专项 6 阅读表达(任务型阅读)
Passage 1
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Helping Birds in a Changing World
Do you think birds are interesting? Do you like spending time outdoors? Do you care about
wildlife and the environment (环境)? If you answered yes to these questions, you might think about
becoming a bird biologist. Bird biologists are scientists who study birds.
Birds are interesting for many reasons. Birds have a lot in common, but at the same time, they
can be very different from one another. All birds have feathers, and most of them can fly. They are in
different sizes from hummingbirds smaller than your fist (拳头 ) to ostriches taller than the tallest
person. Ostriches can’t fly, but they can run up to 70 kilometers an hour!
Bird biologists work to understand more about birds, their habits, and their homes. Some kinds
of birds are dying off because they travel a long way during migration (迁徙 ). In North America,
birds travel to northern places in the summer and to more southern places for the winter. Bird
biologists are studying how and where birds get hurt along the way and trying to help them. But
that’s not all bird biologists do!
Beth Flint is a bird biologist in a wildlife refuge (保护区) near Hawaii. She tracks (追踪) all the
different kinds of seabirds in the refuge. She enjoys working outside, but she also works in an office.
She reads research studies about all the animals in the wildlife refuge, and makes plans to help
protect them, especially the birds. She talks to volunteers about the wildlife in the refuge, too.
To become a bird biologist, Dr. Flint studied many fields that all connect. She learned about
wildlife, forestry, biology, zoology (the study of animals), botany (the study of plants), and ecology
(生态学). Her interest in seabirds started when she was a student. She saw a photo of Atlantic Puffins
on a rock and wanted to learn more about them.
You never know where your interests may lead (引领 ) you. They may lead you to become a
scientist who studies wildlife!

India Works to Bring Cheetahs Back
Cheetahs
Cheetahs, the world’s fastest land animals, died out in India over 70 years ago. Now, a new
project(项目) is working to bring cheetahs back to India.
Asian cheetahs lived all over India a long time ago. But by 1952, they were said to be gone
forever. One of the main reasons was that people took a lot of cheetahs’ natural land. People also
killed them for their spotted skins(有斑点的皮) .
Since 1952, people have tried to get cheetahs to go back to India. They set eight cheetahs free

in Kuno National Park in September 2022. The cheetahs that were set free were not Asian cheetahs
but African cheetahs. They are a gift from Namibia’s government. But the number of African
cheetahs has also been going down. Now, there are only about 8,000 left. Some scientists believe that
bringing cheetahs back to India will help keep them from dying out.
Kuno is a 289-square-mile protected area. But there is no fence around it, so the cheetahs will
be free to walk into nearby forests as well. There will be tracking collars (追踪项圈) on all of the
cheetahs.
India plans to spend about $ 11 million on “Project Cheetah” over the next five years. The
project hopes to get about 40 cheetahs to live in Kuno. South Africa sent a second group of 12
cheetahs. They arrived in October.
But cheetahs will face some problems in Kuno National Park. And not everyone thinks that
“Project Cheetah” will work. Before the cheetah project was given the green light, India was
preparing Kuno as a place for Asian lions. Some scientists say Kuno is better for lions than cheetahs.
Cheetahs need open areas with hiding places, such as grasslands. But some scientists point out that
Kuno has more forests than grasslands. Valmik Thapar, who is famous for working to protect tigers,
says, “This area is full of leopards(美洲豹) and hyenas(鬣狗), which are two of the cheetah’s biggest
enemies(敌人 ).” He also worries that the cheetahs might not have enough food and that many of
them will die.
6.What are the world’s fastest land animals?
7.What happened in Kuno National Park in September 2022?
8.How many cheetahs does “Project Cheetah” hope to get to live in Kuno?
9.What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
10.What do you think of the idea of bringing cheetahs back to India? Why do you think so?

