We sat together and rested quietly. We had not sat long before another person came in. There were no heavy clouds in the sky any more, and the moon became bright; and her light, coming in through a window near, shone full both on us and on the coming person, Miss Temple. “I came to find you, Jane Eyre,” said she. “I want you in my room, and as Helen is with you, she may come too.” We followed Miss Temple to her room. It had a good fire, and looked cheerful. Miss Temple told Helen to take a seat in a low arm-chair on one side of the fire place, and herself taking another, she called me to her side. “Is it all over?” she asked, looking down at my face. “Do you cry your sadness away?” “I am afraid I shall never do that.” “Why?” “Because someone wrongly accused me, and you and everybody else, will now think me a bad girl.” “We shall think you what you prove (证明) yourself to be, my child. Keep acting as a good girl, and you will make us happy.” “Shall I, Miss Temple?” “You will.” said Miss Temple, “You were accused of telling lies a lot when you were little. Can I have yours?” he asked. The doctor was heavier than John, and not such a good rider. But I did my very best and went as fast as possible. When we got to Birtwick Park, Squire Gordon was at the door. The doctor went into the house with him, and Joe led me to the stable. I was glad to be home. My legs were shaking, and I was very wet. Joe was young and he forgot to put a warm blanket on me. Then he gave me cold water to drink. Soon all my body began to shake and I felt very cold. A long time later John came back. Passage 1 Happy Rain on a Spring Night Good rain knows its time ▲ ; It will fall when comes spring. With wind it steals in night; Mute, it moistens each thing. O’er wild lanes dark cloud spreads; In boat a lantern looms. Dawn sees saturated reds; The town’s heavy with blooms. —Translated by Xu Yuanchong This famous poem, was written by Du Fu (712—770, Tang Dynasty) when he was living in Chengdu. Sometimes, he went to the farm in the field. The poem shows his care for farmers. The very first word, “Good”, shows Du’s joy and love for the spring rain. The rain is good because it “knows” the right time to come. Here Du uses personification, as if the rain was smart enough to come in time for the farmers’ busy season. The rain comes during the night without making any noise. Unlike the summer storms, the quiet spring rain finishes its task without being known. Next, Du describes a peaceful scene to us. In the night sky, the clouds look dark and heavy. It’s a sign that there will be enough rain during the night. The light from the riverboat makes the dark scene a bit livelier. You can sail (航行) it at Storvassdal,” he said. “Great,” I thought, looking around for the boat. But there was none. Grandfather pointed to a block of wood. “The boat is there,” he said. Then he handed me some tools and showed me how to use them correctly. “It’ll be a fine boat, and you’ll make it with your own hands,” he said, “No one can give you what you do for yourself.” The words rang in my head as I worked. The boat was finished. It wasn’t much to look at but I was proud. Then I sailed it at Storvassdal. We had to return to America. “You cannot bring that boat home with you,” my mother said. We had too much baggage. Feeling sad, I hid my boat under a big rock at Storvassal. I said goodbye to Grandfather, not knowing I would never see him again. In 1964, I went to Storvassdal with my parents and my wife and children. To my surprise, for 34 years my treasure stayed here, waiting for my return. Iceland? The North Pole? Actually, early this December, sky lovers in cities as south as Beijing could see them, too. They enjoyed the colored lights in the night sky. Auroras come about because of the special activities of the Sun. The Sun sends out very small particles (粒子) all the time. But sometimes, it becomes more active and lets out more. The particles travel in space like a wind. When they come near Earth, they go around it. This is because the magnetic field (磁场) of Earth “protects” us from the “Wind”. At the North and South Poles, however, some particles may get in and meet with Earth’s air. Then, the particles get “excited” and have a “dance” with the air. So, we can see the moving auroras in the sky. When the “wind” is strong enough, the auroras can cover larger areas. While we feel wowed by the beautiful lights, we often ask, “Do auroras hurt us?” The answer is no. Auroras don’t hurt people’s health. But for astronauts (宇航员) in space, they need to use special ways to protect themselves from them, said Xinhua. For example, they won’t go on spacewalks when there are “sun storms”. Also, the particle storms may stop some satellites (卫星) from working, so they may bring trouble to the GPS on our smartphones. 