I will never forget my trip to Bulgaria. I found everything interesting, like the restaurant I went to one day. After I finished my food there, a waiter politely asked if I enjoyed it. The food was delicious and the service was great. So I showed that I really loved it by nodding my head.
Strangely, the waiter did not smile but frowned(皱眉). It was like that he was not quite happy with my answer. I did not know what was wrong and felt very upset. A lady sitting next to me explained in English that in Bulgaria, nodding one’s head means “no” and shaking one’s head means “yes”. This is completely different from my country.
I thanked the kind lady and called the waiter over. ▲ This time, the waiter smiled and brought me some dessert.
Body language is different from country to country. It is important for us to learn about a country’s culture. Take a look at my experience and you will know why.
23.Why did the writer nod his head?
A.The waiter made him upset.
B.The food and service were great.
C.He didn’t know the waiter’s meaning.
24.How did the writer feel when he saw the expression on the waiter’s face?
A.Strange and upset. B.Upset and angry. C.Interested and strange.
25.Which of the following can be put in ▲ in Paragraph 3?
A.I pointed to my plate and shook my head.
B.I sang high praise for his service in English.
C.I said to him I had made a big mistake.

A.Never nod your head to the waiters.
B.It’s important for us to learn English well.
C.Pay attention to culture differences while traveling.

①There is one thing in the world that’s smaller than your fingernail. But without it, almost all of our electronic products might not work. It’s the microchip! It is one of the most important inventions in human history. Here is some information for you to learn it.
②What are microchips? Don’t be confused with potato chips. Microchips are very small electronic devices (设备) people use to keep and deal with information. A microchip is a set of connected electronic components (组件) that are imprinted (刻) on a very small chip. There are mainly two kinds of microchips: logic chips and memory chips.
③Logic chips are the “brains” of electronic devices — they deal with information to finish a task. Memory chips store information.
④When asked who invented the microchip, you may be surprised that two men invented almost the same thing at nearly the same time. But they didn’t even know what each other was working on. They were US engineers Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce. From 1958 to 1959, both of them were working on an answer to the same question: how to shrink the devices.
⑤In designing (设计) an electronic device likes a computer, it is always necessary to increase the number of components. However, as there are more components, the machines will be big and heavy. How to include these components in a smart way was the problem they wanted to solve. In the end, Kilby used germanium (锗) while Noyce used silicon (硅) to make their microchips, which can include more components in a smaller size.
⑥Where are microchips used? We can see them in many electronic products, from computers to cell phones, TVs, cameras, cars and airplanes. They are also used in GPS devices and ID cards. However, it’s not easy to make them. A chip may need to “travel” to many countries and areas before it becomes the final product.
27.According to the passage, ________ deal with information to finish a task.
A.fingernails B.components C.logic chips
28.Which statement is True according to the passage?
A.Two US engineers worked together to invent the microchip.
B.The microchip was invented to make the machines big and heavy.
C.Microchips are widely used but very difficult to make.
29.Which of the following can best describe the underlined word “shrink” in Paragraph 4?
A.to make something larger in size
B.to make something smaller in size
C.to increase the speed of something
30.The structure of the passage is ________.
A. B. C.

The Silk Road is known all over the world. 31 It went along the north of China, India, and Persia (波斯) and ended up in Eastern Europe near today’s the Mediterranean Sea (地中海).
It was called the Silk Road because one of the main products traded was silk cloth from China. Chinese silk was soft and beautiful. So people in Asia and Europe loved it very much. 32 Even the Romans called China the “land of silk”.
Besides silk, the Chinese also sold tea, salt, sugar and china. Most of the goods were expensive. This was because it was a long trip and traders didn’t have a lot of room for goods.
Traders traveled in large caravans (商队). 33 Most of the road was through dry land, so camels were popular animals for transport.
Although there was some trade between China and the rest of the world for some time, the silk trade developed quickly during the Han Dynasty (朝代). 34
35 It not only helped develop trade between different countries, but also helped make ideas, cultures and inventions spread across the world.

B.Do you know how the silk is produced?
C.The Chinese sold silk for thousands of years.
D.The Silk Road went from China to Eastern Europe.
E.Traveling in a big group like a caravan helped protect themselves.

第三节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Sloths are the slowest mammals (哺乳动物) on the earth. It takes a full minute for a slot h to move 6 feet (about 1.83 meters) across the ground. You probably couldn’t move that slowly if you tried! The sloth’s body is about 2 feet long. It has long legs, and curved claws (弯曲的爪子) that are 3 to 4 inches long. Their claws and their long legs help them climb trees and hang from tree branches (树枝). They spend almost their whole lives hanging from tree branches. The life of a sloth is not very exciting.
Sloths have a round head, small ears, a short tail, and sad- looking eyes set in a dark-colored “mask”. The shape of a sloth’s mouth makes it look like it is always smiling. It has extra bones in its neck that make it possible for it to turn its head almost all the way around. Sloths are home to other plants. Small plants grow on the sloth’s fur (毛皮), making the animals appear to be green. This green color makes it hard to see the sloths in the forest. Insects also live on the sloth’s fur. Maybe the sloths move so little that the small insects don’t even know they are animals.
Giant sloths which have the size of elephants once lived in many places on earth, including North America. Today, they can only be found in the tropical (热带的) forests of Central and South America. They eat leaves and berries. A sloth can stick its tongue out 12 inches. Maybe they developed this skill so they wouldn’t have to move to reach the leaves and berries around their resting place. However, many tropical forests are disappearing, along with the sloths that live there. It would be a sad thing if these fascinating little animals disappear.
56.How long does it take for a sloth to move 6 feet across the ground?
57.What can sloths do with their long legs and curved claws?
58.Can the sloths be easily seen in the forest?
59.Where does the Giant sloths live today?
60.What can people do to prevent sloths from disappearing?

How I’ve Changed!
How time flies! More than two years has quickly passed. I have changed a lot during these years.
On the one hand, I was thin and short in the past, but now I’m strong and tall. And with the help of my parents, I have learned to do some housework, such as cleaning my room, cooking and so on.
On the other hand, I have made many friends. We share our feelings with each other. I am not shy any longer and become more outgoing and confident. I didn’t use to be good at learning English, but my English teacher taught me how to memorize new words and told me to read as much as possible. Soon I made great progress and became interested in English.
I have changed so much! Thanks to the teachers and friends, I have learnt so much! Never will I forget the valuable middle school life!
