of my stuff. Unsettled, annoyed, disappointed! As I started removing the items, I saw a lady approaching me. It looked like she had heard the whole thing. She sat down next to me. “Are you OK? I should be able to help you.” She said.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I looked up, surprised, and saw her pointing at her bag. She said he didn’t take many things and could help me share some of my belongings. I couldn’t believe the help from a stranger. But, I thought to myself “this is the best way.” I am grateful to her for her kindness and transferred my overweight items to her bag. I managed to get on the plane without paying any extra fees. When we got on the plane, our seats were far apart and we didn’t communicate much, so I knew very little about this stranger.
While I was worried whether I could get my stuff back, the plane landed. There were a lot of people getting out of the plane. I was waiting for my turn and waiting for the strange woman to pass me by and return my stuff. In fact, I had been prepared for the worst. All sorts of disturbing thoughts ran through my mind. Just then, the strange woman tapped me on the shoulder. And voluntarily returned my things. I thanked the strange woman from the bottom of my heart. It also gave me a new faith in humanity.

B. It mainly involves overcoming physical limitations.
C. It offers special advantages for accessing resources.
D. It influences one’s outlook on the world and oneself.
7. What is the best title of the text?
A. Telling Stories That Matter B. Speaking up for Equality

Time travel into the past is not allowed Our future generations will discover the fundamental reason why time travel into the past is forbidden and sigh regretfully that they could not accept Hawking’s invitation.