62.Where are small particles from? A.The Sun. B.The North Pole. C.The South Pole. D.Seas. 63.How do auroras form? A.The Sun sends out active particles. B.Particles from the Sun “dance” with the air on Earth. C.The strong wind helps them travel in space. D.The magnetic field of Earth changed small particles. 64.What can we learn about “sun storms” from the last paragraph? A.“Sun storms” will kill astronauts. B.People can enjoy “sun storms” in the night sky. C.“Sun storms” can stop GPS work well. D.“Sun storms” will cause more sun activities. 65.Where can we probably read this passage? A.In a storybook. B.In a science book. C.In a diary. In fact, it’s easier than you think. All you need to do is to buy a plane ticket to Peru (秘鲁). The South American country is home to wonderful natural sights, and one of the most amazing is Rainbow Mountain. Rainbow Mountain, also called Mountain of Seven Colors, lies in the Andes in Cusco. As its name shows, the mountain has different colors. It attracts (吸引) lots of tourists every year. But what makes the mountain look like it is painted in yellows, greens, reds, and purples? The reason is the ice that covered the area centuries ago. When it began to melt, the water mixed with minerals (矿物质) in the ground, turning the earth into the many colors you see today. If you plan your trip to the mountain, you’d better visit it during warmer months when there will be less rain or snow. Rain or snow will make the climbing more difficult and the colors will look duller (更暗淡的). The best time begins in March and lasts nine months, when there will be blue skies and pleasant weather. At the same time, visit it in the morning or during evening hours, either right after sunrise or right before sunset. Very sunny days may prevent you from taking nice photos. To get to Rainbow Mountain, you should first go to Cusco. From the city, you can take a two-or-three-hour car ride to Pitumarca. Then you have to make your way to Qesoyuno to start the journey on foot. Once you arrive at the base (大本营), it’s about a two-or-three-hour walk to the top. This really is the best way, but the trip is very challenging. The other important thing to remember is that the mountain sits at a really high elevation (纬度) about 5,200 meters above sea level, so prepare enough water and take your time. 66.How does the writer start the passage? A.By listing a fact. B.By telling a story. C.By asking a question. D.By giving an example. 67.What does the underlined word “melt” mean in Chinese? A.融化 B.熔化 C.蒸发 D.凝固 68.Which of the following is a perfect time for a trip to Rainbow Mountain? A.At noon of a cold day in December. B.On the evening of a rainy day in August. C.On the afternoon of a snowy day in January. D.On the morning of a sunny day in September. 【答案】66.C 67.A 68.D 【详解】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了秘鲁的彩虹山。 66.细节理解题。根据第一段“Did you ever dream of traveling all the way over the rainbow (彩虹)?”可知,在文章开头,作者先问了一个问题。故选C。 67.词义猜测题。根据第三段“The reason is the ice that covered the area centuries ago. History will never forget this day. A tsunami hit the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant (福岛第一核电站) in Japan in 2011. It broke the nuclear reactors (核反应堆), so the reactors became very hot. Since then, workers have been using a lot of water to keep them cool. The water touches the reactors, so it has a lot of radioactive materials (放射性物质). Nuclear wastewater (核废水) is different. It’s the waste from a normal power plant. The rules on whether or not the wastewater can be put into the ocean are clear. So processed (处理过的) nuclear wastewater is often seen as safe. But nuclear-contaminated water is not. Japan tries to mix the idea of the two kinds of water. The country says that the contaminated water goes through a special purifying process (过滤程序), and that it doesn’t hurt people’s health. However, the water has more than 60 kinds of radioactive materials. The materials will in the end hurt people’s health. China started to stop buying seafood from Japan on Aug 24th, 2023. Restaurants must not buy or use such seafood. As of Aug 28, both Russia and Thailand said that they were testing the seafood from Japan. 