Chen Yuanchun is a teacher at a rural (乡村的) primary school in Cangyuan, Yunnan Province. The 44-year-old woman teaches Chinese, but she is very interested in computer technology. She has introduced coding (编程) to her students as an important information technology skill.
Chen’s connection to coding began in November 2018. She became one of the first teachers in Cangyuan to take training courses on coding. The training was challenging for a beginner like Chen. She needed to learn how to tell a machine to perform actions and finish tasks (任务) through different orders. She worked very hard because she believed this skill would be useful for her students.
After the training, Chen started a new group in her school to teach the students coding, but some parents opposed her plan. They didn’t understand what coding was and thought Chen was teaching their children to play video games on the computer.
So, Chen could only teach students of her own class at first. For teens, coding does not include writing difficult coding languages. Instead, Chen taught them how to create interesting cartoons and games.
After only one term, every student was able to create something through coding. Learning coding also helped them become more creative and improved their problem-solving skills.
Soon, coding classes became popular in schools all over Cangyuan. Some students even won prizes in a national competition last year.
“I will work harder and hope these children in mountain areas will have a better future by learning information technology,” Chen said.

29. Which of the following is TRUE?
A. The students were not interested in coding at first.
B. Chen’s students won the first place at a competition in 2021.
C. Most parents think coding is too difficult to learn.
D. Chen plans to put more time and energy into teaching coding.

First, could you speak English more slowly so that we can follow you? Second, too much written work makes us so busy that we have no time to think about it. If you give us more chances to have activities and make us speak more often in class, it would be better. Finally, too much grammar makes us really bored. Would you like to try to explain it in an active way? In all, if you can make some small changes, we can learn English better. I hope that we can have a good year together.
Yours, Li Ming

Chen Yuanchun is a teacher at a rural (乡村的 ) primary school in Cangyuan, Yunnan
Province. The 44-year-old woman teaches Chinese, but she is very interested in computer
technology. She has introduced coding (编 程 ) to her students as an important information
technology skill.
Chen’s connection to coding began in November 2018. She became one of the first teachers
in Cangyuan to take training courses on coding. The training was challenging for a beginner like
Chen. She needed to learn how to tell a machine to perform actions and finish tasks (任务 )
through different orders. She worked very hard because she believed this skill would be useful for
her students.
After the training, Chen started a new group in her school to teach the students coding, but
some parents opposed her plan. They didn’t understand what coding was and thought Chen was
teaching their children to play video games on the computer.
So, Chen could only teach students of her own class at first. For teens, coding does not
include writing difficult coding languages. Instead, Chen taught them how to create interesting
cartoons and games.
After only one term, every student was able to create something through coding. Learning
coding also helped them become more creative and improved their problem-solving skills.
Soon, coding classes became popular in schools all over Cangyuan. Some students even won
prizes in a national competition last year.
“I will work harder and hope these children in mountain areas will have a better future by
learning information technology,” Chen said.
