Last Sunday, my whole family went to the amusement park near our town, as we planned the day before, on my brother David's 13th birthday. David was two years older than I.
The weather was perfect and everyone was happy. The park was not too crowded. “Fiona,” said my brother,“do you want to go on that ride with me?”“Of course,” I said. The ride was brand new. I saw commercials (广告) for this huge roller coaster (过山车) on television. I was so excited to ride it. As we got in line, we talked excitedly about what we might experience. We decided that we would both try to keep our hands in the air the whole time. We believed that would make it even more enjoyable. I was so busy talking to my brother that I missed the most important sign — Empty your pockets (腾空口袋) before going on the ride. Something bad happened!
The ride started. It was a really fast roller coaster! Before I knew it, we were upside down. I felt my phone slipping (滑落) from my pocket. My hands were in the air, just as we had promised, and I didn't catch my phone in time. It hit me on the head, fell down to the ground and broke. My parents said I wouldn't have a new phone until I had enough money to pay for it. I need to be more careful. Two years ago what my 10-year-old son Peter wanted for Christmas was a Hess truck. As soon as I saw the new truck online, I told it to my husband Joe, and we agreed to order it. Unluckily, we did not buy it. Joe thought I had bought it, and I thought he did. Well, OK, no problem. It was only December 9. I would just go online and get it.
My heart dropped when I went on the Hess truck website and saw that they were sold out. For a while, I didn't know what to do. Finally, I told myself that nothing is difficult to the man who will try. I found out that a few malls were carrying them.
But it looked like all the malls in New York were out. I went to Amazon (an online shop). When I saw they had a Hess truck, I got excited. Then I noticed that it was $144, much higher than the list price (定价) which was about $30.
I decided to come clean and let Peter know what was going on. Hearing my words, he started to cry. I held him. I said we made a mistake and I was really sorry. But I also told him something else that he'd have to learn sooner or later.
After a long hug, he stopped crying. We then got on the Internet and started looking at other types of toy trucks.
The next day at school, Peter's teacher asked them to write about the one thing they wanted for the holidays. Peter wrote that he wouldn't get the Hess truck even though it was the only thing he wanted. But he added that it was OK because Mom told him that sometimes we just don't get what we want.

It was always thought that Treasure Island was the product of Robert Louis Stevenson's imagination. However, recent research has found the true story of this exciting work.
Robert, a Scotsman, had lived abroad for many years. In 1881 he went back to Scotland for a holiday. With him were his American wife Fanny and his son Lloyd.
Each morning Robert would take them out for a long walk over the hills. They enjoyed this for several days before the weather suddenly took a turn for the worse. Kept indoors by the heavy rain, Lloyd felt the days boring. To keep the boy happy Robert asked the boy to do some drawing.
One morning, the boy came to Robert with a beautiful map of an island. Robert noticed that the boy had drawn a large cross (十字形记号) in the middle of the island.“What's that?”he asked.“That's the buried (埋藏的) treasure,”said the boy. Robert suddenly saw something of an adventure ( 冒 险) story in the boy's picture. While the rain was pouring, Robert sat down by the fire to write a story. He would make the hero a twelve-year-old boy, just like Lloyd. But who would be the pirate (海盗)?
Robert had a good friend named Henley, who walked around with the help of a wooden leg. Robert had always wanted to include such a man in a story. So, Long John Silver, the pirate with a wooden leg, was born.
So, thanks to a rainy September in Scotland, a friend with a wooden leg, and the imagination of a twelve-year-old boy, we have one of the greatest adventure stories in the English language.
( )62. On the rainy days Lloyd _______.
A. read a map B. made up stories
C. did some drawing D. buried some treasure
( )63. Robert got the idea of Treasure Island from _______.
A. the heavy rain B. his son's picture

( )64. What can we learn about Treasure Island?
A. It was started in September.
B. It was written for a friend of the writer.
C. It was a product of the writer's imagination.
D. It was a story about a pirate and his 12-year-old son.
( )65. Which is the best title for the passage?
A. A boy and his drawing
B. An unforgettable holiday

The BBC estimates (估计) that nearly half of the world’s 1.9 billion ( 十 亿) children aged 14 and younger study Shakespeare at school, or see his plays on television or at the movies, or read about him and his plays in books and even in comic books (连环画杂志). 第三节
I’m David. I am 15 years old and I am a middle school student. I think I have grown up but my parents are too strict with me. They have made so many rules for me. Firstly, I have to do my homework first when I arrive at home. I’m not allowed to watch TV or listen to music before finishing my homework. Secondly, I’m not allowed to play computer games at home or at school, and even in my free time. Thirdly, I must do some housework such as making the bed and cleaning my bedroom after school. Though I hate the strict rules, my life is becoming more and more wonderful because of them. For example, I have improved my grades and living skills. But I always think the second rule is unfair to me. I hope I can be allowed to play computer games on weekends. It will make me more relaxed.