72.On Aug 24th 2023, where did Japan start putting nuclear-contaminated water? A.Into the ocean. Yet, in the Hoh Xil National Nature Reserve in Qinghai, one such wolf had a different fate. It grew from a poor, thin one to a fat, fit wolf because tourists in the area often fed it. This “act of kindness” led people to ask: Should tourists feed the wolf? Supporters think that without feeding, the wolf would die because it couldn’t get food by itself. But those who do not agree with the idea believe that humans should not mess with (干扰) natural order. Science, however, provides us with an answer. Research published in Scientific Reports in June 2019 studied how human feeding affected (影响) the lives of bottle-nose dolphins near Bun-bury, Australia. Dolphins there can sometimes get food from the Dolphin Discovery Centre. After studying more than 10 years of data, the scientists found that dolphins looking for food from boats had a higher risk of death than those who found food themselves. This is because they may get hit by boats or caught by fishing nets. Feeding wild animals may lead them to depend (依靠) on humans for food, said Dai Qiang, a scientist at the Chengdu Institute of Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. What’s more, sick animals may bring diseases (疾病) to people who feed them. So, if we come across a wild animal that seems to need our help, what should we do? Qi Xinzhang, deputy director of Xining Wildlife Park, said that it’s best to report the animal to the government instead of just feeding it. 84.What happened to the wolf in the Hoh Xil National Nature Reserve? A.It died in the end. B.It grew fat and healthy. C.It became someone’s pet. D.Zoo workers saved it. 85.How does human feeding affect bottle-nose dolphins? A.Dolphins become more friendly to humans. Today, however, many people spend more time sitting than sleeping. Researchers say that all the time spent at the desk, at the computer, or in front of the television is taking years off your life. Ancient humans spent their days hunting, working, and moving from place to place. So being active is what our bodies are designed for. As a rapid reaction (反应) to this discovery, many people have begun using standing desks. However, this really isn’t an answer to the question. A standing desk is a desk specially designed for use without a chair. There are many kinds of them, including normal work desks and special standing computer desks. Researchers say that simply standing instead of sitting won’t make your body much better. Standing only costs a few more calories than sitting and places more stress on your joints (关节) and back. The best way is to actually move around more. Take a walk around the office every half an hour. You can also walk over to your colleagues and talk to them instead of sending emails. These are just a few ways to start moving more while at work. Outside of work, of course, be sure to do plenty of exercise. 98.What did ancient humans do in the daytime? Hunt.         Work.          Sit.          Move. A. B. C. D. 99.What does the underlined word “them” in paragraph 3 refer to? A.Normal work desks. B.Standing computer desks. C.Standing desks. He freed his country from the control of the United States. Others hated him – there were 638 attempts to murder him. But no one would say that the bearded Castro, who always dressed in green, was not a fighter. In 2008, the 81-year-old president of Cuba (古巴) stepped down, saying that his poor health kept him from leading his country any longer. “Years of fighting against the US have led to it,” said one professor in Cuba. Castro was born in 1926, to a rich family of Cuban sugar planters. Although the young Castro was born into wealth, he himself became a fighter for the poor. At 13, he organized a strike because his father treated his workers badly. In middle school, he helped poor students get meat in their school meals. After college, Castro became a lawyer. He saw that Cuba was “a millionaire’s playground” of rich US businessmen. He made up his mind to help Cuba free itself from US control. In 1959 Castro led a revolution (革命) that brought him to power. Cuba became a socialist (社会主义的) country on the doorstep of the US. Although some tried to kill Castro and the US wouldn’t do business with Cuba – and even tried to invade (侵略) it – Cuba remained a peaceful country. In 2006, Castro became very ill. Although he had left office, this fighter refused to give up. He spent his time writing for newspapers. “I am not saying goodbye to you,” he wrote to Cubans. “But from now on I will be a soldier of ideas. You will be able to count on my words to help you.” On Nov 25, 2016, Castro died at the age of 90. 