My parents taught me not to waste food. My mom always found ways to make leftovers (剩余食物) taste good. I went to Ilan to learn about some of their special foods. As I was there, I learned about the food and the history of the area. I learned that they don’t waste food, either, and they use leftovers!
Many years ago, there was not enough food for everyone. People learned to cook and eat almost everything. They had to think of ways to make special dishes. One of these dishes is kao zha. Another famous dish is called zao bing. It’s made with fruit, meat and other things. I really liked it! But I didn’t want to eat too much. It has a lot of fat in it.
I smelled something burning, and I saw smoke, so I found another special food of the Ilan area-duck meat. The duck meat is put in a big oven (炉子) to cook it. Smoke keeps the meat fresh. I don’t usually eat meat, but this duck meat was delicious! It tasted sweet.

Sometimes, you just can’t help it. Maybe you’re watching a sad movie, or thinking about the friend who moved away. Next thing you know, you feel pressure in your throat, your eyes are watering, and you have tears running down your cheeks.
Why do people cry when they are emotional? What are tears? Scientists are working hard to find the answers to these questions.
Ad Vingerhoets is a professor of psychology at Tilburg University, in the Netherlands. He is one of the few scientists in the world who have studied crying.
According to Vingerhoets, there are three types of tears. Basal (基础) tears are the first type. They act as a protective barrier between the eye and the rest of the world. Next are reflex (反射作用的) tears. They wash your eyes clean when something gets in them. Finally, there are emotional tears. “These are released in response to emotional states, ” explains Vingerhoets, “ Especially when we feel helplessness. ”
Scientists believe that crying has something to do with how humans developed and learned to depend on each other. “ Humans are very complex social creatures, ” says Lauren Bylsma, a professor at the University of Pittsburgh, in Pennsylvania. “ It seems that tears serve to draw help and support from others.”
She says another reason we weep is that humans have the longest developmental period of almost any animal. It takes a long time to grow up.
Vingcrhoets agrees. “I think that the reason why humans cry emotional tears has to do with our prolonged (延长的) childhood, ” he says. “That’s the time when we are still dependent on adults for love and protection and care. The major advantage of emotional tears is that you can target them at a specific person. ”
Vingerhocts says this ability to target someone could have come in handy in prehistoric times, when humans were living among dangerous animals. Loud crying could attract predators (捕食者). Tears were a safer way to get attention. “ In this case, it is better to use a silent signal to ask for help, ” he says. Vingerhoets and Bylsma do frequent studics to better understand why humans cry. According to Byhma, there is still much more to discover. “ It’s surprising,” she says,“ how much we still don’t know. ”

C. Humans’ developed mind. D. Humans’ close relationship.
44. In prehistoric times, humans were more likely to .
A. cry alone B. cry loudly C. cry silently D. cry together

Ever since Earth formed about 4.5 billion years ago, its climate (气候) has gone through a number of great changes.
All you have to do is look at pictures of the Jurassic Period to know that at one time, much of our planet was covered in rain forests. Move ahead a couple of million years and you get to an ice age event, when global temperature experienced a huge drop. While many species (物种) were not able to deal with climate change, others successfully adapted (适应), and some are even still with us today.
Now, as human activities push the planet closer to another extreme climate event, scientists are interested in finding out how the world's species will react (反应).
The idea was mentioned in a study published on April 6, 2021, which showed that between 1970 and 2010, open water species had become less by about half across the globe because over the 40-year time period, sea temperatures in those areas had risen by about 0.2℃.
The lower numbers aren’t a sign of all the sea creatures dying off though. In fact, the scientists found some of them outside of their traditional habitats, meaning that if some species can migrate (迁徙) to cooler water sand adapt to a new environment, they will.
However, those movements aren’t always a good thing; species that can't move, such as corals (珊瑚虫), which live on the sea bed, rely on the fish and other sea creature sand stay healthy. And when a non-native species moves into a new area, it may hurt the ecosystem (生态系统) there.
Depending on the species, it can take thousands of years to properly adapt, so the changes that have happened in just the last 40 years are very troubling for scientists. As Sebastian Ferse, a scientist at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research, Germany, said, “To see such changes happening so fast is something quite shocking.” He added, “One of the big questions is ‘Will coral reefs as ecosystem sand corals as species be able to move north or south fast enough to adapt to a changing climate?’”
51. What do scientists want to find out?
A How the global climate will change.
B. Why the climate changed greatly.
C. How species influenced climate change.
D. What species will do facing climate change.
52. Why did the number of open water species across the globe become small?
A. Those species moved to different sea areas.
B. The temperature of sea water rose in those areas.
C. Sea temperatures in those areas went up and down fast.
D. Human activities such as overfishing drove those species to escape.
53. Why is migration sometimes a bad thing?
A. There are few cool waters to migrate to.
B. It could destroy ecosystems that are already there.
C. Some species cannot adapt after migrating.
D. There isn’t enough food for species that migrate.
54. What is shocking according to scientists?
A. The speed at which changes in the climate are happening.
B. Species adapting to climate change at different speeds.
C. Corals being unable to move to better environments.
D Corals being unable to adapt to the rising temperature.
55. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The world’s climate is changing
B. Species can adapt to a new environment
C. Climate change influences the richness of sea life
D. Climate is influenced by human activities seriously

Basal (基础的) tears are the first type.
41. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A. Weeping tears. B. Missing a friend.
C. Watching movies. D. Escaping pressure.
42. What is the function of basal tears?
A. To clean the eye. B. To draw support. C. To show sadness. D. To protect the eye.

