Dear Sarah,
Thank you for sharing your problem with us. It’s common that your mother worries about your studies. Here are my suggestions.
Why not have a conversation with your mother? You can point out the benefits of having a smartphone, like staying connected with friends for school projects or using some helpful apps. You’d better make a deal with your mother, setting some rules together, such as limiting screen time during weekdays. I advise you to show your responsibility by promising to keep good grades.
Following these suggestions, I firmly believe you can find a balance that satisfies both your needs and your mother’s concerns. (96词)

Dear Andy,
Thank you for sharing your problem with us. It’s normal to feel lonely in a large class or group sometimes. Here is my advice.
First of all, it’s a good idea to start conversations or ask questions in class to communicate with your teachers and classmates. How about joining clubs or activities that interest you? This is a great way to meet people who have the same hobbies as you and form deeper connections. Besides, they might not realize how you feel, so don’t be afraid to express your feelings to your friends. Lastly, I suggest you should focus on improving yourself. When you feel confident and make progress, others will naturally get closer to you.
In a word, be active and patient. It takes time to build good relationships. (122词)

What would you like for lunch? Maybe, a battery (电池)? It sounds unusual, but scientists have already made this a reality with the development of edible electronics(可食用的电子产品) .
Robofood, a program led by Dario Floreano from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, Switzerland, has been the forerunner. Together with scientists from Wageningen University, the Netherlands, it has made a new drone(无人机). Half of the parts inside can be eaten! The program plans to create edible robots and robot-like foods by mixing food science and robots in a new way.
According to the scientists, the wings of the drone were made from rice cakes glued together using oil and chocolate. This drone can find missing people or animals in difficult or dangerous situations and carry important food or medicine to them. Parts of the drone can be eaten since they meet food safety standards set up by the United Nations.
However, the main challenge is finding harder edible materials(材料) for the drone’s wings to prepare for bad weather and high temperatures—of course, the chocolate may melt(融化)easily.
Robofood also helps check on stomach sickness. People eat it to check the conditions inside. The body can easily digest(消化) it, reducing the risk of leaving any remains inside the body.
The invention of Robofood also helps with environmental protection. The world’s first fully edible batteries can help solve the growing problem of throwing away used batteries. The battery’s positive and negative ends are made of vitamin B2 and another natural element that can be found in many fruits including apples. So the new battery can be more friendly for nature.
23. According to the article, what do you know about the new drone?
A. The drone can only fly in windy weather.
B. All parts of the drone are very strong and edible.
C. The wings of the drone are made of cakes and fruits.
D. The drone can send food and medicine to people in danger.
24. What does “remains” in Paragraph 5 refer to(指代)?
A. Some waste materials from the body.
B. The world’s first fully edible batteries.
C. Parts of the Robofood that the body doesn’t digest.
D. Parts of the medicine used to treat stomach sickness.
25. How does the Robofood program help to protect the environment?
A. By developing drones that can be partly eaten.
B. By inventing the world’s first fully edible batteries.
C. By creating all kinds of foods that look like robots.
D. By making stomach medicine that can be easily digested.
26. What is the best title for the article?
A. The Importance of World Food Safety B. Solving the Problem of Used Batteries
C. Robofood: Edible Electronics and Robots D.The Future of Drones in Difficult Situations

Back in New York, I am fighting fires as the assistant captain(副队长) of a volunteer fire company.
I still remember my first fire. I was the second volunteer on the scene, so there was a pretty good chance I was going to get in. When I found the captain, he was having a very engaging conversation with the homeowner(房主), who was surely having one of the worst days of her life. At midnight, she was standing outside in the pouring rain, under an umbrella, barefoot, while her house was in flames(在燃烧中).
The other volunteer, who had arrived just before me, was asked to go inside and save the homeowner’s dog. The dog! I was stunned with jealousy. For the rest of his life, he could tell people that he went into a burning building to save a living creature(动物)! Just because he arrived five seconds earlier than me. Well, I was next. The captain then waved me over. He said, “Bezos, I need you to go upstairs past the fire, and get this woman a pair of shoes.” So, not exactly what I was hoping for, but off I went - up the stairs, down the hall, past the “real” firefighters, who were pretty much done putting out the fire at this point, into the master bedroom to get a pair of shoes.
Now I know what you’re thinking, but I’m no hero. I carried the shoes downstairs where I met the other volunteer with the precious dog. We took our treasures outside to the homeowner, where, not surprisingly, his received much more attention than mine.
A few weeks later, the company received a letter from the homeowner thanking us for saving her home. The act of kindness she noted above all others was that someone had even gotten her a pair of shoes.
So don’t wait until you make your first million to make a difference in somebody’s life. If you have something to give, give it now. ▲ , but every day gives us an chance to influence(影响) one. So get in the game. Save the shoes.
Mark Bezos, From TED

