One week after I started working in Beijing, I decided to visit a place of interest called the Summer Palace. Before setting off, I researched it on the Internet. The Summer Palace is composed mostly of a lake, but it’s surrounded by beautiful greenery and a walkway that circles the lake. It is recommended that you give the Summer Palace about three hours. If you try to walk around it, it could take five or six hours. With that knowledge of it, I set off.
The highlight of the tour had to be the view from the Tower of Buddhist Incense. It sits on the top of a large hill overlooking the lake and is worth a climb. It was built as a place to worship the Buddha. And in the Summer Palace, unlike in most of other places, photography isn’t allowed in most of the buildings. Pictures of most of the Buddhas and the other artifacts are off⁃limits for photographers.
Another highlight was seeing the stage created for the Dowager Empress where she watched operas and other theater items. There are box seats that surround the stage and it was the largest stage created in Imperial China. You could almost imagine royalty reviewing the actors from the boxes and the stage.
I do recommend taking a boat ride if you go, which takes you from one side of the lake to the other side where you can see another set of buildings. And it is fun. You can also rent an electric boat or paddleboat if you want. But since it was just me, I went aboard one of the biggest boats with other people.
I spent another four hours wandering around the Summer Palace. But I didn’t see all of it because it was getting dark. How I wish I could visit it again.

C
It’s a typical day at school. You’re playing soccer with your friends. One of them kicks you the ball and you run for it. You trip. You fly through the air. You land—hard, right on your face! The next moment, you’re in the nurse’s office. Your bleeding nose is being checked by laser sensors (激光传感器) that coming out of a...robot? Has the nurse’s office been taken over by sci-fi aliens (外星人) from outer space?
No. You’ve just been pushed forward 15 years into the future. And it’s a future that Susan Epstein, a computer science professor who teaches artificial intelligence, is really excited to think about. “I am crazy about this kind of thing! You could go up to the robot, put your nose in, and the machine would decide whether you needed to be treated, and how.”
Aside from being cool, an AI nurse has other advantages. It doesn’t need to take vacations. It doesn’t need to get paid a salary. And it might figure out what’s wrong with your nose faster than a human would. There are all kinds of ways that AI could be used to help make us healthier and researchers are studying how to use AI to diagnose (诊断) lung disease, cancer, and more.
Our robot nurse isn’t meant to completely take the place of humans, though. “It would work with real, live nurses and doctors,” says Epstein, “there are things humans are good at, like building trust among members of our own species or comforting someone who’s hurt or sick. A big part of medicine is the relationship between a doctor and a patient.”
Epstein points out that AI programs will never be perfect—no matter how much we might want them to be. But if AI can diagnose a deadly disease more precisely even 10 percent of the time, think of how many lives it could save. “Besides”, says Epstein, “I think there are probably patients who might prefer to have a machine for a doctor!” Would you?
8. What’s the function of para 1?
A. To introduce a scientific study.
B. To lead to the topic of the text.
C. To describe an experience of the writer.
D. To give an example to support an argument.
9. What can be inferred from Epstein’s words in para 4?
A. Humans are better at treating patients than AI doctors.
B. AI doctors alone can cure patients of most of the diseases.
C. Patients’ trust in doctors may affect their treatments positively.
D. Patients may receive as much comfort from AI doctors as from humans.
10. What is true about AI doctors and nurses according to the text?
A. They are better at trust-building.
B. They will take over humans.
C. Their biggest strength is being cool.
D. They are life-saving if properly used.
11. What’s Epstein’s attitude towards AI doctors and nurses!
A. Negative. B. Favorable. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear.
D
The Wuyishan National Park, known for its amazing landscapes and respected tea industry, has taken significant steps to safeguard its traditional tea heritage and industry, while using technological advances to raise the incomes of local people.
Home to one of China’s largest and most diverse subtropical forests, Wuyi Mountain is the only place in the country where Wuyi rock tea is grown. In the 18th century, Wuyi rock tea was the most popular tea in Europe. However, illegal land reclamation (开垦) of tea mountains and the destruction of plant resources damaged the environment in the area around Wuyi Mountain.
Then the Wuyishan National Park was established in 2021, as one of the first bat ch of China’s national parks. The park authorities have cooperated with tea experts to make up a strategy for the improvement of the Wuyi Mountain tea industry and biodiversity.
“In order to better protect the forest, we must respect and preserve the existing areas for the locals to plant and live on, but further expansion has been restricted.” said Huang Zhimin, a researcher with the park’s management bureau.
Eco-friendly plantations that use the “tea forest” and “tea grass” models have been introduced to the park. Moreover the authorities provide farmers with free seedlings (幼苗) of precious broad-leaved trees like nanmu. This practice not only protects local biodiversity, but also improves the quality of the tea.
The Wuyishan National Park’s authorities have been working with tea experts to improve production and quality through the use of innovative technological methods. A local farmer said: “In the past, we lacked knowledge of scientific tea field management, which resulted in teas of average quality that were only suitable for basic daily consumption. Now, with the help of scientific approaches, the quality of our teas has risen significantly.”
12. What was the Wuyishan National Park intended for?
A. To attract more tourists to come here.
B. To examine innovative technological methods.
C. To arouse the awareness of protecting the biodiversity.
D. To promote the eco - environment and tea quality.
13 What does the underlined phrase in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Asking the authorities for help.
B. Decreasing land reclamation of tea mountains.
C. Using eco-friendly plantations.
D. Growing all the broad-leaved trees.
14. What can be inferred according to the local farmer?
A. They benefit a lot from the tourism of the national park.
B. The quality of their teas are much better than before.
C. The scientific approaches make no difference to them.
D. Their knowledge of tea field management is the best.
15. Where is the text most probably taken from?
A. A novel. B. A medical book.
C. A tourist brochure. D. A magazine.