102.What can we learn from Paragraphs 1-3? During his life, London worked at many jobs. His broad life experiences would become the background for his writing. London loved to read. As a teenager, he spent many hours educating himself at the Oakland, California, public library. He attended college at the University of California at Berkeley, but he stayed for only six months. He thought Berkeley was “not lively enough” and wanted to do something more exciting. London wrote stories about working people and the hard times they had making a living. He knew their problems first hand. He worked as a sailor, rancher, factory employee, railroad hobo, and gold prospector, to name just a few of his many jobs. London grew up near the waterfront in Oakland. He loved the water. When he was fifteen years old, he bought a small sailboat called a sloop. Later he sailed to Japan on a schooner, which is a much larger sailing boat. Like many people of the time, London caught the Klondike Gold Rush Fever. In l897, he headed for Alaska. He didn’t find gold, but he discovered something even more valuable. He discovered that people enjoyed listening to the stories he made up with his vivid imagination. London entertained the miners with story after story. Later, using his experiences during the Gold Rush, he created many more colourful stories. London resolved to live a full, exciting life. Each day, he pushed himself. Once London decided to be a writer, nothing could stop him. His goal was to write at least one thousand words every day. He refused to stop even when he was sick. In eighteen years, the writer published fifty-one books and hundreds of articles. He was the best-selling and highest-paid author of his day. Many people also considered him to be the best writer. Now, it has also won global recognition (全球认可) as a shared cultural treasure of mankind. On November 29, 2022, Chinese traditional tea processing techniques (制作技艺) and their related (相关的) social practices were added to the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list. Since ancient times, Chinese people have been planting, picking, making and drinking tea. More importantly, China’s tea culture has nurtured (培养) social practices. It is a Chinese traditional custom (习俗) that a host should welcome visiting guests with boiled tea. A poem by Song poet Du Lei reads: I offer tea, not wine, to a guest on a cold night. When water boils on the stove, fire burns with flame bright. (寒夜客来茶当酒,竹炉汤沸火初红). Boiling tea is one of the oldest Chinese tea brewing methods (煮沏法), dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618—907). Tea leaves were boiled for a long time and sometimes they were cooked together with different kinds of herbs (草药) and fruits. During this process, people could enjoy a quiet time. Later in the Ming Dynasty (1368—1644), a faster and more convenient method became more popular-steeping (冲泡). However, the old method is now making a comeback among Chinese young people. On the app Xiaohongshu, or Little Red Book, there are over 40, 000 posts on the topic of “stove-boiled” tea (围炉煮茶). They lightly roast (烤) tea leaves before boiling them in a teapot on a charcoal-filled (装满木炭的) stove. People sit around the stove in a natural setting and have snacks with their hot tea. Some also wear traditional hanfu as if it could take them back to those ancient times. Through “stove-boiled” tea, people can taste a slower, pastoral-like (田园式的) life and find their inner peace. As is written in one Xiaohongshu post, “it is very relaxing to drink hot tea, feel the fall breeze (微风), and chat with best friends.” 110.What does the underlined word “it” in Para. 1 refer to? A.Tea. B.China. C.Life. D.Firewood. 111.What does the writer want to tell us through Du Lei’s poem? A.It was very cold in winter. B.Tea was easier to boil than wine. C.Tea was less expensive than wine. D.It was a custom to welcome friends with tea. 112.When did steep tea become more popular? A.In the Tang Dynasty. B.In the Song Dynasty. C.In the Ming Dynasty. D.We don’t know about it. 113.What do people usually do before boiling tea in a teapot on a stove? A.They lightly roast tea leaves. B.They have snacks with their hot tea. C.They sit away from the stove to keep safe. D.They wear traditional hanfu and take photos. 114.Why are so many people interested in “stove-boiled” tea? A.To feel much warmer in cold winter. Dawn sees saturated reds; The town’s heavy with blooms. (Translated by Xu Yuanchong) Note: steal 偷偷移动; moisten 使……润湿;  lane 小路; spread 扩散,传播;loom 逼近;bloom (常指供观赏的)花            This famous poem, with four couplets(诗句的“联”), was written by Du Fu(712—770, Tang Dynasty)when he was living and farming in Chengdu. His farming experience taught him to be thankful to nature. The very first word, “good”, shows the poet’s joy and love for the spring rain. The rain is good because it “knows” the time to come. Here the poet uses personification (拟人), as if the rain were smart enough to come in time for the farmers’ busy season. When the rain comes, it appears during the night without making any noise. Unlike the