C. Humans’ developed mind. D. Humans’ close relationship.

主旨大意题。根据第一段“Buying second-hand products is becoming more popular these days, including books. One million people are selling over 2 million second-hand things from clothing and books to electronic products on Xianyu every day, Xinhua reported(如今,二手商品越来越受欢迎,包括书籍。新华社报道,每天有100万人在闲鱼上售卖超过200万件二手物品,从服装、书籍到电子产品应有尽有)”、第二段“People have made more money in recent years and bought more things than they really` need, according to a speech given by Wei Ying, founder of the second-hand book-trading website Deja Vu. As more people turn to a minimal lifestyle(极简生活方式), they are selling their used products cheap. Shoppers are attracted to the low prices, as well as the fact that buying second-hand is good for the environment (根据二手书交易网站Deja Vu的创始人魏英在一次演讲中所说,近年来人们赚了更多的钱,买了更多他们并不真正需要的东西。随着越来越多的人转向极简生活方式,他们以低价出售自己的二手产品。购物者被低廉的价格所吸引,同时他们也认为购买二手商品对环境有益)”、倒数第二段“Besides lower prices, people can also find out-of-print books. Yan Minjun, 21, is a picky reader. She has bought many classic versions (经典版本) of books on Deja Vu, such as a copy of“Pride and Prejudice” that was published by People's Literature Publishing House in 1993(除了价格较低外,人们还可以找到绝版的书籍。21岁的严敏军是一位挑剔的读者。她在Deja Vu上购买了许多经典版本的书,比如一本由人民文学出版社于1993年出版的《傲慢与偏见》)”以及最后一段“Purchasing old books can even connect readers. Zhao Kaiqi, a 22-year-old college student in Harbin, Heilongjiang, once found a note in a second-hand book she bought.“Its former owner shared her thoughts and hoped I would enjoy it. It was so heartwarming, "Zhao said. “I want to do the same thing in the future, too.”(购买旧书甚至可以连接读者。
D
A. How the global climate will change.
D. Corals being unable to adapt to the rising temperature.
55. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The world’s climate is changing
B. Species can adapt to a new environment
C. Climate change influences the richness of sea life
D. Climate is influenced by human activities seriously
【答案】51. D 52. B 53. B 54. A 55. C

根据第三段“Now, as human activities push the planet closer to another extreme climate event, scientists are interested in finding out how the world’s species will react (反应).(现在,随着人类活动将地球推向另一个极端气候事件,科学家们对找出世界上的物种将如何反应很感兴趣)”可知,科学家想要查明面对气候变化,物种会做些什么,故选D。
【52题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“open water species had become less by about half across the globe because over the 40-year time period, sea temperatures in those areas had risen by about 0.2℃(全球开放水域物种减少了约一半,因为在40年的时间里,这些地区的海洋温度上升了约0.2℃)”可知,全球开放水域物种的数量变得越来越少是因为这些地区的海水温度上升了,故选B。
【53题详解】
细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“And when a non-native species moves into a new area, it may hurt the ecosystem (生态系统) there.(当一个非本地物种进入一个新的地区时,它可能会伤害那里的生态系统)”可知,有时迁徙是一件坏事是因为它可能会破坏已经存在的生态系统,故选B。
【54题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“As Sebastian Ferse, a scientist at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research, Germany, said, ‘To see such changes happening so fast is something quite shocking.’(正如德国Leibniz热带海洋研究中心的科学家Sebastian Ferse说:‘看到这样的变化发生得如此之快,令人震惊。’)”可知,按照科学家的说法,气候变化发生的速度之快令人震惊,故选A。
【55题详解】
主旨大意题。根据全文内容,结合第二段中“While many species (物种) were not able to deal with climate change, others successfully adapted (适应), and some are even still with us today.(虽然许多物种无法应对气候变化,但其他物种成功地适应了气候变化,有些物种甚至至今仍与我们同在)”和第四段“The idea was mentioned in a study published on April 6, 2021, which showed that between 1970 and 2010, open water species had become less by about half across the globe because over the 40-year time period, sea temperatures in those areas had risen by about 0.2℃.(这一想法在2021年4月6日发表的一项研究中被提及,该研究表明,在1970年至2010年期间,全球开放水域物种减少了约一半,因为在40年的时间里,这些地区的海洋温度上升了约0.2℃)”可知,文章主要讲述气候变化对物种的影响,导致海洋生物的数量减少,C项“气候变化影响着海洋生物的丰富性”为最佳标题,故选C。

【答案】One possible version:
Hello, everyone,
I’m honored to stand here to tell you something about my school life.
The campus environment here is so beautiful that I enjoy it every day. With green trees and colorful flowers everywhere, it makes me feel relaxed. The teaching facilities are advanced. We have well-equipped classrooms and a big library which offers us a great place to study.
The kind and knowledgeable teachers always answer our questions patiently. My classmates are friendly and helpful. We often study and play together.
However, I have two suggestions for our school. First, if possible, it would be better if we could have more outdoor activities. Second, I hope the school can organize some English-speaking competitions to improve our English.
Thank you!
