From my understanding, the quote reminds medical workers to be equipped not only with professional skills, but also with a merciful heart. The primary goal of medical workers should be the interest of the sick rather than financial benefits. Furthermore, they should continue to perfect their skills and handle every case professionally. quote /kwəʊt/ ( also quota·tion ) 引语;引文;语录 mer·ci·ful  /ˈmɜːsɪfl/ 宽大的;仁慈的;慈悲的 per·fect /pəˈfekt/使完善;使完美;使完备 pro·fes·sion·al·ly /prəˈfeʃənəli/ 娴熟地;老练地;内行地;在工作上;在职业上 Medical professionals work hard to keep us healthy. Look at the pictures below and discuss the following questions in pairs. What jobs are shown in the pictures? Write the letters in the boxes above. b. A dentist specializes in the care of people’s teeth. a. A surgeon performs operations. per·form  /pəˈfɔːm/ 做;履行;执行,=carry out 2. Would you like to be a medical professional? Why or why not? Option 1 Yes, I would like to be a medical professional. Medical professionals often have very specialized career fields, such as being a dentist, surgeon or chemist. These fields help people live healthy lives by curing their diseases and even saving them from death. For this reason, I believe that as a medical professional, I could contribute to society in an important way. spe·cial·ized /ˈspeʃəlaɪzd/ 专用的;专业的;专门的 Option 2 No, I would not want to be a medical professional. Working in that field is very challenging and requires someone who could cope with the constant pressure of worrying about whether they have made the correct decisions. Deciding suitable treatments may not always deliver the results that either the patient or the doctor has hoped for. So, even though I know that being a medical professional is respectable, I don’t think I could handle the pressure. cope (with sth) /kəʊp/ (成功地)对付,处理 deliver/dɪˈlɪvə/实现; 履行;履行诺言;不负所望;兑现 re·spect·able /rɪˈspektəbl/ 体面的;得体的;值得尊敬的 3. Can you describe an experience you had with a medical professional? What was it like? The first time I went to see a dentist, I was very scared. As I sat in the big chair under the bright lights, I was sure the dentist would do something to me that really hurt. When she asked me to open my mouth, I said no! Eventually, she managed to look at my teeth and check them. They weren’t perfect, but I didn’t need to have any work done on them. Phew! phew/fjuː/ 哦(表示热、累或宽慰) $$