summer storms, the spring rain finishes its task without being known. In the third couplet, the poet describes a peaceful scene(景象)to us. In the night sky, the clouds look dark and heavy. It’s a sign that there will be enough rain during the night. The light from the riverboat makes the dark scene a bit livelier. Lastly, the poet starts to imagine. Tomorrow morning, he thinks, the city of Chengdu will become beautiful when all of the flowers bloom(盛开)after the rain. 115.The underlined phrase (划线的短语) “as if” most probably (有可能) means “________”. It is also the shortest day and longest night of the year. In the northern hemisphere (半球), the winter solstice is on 21 or 22 December. It is the middle of winter, so it is also called “Midwinter Day”. After this day, the nights will begin to get shorter and the days will begin to get longer. For thousands of years, people celebrated this day as the last festival before deep winter set in. Winter was always a dangerous time for our ancestors (祖先). They were always scared, because they might not have enough food to live through the winter. Midwinter Day is still an important festival in many northern countries today. In Scandinavia, people used to believe that the sun goddess flew through the sky and made the plants grow again. This is very important, as people in Scandinavia need the grass to grow so their reindeer will have food to eat. People cover the doors of their houses with butter for the sun goddess and her daughter to eat during their journey. In China, Japan and Korea, some families celebrate the day by eating rice balls (tangyuan), served in soup. The rice balls are a symbol of reunion (团圆). Families eat them because they wish to stay together and never be apart. In Japan and Korea, these rice balls often contain sweet bean paste. In Scotland, Midwinter Day is actually celebrated on 31 December and is called “Hogmanay”. Of course, it is also the celebration for New Year. The most important tradition is called “first-footing’. This is when you invite a neighbour to be the first person to enter your house in the first minute of the New Year. The neighbour should bring a gift of salt or sweet biscuits. You will have to give them a drink and something to eat in return. 119.When will the nights begin to get shorter in the northern hemisphere? A.In the middle of winter. B.Before the winter solstice. Finally, he thinks, the city of Chengdu will become beautiful when all the flowers bloom after the rain. 45.Which word is the most suitable for ▲ ? D.In a comic book. Passage 2 Did you ever dream of traveling all the way over the rainbow (彩虹)? With its wonderful climate (气候), the Yellow River estuary is an important stop for these birds on their way to the south. Dongying has taken great action to protect the wetlands and the wildlife in the area. The government is spending more money on water in the wetlands and helping make the air and land better. What’s more, the government has built a center for the area to record and study the information of the weather, water quality, land and the sea. Now people are working hard to protect the living place for birds like cranes, black-billed gulls, and Oriental white storks. The action leads to a growing number of wild animals staying in the city. Now, we can find 373 kinds of birds in the Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve, which is often called an “airport (机场) for avian species”. This year’s birdwatching season activity, which lasts for nearly two months, includes a photo competition, a birdwatching competition and meetings on bird protection. Now Dongying is not only a wonderful place for different kinds of birds, but also a popular attraction for a great number of travelers from all around the world. It is a good example to show that the world would be a better place if humans can care about and learn to live in peace with wildlife. 69.What is Dongying doing to make itself a good living area for birds? A.It’s studying the information of nature. B.It’s stopping people from watching birds. C.It’s inviting more tourists from around the world. D.It’s making the temperature warmer. 70.What does the underlined phrase “avian species” probably mean in this passage? A.foreigners B.tourists C.birds D.planes 71.What does the passage mainly tell us? A.Birdwatching—a new travel B.Different kinds of birds C.The importance of birdwatching D.Bird protection in Dongying Passage 2 Japan started putting nuclear-contaminated water (核污染水) into the ocean on Aug 24th, 2023. B.Into the river. C.In the huge box. D.In the bottle. 73.What might happen when the nuclear-contaminated water comes into the ocean? A.Human DNA might be changed. B.It might be bad for human health. C.We might have new kinds of seafood. D.It might bring good things for seawater. 