29. What does the word “stunned” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?

Zheng Qinwen, 21, won China’s first Olympic gold in the tennis
singles (单打) at the Paris Olympics on Aug 3rd.
“Nothing can describe my feeling right now, it’s unreal. I’ve
always been hoping to get a medal for China. Finally, I made it,”
Zheng said after her win.
From 2020 to 2024, Zheng’s world ranking (排名) jumped from
over 600 to No 7. Years of competition taught her to play with patience (耐心) and control her
energy in matches. Her performance has won her the title of “Queen Wen” among fans.
“I love my fans for giving me this title, honestly, because it fits my character well. You need
to show yourself as queen of the court, because you need this energy, this power to show that you

Playing for China at the Olympics gave Zheng power. She made her way to success after
getting through tiring matches that went on for three hours.
“What I can be sure (of) is that I’m going to fight until the last moment, because I’m not only
playing for myself. I’m playing for my country,” Zheng told China Daily.
This great success is just the start of a new journey for Zheng. Just a few days after her
Olympic victory, she took part in the Cincinnati Open but lost to Russian player Anastasia
Pavlyuchenkova in a third-round match.

C. Because she wanted to pay more attention to future competitions.
D. Because she thought that she would not be able to win a gold medal again.

What would you like for lunch? Maybe, a battery (电池 )? It
sounds unusual, but scientists have already made this a reality with
the development of edible electronics(可食用的电子产品) .
Robofood, a program led by Dario Floreano from the Swiss
Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, Switzerland, has been the
forerunner. Together with scientists from Wageningen University, the Netherlands, it has made a
九年级英语试卷 第 4 页 (共 8 页)
new drone(无人机 ). Half of the parts inside can be eaten! The program plans to create edible
robots and robot-like foods by mixing food science and robots in a new way.
According to the scientists, the wings of the drone were made from rice cakes glued together
using oil and chocolate. This drone can find missing people or animals in difficult or dangerous
situations and carry important food or medicine to them. Parts of the drone can be eaten since they
meet food safety standards set up by the United Nations.
However, the main challenge is finding harder edible materials(材料) for the drone’s wings
to prepare for bad weather and high temperatures—of course, the chocolate may melt(融化)easily.
Robofood also helps check on stomach sickness. People eat it to check the conditions inside.
The body can easily digest(消化) it, reducing the risk of leaving any remains inside the body.
The invention of Robofood also helps with environmental protection. The world’s first fully
edible batteries can help solve the growing problem of throwing away used batteries. The battery’s
positive and negative ends are made of vitamin B2 and another natural element that can be found
in many fruits including apples.

Back in New York, I am fighting fires as the assistant captain(副队
长) of a volunteer fire company.
I still remember my first fire. I was the second volunteer on the
scene, so there was a pretty good chance I was going to get in. When I
found the captain, he was having a very engaging conversation with the
homeowner(房主), who was surely having one of the worst days of her
life. At midnight, she was standing outside in the pouring rain, under an
umbrella, barefoot, while her house was in flames(在燃烧中).
The other volunteer, who had arrived just before me, was asked to go inside and save the
homeowner’s dog. The dog! I was stunned with jealousy. For the rest of his life, he could tell
people that he went into a burning building to save a living creature(动物)! Just because he arrived

five seconds earlier than me. Well, I was next. The captain then waved me over. He said, “Bezos, I
need you to go upstairs past the fire, and get this woman a pair of shoes.” So, not exactly what I
was hoping for, but off I went - up the stairs, down the hall, past the “real” firefighters, who were
pretty much done putting out the fire at this point, into the master bedroom to get a pair of shoes.
Now I know what you’re thinking, but I’m no hero. I carried the shoes downstairs where I
met the other volunteer with the precious dog. We took our treasures outside to the homeowner,
where, not surprisingly, his received much more attention than mine.
A few weeks later, the company received a letter from the homeowner thanking us for saving
her home. The act of kindness she noted above all others was that someone had even gotten her a
pair of shoes.
So don’t wait until you make your first million to make a difference in somebody’s life. If
you have something to give, give it now. ▲ , but every day gives us an chance to
influence(影响) one. So get in the game. Save the shoes.