I faced a tight budget when I was nine. On November Ist, I used up most of the money I saved. With a small amount of pocket money left before Christmas I didn’t have enough to buy presents for the family.
I was seriously considering going to my dad and asking for an advance on the next year’s pocket money, so I could at least buy gifts for my family members. But then, one evening, I was sitting in my room reading advertisements in the back of a magazine. Several greeting-card companies were telling us how people could make money by selling their cards and stationery (文具). Normally, I would have passed right over the ads, but this time my situation was so difficult that I felt I had nothing to lose.
The ad that attracted me most was one by a well-known greeting-card company in my nation, whose products were of high quality. With my parents’ help, I contacted the company, although they preferred adults or older kids to advertise their products. After my sincere request, they agreed to give me, a nine-year-old boy, a chance.
My sales materials arrived within the week. I had expected something small and neat, but the package looked like a dinosaur’s shoebox it was close to three feet long and nearly a foot wide, full of stuff. There was a thick binder (活页夹) containing a complete selection of the cards and some writing paper, which I would be selling for around $3 per box.
Although my parents supported my try to make money by myself, they had little confidence in my success; after all, instead of an outgoing kid, I was somewhat shy. However, I was determined to have a try to challenge myself.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

C Their biggest strength is being cool.
D. They are life-saving if properly used.
11. What’s Epstein’s attitude towards AI doctors and nurses!
A. Negative. B. Favorable. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear.

Moreover, the authorities provide farmers with free seedlings (幼苗) of precious broad-leaved trees like nanmu.

47. 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

【答案】 Wasting no time, I set off and knocked on doors in my neighborhood. Gathering my courage, I introduced myself as the young representative of the well-known greeting-card company. The initial responses were mixed — some were hesitant, while others were fascinated by the idea of a child engaged in such a venture. As I showcased the high-quality cards and shared the story behind each design, the doubt began to fade away, replaced by genuine interest. Surprisingly, my shy character transformed into enthusiasm, and I found myself engaging in conversations that extended beyond the purpose of sales.
Eventually, I earned over $20, a large sum of money for a 9-year-old kid in 1954. The community’s response exceeded my expectations, and the support I received went beyond mere financial transactions. Neighbors were not just buying cards; they were encouraging a young entrepreneur. This unexpected journey into sales not only alleviated my financial concerns for Christmas but also instilled a sense of accomplishment and self-confidence. It broadened my horizons and laid the foundation for a newfound belief in the possibilities that determination and courage could unfold, regardless of age.