74.What is the last paragraph mainly about? A.The foods from Japan are safe. B.Japan’s actions to sell their seafood. C.What countries are doing after Japan’s actions. D.Which countries have stopped eating fish from Japan. 十、热门主题:航空航天——人类飞天梦想的实现。 Passage 1 The six Chinese astronauts from the Shenzhou-l4 and Shenzhou-15 missions marked a historic moment on 30 November as they met inside the country’s Tiangong space station. It was the first time that six Chinese were in a space station at the same time and the first in-orbit (轨道内的) gathering of two Chinese crews (乘组). The Shenzhou-15 crew set out on the journey to the Tiangong station on the night of 29 November from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwestern China’s Gobi Desert. They rode a spaceship that was lifted into space by a Long March 2F rocket. At 7:33 a.m. (Beijing Time), the Shenzhou-14 astronauts opened the door of their “space home” to welcome the Shenzhou-15 astronauts. The six then took a group photo to record the great moment. According to the China Manned Space Agency, the two crews stayed together for about five days, and then the Shenzhou-14 crew, who had been in orbit for nearly half a year, returned to a landing site in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region (内蒙古自治区着陆点). The Shenzhou-15 astronauts will stay in orbit for six months to do a lot of work, such as carrying out spacewalks to mount equipment (安装设备) outside the station, and doing scientific experiments (实验). Following the arrival (到达) of the Shenzhou-15 spaceship, the Tiangong space station has grown much. Tiangong is expected to operate in orbit for about 10 years and will be open to foreign astronauts in the near future, according to space officials. It is the 10th crewed space station in the world and one of the two operating stations, along with the International Space Station. Pang Zhihao, a retired researcher at the China Academy of Space Technology said that building and running a manned space station is the most difficult work. “The arrival of the Shenzhou-15 crew marked the start of the Tiangong space station’s long-term regular operation.” he added. 75.What can we know from the first two paragraphs? A.The Shenzhou-14 crew left Tiangong space station. B.The Shenzhou-15 crew would be in orbit for five days. C.The Shenzhou-15 crew had been in orbit for six months. D.Two Shenzhou crews met in Tiangong space station. 76.Which of the following isn’t mentioned in the text? A.The selection process(选拔过程) of the Shenzhou-15 crew. B.The Tiangong space station’s future plans. C.The Shenzhou-15 astronauts’ work. D.The importance of the arrival of the Shenzhou-15 crew. 77.Which of the following statements is TRUE? A.Astronauts of Shenzou-14 lived in Tiangong for exactly six months. B.There are only two space stations in operation(在运行的) at present. C.Tiangong has been in orbit for nearly 10 years now. D.The Shenzhou-15 crew landed on Inner Mongolia autonomous region. 78.What can be inferred(推理) from the passage? A.Astronauts of Shenzou-14 returned to the earth on 30 November. B.More astronauts will be sent to Tiangong in the future. C.China is now working together with foreign astronauts. D.Astronauts of Shenzhou-15 spent more than 24 hours on the journey to the Tiangong Space Station. Passage 2 Scientists have always wanted to know more about the universe(宇宙). Years ago they knew many things about the moon. They knew how big it was and how far away from the earth. But they wanted to know more about it. They thought the best way was to send men to the moon. The moon is about 384, 000 kilometers away from the earth. A plane cannot fly to the moon because the air reaches only 240 kilometers away from the earth. But something can fly even when there is no air. That is a rocket(火箭). How does a rocket fly? There is gas(气体)in the rocket. When the gas is made very hot inside the rocket, it will rush out of the end of the rocket, so it can make the rocket fly up into the sky. Rockets can fly out into space. Rockets with men in them have been to the moon.Several rockets without men in them have flown to another planet(行星)much farther away than the moon. One day rockets may be able to go to any place in space. 79.Scientists have known ________ the moon is. A.how long B.how big C.how old D.how heavy 80.The earth is about 384, 000 kilometers away from the ________. A.moon B.universe C.sun D.space 81.A plane cannot fly to the moon because________. A.the sun B.another planet of the sun C.the satellites of the sun D.the stars 十一、经典主题:人与动植物的和谐相处。 