Passage 3
Can a cricket really tell you the temperature outside? Do fish know if it’s going to be a cold
winter? You’ve probably heard stories about animals that can predict (预测) the weather. Some of the
sayings, like, “if a cat sits with its back to the fire, hard weather can be expected” may sound silly or
unbelievable, but some are based on animals that seem to sense ( 感 觉 到 ) more about our
environment than we do.
Do animals tell us when a storm is coming? Birds react to the drop in air pressure (气压) before
a storm by flying low, and not flying at all an hour or so before the storm hits. Other animals behave
strangely before a storm too. Insects stay close to the ground and wolves howl (嚎叫) because their
ears can sense the pressure change.
Before a hurricane, sharks will run away from the path of the storm, although they hardly ever
leave their home waters. Seabirds also know they should fly inland.
While not really “weather,” earthquakes are also something that animals can predict. You may
have heard stories about animals and earthquakes: many are far more sensitive to earthquakes than

The teenage years are an important time for teenagers to grow in bodies and minds. The teenage
years are also a time when teenagers form habits that can last a lifetime. Here are some pieces of
healthy living advice for teenagers to follow.
Eat Your Fruits and Vegetables
Scientists suggest that teens should get at least five kinds of fruits and vegetables each day.
Fruits and vegetables provide(提供)important vitamins teens’ bodies need to grow well. Eating a
diet high in fruits and vegetables also helps keep teens full without providing more calories that can
lead to overweight.
Get Your Body Moving
Exercise does more than just burn calories. Taking part in sports helps keep the heart strong and
improves feelings. According to the Kids Health, a website presented by the Nemours Foundation,
teens should take part in at least 60 minutes of exercise every day.
Watch What You Drink
Teens’ bodies are almost two-thirds water, so drinking enough water is important. Teenagers
should drink 8 glasses of water every day, according to the British Nutrition Foundation. That

number grows for teens who take part in sports or are especially active. Other good drinks include
(包含)100 percent fruit juice and low-fat milk. Sugary drinks should be limited or excluded from
the meals completely as they provide more sugar and empty calories.
Get Enough Sleep
According to the scientists, teenagers need at least nine hours of sleep each night. Teens should
also have at least an hour of “quiet time” before bedtime. The goal is for all phones or computers to
be turned off for the night so that the brains and bodies can get relaxed. Quiet time activities may
include listening to soft music or reading a book.
15.How many kinds of fruits and vegetables does a teenager should eat each day?
16.Why should teenagers do exercise every day according to the passage?
17.What quiet activities can students do before bedtime?
18.How do you follow one of these healthy living suggestions in your daily life?

What if you could experience music in your body, rather than hear it through your ears? That’s
the idea behind Patrick Hanlon’s invention.
Patrick Hanlon is a sound expert. He invents a haptic suit (触觉反馈套装). It gives us a new
way to listen to music. The suit has a vest and two bands. It allows its user to experience touch
through force and vibration (震动).
This invention is produced by a technology company named Music: Not Impossible. Hanlon is a
co-founder of it. The goal of the company is to help everyone experience live music performances,
even if they cannot hear with their ears. People wearing the suit can enjoy a concert by feeling

vibrations which match different sounds in the music. Violins vibrate in the chest. Cello and bass
shake around the stomach. Horns are felt in the shoulders, and singings are felt in the arms.
Hanlon brought his invention to a recent concert in New York. Audiences had the chance to try
on the suits. “When you see it in people’s eyes, it’s magical,” Hanlon said. Jay Zimmerman, who lost
his hearing, was one of the audiences. He thinks the suits are an example of how new technology
offers more excitement. He hopes that soon these inventions will help deaf kids build sound
memories. Liza Matta also attended the concert and tried on the suit, though she is not hard of
hearing. “I love this idea and I really hope to enjoy live music at home in the future,” she said. “It
happens at so many different levels and creates a 3D-surround experience.”
The suits can be used with different types of music, from rock to disco by changing the vibration
points. Zimmerman is excited about the high-tech, but he knows there’s still a long way to go. He
says the goal is to be able to hear a soft violin and it will be so beautiful to his body and his mind that
he would cry. That is also a big dream for Hanlon and his team.
19.What does Patrick Hanlon invent?
20.How can people enjoy a concert with the help of the invention?
21.Where does Liza Matta hope to enjoy live music in the future?
22.What do you think of this invention? Why do you think so? (Give at least 2 reasons.)

just talked to myself as if I were in a conversation,” he said.
Lai also thought of ways to improve his skills. He used English to describe everything he saw.

