The world’s first large language model (LLM) for moon study is coming! It makes studying the moon much faster and easier than before.
The new tool came out in August at the China International Big Data Industry Expo in Guiyang, Guizhou. The Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Geochemistry (中国科学院地球化学研究所) made it.
The LLM is the “smart brain” for the digital moon, which has the most moon information in one place in the world, said Xinhua.
On the moon, there are more than 1 million big craters (陨石坑) and lots of small ones. It’s really hard for scientists to find all these holes by themselves. The LLM can tell and remember different craters by size, depth (深度) and shape.
According to Liu Jianzhong, a researcher at the Institute of Geochemistry, the model is correct more than 80 percent of the time.
Working things out faster helps scientists learn more quickly and get ready for harder missions (任务) in the future. Using big AI models for moon science can also teach researchers how to explore other planets better.
“The LLM is like a child with a very high IQ. We train and teach the child professional (专业的) things,” Liu told Xinhua. “We will keep it growing and helping us solve more scientific problems.”
14.In which way does the LLM research the moon for scientists?
A.It studies the moon much faster and more easily than before.
B.It can tell and remember different craters by different areas.
C.It came out in August in Guiyang, Guizhou.
D.It is correct more than 80 percent of the time.
15.What will the researchers possibly do with the help of LLM?
A.Inventing smart brains. B.Exploring other planets.
C.Getting ready for missions. D.Finding all these holes.
16.Which is the simple but vivid metaphor (生动的比喻) to the LLM?
A.The world’s first LLM for moon study is coming!
B.The LLM is the “smart brain” for the digital moon.
C.It is trained and taught professional things.
D.The LLM is like a child with a very high IQ.
17.What can be the best title of the text?
A.Using AI models for science B.Keeping LLM growing
C.Solving scientific problems D.Looking into the Moon
C
So far, China has successfully sent a large number of satellites (卫星) and spaceships into space. Space scientists have been greatly inspired (赋予灵感) by the old stories and ancient famous people when giving them names.
Since thousands of years ago, Chinese people have dreamed of going to the moon. Chang’e Flies to the Moon is one of the most popular stories. As you can see, China’s first man- made satellite to circle around the moon was named Chang’e I. More interestingly, the moon rover (巡视器) was named after the Jade Rabbit, who is the partner of Chang’e in the story. These old stories carry people’s best wishes and dreams. With the development of science and technology, our scientists have made them come true.
Kua Fu Runs After the Sun is another story to show how much ancient Chinese people wanted to know about the unknown world. Now, Kua Fu is going with the scientists to, “visit” the sun, because we have a space project called KuaFu Mission.
Besides the ancient stories, space scientists also get ideas from ancient famous people. For example, Mozi, an ancient scientist, discovered that light travels in a straight line over 2,000 years ago. His discovery made space study take a big step at that time. So, China’s first quantum (量子) science satellite was named Mozi, making China the first country in the world to achieve quantum communication between satellites and the ground.
From such simple things as giving names to the satellites, we can see how great our traditional culture is and what influence it has on our modern science and technology.
18.In China, space scientists get ideas from ________ when naming satellites.

D
In the minds of the Chinese, the moon is connected with gentleness and brightness, expressing their best wishes. In traditional Chinese culture, the moon carries people’s deep feelings for their home and loved ones.
On August 15 of the lunar calendar each year, the moon is full and bright and it’s time to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. In ancient times, from royal to common family, it was an important custom to admire the full moon during the festival. The family always spent time together. Adults usually enjoyed delicious mooncakes with a cup of hot tea, while children ran around with bright lanterns.
After nightfall, they went out for a walk under the moonlight, looking up at the full moon and thinking of their loved ones away from home. And those who couldn’t get back home missed their hometowns and family the most that night. A line from a poem “The moon at the home village is the brightest” expresses such feelings.
▲ From the story of Chang’e to the wonderful paintings of Dunhuang Flying Apsaras, they express Chinese ancestors’ wish to explore outer space. Many ancient Chinese poets also showed their love for the moon through wonderful words. Li Bai, the great poet of the Tang Dynasty, wrote hundreds of poems about the moon during his lifetime.
The Chinese exploring moon project (探月工程), named after Chang’e, fully expresses this pursuit (追求) of the moon of the Chinese in modern times, which has caught the eye of the world. The successful launch of Chang’e 1 made a long-held dream of the Chinese people come true. This year, China will push forward the fourth phase (阶段) of this project, including Chang’e 6, Chang’e 7 and Chang’e 8. For sure, the exploration of the moon will continue.

30 In their legends, the full moon is somewhat scary to people. The most well-known legend is the werewolf (狼人). A werewolf usually looks like a human, but changes into a wolf-like creature (生物) when there is a full moon. Also, if someone is very excited or even crazy about something, others may joke, “It must be a full moon.”

On Monday, Mrs. Bunch told her students that they would take a test about the main countries and capitals on Friday. Students should be able to fill in the countries’ names on a world map and know each country’s capital. Kevin and Matt both wanted to do well on the test, but they studied for the test in different ways.
Kevin waited until Thursday evening to begin studying. He thought he would be able to remember it better on Friday in this way. On Thursday evening, Kevin took his study notes into the living room so he could watch TV while studying. He read the list of the countries and capitals over and over again. Then he covered up the capitals and tried to remember what they were as he read each country’s name. When he felt he knew most of the capitals, he then took out his map and began studying where all the countries were. Since Kevin kept spending time on TV shows, he did not finish his study until very late.
Matt, on the other hand, worked in a different way. On Monday evening, he made a set of cards. On one side of the card, he wrote the name of the country and on the other side, he wrote the country’s capital. There was one card for each country. He then made several copies of the map of the world with the names of the countries erased (擦掉). Now he could practise writing the names. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Matt spent an hour after supper in his room studying his cards and practicing filling in his maps. On his way to school each day, Matt took his cards with him on the bus and practiced naming the capitals. He went to bed earlier on Thursday evening.
When the boys arrived at school on Friday, they joined their classmates and prepared to take the big test. As Mrs. Bunch handed out the test, they both began to work very hard.
54.What would the students be tested about on Friday?

unless除非;because因为;though尽管;while当……时候。空后“he was going to go camping with his family and he invited his friend Freddie.”
根据“ I’ve never seen so many stars before”可知,看到星星他很惊讶,故选C。
根据“because there are many tall buildings and stars are covered by light”可知,星星被遮住了,所以使得看星星变得更难了,故选D。
根据“The sun doesn’t really go anywhere”可知,此处是询问太阳去哪儿了,故选B。
根据“ It is actually the Earth that moves.”和“ When where we are on Earth faces the sun, it is day. When where we are on Earth spins to face away from the sun, it’s night”可知,应是地球一直在转,故选C。
look like看起来像;pick up捡起;cut in插入;throw away扔掉。 根据“it...a banana tonight”可知,是说月亮看起来像香蕉,故选A。
around围绕;over在……上方;with和……一起;among在…… 根据“The moon travels ...the earth”及常识可知,应是月亮绕着地球转,故选A。
根据“only see the area of the moon that the sun is... on”可知,看到的是太阳照在月亮上的光,故选D。
上文讲述了Emilio的妈妈像他们介绍了一些天文知识,结合“ I want to learn from her and discover more space...”
根据“discover more space...”

After nightfall, they went out for a walk under the moonlight, looking up at the full moon and thinking of their loved ones away from home.