Passage 1 In the wild, wolves with broken legs often face an unlucky fate, waiting to die. B.Dolphins start to know the dangers from humans. C.The dolphins fed by humans die more easily. D.More dolphins choose to find food by themselves. 86.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A.Everyone should take care of wild animals by themselves. B.The wild animals will never depend on themselves. C.We must feed wild animals at once when they are hungry. D.Humans may get sick if they feed sick wild animals. 87.What’s the purpose of this passage? A.It advises people not to feed wild animals by themselves. B.It shows that it is correct for people to feed wild animals. C.It introduces different wild animals in the Nature Reserve. D.It recommends some ways to protect wild animals. Passage 2 A winter morning, I was giving a talk on a square on Fifth Street. The wind was strong. There was an old man sitting in a chair in front of me. It seemed that he lost his legs. And I saw that when I told how Cookie, my dog, had saved my life, his eyes were filled with tears (泪水) and he nodded. When the talk was over, I walked towards him. He excitedly shook my hand. “I had a dog like your Cookie. The dog saved my life.” “Oh, what a good dog!” He nodded. “I lived in Greenwich Village and I had a dog that I raised and hunted with. When I took part in the Korean War (战争), I was hurt and lost the use of my legs. When I came back from the hospital, he was waiting. He spent the rest of his life by my side. And the shorter days make some people feel upset and lazy. They are having the so-called autumn sadness. In worse cases, however, some may suffer from seasonal affective disorder, or SAD. SAD is a type of depression (抑郁症). It mostly starts in the late autumn or early winter and goes away in the spring and summer. People who have SAD oversleep, overeat, and lose interest in activities they once liked. They also feel sad and even desperate (绝望的). The reason for SAD is not clear. Johns Hopkins University said that the lack of natural light during the autumn and winter months may disrupt (打乱) the body clock and the making of hormones (荷尔蒙). This disruption can lead to depression. People with SAD often need medical help. Light therapy (光疗法) is a common and useful way to treat it. Doctors advise patients to get as much sunlight as possible. Light therapy helps to balance (平衡) hormones and get a patient’s life back on track. Also, living a healthy life, like sleeping early, exercising often, and eating well, can help people deal with SAD.According to the National Institute of Mental Health of the US, in most cases (情况), SAD begins in young adulthood (青年时期). So, while studying inside the classroom, don’t forget to get some sunshine outside the classroom when you can! 93.When are people most likely to get SAD in our country? A.In March. B.In June. C.In July. D.In November. 94.What do people usually do when they have SAD? A.They feel full and stay up late at night. B.They eat more, sleep more and feel sad. C.They eat less and do more exercise. D.They sleep early and live a healthier life. 95.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about? A.The changes in the body in autumn and winter. B.The body clock of people with SAD. C.The hormones people need. D.The possible reason for SAD. 96.What does the underlined part mean in the passage? A.Make people feel younger. B.Make people’s lives more colorful. C.Help people get more sunlight. D.Help people become healthy again. 97.What’s the structure of the passage? A. B. C. D. Passage 2 Sitting for hours at a time is dangerous and can even lead to death. D.The best way to communicate with others is to send emails. 十三、著名人物类——学习的榜样。 Passage 1 For some people, Fidel Castro was a hero. Passage 2 Jack London, one of America’s major writers of adventure tales, was born in California in 1876. 1 refer to? B.To share ideas with others on the Internet. C.To spend more time with their best friends. D.To taste a slower life and find their inner peace. Passage 2 Happy Rain on a Spring Night— Du Fu Good rain knows its time right; It will fall when comes spring.         With wind it steals in night;           Mute, it moistens each thing.          Over wild lanes dark cloud spreads; In boat a lantern looms. D.The town’s heavy with blooms. 十五、中外文化的交流与碰撞——去粗取精,扩展视野。 Passage 1 During the winter solstice (冬至), the sun is at its lowest in the sky. C.During the winter solstice. D.After the winter solstice. 120.How do people in Scandinavia celebrate “Midwinter Day”? A.Eating rice balls and wishing to stay together. B.Asking the sun goddess to give grass to their reindeer to eat. C.Covering their doors with butter for the sun goddess and her daughter.