“May we all be blessed with longevity. Though miles apart, we are still able to share the beauty
of the moon together,” (但愿人长久,千里共蝉娟) wrote Su Shi, a poet during the Song Dynasty, in
his well-known poem to his younger brother Su Zhe.
The moon is at its brightest on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar (阴历). On
this day, people celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.
In ancient China, that day was a harvest (收获) festival because crops were harvested during that
period.
Just like Thanksgiving in Western countries, families also try to get together for the Mid-Autumn
Festival in China. Usually, no matter how far away or how busy they are, people will try to return
home for the celebration.

English Weather
People always talk about the weather in England and this is not surprising. It changes from
minute to minute, so it’s always interesting. Someone once wisely remarked (评论 ) that other
countries have a climate (气候), but England just has weather! Ann was amused by (被……逗乐了)
all this talk at first, but she has got used to it now.
Last week, Ann really understood why everyone is so concerned (关注) about the weather: you
can never be certain what’s going to happen. Though it was spring, there was a very heavy snowfall.
As usual, no one expected it. The pipes (管子) in many houses were frozen (冻); trains failed to run;
cars went shrunk (减少); there were many accidents on the roads; lots of people slipped (滑) on the
icy pavements (人行道 ) and got hurt; the weather forecast was very bad. Everyone complained
gloomily (沮丧地), “What awful weather we’re having! Haven’t seen anything like it!” and so on.
And then, suddenly, the sun came out, the snow melted (融化) and it was spring again.
“Typical (典型的)! Just typical!” Gretel remarked.
“From the way you talk about the weather, Ann” Mr. Clark said, “anyone would think you were
English.”

pleasant cool autumn and long chilly winter. The hottest month is July and the coldest is January.
September and October with the pleasant and cool weather are thought to be the best time to visit this

dry but the temperature changes sharply between the day and the night. Dress warmly when going
out at night. Also guard (保护) yourselves against sandstorms with sunglasses.
Summer
Summer (from early June to mid-September) is very hot with much rain. This calls for thin
clothes as the temperature in July and August ranges between 30℃ and 40℃. Short and heavy
rainstorms may come suddenly in the afternoon on sunny days.
Autumn
The short but beautiful autumn (from mid-September to the end of October) is travellers’
favourite. Autumn in this city enjoys mild temperature and a lot of sunshine. Long-sleeved shirts and
thin-coats are necessary for autumn. From late October the temperature comes down sharply, so
warm clothing is a must.
Winter
This city has a cold, dry and long winter from early November to the next March. The chilly

The train made a lot of noise as it came to a stop at the station. Martha waited for a while until
her father held her hand. They walked onto the train together. Her mother and brother walked behind
them.
This was the first train ride for Martha and her brother Brian. They would take the train to visit

They walked to the middle of the train. They found some seats and sat down. A few minutes later,
the train began to move.
Martha and Brian felt a little nervous, but their parents said they would enjoy the ride. Dad said

children face to face instead of turning around.”
When the children heard their parents’ words, they felt relaxed.
“The train isn’t as noisy as I thought it would be,” said Martha, “and I can stand up and walk

There was a little boy called Tony. He didn’t like school, but he loved music lessons every
Tuesday. Tony’s family was poor, and he was the eldest of the six children, so he had to leave school
and find a job at thirteen. But neither the factory nor the shop wanted Tony.
Tony and his mother took a bus from town to a farm. They enjoyed the countryside with green
fields and flowers. Mr Wood, the farmer, gave Tony a job. Though it was hard work, Tony liked
being a farm boy. Pip and John, who visited during the summer holiday, also loved farming.
One day, while cleaning a building for Mr Wood’s new car, Tony found an old piano. He never
learned how to play the piano, but his fingers began to move up and down the keys naturally. Since
Mr Wood didn’t want the piano any more, Tony was so happy that he tried to find a new home for it.
The next day, Tony found an open school and decided to put the piano there for a while. Tony
played the piano every evening and learned to read music (乐谱) with Linda, Mr wood’s daughter.

talented and offered to teach him for free. Mr and Mrs Woods agreed and said they would help Tony
